Great place to hang out with friends, families. I stayed multiple times at Thotadkal Homestay and everytime it’s been memorable for me. Authentic Karnataka food, party and bonfire. Highly recommend.

The place is insanely mesmerizing. It is a total disconnect with outside world and connection with pure nature and mist all around! The homestay also is very clean and spacious enough. The caretakers also cooked amazing delicious food and took great care of us! I personally loved the place and would love to visit this every time i come down to Sakleshpur. Thank you for the caretakers and pavan for an beautiful experience.

Absolutely fantastic. It's called Homestay for a reason. The hospitality Pavan and his team offer is unmatchable. From spacious and clean dorms to good food and insanely good view points around the homestay just makes it very cozy for a bunch of people or well suited for families as well. The hubli couple who cook food for all guests do a splendid job and can never disappoint anyone. Pavan also has some pets and they're well trained too.

One can go for a hike within the 150 acre premises just be wary of the elephants.
We were a group of 5 people and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay.

The surroundings were as expected, in the midst of a coffee estate. While the place is clean and our stay was peaceful, we had expected better hospitality. Lunch was supposed to be at the homestay but we were sent to a local eatery outside for which we had to drive several extra kilometers. The money we paid for the food also felt unreasonable. However, we were okay as sometimes things are beyond control and in this case the cook had to attend to an emergency situation. But, the hospitality of the owner was way below our expectation. We repeatedly asked where we could go for walks, which we were very keen on doing, but he did not provide any adequate guidance. He kept saying that he would take us around but never did. Even the bonfire was provided only when we asked for it. It felt like he wasn't bothered and was busy with his coffee labourers. There are many places to stay at Sakleshpur, do choose wisely.

In short, a lovely place in the middle of a coffee estate in the hills. Wholesome, homely food. Some nice walks around the estate. Absolutely gorgeous views. Pet-friendly.

About 15km down the road from Sakleshpur to Somwarpet, a concrete road goes off to the right. The mile-long road that winds through the coffee estate leads up to a bungalow on a hilltop. Thotadkal homestay. That’s where we went a fortnight ago. The owner, Mr. Pavan Rao, is a friendly and forthcoming gentleman. He told me all about the place when we spoke, and I was excited to book rooms. We stayed there for three days and in the span of a mere weekend, we experienced all the seasons of Malnad. Here’s what I felt about our stay there.

First of all, they’ve taken care to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. That is reassuring.

Estate: A sprawling 150-acre property with coffee, pepper and cardamom. Staying in the midst of the estate is a novelty, especially for folks from the cities. We went there in late November, which is coffee harvest time. The estate has rolling hills with the plantations, with a couple of hill-top view points and a few water bodies too. The view points offer nice views of the area around and on a clear day, KumaraParvata, DevaraMane and Sakleshpur town are clearly seen. There are jeep tracks around the estate. They took us around the estate in their Thar. It would be nice to walk around too along these tracks. It was too wet and messy for us to trek down to the water bodies, which would offer some good birding.

House: A spacious two-level house with a sheltered, outdoor dining area in the front. The lower storey has the kitchen, a lobby and rooms with attached bathrooms. The upper storey has a dormitory with a common bathroom. There’s a carrom board and a dart game for passing time. They have 3-4 dogs on the property. They let the dogs out into the estate at night after the guests have turned in. There’s a balcony that overlooks the East. On a clear day, one can get a glorious view of the sunrise over the estate. As for network, Airtel signals were super-strong in and around the property. Other networks were nonexistent. There was no WiFi, but we managed fine. WiFi availability would ramp up the popularity, wouldn’t it?

Grounds: They’ve done some landscaping around, but there’s plenty of space and scope to develop. It would be really nice if they build a pool (which, I’m sure, is on Pavan’s mind as well). There’s space for a bonfire too. We were, however, the only occupants of the property (probably because of the rain alert across Karnataka at that time). It would be nice too if they could make a little play park for kids.

Personnel: Sridhar, the cook and caretaker of the the bungalow. Hemanth, the caretaker of the estate stays with his family in another house at the entrance to the estate. Pavan, the owner of the estate, too stays in the bungalow on some days. All of them are friendly and personable. In fact, when we were bidding adieu, we got some of their coffee powder too as a parting gift. Superb gesture, Pavan!

Food: Breakfast, lunch and dinner on the house. Typical South Indian/Malnad style simple fare. Homely, wholesome, sumptuous and tasty. Evening snacks were made to order (not part of the daily package, though). Sridhar took care to make the food exactly to our request. In our opinion, Five stars for the food.

Our room was spacious and comfortable with good views of the estate and the sunrise out of the window. Bathrooms were clean with hot water all day.
However, furnishing was quite bare – we could do with cupboards, shelves, side tables and such stuff. Another thing – they could make it more Senior Citizen-friendly (slightly slippery bathrooms, for instance).

Would we want to visit again? Certainly!

Awesome place at the top of the hills and in the middle of green lush. Food is good but could have given some varieties. Owner Pavan is very friendly and the beautiful husky dog Oreo is very friendly.

Rooms were comfortable. View was excellent. Food was not at all great. We went as a large group of about 30. So may be that could be the reason for not so very great food. Staff was good. Would have given 5 stars if food was more tasty and variety added to it.

Really unfair pavan rao did to me last minute he cancelled my booking saying employees are not well and he is suggesting me to look for other homestay as if we doesn't know. Big liar. How I come to know he is a liar I texted from other number asking he told availability is there for me he told this week is closed because of staffs not well. Really unfair. Thank god I didn't go to his place. One day before I only called for confirmation. Be careful before Booking with thotadkal homestay. Shameful what he did to me

What to say about this place.
It's literally an heaven feeling. Its a stand out place for a vacation. Its a very big stress reliever. Hospitality at its best. Food is also quite amazing. Spacious, tidy. Even the workers are very friendly. Must visit place if u r around Chikmagalur or Hassan or Mangalore or Bangalore.
For me the best part was the sceneric view around the homestay. You feel very close to nature. I strongly recommend one and all to visit.
