It's decorated with Bells, offered by devotees who have made special wishes. BEWARE of few monkeys inside the temple.
The temple serves food to all the DEVOTEES. Not many from outside the district are aware of this temple. A shining arch is all that surrounds the beautiful idol in black stone and, of course, huge brass lamps.

A must visit holy place for all hindu. Very neat arrangements. I should appreciate the behaviour and nature of all the purohits and other staffs Anna santharpana was so arranged and delicious too.
As there was series of holidays I visited this unique Open field Ganapathi temple, though there was considerable rush where other wise usually people could have easy darshan from close proximity to Lord, we had darshan from little far but after having prasadam, here too we were lucky due grace of God Lord Ganapa with all that rush we could have anna prasadam instantly all in all we were blessed by Lord Ganapa
Well known for fulfilling wishes of the devotees, the idol of lord Ganesha doesn't have a roof over but stands in open area. It is believed to accept only bells (of various shapes and sizes available at the premises) once the wish is fulfilled. The idol is known to be installed by shepherds many years ago. No crowd usually, can get archane and other sevas.
It's a divine place. Very unique since the deity sits in the open. Whoever has a wish can tie a bell here. Known to be a very powerfull place. One must visit if you are going to dharmasthala.
It was good Place and Good Temple and small temple. We can see 16 km far away from Dharmastala. Actually there was no Building for this temple this is Open space temple. The Ganesha Idol was built in open area and Sarounded by park and trees. All pilgrims tag one Bell in this place if they had any Arike. Totally it was good and it is a small place
Clean, well maintained temple. Just a few minutes from the dharmasthala kukke route. The whole visit will take around 15-30 minutes. A different type of temple. Along with being spiritual, also a good photo destination with the bell decorations.
It is very nice temple. Being a big devotee of Lord ganesha. I was very happy. Visited fr the very first time. From now will sure visit wen eve I go tat side. Bells r offered wen ur prayers are fulfilled in this temple. Ganu
This temple which I visited once but this place is awesome and the Prasad here is so tasty and here the ganapathi is very powerful and he fulfills our wishes powerful god
One of the best places of worship especially for those who love Lord Ganesh. The temple in the open and the bells all around the temples make the view very Serene. Missed the Prasad (flate rice mixed with jaggery and ghee concnetrate) this time due to covid.

To Great have peace mind and Environment in This Place Called Sowthadka Srimaha Ganapathi Temple. And Also I Have Never Seen Something Like This Type Places.
Wow. I don't think anyone think of rating it less than 4 or 5 stars. Such a good place. Few years back many people were not aware of this place much except people from Udupi and DK. Now almost everyone who visits Dharmasthala or Subramanya ends up visiting this as well. Best plan would be to visit Dharmasthala in the early morning then to southadka further to kukke Subramanya. People believe this place a lot. Open and beautiful place. I usually prefer to visit during intial days of monsoon season or when the rain starts receding.
Very nice temple.don't forget to eat the special prasadam.it's around 45mins from Dharmastala towards Bangalore route. You can reach there by share autos or by your own vehicle.the last 3-4 kms odd route is bad.i. E.after taking deviation from the main road. Speciality about this temple is that it won't be closed at all and it doesn't have any shelter too.you will experience a real positive vibe for sure.they do serve anna prasadham for free in the afternoon. Very nice place.
The idol of Ganesha worshipped in this temple, was found by cowherd boys. These innocent boys carried this idol with the bhajan, pooja all along the way to the present place of worship and placed the idol under the tree. Every day they offered Ganesha with tender cucumber as naivedya, performed prayers, chanted bhajans. Hence from then, this shrine derived the name SOWTHADKA. (In Kannada Southe (Cucumber) + Adka (A vast plain). As per the Hindu Vastu tradition, Temples are built with Gopuras facing towards the east, idols of diety are installed. A temple in the midst of forest (kind of). An open temple with Ganesh has no roof. Donating bells seems to be a practice. May be good to visit during rainy season when more greenary is there.
Very awsome place and amazing bells sounds, but I don't recommend people to go there because it's only temple with calm and peace, if more people go there then there is no point of peace.
This place is known for blessings of lord Ganesha and your wishes will be fullfilled soon after your wish is full filled make sure you tie a bell near the temple place
One of the best temples with a really great environment! The Ganesha is in open land, so no long queue to darshana! And there is lunch from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm everyday so very good for tourists too!

A temple that has no Garbha Gudi and set in open air, it was wish of Lord Mahaganapati that devotees should be able to pray to him at any time and accessible every moment. Offering of Bells is the unique feature of this temple
A must visit open temple of Lord Ganapathi. Located in a cool place, falls on way to Dharmasthala. Pleasant environment, well knowledged staff. But the surrounding areas are changing dynamics with day today changes. It seems like it will loose its environmental charm shortly.
Nice place to visit. Lord is completely open without any enclosure. You'll get a cloth bag for prasadam at Rs 70. Crowd is moderate and parking not a problem at all
Temple is unique and beautiful, must visit. However, was saddened by the deforestation happening around the temple. Had visited in January 2015 and in 4 years there has been quite a bit of forest cutting
Very divine and powerful place. Very powerful god, all we need to do here is confess whatever you want to say and keep faith in him, he will keep you in right direction. Apart frok this, This place is very scenic place surrounded by mountains and lot of greenery. Climate is very cool. There is a river passing nearby, go take a dip.
