Once again I highlight the history of this temple. Great Saint Sankaracharya wanted goddess Saraswati to come to kerala and bless them. At that time Goddess saraswati was in Kudajadhri and she agreed on one condition that Sankaracharya will walk first and goddess saraswati will follow. Sankaracharya agreed and started to walk hearing the sound of anklets goddess Saraswati worn. When the present place where temple situated reached, Sankaracharya was not hearing the anklets sound. Out of sheer anxiety Sankaracharya just stopped and looked back and found goddess saraswati behind him. Here Saraswati said him, " you breached your promise", so I will remain here. However, the goddess saraswati was very pleased to Sankaracharya determination and devotion and promised to him, morning between 7.00 to 8.00 am I will be present at chottanikara temple in the form of Vagdevi and bless my devotees.
The actual old name of chottaniksra is jyothiyanikkare (the holy virtual light on this shore), and later it became chottanikara.
My personal experience is that whenever I feel to visit, Mookambika devi will bring me here and give great darshan.
If u r travelling by train, the nearest station is Mookambika Road (BYNR). IN THAT STATION, TOILETS ARE NOT AVAILABLE (very dirty). Never use it. There is no need to take a taxi from there. If u walk a little bit, u will get Bus.
At Mookimbika Temple Nearby, there is a place where u can get room for 3 hrs for rs300 (just if u r travelling alone or friends use it), the room is clean and all. Indian toilet,
The most revered divine location of Goddess Mookambika, about 125 km out of Mangalore, Karnataka. In addition to local Karnataka population, people from Kerala and Tamil Nadu could be seen worshipping the Goddess. Temple darshan timings are from 6 am to 8 pm, with small breaks only for periodic nithya Pooja. Darshan can be within 30 minutes for special with ticket and about an hour free. This will be a little longer on Friday due to special spiritual day for the Goddess.
Visiting at morning before 10am you will get less crowd, for bags and other belongings you can get luggage facility near the temple, public transport facility is also available but not frequent, so personal transportation is overall better.
The Kollur Mookambika Temple is nestled in the Western Ghats, surrounded by lush greenery and a tranquil atmosphere. The temple's location in the midst of nature adds to the spiritual experience, making it a serene and peaceful place for devotees.
U need to pay at the counter and get token for ghee lamp, prasadham, kunkumam, etc, It is very famous temple always with medium crowd. Must visit once with your family and get blessed from shri mookambika maatha Positive vibes ️

Very poorly organised temple. Even the 250 rs ticket is very crowded and there is a lot of push and pull. There is free Annadhana which is good. Deity is considered very powerful.
It's a holy place when we go there we will get peace in our mind and feels protected. I love this place so so much and I would like to go there again and again
So much time for wasted in queue in hot sun. I wish the temple staff was decent enough to recognise that and let people in fast instead of waiting hours in queue in hot sun where many old people fainted or had some heath issue or other. Instead they were focused on selling fast entry tickets for 500.
It is one of the most important places of pilgrimages for Hindus. This temple is unique because it is combination of both Shiva and Shakthi. Mookambika is the manifestation of Shakti, Saraswathi and Mahalakshmi. At Sri Mookambika temple the Lingam is the main deity and is known as Jyothirlingam. As Kollur is associated with Shankaracharya, the temple holds immense relevance for the devotees of Kerala. The devotees from Kerala, who lay great importance to their children's education, make it a point to initiate them into the world of letters at this abode of the goddess on the Vijayadashami day or any other day.
Kollur Mookambika Temple is located at Kollur in Byndoor, Taluk of Udupi District in the region of Tulunadu and in the state of Karnataka, India. Surrounding forest, The souparnika river and the temple itself gives you a serene feel. It is a very divine place which cannot be described using words. Go there and seek the blessings of Devi Mookambika
1. Great TEMPLE. Queues are long. Plan accordingly. Avoid Darshan on Sundays, holidays and on Auspicious days. 2. Nice drive, good roads. Parking is difficult to access. Few of the halls enroute allow parking for a fee, about Rs 50/-. Its worth it. 3. Hotel Mahalaksmi is the place to dine and is very close to the Temple
Beautiful place situated in karnataka. The goddess is beautiful and the Darshan also is very well organized. Prompt temple staff. Best temple Prasadam, neat kitchens also. The ghee lamp devs is a must it is a beautiful deva for the goddess.
Definitely- Devi with divineness. Had been here for vidyarambham for my kid. Vidyarambham 200rs. Nothing to carry. Time taken to buy ticket n complete was less than 15 min considering off season. Took free queue to darshan which took less than half hour.
Such a divine place. We can get blissful feeling around the temple premises.have good environment, clean and hygienic conditions maintained throughout the temple.temple stands out in Kerala style structure and have lot of paintings of goddesses around the Santorum
One of the must visit temples in south canara region of Karnataka. But the management is worst there, they are least bothered about the devotees suffer standing in the queue for hours (under sharp sun rays, no shed), they keep closing gates for darshan inside the temple; devotees who visit would think twice to visit again just because of the poor management and system there. Security guards should go through certain trainings to handle the crowd appropriately, my suggestion to the management is “you are entitled to look after all these concerns proactively and try make it an easy darshan with proper procedures and queue systems. At least think of installing some sheds so that devotees don’t have to wait for hours under such sharp sun rays. By closing darshan gates very often (as per your convenience) during the day is really not good as many come from various locations and distances. Try help them if possible but please don’t trouble them with your ignorance and negligence. If it’s intentional to show and attract people with long queues, it’s not at all a good idea.
Not sure what to rate here or give feedback. I just love this place from a spiritual perspective. The only concern is, parking. The temple authority given tender to some people but they are only focused towards collecting the money but not ensuring the parking is proper.
The holy idol in Mookambika temple is made up of Panchaloha i.e. A combination of five metals namely Gold, Silver, Copper, Iron and Lead and is believed to be placed by Shri Adi Shankaracharya during his visit to the holy state. Devi Mookambika is believed to have appeared before Adi Shankaracharya and agreed to travel with him towards his state, present Kerala. The larger part of linga represents the Tridevi Lakshmi (goddess of wealth), Saraswathi (goddess of knowledge) and Parvathi (goddess of power). This linga is placed in front of Goddess Mookambika's idol. Since then, this place has become the abode of Devi Mookamiba and is believed to fulfil the wishes of in numerous devotees who visit her year after year. Kindly take Rs. 100 ticket for quick darshan which takes only 15mins. Free darshan almost took 1 hr with many loops and zig zags. I was really suprised they are charging the amount for Kum Kum prasadha. Actually it has to given to all the devotees which should be free of cost.
The place the temple situated and the Vive that temple gave me is irreplaceable what a life time experience this temple is one thing is please check the timings of Bus with the station thoroughly because this is reserve forest no problem for car and bike travellers Temple is open morning 6-8pm evening shirt have to be removed inside the temple premises must visit in our lifetime
Nice place. Take care of hotel, Lodge. When I took the room, I was told it was for two days. (Rs. 600 for one day) He said that he needs Rs. 1500 the next day. He caused trouble by saying that he did not tell for two days. Nagashri deluxe lodge. Back side of temple
Worth travelling to see the godess. Its crowded always, go early morning (temple opens at 5: 00am) and if late better you go and buy VIP tickets for Rs. 100, which will save 1-2 hours and you will skip a lot of lanes of que.
One of adishankarar chakras & praised place, powerfull goddes & shathi It was belived that moogambikai was 3 form here morning as shakthi afternoon as saraswati & night as lakshmi she give orientation visit from here & bagawathi amma kerala & one more place
Seeing Moogambikai + Sharadhambikai + kateel durgai on same day is so auspicious it means 3 goddess visit on same day adding up annapoorni hornad is so much pleasent & blissfull
After driving thru a winding hilly road, we arrived at the temple and despite being a working day (Monday) it was quite crowded and chaotic. Purohits were seated all along the raised platform running along the sides, and were performing 'sevas' such as archana for a archa vigraha, for each family, by turn. We need to buy tickets for such seva first before we join the queue in front of the purohit. Seva could not be offered to the main deity. We instead decided to pay and join the 'fast track' queue and got to the garba griha sooner, had a quick darshan before we were pushed on and out. There were lots of devotees from Kerala and they seemed to know their way around and the routine. We were somewhat disappointed, especially because I had read glowing reviews.
Do visit. I still dnt know the why part but trust me something within you would crackle if you are receptive enough. Do visit Vanadhurga too on the way and sowparnika.
A very small locality in the midst of a dense forest along the Souparnika river is where this powerful temple is situated. The Myth about this temple is really interesting. Feel the place. The energy in this place is inescapable. An old temple. Devi Kshetram. Pray. Experience bliss. And return again. This is a temple where I have visited often and come back grateful every single time.
The blessings of the God is all over the surrounding. I have driven the car, at the age of 63, for 15 hours, from Chennai, to the Moogambiga temple and on reaching, the blessings of the God has taken over our tiredness mentally and physically. OM SHAKTI.
I'm visiting this temple for the past one decade. Without any religious barricade anybody who wishes to see the Devi can come here. Mookambika Devi is very powerful. She has fulfilled all my wishes and I can't ask for more. Mookambika Devi is the concoction of Goddess Saraswati, Parvathi and Lakshmi For elderly people who can't stand in line for a long time 100 rs early darshan without waiting in line is also available. This facility is available for others too.
It's a nice place with a great spiritual feeling. It is situated on the southern bank of the Souparnika River. A friendly temple staff explained us about the history of the temple.
Peaceful place. Excellence in the overall management is really appreciative. Anna dhana is available twice in a day. Temple guest house is more affordable than other hotels. Beena residency is the one we stayed, for 950 rupee it's a great deal.
Devotional place, cool climate neat and clean, morning hours will be rush, nice place, feels blesses when we visit this place. Sri mookambika temple is one of the oldest temple in kolur covered with kodachadri hill, The temple has a very calm and soothing environment, holy atmosphere clean and peacefull, This temple is surrounded by beautiful nature and is very calm and peaceful. I extremely felt delighted and happy when I visited this temple. Must visit her divine almighty Godess. Nice drive from the main highway through the forest
Beautiful temple which is almost 1000 years old. We visited the temple on a Sunday morning at 11am, the temple was quite crowded, we took a paid direct ticket of 100₹ which still took us around 75 mins for the darshan. Also, there was a palki procession of devi moorti the day we visited.
Men have a dress code they are not allowed to wear shirts/ tee shirts inside the temple. The ideal dress code for men is lungi/dhoti/mundu and a shawl like thing on the top and for women is indian wear.
Oldest and traditional temple. Dress code is very strict here. Men are supposed to remove their upper garments like shirts and vests. Coat, Turban, Hat, Lungi and suits are not allowed inside the temple. Women have to preferably wear traditional attire.
Wonderful. Devotees will get enough time to darshan at temple. Now a days due to present situation, less visitors are visiting. But no fear to visit. All places are well maintained and follow guidelines of Covid-19. Mr Ajit is working last 25 yrs. He has told that due to very less devotees, markets are suffering financially. You will not get varieties of dishes in any hotels. 455 Km by car from Blore and road is better to drive.
Divinity filled with blessings of Devi mookabika. Parking facility available besides homestay and hotels. Brief worship and sankalpa done with Divinity. Covid vaccination report and RTPCR negative reports are mandatory for other state. Aadhar card is mandatory for all to enter Temple in recent days.
This is really one of the most famous ancient and powerful temple where people from many different places come to visit this temple and also to be blessed. This temple is surrounded by beautiful nature and is very calm and peaceful. I extremely felt delighted and happy when I visited this temple. It is really a great temple and powerful Goddess where you will get strength and glorious Blessings from the God.
Tourist place in Karnataka. This temples idol was installed by Jagadguru Aadiskankaracharya. Beautiful place between nature. Kodachadri hill is excellent to enjoy nature.
Nice temple, Archahars are very descent, social distance are maintained by the devotees on the advices of temple staff, wonderful alankaran and Dharshan of Thai Mookambika, worth of visiting and darshan of Deviji.
A sacred place everyone should visit. The temple is located at Kollur in Karnataka. The nearest train stations are Kundapuram and Byndur (Mookambika road). From the station, the bus stop is 15 min drive by Autorikshaw. Buses are very regular from Kundapura during day tme starting at 6am and it takes around an hour to Kollur. The last bus back leaves ar 9pm (KSRTC bus to Kottarakara). There are many lodges with a variety of price options, at less than Rs 500 to Rs 4000. I have added photos of the pooja timings and rates.
A glimpse of Kudajadri (which is directly connected to the temple history and your visit to the temple will not be complete without a visit to Kudajadri) can be seen from the temple. A trip to Kudajadri will take almost a day trip. One option is to take a jeep which will take you all the way up the hill to Kudajadri. Pregnant women, people with back and neck problems should not take this trip due to the rugged nature of the terrain. Expect a very very bumpy trip. Those with travel sickness be prepared for the worst. The second option and the economic and most interesting is to take a bus to half way up the hill and then walk the steep terrain, and hence not for the weak. It's around 7 km to walk. Half way during your walk you will find a Kerala restaurant where you can have puttu, appam etc. It will take around 3 hrs each way. During wet seasons, be prepared with creams to repel leeches which will be everywhere. I used 'pukayila' to apply on the leg. When I visited there many years back, we stayed overnight with the Brahmin family who looks after the temple. They were happy to provid us shelter and food and we only had to pay a small dakshina. A morning bath in the cold stream which runs down the hill was so refreshing. But overnight stays are not allowed now. Do not take plastic bottles with you, or else you will have to pay a deposit at the checkpost.
Small temple and no big gopuram. Saturday evening no pilgrims but on Sunday full crowd. Near by multiple hotels are available and no problem for veg food
Mookambika Great Temple: - Well, Kollur Mookambika history can be traced back to nearly 1200 years ago. It is said that the Goddess Saraswati of learning and wisdom received extreme worship from the highly esteemed spiritual leader, Adi Shankara. Devi Saraswati appeared before him, acknowledging the prayers.
It's a big old temple. You can find hindu sculpture inside the temple. With a tall stamba in front and there is the entrance. Ussually crowd is more in weekends. In weekdays the que might take 20mins to complete Darshan. If you can't stay in que, you can opt for 100 rupees special entry ticket. It has a much smaller que. Note: no shirts, banyan kurta, allowed for men. Means men should go top less. Women there is no such rule. You can also buy laddu Prasadam for 25rs each laddu. Photography is prohibited. You can find lots of lodges and guest houses just next to temple for stay. Travel is easy since bus is available at decent frequency. Since it is a wild life sanctuary you can find wild animals and there are resorts to stay. No idea about resort quality. Nearest city is kundapur. Nearest airport Mangalore.

A divine experience being there. Time standstill in lap of Nature there.
The ambiance inside temple is mind blowing. Temple used to be crowded during festival times especially during Navaratri festival. Weekdays are best time to visit and there won't be much crowd
Pleasent atmosphere. Beautiful temple and beautiful rituals. Very positive place of worship blanketed under lush greenery of Kudajadri in the western ghats.
Kollur Mookambika Temple is located at Kollur, Udupi District in the state of Karnataka, India. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to the mother Goddess known as Mookambika Devi. It is situated in the foothills of Kudajadri hills, on the southern bank of Souparnika River. Being situated in the land between Gokarna and Kanyakumari, believed to be created by sage Parashurama, it finds a spot in the 108 Durga Temples in the ancient Kerala. The temple is also one among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala, since Lord Shiva is also considered to be present in the temple. Though located in Karnataka, most of the devotees here come from Kerala, since the deity here is believed to have strong bonding with Keralites. Ratholsava in the month of Phalguna and Navaratri in the month of Ashwina are the main festivals in this temple.
Beautiful place offering a good view of the western ghats and also kodachadri. Nestled amidst the beautiful western ghats. Maintenance is great and the place is very clean as well. The roads to the temple are great, going through forests. If you are lucky you can see wild buffaloes.
Such a traditional temple. Always manageable crowd, except festival season. Adjacent to temple sowparnika river flows. The temple is located in Karnataka state.
If you are a believer, then the aura of this temple will definitely impress you. A great place for meditation. Situated against the backdrop of Kudachadri mountains
Devi Mookambika is the deity here. She killed the demon mookasura. The idol was consecrated by Adi Shankaracharya with swarna rekhankita linga in the front. Many devotees visit the place from far and wide. Moola sannidhi is on the kodachadri hill nearby where the weapon used to kill the demon still exists well protected through reinforcements.
