Srirangapatna has since time immemorial been an urban center and place of pilgrimage. During the Vijayanagar empire, it became the seat of a major viceroyalty, from where several nearby vassal states of the empire, such as Mysore and Talakad, were overseen. When perceiving the decline of the Vijayanagar empire, the rulers of Mysore ventured to assert independence, Srirangapatna was their first target. Raja Wodeyar I vanquished Rangaraya, the then viceroy of Srirangapatna, in 1610 and celebrated the Navaratri festival in the town that year. [2] It came to be accepted in time that two things demonstrated control and signified sovereignty over the Kingdom of Mysore by any claimant to the throne, including the successful holding of the 10-day-long Navaratri festival, dedicated to Chamundeshwari, patron goddess of Mysore and control of the fort of Srirangapatna, the fortification nearest to the capital city of Mysore.

Srirangapatna remained part of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1610 to after India's independence in 1947; as the fortress closest to the capital city of Mysore, it was the last bastion and defence of the kingdom in case of invasion.

Old ancient temple with powerful history. There was aa wonderful river flows out beside temple.there was laksha deepothsava and I also take place in that. Very happy the prasada was too tasty peaceful place. Bhakti comes when u stand by looking sri ranga idle.very memorable place it's is very near to mysore. When u go mysore add Sri ranganthaswami temple in list.out side u will get all types of worthful showpiece and pooja items.

Also, this is where the Lord's idol can be seen in resting posture on a bed of serpent known as Aadi Shesha.

There is no Entry Fees for General Entry.
Whereas for quick darshan, it is Rs 250/- Per Person.

Wonderful temple and peaceful place, its blessed to see the old manuments and such a beautiful gopuram on top of the temple.

A temple of historical significance where Ranganathar is in a lying posture. It's the Aathi or the head part established by Gautama Rishi. The next is the Nabi or madyama 70 Kms from there. The final leg part is the one in Srirangam. All three in the course of the river Kavery.

Temple visited at 8.00 pm, recommended for the atmosphere. Attention many religious people come to pray and therefore many people.

Great and oldest devotional place, you can see view of Maha Vishnu in reclining position.
The tower over the entrance bears features consistent with Vijayanagara architecture.

Ancient temple but not maintaining cleanly and the curtains are too old and can maintain a good hotel nearby that instead of small eateries

I love to visit the temple nice place to get some peaceful journey to visit at the weekend but due to covid the temple was closed for week ends

You should visit this. When I was in school they used to take trips here.

Excellent place. Not much rush was there. Parking available. But the guard was in hurry to push the people, so that others get darshan. It was 12: 30 hours, when I took darshan.

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangapatna is considered as one of the five most important and sacred shrines devoted to Lord Vishnu. These are called Pancharanga Kshetram. The presiding deity of this temple is the Adi Ranga, or the 'first Ranga'. It comes under the Archaeological Survey of India. Easily accessible from Srirangapatna railway station and is around 16 km via bus from Mysore.

Few days back I got an opportunity to visit this temple.
It was part of my tour package of Mysore.
So this is a holy place famous for worshipping Lord Vishnu avataram.
The temple is magnificent and probably one of the ancient temples in India.
There is one more branch by same name in Tamil Nadu.
The temple is 1000years old approx and gained it's popularity during Tipu sultan era.
The statue of Lord Vishnu is in lying down position and the stone work is also magnificent.
I think one should visit this temple and feel the eternity of this place.

The Gopuram is really mammoth Quite old temple,
Don't confuse this with temple with same name in Trichy, Srirangam on Cauvery.
There is market out their selling sandalwood products but they seems to be fake.
Tipu sultan final resting place is situated few yards from here.

This is an ancient temple and has stone architecture. It is clean and nicely maintained. There are few restrictions like not wearing black, no leather, etc. There are flower and offering accessories shop outside it. The people are helpful and polite. The temple is not accessible friendly to wheelchairs and strollers.

1) The temple is declared of national importance under the Ancient monuments and archaeological sites remains act 2010.2) The Beautiful stone pillars with great work on them.
3) The temple depicts the skills of the artisans in those days.
4) The temple witnesses less devotees and visitors on week days.
5) There is statue of Lord Vishnu as Ranganatha, reclining on the huge coils of serpent Sesha with multiple hoods.
6) The authorities will have work on the maintenance of the temple.

An old and Vast Narayan temple to recall the memories of our ancient technology of temple construction. People around and even far way comd here for their ritual offerings to Narayan.

Temple is marvelous with its architecture and the idols. It used to be crowded during weekends by the devotees. Avoid it in afternoon during summer as weather becomes too hot to tolerate. But inside the temple, it's little bit cool. Lord Vishnu resides in this place by River Kaveris penence, also has a historical significance. Must visit place when travelling to Mysore.

Sri Ranganathaswamy temple is very beautiful and oldest temple situated in srirangapatna town. The temple is big with beautiful architect. This temple has vishnuji God in reclining position and goddess lakshmiji.

This place is really nice to visit.
Totally there are 3 ranga temples. It is called thriranga.
This is first one -Adi Ranga.
There is one more near shivanasamudra which is Madhya Ranga
The last one is Antya Ranga which is in Sri Rangam in Tamil Nadu.
There is a belief that people get moksha or good thing happens when all 3 Ranga temples are covered in a day.
