This Shiva temple holds a special place in my heart. The panoramic view from the Gopura is truly breathtaking! It's no surprise that this temple is renowned for having the world's second tallest Shiva statue. The craftsmanship is simply remarkable, and the best way to appreciate it is by taking a boat or jet ski ride.

I visited 4 time Shri Murudeshwar Temple.

Worst administration, no connection to any departments if we ask about water with room management they will say it’s not related to us, like wise so many examples which I couldn’t write as a text message, but truly I am telling you are going to hear this one sentence at least 10 times a day (it is not related to us) and the pandit in the temple is are really government employees (goons) especially I faced this today on hill top shani bhagvan pandit is demanding money for Harathi, he is collecting through phonepay (kalikalam) if we didn’t pay they won’t give anything to you I don’t think this management will handle this smoothly, they made this as a site visit place not a holy place

Divine place and heavy rush on weekends. Queue system followed but not on a single linear line.

This is not a temple per se
It's more like a tourist trap.

I've seen better dress code implemented at the Bom Jesus Church in Goa.

Avoid this place during weekends and public holidays.

There is no parking alloted for 2 wheeler only for Buses and cars.

There is a luggage/ cloak room available in case you are just passing through.
Although I recommend that you stay in any of the Beachfront properties.

There is a dedicated sunset and sunrise point where the Sun Chariot is placed facing West.

There are 2 points for which tickets need purchasing.
Bhu-kailasam which is an artificial cave
Lift for the Gopuram Top from where the city and the sea's Bird's eye view is there.

Rental options for 2 wheeler is not as good as Gokarna.
There is Ammas in Kumta from where this temple is 22kms.

On the other hand the Murudeshwar station is only 2.5 kms away so it is a walkable distance. (The local autos here, in Kumta/Honavar/Murudeshwar are not good in fare negotiation and I've been to Chennai more times than I can count in the past decade)

It is one of the great devotional temples. The temple architecture is just wow. But I expected Shiva's idol would be bigger. But the best part of this temple is that you can see the sea on all 3 sides of the temple. Also there is a cave near the foot of Shiva's temple which narrates the story of how ravana and lord Ganesha were the reason for the temple formation in mahabaleshwar. The temple is all about scenery. There is a beach nearby, but the water is kind of polluted. By the way you can climb the gopuram and it will give a great view of the ocean around the Shiva's idol

Very peaceful place. Temple beach boating. You can have blessings from shiva visit beach relax your mind. Ample parking space If you come by car. Lift is available in gopura. You can take that lift (20rs) and can have entire view of surroundings.

We were mesmerised by the beauty of the temple, it is so vast and has 2 large elephant statues in the front, a big shiva statue on the bed of the ocean. The place is very well maintained. The temple is very beautiful and divine.

There are many hotels near by so there is no problem with accommodation and food. There are many small shops for shopping chappals, swim wear, t-shirts and so on.

We tried the speed boat ride. It was one of the awesome rides we had tried. Safety measures were taken. We couldn't try the other rides as we had to go back to Mangalore. But we tried the other rides and water activities at Malpe beach.

One can have spectacular views from the Gopuram, do try it.

Beautiful temple with parking right in front of it.as soon as you enter, there is a line for the lift to gopuram.its very slow as 1 person is standing for 5-6 people in line and it takes sometime for lifts to come.then only tickets are given for batch of 8-10.you can skip line and go inside temple.laddoo prasadam are also good.huge statue of Lord Shiva can be seen from within temple also. Do go around and take stairs all the way to top of statue, you will get amazing views. Shani temple is very good there and priest is super awesome.

Such. Divine place wish we had some more time to spend there and explore other places inside the temple but would recommend you to try spending some good time here. Parking is available. They have lift to climb and visit the gopura they do charge some amount for it. If you don’t want that you can directly enter the temple and visit inside. The sea shore is near by to the temple. Do visit if you are near the temple or if it is on the way for you during any other trip.

Very good place, you can visit lord shiva, shows (part of story of Ramayana) is there, Prasada (free meals) is there, parking and lodging facilities are available, water games on beach are also there. But going on holidays will be to much crowded. Better choose right timings.

Amazing views from the top. There is a lift and a ticket to take the lift. This temple has mythological significance which is displayed in the museum on the mountain top.

Beautiful place. The Gopura has 20 floors. The temple authorities have installed a lift that provides a view of the 123-feet Sri Shiva idol from the top of the Gopura. It is the second largest statue of shiva in the world (first one is in Nepal known as Kashinath Mahadev temple). The statue is 37 meters tall which took two years to build. Rooms are available nearby the temple if you want to stay overnight. There are water games available at the beach if one wishes to play.

A really good temple built by the RNS group, it was built by filling land on sea shore. It attracts a very large amount of tourists and Shiva statue is a engineering Marvel. Attractive Shiva temple on beautiful Arabian coast. The temple's tallest Main Gopuram and Huge Shiva structure was the attractions. There is lift facility available where you can go upto the top floor in Main Gopuram. The temple is built on the small hill lock and there is both ramp and steps available to reach there. There is also restaurant available beside the temple on top. There are lot of lodges available near to the temple vicinity. Other than temple, no other attraction in this town.

It's a place with a heaven. This place is literally beauty everyone must visit this place I suggest. This place where you can spend all day without bore. The temples surroundings are so beautiful which is priceless. Every age of people can visit this place. The temples clean and good. And the beach is also great everyone must visit this place. Don't throw plastics.

We clubbed Murudeshwar temple visit with our stay in Udupi. The roads from Udupi to Murudeshwar was excellent and the drive was just within 2 hrs between the two places. The temple is majestic and the Shiva statue is just spectacular. The history of the temple is aptly pictured in the cave below the Shiva statue. The temple's entrance, also called the 'gopura' stands at 123 feet and you can witness the breathtaking view of the Shiva statue from the top of the gopura. Also at the exit is the entrance to the beach. The biggest advantage of the beach is that you can drive along the shore!

Went there during my bike ride. Nice and clean place. This shiv temple is located near to Murudeshwar beach. Very beautiful view. You can see a lot of fishermen boats and it looks too good. I was mesmerized to see the location. Did, t go inside temple but overall great experience.

You can't get an accommodation for solo traveler unless you call home and let them talk to your parents they won't give you accommodation in any hotel. The reason? The hotelier of odeya farm house says "too many people coming single traveler, they come here run away home depression and do suicide here so police not allowing anyone appa" hotel prices ranges from 528 to 3347 INR respectively per day. NO DORMITORIES FOR ANYONE. So keep that in mind. And you cant direct busses to udupi unless or until you stand on the highway and take a bus to bhatkal then take another bus to kundapura and then another to udupi. Though the journey won't tire you but the whole process will tire you indefinitely. I still don't get why government is not allowing for tourism in these areas which is well developed connected to a national highway.

Conclusion: Not good as expected though views like that they are exceptionally good because ocean on side, mountains on the other side and temple in the middle. Might caught your attention alot.

भगवान शिव यहाँ मुरुदेश्वर के नाम से पूजे जाते हैं। समुद्र के किनारे यह एक कस्बा है जो उत्तर कन्नड़ जिले के भटकल तहसील, कर्नाटक में स्थित है। मुरुदेश्वर की यहाँ बैठे हुए विश्व का दूसरा सबसे उँची प्रतिमा आएन शेट्टी द्वारा स्थापित की गयी है। इसकी उँचाई 123 फीट है। इसके निर्माण में 5 करोड़ का खर्च आया था। यह मूर्ति शिवमोग्गा के काशीनाथ तथा अन्य कलाकारों द्वारा तैयार किया गया है। यहाँ भगवान के आत्मलिंग स्थापित है। सारे इलाके का आधुनिकिकरण शेट्टी ने किया है। केवल पुराने मूल मंदिर को यथा स्थिति में रखा गया है। मूर्त्ति के नीचे गुफा बनाया गया है। इस गुफा में मूर्तियों, रिकार्डेड आवाज द्वारा शिव पुराण की घटना को दर्शाया गया है। अर्जुन को कृष्ण द्वारा कुरुक्षेत्र में उपदेश देते हुए विशाल प्रतिमा मौजूद है। यह कन्दुका पहाड़ी पर स्थित है जो तीन ओर से अरब सागर से घिरा है।

इसके अतिरिक्त वहाँ शेट्टी द्वारा 249 फीट ऊँचा राजा गोपुरम की भी स्थापना की गयी है। यह विश्व का सबसे उँचा गोपुरम है। इस 20 मंजिले गोपुरम में जाने के लिए लिफ्ट लगा है। उँचाई से सारे इलाके का मनोरम द्दश्य देखने को मिलता है। इस लिफ्ट का किराया मात्र दस रुपया है। प्रवेश द्वार पर पूरे आकार का दो हाथी की प्रतिमा है।

यह जगह बड़ा रमणिक है। समुद्र का तट भी आकर्षक है। दिनभर यात्रियों का यहाँ आना-जाना लगा रहता है। रहने के लिए बहुत सारे होटल तथा धर्मशाला है। यह जगह रेल तथा सड़क से जुड़ा है। मैंगलुरू से165 किमी है।

This place is absolutely beautiful. The view of the Shiva statue surrounded by the Arabian sea on three sides is simply divine.
Would recommend you go up the 'Gopura' to witness the view from the top. There is a lift to go up in the Gopura.

The place was very good. You can plan to stay 1 night there near by temple. Some tips. Please be aware of some fake photographers and cheaters.

I contacted 1 photographer for some pics at the temple. He told, he will give soft copy as well along with hard copies. After clicking the pics, he handed over hard copies and told me facing some difficulties to send soft copy. Will send you in the evening 100%.
After I left from that place, he was keep on telling me will send but after 2 days he symply told system formatted and sorry.

If u are an adventurer then u area at a good place where u can enjoy scuba diving from there to NETRANI ISLAND located at a distance of around 20 km.

There is also a Rameshwara linga at the bottom of the hill, where devotees can do seva themselves. A Shaneswar temple has been built next to the idol of Sri Akshayaguna. Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to it. The entire temple and temple complex, including the 209-feet-tall Raja Gopura, is one among the tallest.

Though parking area is limited, and congested on the foothill, there is better parking space as we climb the hill.

I wanted to visit this place for so long, it's not crowded right now. Good place to visit, very calm and beside beach. Their is a cave show that happens do visit if you have time. People were following covid protocols as well.

The place has famous statue of Lord Shiva and Nandi. On one side we have the breezy beach and on the other the gigantic gopuram. Below the statue of the mammoth statue of Lord Shiva, there is artifical cave like structure where the walls are engraved or carved with history of the temple. The temple was so clean as it is maintained by private bodies and not the government. Parking is all well organized.

Couldn't enter the sanctum as i am mourning the loss of a kin. But the temple is an awesome place! Located on a patch of land or rock protruding into the sea. Has a huge shiva statue and the gopuram was towering! There is a lift facility to reach the top of the gopuram and i think one can get a better view in the sea on oneside and the western ghats on the other side! Laddoo is given as prasadam and was fantastic! Only minus is the parking spot. Its very cramped and there are no people to manage the crowd.

Flanking the shores of Karnataka lies Murudeshwar Temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. This temple is nestled on a small hill called Kanduka and is surrounded by the Arabian sea from all the three sides. Murudeshwar temple showcases a contemporary work of architecture, and the main entrance of the temple which is also known as “Gopuram” stands at around 123 feets.

The Gopuram is guarded by two elephant statues. Another glorious structure in this temple is the huge idol of Shiva. This idol is the second largest statue of Shiva across the world and often fascinates the devotees towards it. A 237.5 feet tall Gopuram is located at the entrance and is also known as the Raja Gopuram.

The whole temple is lined with the most detailed and intricate carvings depicting Lord Shiva giving the teachings of the Geeta to Arjuna and Ravana, giving Atma Lingan to Lord Ganesha. A small temple devoted especially to Sri Rameshwara is also located at the backyard of the temple.

Peaceful arena, best time to experience the beach time is early morning and night time. Please visit temple as early as possible as it will become humid and hot during later hours of the day, and you will find it difficult to walk bare foott.

Very pleasant in temple nice atmosphere, nature is awesome, in gopuram lift experience never forgetten good to such a hight place to look sourronding nature and amazing to play in beach.

Lift was closed so we climbed to it. Advised to try water sports activities at the beach outside of temple. Food best at naveen beach restaurant. Also advised to not to put slippers at the lowest stairs. Some people climb stairs with slippers and leave it directly outside temple instead of lowest stairs.

A very beautiful place and for family visiting it's such a wonderful land. The temple is very nice. And the monumental tower is so high and we can also go on top of the tower with the help of lift that is arranged with entry fee of 10 rupees per person. The sunset here is treat to watch. Lord Shiva looks nice from the peak of the monumental tower. And beach is super cool.

Purely divine and spiritual place. Have been to Murudeshwara temple many times. Best time is to visit in october month. And best time to visit is during early morning or evening time. New building charges are 10rs. Go up there and experience Murudeshwar from the top. The beaches and fishermen village. Amazing experience.

What draws your eyes as you approach is the huge 123 feet tall Shiva sitting and doing meditation. But I found the 238 feet Gopuram awesome with its lift ride to the top. It gives you a sweeping view of the entire beach and Shiva. It is a private enterprise run by Dr R N Shetty. So you will find RNS everywhere. Go to the cafe on the top where you can see the Arabian Sea and also click the Sun chariot. On the way back you can see the Krishna Arjun Bhagwat Gita Statue. The beach is clean and cool. You have to buy tickets for all the places. There is enough parking everywhere. But don't miss the ride to the top of the Gopuram. It sort of gives you the feeling that God dominated Ravana.

Beach is super cool! The facilities are so good that I fell in love with the place! I have visited many beaches but this one is special! The landscape is so rich that our two eyes are not enough to enjoy the beauty! And one more thing, we can see both sunrise and sun set if we go to a certain place! People are well received! Prices are nominal! The tides in the ocean are not high! Near by a restaurant is there where the beach view is super good!

Good place to be visited. A view from the 20th floor in the temple gopuram is awesome and the sea view is so good. Must go to place in south india. You can find the stories in the cave which is below the big lord shiva statue.

Best add-on location to visit when you visit kollur mookambika temple or udupi temple.its a Siva Temple located in the seashore. Watersports and other amusements are there. The statue of Siva and the temple are nice to visit. The Ramayana sculptures beneath is a must watch. Nice accommodation facilities available.

The temple is the main attraction in the town. It has got a huge Gopuram that stands 18 floors tall, a lift will take you up to the top at the cost of 10₹. The view is amazing.

Murdeshwara, the world's second largest Shiva, 123 feet, statue, lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea, in the Murdeshwar town, in the state of Karnataka, India. This temple is built on the kanduka hill, which is surrounded on the three sides, by the water of the Arabian Sea. The idle here is designed such, that, it gets the sunlight directly and thus appears sparkling. The 23 7.5 feet tall, rajagopuram, is one of the tallest and was constructed to its present form by a businessman and philanthropist R N Sherry. The main diety is Sri Mridesa Ling, also called Murudeshwara.

This statue is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. It is the second largest statue of lord shiva. It's the result of hard work by the artists. The place is surrounded by sea on three sides which enhance the beauty of the statue. The sunset behind this statue is a marvelous sight everyone should see.

A must visit temple for all Lord Shiva devotees located at Murudeshwar, the idol can be seen can be seen even from a distance of 2kms, being located at the banks of sea water attracts even a lot of tourists. The Shiva's Idol can be fully seen only from the top of twenty storeyed tall Gopuram.

The temple is very beautiful, and is surrounded by Arabian sea on three sides, making it look wonderful during sunset. The way to the parking area is very steep, so be very careful if you are a learner or just learned driving. Only restroom available is below the hill of the temple, and is usually overcrowded. People need to stop littering the place to maintain the beauty of this amazing place.

Well maintained temple. The gopura and Shiva statue is built with perfect precision. It is definitely a peaceful place. It is situated at the edge of west coast. There is beach adjacent to it where there are maritime services. Truly mesmerizing place.

Shri. Murudeswara temple is about 16 Kms.away from Kollur. It is a beautiful place to visit. A very tall statue of Lord Shiva is situated hear. A lot of tourists and devotees visit here daily. Since it is situated on the sea shore a number of fishing boats are found embarked here.

Except the principle sanctum, which still holds the same old flavour, the whole temple has been transformed in the contemporary style. The contemporary temple had been built by R. N Shetty, a philanthropist and businessman.

It used to be a nice and quite place when I visited it first time 20 yrs ago. Things were still being built that time. In my recent visit, saw that the place has got really crowded with constructions. It no longer feels like a temple, but more of a picnic spot. The beach is nice area for kids to play.

Most people come to enjoy the water sports in the beach but can't ignore the statue of lord shiva on the shore. It will be a mesmerizing experience to watch lord shiva in the evening during the time of sunset.

The Statue of Lord Shiva in Murudeshwara is the second biggest statue of Lord Shiva in the world after the statue in Nepal. It is located in the town of Murudeshwara, near the ancient Murudeshwara Temple. The statue and temple are located on the beach in Murudeshwara, which lies on the Arabian Sea coastal line.

Statue of Lord Shiva, Murudeshwara – History

The Statue of Lord Shiva at Murudeshwara is a very recent construction, but the town and the shrine in the temple are very ancient. There is an interesting legend associated with the history of the temple.

The Rakshasa king Ravana of Lanka was a great Shiva Bhaktha. He wanted to gain even more power and immortality by gaining possession of the Atma Linga, a Linga with mystical powers. He performed penance to Lord Shiva. The Divine sage Narada, realizing the havoc Ravana could wreak on Earth if he gained immortality, appeals to Lord Vishnu, who tricks Ravana into asking for Devi Parvati instead of the Atma Linga. Ravana soon realizes his mistake. Once more doing penance, he appeases Lord Shiva again and this time, he does get the Atma Linga. But Maheshwara gives it to him with a condition that he should never place the Linga on the ground. Ravana agrees.

Again, to save the world, Sage Narada intervenes. Mahavishnu suddenly creates an illusion of evening during the middle of the day. Ravana, seeing that the sun is about to set, wants to offer Sandhya prayers. But he is in a dilemma as he cannot put the Atma Linga down. Suddenly, a young Brahmachari appears before him. Ravana asks him to hold the Linga while he offers prayers. The young man says he will call out three times before putting it down. Ravana agrees. The boy, who is none other than Lord Ganesha, tricks Ravana and puts down the Linga.

The enraged Ravana decides to destroy the Atma Linga. He breaks pieces off it and throws them away. One such piece is believed to have landed in Mrideshwara or Murudeshwara. A shrine was built with a Shiva Linga on top of the piece that fell down here. This is the Murudeshwara temple.

Murudeshwara – Architecture

The Statue of Lord Shiva is near the Murudeshwara Temple, which is on top of a small hill called Kanduka Giri. The temple complex is of very recent construction, with a tall 20 storied Gopuram. This temple complex encloses the Murudeshwara shrine which houses the ancient Murudeshwara or Mridesa Linga. Two large, life-size concrete elephants flank the steps leading up to the temple. Near this temple is the Huge Statue of Lord Shiva, 130 ft high. The statue at Murudeshwara was commissioned by businessman and philanthropist Mr. R. N. Shetty. The statue was sculpted by a team of sculptors led by Shivamogga’s Kashinath. The statue has been placed such that it gets direct sunlight.
