Sunrise Sunset Point, Matanga Hill

This is very next to Main temple in Hampi. You can climb with a moderate trek but people above 40’s little difficult for them as there is no proper path or way to climb. There is also a small temple on top of this hill. Sunrise and view from peak is mesmerising. If you’re really meditating person, I think you’re going to have very great time.

Lovely place to view sunrise but do carry a torch and wear sneakers, which will help you climb the steps with ease

Very dangerous route to reach there. I suggest ladies and kids not to go there. The view from there is so beautiful. You can see most of the city from there. The ones who want to go there go in groups only. Because there wont be anyone most of the time. Very very dangerous route. There wont be any steps somewhere. You need to walk on huge rocks. That will be very risky.

This is a must visit place in Hampi. Doesn't matter you go for a sunrise or a sunset. But views are breathtaking. Unfortunately during our visit it was very cold and foggy so we couldn't watch the sunrise. But after few hours the sun was already up by 9am. We visited at 5: 30 the starting point for trek and reached about 30 min on the top of the hill.
Note: whenever you are travelling here make sure you have footwear with nice grips as you have to climb and get down on slippery rocks. Dont bring anything to eat or avoid bags as there are lots of monkey who seems to be nowhere but come our suddenly you open a bag or anything to eat. Best view is at the top of the hill and on the roof top of the temple. You can have 360 degree view of hampi. You can see the market, virupaksh temple, tungabhadra river, achutaraya temple etc.
Also we wanted to visit for sunset but it rained that day so the plan got flopped again. All the bes to you but. I have seen picture from other people and they are marvelous.

Perfect hill top to spend a beautiful sunset after a day out wandering in the ruins. It's like cherry on top after exploring the lost heritage of Hampi.

Once in a life time trek specially for non-trekker lazy people like me. Not that difficult to climb and definitely worth getting up at 530 am and witnessing sun rise from the top.

This is the highest point in Hampi. The views are just mesmerizing and the trek up the hill is very thrilling and adventurous.

Make sure you go here by 5 pm so that you reach by sunset.

There is something about this place.after trekking high up the hill you are greeted with 360 degree birds eye view of Hampi. This is the best point for sunrise and sunset. One must get the thrill of hiking this hill if in Hampi.

Great place in Hampi to have a panoramic view of the Green Hampi which was once the Great Vijayanagar Empire.

Its a medium level hill. You have to climb over rocks and stones to reach the top. It's fantastic view from the top. You can see the sunrise from here.

One of the best place to visit in Hampi.although it is famous for subset we went Thier in the morning and it was grate experience.you can listen to the birds humming in the morning also the best view of Hampi which makes it the most beautiful place of this area.

When in hampi catch the sunrise. Amazing climb not very long. Approx 30 mins. You can cycle up to the hill and climb. Start at 5.view is beautiful

Excellent place. Fit people (regulars) can climb in 15 minutes. At couple of turns it tests your mental strength than physical. The view from the top is superb. You can locate most hampi sites from there.

This is the first place that you must visit in hampi. The sunrise is very soothing and satisfying. I reach the place at 5 30.it took 25 mins for me to get on the top where you can see entire hampi and plan your next spot where you want to visit. Also the view is breathtaking and satisfying. The mornings there are epic. And if you are high then things go to next level!

Sunrise here is best, the trek to reach the top of the hill is also a little challenging. It is best suited for all nature lovers.

Beautiful place to be. Feel the breeze, enjoy the view and savour the moment. A view point to watch sunrise as well as sunset. Reach a bit earlier to make time for a bit risky yet enjoyable climb uphill and also to reserve your spot. You won't be bored spending long time here if you are with the right companionship.

No words to express the mesmerising sunrise view at Matanga hill. Just mind-blowing.

Being at the centre of Hampi, and also the highest point, Matanga hilltop is the best spot to get an aerial view of Hampi and it's environs.

If you trace the foothill in a clockwise direction, the road that ends at the Hampi bus station runs along the eastern side of the hill. At the northwest the east end of Hampi Bazaar terminates.

The north part of the hill practically ends at the south bank of the Tungabhadra River where the Kodanda Rama Temple is located. The eastern ridge shares its border with the Achyuta Raya’s Temple. The south is generally an irrigated valley where the zigzagging Turthu Canal and a cart track located.

The peak is located at the southern part of the Matanga hill. Somewhere in the low-lying northern section, a trekking trail connects the Hampi Bazaar with the Achyuta Raya’s Temple over the hill.

I have visited this point twice and it is totally worth climbing. The view is amazing. Sunrise and sunset both looks beautiful from the top of the hill. It is easy to reach on the top of the hill, not difficult at all.
You can see the main Virupaksha Temple from the top.
You can see almost all of Hampi from the top.
It is so peaceful that you can just sit there for hours and enjoy the view.

The most beautiful place in Hampi, the greenery, mountains, wild life, temples around it and the susent and sunrise.if I were in Hampi I would go there every morning and evening for sure. Place you will never get bored of

This was our first spot to visit as it was still dawn so we thought to watch sunrise from the hilltop (a perfect start, isn't it?). Matanga hill is just at the centre of Hampi and one can get a bird's eye view of the entire place. And the view of sunrise is mesmerizing and soothing.

Small trek to view the best sunrise or the sunset. Common tourist spot for foreigners and hampi visitors. Best time to visit either early morning before sunrise or in the evening. Small temple is present on the hill. Nice view of the scenery around. Don't miss this place.

Sunset was amazing from this place. One had to climb for about 2kms to the top. Virupaksha temple and the river is visible from this place. You have to be a little fit to climb. Further, please wear footwear that have grip.

Bestest place I have ever visited in my life time. The best time to go is 6am but the way uphill and downhill is quite difficult but those who love to explore places please go here.
