The Captain's Bungalow

We stayed at The Captain's Bungalow (Chikmagalur), on our first trip outside Bangalore (post lockdown). The entire stay was pleasant for our group of 6 friends. We were glad to have gotten the luxury tent accommodation; the accommodation was secluded and in the middle of a forest, yet very comfortable. Special thanks to Mr. Nateshan, the manager, who took care of every small detail and wish. Thanks and will surely recommend this place as a must visit if looking for a peaceful stay away from the city.

However, the road to the place is a little confusing and during rains may be tricky to maneuver (especially for small cars, I drove a Swift and we faced some issues) - do preemptively check with the management for this.

They location is excellent. You feel like you are on the movie set of Avatar with huge tall trees and massive expanding views. We went during the rainy season so there was a light fog which made it even more beautiful.

The rooms and bathrooms are very large with fireplaces and are kept very clean. The furniture is rustic but modern so a fantastic combination.

The food is a set menu for breakfast lunch and dinner. For us every meal was delicious and we really didn't need any more variety. The staff is very helpful looked after us very well, keeping us warm by lightning bonfire and keeping the fires going in the fireplace. They are always around for anything you need.

I have to add a special mention for the coffee they serve, it is simply amazing. So good that we bought three kilos from the estate!

Overall a wonderful highly recommended experience

Tucked away in the hills of chickmagalur is the cozy yet classy 'Captains Bungalow'. Our stay was really comfortable and the staff very hospitable. The Ambience is exactly what we had dreamt of - an open verandah to lounge around and stare into the scenic hills. A beautiful garden area complete with a bonfire Every evening, with hot hot snacks perfect for the chill estate climate.

The best part of the stay is the yummy malnad food, which is homely yet delicious! The staff is really helpful and obliged to all our requests esp for innumerable cups of their tasty coffee!

The bungalow itself is lavish! Rooms and bathrooms large clean and classy! Do not miss trekking around the estate it's a must do activity for all nature lovers.

Overall we had a very comfortable stay and an absolutely relaxing weekend. Thank you Captains Bungalow!

Captains bungalow was amazing and awesome never wanted to come back to Bangalore. Had a blast and a super week, the view of nature and the hills were superb and breath taking and a time of my life, the food and dessert were excellent to good. Anytime i need a break am coming to Captains’s Bungalow.

Staying at the Bungalow literally gives you a taste of what Heaven would be like if it existed on earth. The rooms are spacious and the designed to blend into the surreal aspects of its natural surroundings. Like an open air bath tub room, a fire place etc. It's just perfect. The cottages and Tents are like capsules of luxury tucked away in the beautiful Malnad coffee plantations. I would say this is truly worth an experience.
Every aspect of its design has been carefully crafted to titillate the human senses, such as the smell of burning fireplace which warms the room and the soothing sounds of the nature that are allowed to be absorbed into the rooms so guests can get the real experience of being in the outdoors yet enjoy the comforts of luxury.

The food is authentic Malnad cuisine that has been researched and studied and used to prepare the finest variety of dishes that gives you the pure sense of satisfaction. The quality of the food is absolutely top class, and this truly brings out the mastery of techniques that are used to create authentic and consistent recipes. They have a variety of Malnad dishes that they prepare with such precision that you can feel the explosion of flavours on your palate. And most importantly the personalities of the chef's are so nice that it adds immense value to the food they serve. Captain's Bungalow is definitely worth a special journey for its exceptional Malnad cuisine where distinctive dishes are precisely executed using top class locally sourced ingredients.

The service is absolutely fantastic and staff that have been trained to truly deliver the best hospitality which they consistently over deliver every time. They are extremely polite and will cater to your every need what ever the time of day or night.
They also ensure that all aspects of the home stay experience are truly felt by the guest.

A big thank you to the staff and management for curating these fine experiences for their guests and definitely worth more than just one visit.

Captain's Bungalow situated in Chickmangalur is an awesome getaway for anyone who just wants to spend a super couple or more days doing nothing but indulging and taking in a spectacular panoramic view of the hills, fields and trees.
The cool weather and mist covered evenings made our bonfire nights all the more enchanting.
The local malnad cuisine they serve is delicious, so also is their coffee!
The rooms and bathrooms are really huge and tastefully furnished.
The staff are very friendly and took good care of us. A big thank you to them.

Been here 3 times already. Everything about this place is perfect if you're looking to get out of the city for a while. Sweeping views from a tastefully done up luxurious bungalow, Excellent Malnad cuisine whipped on old-school wood fire and a sense of calm and quiet of being nestled in a 200 acre coffee estate. The staff are very courteous and accommodating and so is the estate manager. Great value for money. Fantastic experience every time.

The most comfortable and homely getaway with a stunning view of the hills. Amazing hospitality and service with the most outstanding rooms and bathrooms. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and the spread of food was delicious to say the least. Would definitely recommend if you're traveling with family or friends.

This was the perfect spot for the weekend getaway. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The pets here are just super cute and friendly.

The Captains Bungalow is a stunningly beautiful get-away nestled in the hills of the Western Ghats. I have already visited nearly a dozen times and each experience continues to reveal the wonder and charm of Chikmagalur.

I have stayed at all three accommodation offerings (luxury tents, main bungalow house, and hilltop cottages) and all have their own beauty, incredible views, and sense of natural immersion coupled with traditional architectural flavors. Natural outdoor showers, a private lake, bonfire dinners, hikes, a bougainvillea bar which overlooks the valley, yoga on the deck at sunrise & sunset, peacocks around you and in the trees are just some of the surprises that you will fall in love with.

I feel one with nature whenever I stay here. It tends to absorb you and make you feel as if you are a part of the landscape as opposed to just an observer of it. Even the weather is captivating in all it's forms. Watching the monsoons fall through lush canopies of jungle or enjoying the suns rays as they dapple the valley's paddy fields, the true beauty of this region is on full display for you at the Captains Bungalow.

All the food offered is local home made deliciousness bursting with flavor and heritage. The coffee is also amazing! Management and staff are incredibly hospitable, professional, and eager to share their knowledge and passion for Chikmagalur. If you're looking for a place to unplug, unwind and relax; someplace romantic; or just want to visit with family and friends in one of the world's most bio-diverse regions - this place is always tops my list! If you haven't been here yet, then you haven't seen and heard the sounds of heaven on Earth. I cannot wait to go back to the Captain's Bungalow and lose myself in the beauty of nature.

Excellent place to relax and enjoy. Food was very tasty and staff was very supportive. Breath taking greenery during monsoon season. I would say the monsoon season is the best time to visit. Perfect place in the lap of nature if you are a nature lover. You could possible go for a estate tour. The bungalow is well reachable and known To everyone. Bonfire was good. You would get two types of option for room. One is like the whole cottage and you will feel like a king. The veiw from the balcony is breathtaking. You can eat and drink but obviously with manners. No one will restrict you. You have to bring your liquor with yourself and you can get the soda and water here only. If you want beer the staff will get it for you but you need to mention in advance. You can pay them later. The dogs were very friendly. One of the Best home stay i have ever visited.

This was our first long road trip with my little munchkin. He is an year old and we booked this place after lot of deliberation. Was worried about the cold weather, his home cooked food, insects and mosquitoes and a list of things to say the least. We stayed for two nights and we ended up having the most enjoyable time with our baby. Parimal and his small team took the utmost care and went out of the way to make us comfortable.
The place is beautiful, one of the best I experienced in Coorg, Chikmagalur area. The bungalow belongs to Captain Gopinath (Air Deccan) and each nook and corner of the bungalow is tastefully curated giving you a feel of luxury and vintage class.
Quickly summarising the pros:
1) Cottages and rooms are huge and beautifully done like any 5 start resorts, infact better than the serai and county. Cottage rooms are like glass house with huge balcony. A small corner carved out for reading and also a fire place to keep it warm during chilled evenings
2) Bathrooms are huge with options of open view tub
3) Food is delicious Malnad style. Fresh and simple. Don’t expect pizzas and burgers, it’s like your home cooked food. Pork curry and mutton curry are to die for. They keep showering you with freshly brewed hot coffee as many times you want
4) Amazing customer service. I never saw them saying no to anything. Cottage is slightly uphill and I was feeling bad to ask for multiple things for baby but they obliged each time with a smile.
5) Very serene and green surrounding, limited rooms. Overall you can feel it’s your home and do as you like.
Things to note:
1) Food is like home made simple. Primarily South Indian flavours, but they will adjust spices etc.if you want to customize
2) The approach road to the bungalow is not too good. Need to be careful in last 2 kms
3) It’s 1 hour drive from Chikmagalur, not easy to step out and explore. It’s more a place to sit back and enjoy amidst the coffee estate
4) Cottages are slightly uphill, say 40 steps so don’t book if you have any knee pain or walking problem. Book rooms which are part of Bungalow.

Overall a great experience and worth every penny!

There is no place like this I have seen yet in this region, it's was absolutely perfect, the food, the view, the cottages, the tents.
The place is so well maintained, and rooms are next level of luxury.
Every room has a spectacular view, the abundance of wildlife just makes it all the more special,
A definite must visit for anyone looking for a very different and special experience!

Home away from home. Life slows down and you can get a true digital detox too. Worth a trip.

Heaven on earth. Great hosts even better food. Had the best conversations near the bonfire. The dogs they are the ones that took us trail walking. Will be back soon

The Captain's Bungalow is a beautiful and scenic place for a holiday or even just relaxing weekened. They have great home cooked South Indian food, spacious and comfortable accomadations and a very helpful and courteous staff. One can go for a short trek in the property accompanied by the estates dogs, who are extremely adorable and friendly. All in all its a great place located in the hills, perfect to relax, rejuvinate and get away from the city buzz.

We recently been to captain's bungalow. It was one of the best vacations we had. Place is in the midst of greenery, very scenic with mountains and cloud all around. Rooms are extremely luxurious with all modern amenities. Food is very tasty, typical Malnad style food. We had lots of privacy and fun. Staff is very courteous and responsive. Evenings were even more pleasant with barbecue and wonderful Chikamagalur rains and hot filter coffee to relish!

We will for sure visit again some time soon:)

The place is as advertised, Very generous caretakers, tasty malnad food.feels like you're at your house while having food. Huge estate and you're accompanied by dogs who takes you to every corner of the estate.

Beautiful bungalow in rustic charm. Tasty local malnad cuisine. Hospitality at it's best. A serene place to keep visiting again and again!
