We recently had the pleasure of staying here for a 1day and we are thoroughly impressed. The staff was incredibly friendly. But what really made our stay special was the amazing restaurant staff Mr Nagraj, in receptionist Mr. Karthik and Restuarent supervisors. From the moment we walked into the hotel, we are greeted with warm smiles and friendly service. The staff and superviser was incredibly attentive to our needs, and they were always happy to go the extra happy to make sure we had a great experience.

From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I was greeted with warm smiles and friendly service. The staff was incredibly attentive to my needs, and they were always happy to go the extra mile to make sure I had a great experience.

Here are a few specific examples of the excellent service I received from the restaurant staff:
My waiter was very attentive and made sure that I had everything I needed.
The chef Durai came out to personally greet me and ask me if I had any questions about the menu and is open for the feedback.

The Gateway Taj hotel was called Manjarun and for me it is a home away from home. Fresh sea food, healthy and tasty food and WONDERFUL staff (and drivers) are their hallmark.

The service was very bad for their price range and the menu was limited.
Wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to throw their money in the drain

The Gateway Hotel is a very good stay option in Mangalore. Very close to the Old Port, with the beaches north & south about 30 mins away. We stayed with family and was pleasantly surprised to receive two connected rooms. While you're here, don't forget to explore the Mangalorean cuisine in Cardamom or order in-room. The breakfast spread is excellent too. The hotel is undergoing renovation, and is to be rechristened as Vivanta in future. Overall would recommend

Service is horrible, when we entered the room, fruit platter was kept with one banana eaten and peel kept next to it, we were waiting for lift though we had pressed the button, then we asked one staff named chandra who pressed the button hard and then behind our back mocked at us with another staff, we complained to the manager, action was taken but unpleasant experience

Absolutely fantastic staff and services. Even during this time, the facilities were top notch. Good to visit for short trips with family and friends

Not spacious corridors, Plastic Tub instead of ceramic (Scope for skid while bathing). Looks very old hotel, small restaurant. But food is tasty.

Excellent hospitality with human touch. Infrastructure is a bit old and menu looks a bit less options but all the essentials are available. Iam always a great fan of Taj delicacies. The staff are open to extend their helping hand. We stayed here on a business trip. My colleague developed hot burns boils in his feet while coming from our office. He walked barefoot for few steps in the damber road resulted this. Hotel manager (Teena madam) sent us in their car to the nearest hospital. Their staff person also came to support us. Moreover they didn't charge the car bill for this also. Such a nice gesture and values demonstrated by them. Thank you so much.

Hospitality makes up for Age

I was quite nervous choosing this hotel after reading all the reviews and was dreading the REnovation related issues we might run into. The first impression was not great when we entered. But have to admit that everything from there on was wonderful, especially thanks to the wonderful staff (everyone from the Front office to the General Manager) who made sure our stay was a pleasurable one despite the construction work and remodeling that was happening around us

LOCATION: Very good location at the heart of the city.

DINE + DRINK: The High Tide bar is a wonderful place to unwind in the evening with your favourite drink. A pub like atmosphere with a good selection of Wine, Beer and Liquor. The Port cafe is good for Breakfast as well as a late afternoon Coffee and snack

ROOM: We stayed in 410, Which was a SUITE room, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Sweet view of the Heritage building and cityscape ; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Lovely Spa quality cosmetics from BIOTIQUE brand.

FACILITIES: A dingy looking Gym (with no windows and at the basement!). But it came with a good range of weights, workout stations, and Cardio machines (though a bit dated). They also have a decent Swimming pool.

SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to SATHYA at the front desk, and the Bartender at High Tide

HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment in multiple languages

COVID UPDATE: THe property has done an excellent job of ensuring safety, social distancing and hygiene to minimise the risk as much as possible. Especially the Common areas and Restaurant had good implementation of the required rules

We were staying in room 501 and 503 We were charged 7400 RS per room The room is small and the breakfast place is not good Staff are very courteous The place needs lots of improvement to be done to survive

We stayed for 3 days and during this short period staff been courteous and professional in handling customer. Rooms were nice but definitely will look forward post renovation which is expected to happen shortly as mentioned by manager. But main drawback rite now is parking lot which is not up to standards of Taj or any star hotel.

It has all the ingredients of Taj experience. Though hotel is under renovation but the helpful and extra curtsey extended by staff makes up for this problem.

Nice hotel, ambience and food. But I personally feel it's not on parr with the usual Taj Group of hotels. However I have not stayed in house.

Amazing food, very good service and a nice place to stay, must recommend Mr Suraj, who was very kind in his services and has gone out of the way, in his services

It is a really good place to have parties.the staff is very supportive and helpful.they take care of all the needs of the customers and are willing to work extra too.it's a reasonable high end hotel.good ambience.good lighting.air cooled.well maintained.pleasant experience.we can say its a really good economical place to have small parties such as Birthday parties.ladies nights.etc.

Though the original charm under different management is missing, this is still a wonderful place for food and stay.

A somewhat old luxurious hotel with a pool. But from my experience with corporate parties, the drinks and starters were bad.

The only established hotel chain in Mangalore. Not located in an upmarket region all the same it's pretty good. A bit pricey

Well maintained, one of the best hotel service in Mangalore. Little modernization required but negligible.

Not worth to be called a Taj group property. Hotel is old and needs lot of renovation. Location is convenient but rooms facing road tend to be noisy. Food and service were below expectation

Decent hotel with easy access to transportation since it is in heart of city. But cost of food is too high

Taj needs to renovate!

The rooms, furniture, doors and keys are all old fashion. No electronic key to open the door and it's a 5-star, by price. The first room showed to us was in the corner and small. We had to get it changed to another room of the same type but bigger. The buffet seating needs to increase. Sometimes someone else will take your table or you might take someone's table.

Food is tasty but the spread is less. Staff are the best in terms of courtesy and quick assistance in whatever you need. The facade is very ordinary and car park while entering is small. Location of the place is not great and there is fish stench when you come out of the hotel.

Room is clean and room service immaculate. But it is very old fashioned. Subtle things like the door knob and the locks date back to 15 years, probably. TV in the corner instead of center. Old AC controls. All these do not make a satisfactory 5-star experience.

Reply to Taj:
If you know that you need to renovate and accept that the hotel standards are below par, you should not be charging so much.
We come to Taj and spend a lot of money to make sure that we get the best stay in town. But this is not the right way to woo guests. I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be visiting Taj again even though you renovate.

The place is located a short distance sway from city centre. The buffet spread is excellent and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The food quality is also not too bad. I would recommend it personally for a family outing by the poolside to enjoy a leisurely dinner.

I loved this place. We got a free upgrade. The room was lovely. Cardamom restaurant is good food around 4 times the cost of the really bad food you get outside. Some of the waiters actually learn your tastes and preferences. There are a lot of smiles, some of which are fake. The towels are new and clean. The foot massage at the spa was good. The gym is tiny but functional. The equipment works. While in other places pigeons drink out of the swimming pool, here we saw a kingfisher do the same! We enjoyed a game of carrom in the evenings. I didn't like the poolside cafe that much, but they do give room service.

Food is not too good. But you can book for a fairwell party or get together party. It is also having a swimming pool back end. A littke garden front end. Rooms were neat and service is helpful.

The hotel is ok. The facilities are basic and food quality in buffet is average. Overall, the charges are higher compared to the amenities provided.

Ambience is good, food was superb, service is courteous and prompt. Having gathered for a family function enjoyed to the hilt.

It was just amazing services was superb and the lounge was big and decorated it is truely an amazing hotel.

Inspite of being a '4star' establishment the hotel doesnt have parking space for motorcycles. I have not seen any cycle racks also. The staff shows an area at the entrance outside the premises where the bikes are parked hapazardly. This doesnt fit into the image of a '4 star' hotel. Even other facilities like Goldfinch, Ocean pearl, Deepa Comfs, Ginger have designated spaces in their premises. Hope the management rectifies the matter.

Well designed and decorated with AC large Hall. It is located at near to well known landmark which is helpful for finding it easily. It is best Hall to conduct professional and personal programs.

One word to describe this Hotel. CLASS Everything one wants, will end here. The Hotel is situated in a nice and calm location. The infrastructure is outstandingly good. FOOD IS ALSO VERY NICE.

The food here and the ambiance is really fine. Rooms are well maintained. Don't and never had anything bad to say about this place:)

The hall set up was spot on. The ambiance was very good. The food was excellent. The service provided was also top notch. One of the only problem I faced was with the bike parking. It was right outside the hotel and I really wished it was inside the hotel along with the car parking section.
