The Last Resort - Kemmangundi Resort & Homestay

The stay was nice, the environment was so pleasant, homely food was served with excellent hospitality. Special thanks to Shalini, Prajval and Suri.

This was a office trip of 25 folks, that would automatically mean that there would be multiple things to take care, budget, food, starters, rooms, hygiene and much more. Mr. Vinu has been noting but exceptional from the Day 1 of my contact with him to the last conversation 2 days after the stay. He has been flexible in all possible ways and has accommodated every bit of my last min changes or requests - (For Eg - We were supposed to arrive at 1 but reached at 8pm). The place is beautiful, the rooms very spacious and the bathrooms could fit in a couple of beds! The bonfire and BBQ was arranged very well, the amazing akki roti for dinner and chicken curry for breakfast with idly making it a very memorable trip. Mr. Vinu can be defined in one word - Flexible. So do visit this place, it's a lovely little warm homestay.

It was a very good experience at the last resort. The food and hospitality was extremely good. I would rate the food a 7star. The staff were very kind to provide anything we requested for.
Hebbe Falls, Z Point, Baba Bundangiri, Mulayangiri were very close to the resort. Best place to be close to the nature.

Veenu Bird and this Team are a delight to be with, during your vacation in a homestay. Veenu and his Team made our stay just like a Home away from Home. Veenu had fantastic suggestions to see, experience around Chikmagalur and all suggestions turned out fantastic making our vacation full of fun, adventurous with amazing views. The resort / homestay is filled with flora and fauna and is very well maintained.

Veenu even possess a secret of making organic port wine naturally from the fruits cultivated from the resort. We were given a Christmas surprise with Cakes, Port Wine and made our Christmas very special.

Nice place to spend time along with friends and family. Food was good. Overall experience was enjoyable.

The exterior ambience is good and staffs are very polite (but untrained), and dinner was nice
When it come to the rooms and facilities
The mattress is very hard and there are lots insects and ants are every where,
However the most annoying part is that they do not have running hot water apart from morning time,
How about the people like us coming in the late evening, how they gets freshen up in this freezing cold?

Location:
1. The place is located about 55 km from Chikmagalur city. It's beautifully surrounded by lush greenery and a variety of flowering plants. It's a nature lover's paradise.
2. Mullayangiri is about 1.5 - 2 hours away and Baba Budanagiri is an additional hour or so. Recommend allotting almost an entire day to this in case visiting them during your stay here.
3. Kemmangundi is quite close (about 3 km), Z-point trek start point is about 30 - 45 minutes away. The Z-point is an easy to moderate hike.
4. We did not notice any major drugstores after Chikmagalur city. Hence it's advisable to have important medications and first aid on hand. An on-call doctor is available (mentioned by staff).
5. We visited the place during weekdays and in the monsoons; it felt like a private haven.

Rooms:
1. The place has standalone cottages with each of them having 1,2 or 3 rooms. Most of the cottages have a distance of 50 metres between them along with some dense greenery.
2. There is decent privacy but be mindful if playing music or loud talk at night. The place can get extremely silent.
3. The rooms are decently sized but the maintenance is so-so. Housekeeping may be provided on request. It's a nature-based stay so expect a few bugs and crawlies. P. S: Do not expect the room standards of a luxury resort.
4. The bathrooms were huge. The hot water is available only from 6 a.m. To 11 p.m. (or longer depending on the weather and the number of guests). The resort has a common Gujarat boiler system. For hot water later during the day, you shall have to check with the manager.
5. We visited the place during the monsoons and faced a power cut for the most part of the day. The Genset is put on after 6 p.m. But during the day you may have to request it if required.
6. The cottage has a large sit-out with a TT table and a carrom board (worn down because of usage and weather). The more concerning part was the sheer number of mosquitoes in the sit-out. Carrying a mosquito repellant is recommended.

Food:
1. The food was simple, delicious and had a homemade vibe. Shalini was extremely courteous and proactive in her service. We chose an all-vegetarian meal package.
2. The food is served in the common dining hall at the resort. Room service was provided for tea in the mornings and evenings.
3. There are no major restaurants nearby, hence dining at the resort would be the best option unless you are visiting Chikmagalur city. A few small 'Iyengar-style' bakeries and a tiny tea joint are available at a walking distance of about 20 - 25 minutes (or 5 minutes by car).

Other Services:
1. Wifi/Cellular Reception: We were not on a workation so I have no idea about the WiFi service. The cellular reception was good with 4G internet service available.
2. The resort provides a private bonfire facility; we did not have one due to the rains.
3. Wheelchair: The property is wheelchair friendly. They also provide a wheelchair if requested well in advance.
4. You can expect a few cats and dogs in the common spaces of the resort. They keep to themselves unless you wish to play with them; in which case they are a delight.

All in all, if you enjoy nature and quiet vacation this place is perfect! Great service by Mr. Veenu & Mrs. Shalini. Cheers!

I had stayed for a day last week in this resort, I didn't had much talk with the manager but after check in I had went out with my family to visit hebbe falls, when we're getting late I called and requested him to keep the lunch till 5 as we're getting late in hebbe falls initially he didn't agreed and hesitant but I didn't argued as I felt like a PG rules after that he said ok.
Food timings need to be extended when the guests were outside or unforseen circumstances.
The lady who assisted us was very kind she was helpful.
Rooms were filled with insects and no toiletries, had serious power cut issues even there wasn't any rain, atleast they could've turn on the generator/power backup and hot water available only in the morning but if you request they'll provide.

If you're Vegetarian, when it comes to food very less options in Veg cuisine and need to improve a lot, food taste was average as we pay equal price same as for both veg and non veg not worthy.

Near to kallathagiri falls, hebbe falls and z-point trekking
Compare to other resorts price is reasonable
Enough Parking space
Garden surrounded by the rooms were simply superb and maintained well
Quite environment
Bonfire is an added advantage

Independent cottages with huge bathrooms.some cottages have huge bathrooms. Lots of flowers around cottages. Cars can be parked near cottages. Food was good. Special mention has to be for Mr. Vinu, Mr. Mahendra & Ms Shalini who made our stay very comfortable and homely. It is boon for the traveller's who want to trek to Z point, Hebbe Falls as the resort is very near to Kammanagudi.

Located in a quite scenic place.the food was decent but sometime when it gets crowded it becomes difficult.
Nevertheless good place and good host.

Great place to spend the time with your family, friends and colleagues. This resort is very much connected to the nature and you feel refreshed. Food was good but nonveg options was not available in the afternoon. Also, no much vegetarian stater options available. However, the overall experiences was enjoyable.

Very neat & comfortable stay, good ambience. Very good & homely food. Nice caretaker - Shalini, who was very helpful & made the stay memorable. Above all, very reasonably priced; in particular if you want a budget friendly homestay.

This our 6th time visiting this resort. Absolutely love the stay and ambience.
The staff are so polite and hardworking throughout the day. They provide good home made food and we ordered few other dishes apart from what they serve and they were kind enough to make our stay as convenient and enjoyable as possible.

They also provide a Jeep that takes you to Hebbe falls.
We were totally 3 families and 5 kids.
Loved the private bonfire, Music and most importantly the Nature.
Perfect place for a staycation too.
Will definitely be coming back again. 100% recommend this resort to my friends and family!

We stayed for two nights and had a fantastic time! The staff at the resort were quite helpful. Mr. Vinu deserves special recognition for being so hospitable and ensuring that we had a nice time.

The rooms are wide and tidy, with large porticos. In the evening, there will be a bonfire. The food was decent.

We got to meet the resort's owner, who happened to be there at the time of our visit. He is a true gentleman. He has put a lot of love and passion into this location.

Will surely go back again!

Pro tips:

1. Don’t forget to carry mosquito repellent roll ons. Will come in handy during nights, when you are in the open.

2. There are 2 bars within 1 km from this location. So don’t worry

I have been with family during 1st week of June.it was awesome place to spend a time both with family and friends.

It was a lovely place to stay and get connect with the nature. Had a great time and hospitality was too good. The manager was so helpful and guides us so well. Food was good too overall we had a good time. Even the kids enjoyed.
