We had breakfast for 2 days here. Karabath, dosa idly, vada were good. Tables were kept clean. Ambience and atmosphere were standard, do not expect anything fancy here. Service was prompt and good. A good and standard place to have a south indian breakfast.
The restaurant have limited options. We tried the butter masala Dosa and jamoon. The jamoon was fresh and good in taste. The butter masala Dosa had too much butter and we couldn't finish it. Don't order butter masala Dosa if you can't eat a lot of butter alone. The taste of Dosa was good and it was crispy.
The food was a absolutely tasty and total worth for money. We visited the place at around 10 am and they were sort of still cleaning which was strange for as a tourist from Mumbai
They also had a couple of boards that stated SORRY NO URGENT SERVICE & DON’T WASH HAND IN PLATE. Sort of found them funny but despite that the service was fast
Had benne masala, curd rice and coffee. All items were superb, but sone pe suhag was the coffee. Excellent. What else can you expect in chikmagalur? Great service, clean tables and a delight to eat.
The butter masala dosa and gulag jamun are the specialities of the place that has been in existence since 1960. The masala dosa is of a larger size. Crisp on the outside and soft inside. The coconut chutney is a perfect match.
Town canteen is my all time favorite restaurant for Dosas and coffees. I recommend this place to all those who visit Chikmagalur. I haven't really tried any other food in this restaurant. Town Canteen is Dosa for me. Situated on the way to Mullayyangiri it is easy to stop over and grab a bite.
OMG.no words for the Benne Masala Dosa we had here.they only serve breakfast food all day.perfect dosas.we had lunch and had breakfast the next day here. A MUST TRY.
The location is approx. 2km away from the city centre. Restaurant is recently renovated. The dosas are really delicious specially the butter masala dosa. The taste of butter oozing out from dosa is unique and at a reasonable price. Restaurant is bit congested but cleanliness is good.
Best masale dosey I have ever tasted, and trust me, I have tried quite a few places in Karnataka acclaimed for their masale dosey. The consistency is unbelievable! Only wish they had better rest rooms.
The best restaurant for south indian tiffins. Can get crowded during week ends.simple place and decor the butter dosa is delicious, liked filter coffee too.
Decent Food place. Tried Butter Masala Dosa and Plain Dosa. Dosas are served with chatni, no sambhar. Dosas were oily, dripping oily! Tea and coffee is also served. Coffee was good.
Had beNNe masale dose, rice bath n pakoda, jamoon and kashaya here. All of the above items were too good. Rated yum. Friendly staff and very courteous owner. Since I went on a weekday was not that crowded that we had to wait in queue and all. One of the must try place, when you are chikkamagalurua.
Nice place to have our South Indian tiffen items. You don't get any kind of other items except south Indian tiffen when i want for late lunch. Next day morning I came here and had a amazing dosa. Dosa is a must try. Other than that we didn't find that enthusiastic item here.
Similar to Vidyarthi bhavan in Bangalore. They serve the finest dosas in town. What makes it special is the non commercialisation of the place which doesn't draw the unnecessary noisy crowd. Only genuine people who know about the place pay a visit!
Town canteen, as the name says. Its Everyone favorite in the town it seems, from morning 6 to evening 9, they serve Dosa and coffee. U can't find any menu card and price list. They don't have varieties of items, Idly vada dosa, masala and butter masala dosa, kesari and kara bath or some kind of bath, coffee and tea. But all tastes good. Very tiny place, can serve 30 to 40 members at a time definitely not more than that. One of the best place to have masala dosa. Try lip smacking butter masala dosa.
Hype just hype nothing there running on age old fame nothing else not retaining old quality that was the soul and no good service waste of money. Getting modernised but you get many more modern hotels & restaurants around Ckm lacking is what people go there for "quality and taste". Sorry!
A must visit place in chikmagalur for coffee lovers. Love the vibe here. The ambience is very good. Friendly staff and good customer service. Highly recommended!
Traditional south Indian food are served here.i tasted masala Dosa and set Dosa along with coffee.its just average quality and reasonable price nothing special.suggested to reduce oil and quality to be acceptable to all.overall it's quite pleasant and easy to locate also
The best hotel in Chikmagalur. It's known for its mouth watering dishes. And one of the oldest hotel in Chikmagalur. You'll still find that classy rural things out there.
Awesome mouth watering crispy masala dosa to die for. Don't miss out clean and tidy efficient service not wheelchair accessible no restroom facilities. Parking service available
The oldest eatery in Chikkamaglur. The aroma is enough to draw one into the eatery. Opens very early. Quite crowd due to the authentic south Indian breakfast. Masala dosa and gulab jamun are the favourites. The Vadas are crisp and very filling. A must visit if in Chikkamaglur.
This place is over hyped. All they have is Dosa or masala Dosa with chutney.u ask sambar, no sambhar.ask idli, no idli. Two stars given is only for quick service and for tasty Filter coffee.instead u can go to the nearest hotel udipi where u get varieties of food. Guys if visiting townhall or any other hotel pls ensure that u park 2wheelers or 4wheelers after checking the parking board.they keep changing the board everyday.so pls b aware and avoid getting fined.
The place looks deceptive. We thought of skipping it after seeing the ambience. But went back somehow to try it. The dosas were just out of the world. Dosa is available only in the evening.
Place was in the middle of the town transportation is easy but maintenance should improve and seating can be improved rest all are good and reasonable prices
