Been visiting this place from a lot of years for breakfast. It'll be fully occupied during the weekend. But the road construction currently going on has made the restaurant relatively empty.
Although they are famous for their Sagu Dosas, I find it slightly underwhelming, still prefer their Masala Dosas. They are good. But my favorite thing to eat here is their Badam Halwa. I never miss it whenever I go there.
The service is okay. And price is just as you'd expect from a place of this type.
This is a part of a chain of Hotels (Just two branches as of now I think) which dates back to 1920s and the patronage they elicit is purely because of the tasty south Indian food they serve and not to mention, their excellent support & service staff.
They had a branch in Kormangala which was shut down and I now often visit their Basavanagudi Branch and mostly feast on their Bale-yele full oota (Full meals served on plantain leaf). Each & every item (starting from their juice, kosambri, variety of side dishes - all the way to their obbattu, bisi-bele bath, sambar & rasam) is very tasty. The icing on the cake is their support staff who forcefully feed you to 'their' hearts content.
Will definitely recommend this iconic place to anyone who is looking out for authentic Udupi style food. They also serve ala-carte dishes - plate meals (both North Indian & South Indian), Poori saagu, lot of rice items which are tasty & friendly on the pocket too.
Quite spacious, well appointed, clean restaurant in GBazaar. Food is tasty and service is good. No more disappointments at having to wait outside Vidhyarthi Bhavan.
We had dinner and also special lunch.it is very difficult to finish special lunch as the varieties are so much.tastes very good.grape juice, corn salad, pulao, vada, ghee poli and many More were superb.serving Person was too good in his service.reasonable for rs 280 for a meal
Too expensive for the quality of food and service. Are in a prime location and it's more nostalgia and legacy that runs. Not a good first time place, but decent food. Very clean and hygenic so that's a plus definetly.
Did the cardinal mistake of ordering north indian food in a restaurant famous for its south flavours. The palak dal kitchdi turned out to be a forced blend of dal kitchdi with palak gravy. Very soggy and drowning in garlic. I should have stuck to Masala Dose and Uppittu.
A well located hygienic hotel. Delisiyous food. A verities of menu. Now north Indian lunch is available with fine roti. Car parking is a problem. The whole area is under renovation.
Visited the hotel today, 6th August 2023, for the first time - and ordered Poori. I was shocked to see Poori being made from Maida! - a cheap and banned substance - and, on top of it they are charging Rs. 85/- per plate! (Anybody can easily make out the difference between Maida and Wheat Atta. Pooris prepared from Maida will be rubbery).
This is outright cheating!
Why should I pay Rs. 85/- for a cheap stuff like maida?
The hotel doesn't seem to be bothered about people's health or give their money's worth - but they are only interested in making quick money by 'pushing' sub-standard ingredients in their preparations.
Even the tea which I had was not good. It only smelt like milk powder.
Fantastic traditional meals on a banana leaf during lunch. Very nicely prepared and served with a lot of care. Starting with grape juice, 3 palyas, puliogare, poori sagu, ambode, pulav followed by plain rice with sambar, rasam and curd rice. Holige, payasa, curd vada and ofcourse pickle and papad. Love it!
Outstanding special south Indian thali! Every time we've been there they have new items. The food is super tasty, with lots of variety. Will continue to be a regular there.
