There is positive ambience in the location and inside of the Hotel. It stands in the middle of a beautiful flower market. Surrounded by temples.

A must visit in Bangalore, Dosa is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, totally worth the hype.
(Less crowded during 2 PM)

Definitely a lot of positive vibes at this historic foodie Paradise.standard Dosa Menu, lovely filter coffee at very economical prices.

If you're traveling all the way here just to eat, I highly recommend you not to do it. This must be one of the most highly overrated eateries in Karnataka. The taste here is absolutely nothing special. In fact, it's like 1% of the 99 type dosa you get near Vijaynagar and Hosahalli DMart. The dosa is so heavily loaded with ghee, to the point that it feels more like they tried to make a kajjaya (dessert) instead of a dosa. The only difference you can make out compared to the normal dosa is that it is more like a slightly crispier version of a set dosa that's darker in colour. The kesaribath was okayish. The coffee was terrible, it tasted very bittery, watery and barely had any milk in it.

The only saving grace for this place is that it is well-managed with a token system and the waiters do a decent job serving. I visited this place during less than busier hours, so I can't comment on the crowd management in such conditions. There's a phone number to make reservations, make sure that you dial it if you're planning to visit during the busy hours.

It's just hyped place.dose is yaak. I have had better.it's not worth a penny.better to have at road side.as Bengaluru guy don't fall for words.it's just hyped again.place

Vidyarthi Bhavan has been on my favourite list for many ears! Finally, I visited yesterday for breakfast. There was a big crowd for reservations! Luckily, I got a table within a minute because I went single.

I ordered Idli Vada, Masala Dosa, and coffee. Below is my review.

* Masala dosa is topnoch. I had two dosa! 2nd dosa I had without chutney:)
* Filter coffee is really good.
* Vada is good.
* Idli is not bad.
* sambar I didn't like
*chutney, I felt taste loss. I apologise to the Vidyarthi Bhavan team. Maybe others like I dont know!

Overall, the experience is good! I suggest Masala dosa and coffee I must try.

Note: Incase if I waited a long time to get the table maybe my reviews might be different! Also, anyone planning to go by four wheeler, it's a very crowded market area and it's hard to find a parking plan accordingly.

Excellent fare especially the masala dosa, crisp on the outside and spongy soft on the inside.

Too oily food. Could have been better if it is less oily food, for health reasons. Taste is important, but not at the cost of health.

Visited the hotel at 9 and had to wait till 11 to get a table. One way to cut the waiting time is by getting a reservation over phone and reach on time. The crowd management is done very well. People are made to wait near the door so that nobody is waiting near your table waiting for you to finish your food and get up. Even though the place is crowded you can enjoy your food peacefully.
The management has maintained the vintage vibe in the hotel so you can feel the presence of the hotel since a long time.
Coming to the food:
Well you can expect a simple and stomach friendly food. May be a bit overhyped but you will enjoy the food coz of waiting for long hours to fill your tummy.
Masala dosa was crispy and doughy and immersed in ghee which was good.
Poori and aloo bhaji was good and less oily.
Idly wada dipped in sambar was really good loved the sambar.
If you are reaching late better get an appointment over phone and go or have some light food and then go so that you have the energy to wait in the queue.
Worth trying once.

Vidyarthi Bhavan is quite a homely place for a person who studied in National College, frequently visited the place then, now and will be visiting in the future as well.

Dosa here is definitely what ppl wait for, please make sure you are patient enough when visiting this place.

The only restaurant where you need to book on swiggy despite standing right infront of the resto.

We took the parcel.poori was so cold and sabji was not at all good.never order poori sabji. And dosa was not up to mark.it was not karak and chutney was full watery.

The dosa is crispy. On weekends too crowded. May have to wait for more than one hour. For sagu masala gets over very fast. Problem is there is no Masala in Masala dosa if you order extra dosa, again takes 15-20 minutes of waiting.

Since people have been raving about this place decided to visit on a working day. Extremely crowded but waiters managed it well. Limited options. I did not feel the food was great to make you travel far. It stated same like any other darshini hotel in some food items such as poori, darshini was better. If you live nearby then it makes sense

Size of dosa is small. Taste as just as normal as any other place now. Not as good as it was before

This place is hyped much, but the reality is we have many good restaurants for Masala Dose (CTR Shri Sagar, Bengaluru Cafe etc) compared to this.

I don't know what's so special about this place. I have eaten better idli n dosa in other places. What is the hype all about here? To prebook n wait in que for hours together to eat not so good food. Not worth the wait, not worth the price, not at all worth the taste. My frnds had loosies after eating the cold sambhar in here

Crazy old place. Its particularly famous for it's masala dosa. There are always queues outside. The menu is fixed and limited. About 8 items but taste really good.

I personally felt the masala dosa was good but not great but my husband loved it and the kesaribath.

Reach there before 7 or max 7: 15am or risk waiting for at least an hour. Well even the hour's wait is worth it because the masala dosa is one of its kind. Any other dish available is only to be treated as a filler, so expect the quantity to be likewise for anything other than the Dosa.

And it's totally worth all the hype

Just because of the name and since it's an old place all the hype around it. Nothing special about the dosa or chutney, you will get the same taste in any sagar restaurants.
This is completely based on my own personal experience, waiting in the line for almost 1 hr and then getting a seat in one of the most congested seating places I have experienced, I really do not know if it's worth the wait.

One of the best dosa corner that you can find in Bengaluru apart from CTR. The dosa is so perfect that you won't get the thought to even break into pieces. The ambience of the place is good and the place will be always crowded

This place is being run since very long time and would recommend people to visit an hour or two prior as weekends are really packed here and waiting period grows on as well. Recommended eateries are dosa, Kesari nath and coffee.

Masale dose is very oily (they call it as butter) and chutney is very dull in taste.kharabath and kesribath were good to taste.tea is nothing but sugar water whereas coffee is worth for price.overall its average.not up to the fame these days

One of the over hyped restaurants in Bangalore. Rates are also high when compared with the other good restaurants. Instead of waiting in a queue we can have dosas in other restaurants nearby.

Dosa here is made to perfection. Crispy on outside, roasted to a perfect brown. And soft on inside. Served with a side of copious amounts of coconut chutney with free chutney refills. Finish it off with a south Indian filter coffee. Truly a heaven for dosa lovers.

Old vidyarthi Bhavan was apt different from the vidyarthi Bhavan you see today. The food quality has dropped to great extent. I got a small scrubber piece in dosa which got stuck in my throat for almost a day. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone who wants to try good food!

It's an Heritage and someone can't doubt the same. Authentic taste with simplicity makes this place priceless. Just visit to experience the old days.

Worst taste ever.dosa is very oily.puri tastes so bodly that we left most of the puri on plate itself. Rates are too high.idly is very soft and tasty.

Well I Have tried so Many South Indian Outlets but this doesn't live upto the expectations. Rude Staff. Half the items not available. Dosa is Oily Despite telling him less oily. Staff gave a deaf ear. Tea was good. Overall Okay okay Place.

The dosas are overrated. You go there to experience a piece of history. Same with CTR and MTR. There are far better dosa making restaurants in Bangalore.

Tried Benne masala dosa, rava vada, kesari and coffee.dosa is thick but crispy.rava vada was also good.coffee was very tasty.kesari was moderately sweet.

This place needs to introduction if you are a true Bangalorean, the buttery, flakey, crispy dosas are ones to die for, absolutely lip smacking and served with some amazing chutney. Keep in mind that you may have to wait in queue for around an hour since this place is usually packed with people. Opens at 6.30 am.

Touched all the taste buds as usual. Pure Nandini ghee preparation is too yummy to be described in words. We ate khara bhat, kesari bhaat, sambhar vada, as finally masala dosa, above that masala team, tooooo yummyyyyyyy.

Very famous and popular with local people. Serves one of the best masal dose in Bengaluru. But do not go on weekends as there will be too much people and quality of dose will not be good.
If you go on weekdays you will get best dose. Ask them for roasted dose.

Be ready to share your table with a complete stranger. Even during coronavirus, they forced us to share our table and when we resisted they asked us to leave furthermore it was overcrowded too! Regarding Food: it is just okay taste; CTR, Hallimane, MTR, Paakshala are far better! Extremely over-hyped and surprisingly disappointing place. Its better to SKIP!

Went there well prepared to try all the breakfast items. Ordered Idli Vada, Masala Dosa, Khara Bath and Poori. Their Masala Dosa is a must try item in the menu. Try to go maximum early in the morning, they are open from 6: 30 am because they area around the restaurant is a good place to have a walk, you can find many flowershops and fresh vegetable vendors which altogether makes the area aromatic. Go there asap

This defines the South Indian taste so well. I loved dosa chutney, vada dipped in samber and kashayam. Worth the try!

Extremely arrogant, rude and harsh approach towards customers. The cashier as well as the people who provide parcels are filled with ego and also the restaurant has lost the taste which it used to provide in the past. What's more ridiculous is they charge Rs. 3, for a small piece of foil paper to pack 1 dosa. Also, would request the customers to recheck on their bill totals, as i was intentionally/unintentionally wrongly charged by a error in the total, which i realised after getting back the parcel at my house. The taste it was known for has been lost, would recommend to try other new places, which give their customers a good taste along with a reasonable amount of respect to its customers.

We have visited this place on New Year day I.e. 1st January 2019 and as the other reviews read and said this is one of the most famous and oldest hotel since 1943. We had to literally wait for almost 1.5 hours to have the yummy yummy and tasty butter dosa at very minimal taste which is unbelievable. As soon as you visit this place you need to enroll your name along with number of person count and wait in the queue. When we went today it was 75 for us and 28 was running so it took almost 1.5 hours for our number to come. If you have huge count of 6-8 members better to enroll it or split it into two batches or else it will take too much of time which happened with other people who were waiting in the queue.

Overall the taste is what will make you forgot about all the wait that you have did outside. Best and must try dosa in Bangalore.

Oil in the dosa has increased by a lot over the recent years. The crispiness and the taste remain more or less similar. I'd still go!

Have been a regular customer for the past 50 years. The world's best Masala Dosa is available at this hotel. The taste of the Dosa remains the same over the past 5 decades!

Vidyarthi Bhavan, standing tall from 1943 till date is a beauty in itself. Right in the heart of 'Gandhi Bazar, Bull Temple', you can find the young, charming Vidyarthi bhavan. Opening daily around 6: 00 am to 11: 30 am & then again starting at 14: 30 till 20: 00 day-in & day-out. Was astonished to know, it would remain closed every Friday, just to remember 15th Aug 1947 (Day we were an Independent nation was on Friday).

Its quite a small place, but hold large hearts for the people of Bangalore.

Masala Dosa is the Star Item here, along with Vada (Uddina vada & Rava vada) being the Promising Prince. Liked Coffee, which was at its best.

They serve finger licking dosas and vadas with tasty chutney. Expect to wait for a long time. Even at 4pm which is odd-time, we had to wait for half an hour. But the taste is worth the wait.

Amazing place for a Breakfast or Evening snacks.

This a great place for Karnataka style breakfast and evening snacks. Usually it is over crowded and you might have to wait for your turn to get inside the restaurant. The service is a little bit slow. But the Food is worth every minute u waited. Special items: MASALA DOSA, RAVA IDLI.

First time I had Masala Disable in Vidharti Bhavan The taste was different from other hotels and I go to the Bhavan whenever possible.

Food is good as usual. But strangely, when I asked for coffee table book (for viewing), I was told it is in sealed cover. Wonder if it is for sale only. Expected a more courteous response.

The traditional restaraunt is famous for the South Indian breakfast. One needs to wait for at least an hour on the weekend days to get in. Also do not miss the sight of how the plates are brought to your table.
