Akkarã Homestay and Ayurveda Center

We find Akkara Homestay is a good place for social get together, food and stay. Natural lawns and the shelter with seats and tables on the river bank are all attractive. Two hundred years old rooms with wood panelling and furniture are very rare and special.
We will not hesitate to recommend this resort to any one who likes village life with a proximity to urban area, Kottayam. ROY JOHN

Just went in for a function. The property looks spacing and along the Meenachil river. Has got ample parking and a good place for hosting 100-200 pax events. Good privacy and don't think loud music is a problem. Need to take a few narrow lanes and that's a catch but property opens up well to cater to a large crowd. The rooms were good which is what I was told.

Pathetic customer service. Really bad experience. I have booked a room for my parents after paying half of total amount in advance. I have requested for a ground floor room in view of a particular medical condition of my father (I have discussed in detail about the medical condition). They have agreed to give a ground floor room. We were traveling from a distant place and after reaching the property (reaching the property itself was very difficult) we had to stand out side the reception for 10-15 min since reception was closed and one person opened the reception room after making multiple phone calls. Then he told ground floor room is not available since it was already allotted for a group, and no lift facility available for upper floors (father had a surgery few weeks back). So we were forced to look for some alternative options and we had roam around for 2-3 hours to find a suitable stay.

Nice place for get together. With serine beuty of meenachil river. Cootages are there for night stay. Ample car parking area. Can arrange functions in the in the river bank

Clean and spacious place, big clean room, lots of open space. To a cool place, no sound pollution, two side river views.

The Homestay is located in a very beautiful place and it just feels going back to our grandparents house with that ambience, the way they have kept the room interiors it’s just perfects the meaning of a Homestay. The food provided was simple and delicious which is homemade. Dinner was served with chicken curry, chapathi, salad, rice, curd and dessert. Breakfast was appam and vegetable stew. Breakfast and lunch was extremely delicious. Mr. Renjith caretaker is a extremely welcoming person thanks a ton for making me the stay comfortable.

Cons:
Dinner was good but could have been more dishes or else Rs. 350/- per person is bit expensive for what they provide.

Rest all a very nice experience. Roads are beautiful to reach the place only the last few minutes is bit small and it’s not at all a tough to reach, I drove my car easily in that path.

* The place is situated near the river and got a lovely ambience.
* Toilets inside and outside.
* The buildings and environment is also well maintained.
* But the road to the place is not that good.

We along with five of my immediate family had the opportunity to stay two nights at Akkara home stay facility in early May this year. We were very fortunate to enjoy the facility to the fullest. The rooms were spotlessly clean and tidy. Facility director Mrs Santhamma Kurian made sure that we were looked after well. The Syrian Christian Kerala breakfast and lunch catered were exceptional. My wife even picked up few recipes from Mrs Santhamma Kurian. The facility manager Mr Renju was very helpful to make sure that everything being taken care of. Amazing experience indeed!

Mariathuruthu - Thuruthu in malayalam reads banks of the river.

A sprawling 7 rooms (6 Ac n 1 Non Ac) 215 year old ancestoral home converted to home stay.

The flora and fauna in this home is amazing home for birds, squirrels, skirting across mangoose and is on the banks of Meenachil River.

The Meenachil River took the brunt of 2018 floods when the dam in Idukki was opened.

A exotic fruit heaven with varieties of ice apple (champaka), mangosteen, nutmeg, mango, coconut and yellow and red varieties of rambootan.

What you see is the loving care of a 73 year old matriarch who takes care of her home with immense respect and care.

She has painstakingly restored her property and recycled the teak wood to keep the property in prim.

Monsoons in Kerala, a laid back time with family (minus TV) and good fun filled time with books, the Meenachil river to swim (beware of the flow and currents) and a separate shed to party.

Lights out at 11pm and kindly respect the cleanliness the elderly houseowner wants to maintain for the benefit of her guests.

Akkara Homestay was a wonderful place for us to base ourselves while we explored the Kottayam district. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the breakfasts are always delicious Kerala-style preparations and the building itself is beautiful, perched majestically on the Meenachil river. Most important to mention is that the staff are excellent! Renju, the manager, and his team are so friendly and went out of their way to help us with all our needs. At one point I lost my wallet in Kottayam and Renju conducted a throrough investigation, calling taxi drivers, auto drivers and restaurants we had been in to help me find it! I could not recommend Akkara more highly - I would happily stay again.

The place is bit inside but very peaceful and nature friendly.it will be a very relaxing stay there.

Wonderful place stays near by backwater. Great for boating also very good arrangments for conducting functions and staying with couples or families. Traditional and ayurvedic doctors very helpful for prescribe treatments and I experienced a very good ayurveda and Thai massage from there.

Amazing place with scenic surroundings. Polite and helpful staff, with a wonderful owner. Will definitely visit again.

Beautiful and serene place to chill and have fun. Tidy rooms and dedicated room services for each room quite often.

Nice ambience which gives us peaceful time and a beautiful water frontage and it's nearly 200 yr old home which is fully maintained like a new home.with good interior works.

Actually i have visited their for a short film shoot and the places feels peace and calm.
You have beautiful view on the frond side of the house and the house is too old around 150 years
The house interior is beautiful. Their is lot of antique materials and the dinning table is remarkable.
You can spend lot of time with your family members here.
