Ideal spot to grab a quick meal along with a side of fish. Access is through a narrow lane, so park elsewhere or take an autorickshaw. The fish (usually kingfish, red snapper, or shark) is pan-fried and slathered in their signature masala. Absolutely delicious! It's not particularly spicy unless you have super-delicate taste buds.

Heard a lot about this place in vlogs. But the whole experience was so not worth it. The food was subpar, the service was subpar and the atmosphere was too. The fish was way too spicy as in hot spicy with not much flavour of the fish or any other spices. The other side dishes were worse, not to mention the prices were a bit too much for both the place and the food.
Wouldn't recommend this place.

There were no small fishes, only big fishes, and they were very expensive, and we could eat them every now and then.

Expensive when compared to ondens Kannur. I went on a Monday for lunch, sharp 12 pm. There were only 2 varieties of fish fry. King fish and shark. I tried the king fish. The masala of the fry was out of thr world. Little on the spicier side. Fresh fish no doubt about it. Meals was as usual decent tasting. Only issue for me was that there was no variety in the seafood sides. Mostly I had too much hopes after being a regular to ondens Kannur.

Amazing ichora fry served with naadan meals. The taste of the masala on the fish is drool worthy! Meals is simple but very fresh. The taste of sambar was outstanding. A simple lunch home and it’s amazing to see people come up in hordes to this place! Must try in Calicut

Expected a lot. They are serving in too minimum quantity. It's ok.some taste is there. But do not expect in such a manner that you heard.adjustable. Rate is too high if you take a fish fry.

The authority of this business is misleading people. They are giving wrong information about other businesses.

It's a good place where you can have a yummy Kerala meals with fish fry. Per head it will cost you almost 200 for a meal and 'preferred' fish fry.

Excellent food with good sea food perperation. I love it. Price was unexpected. It cost 50 for veg meals and around 150 for a piece of fish. But it was tasty.

I had a superb meal with fish fry from Amma Mess House. Meal was just Rs 50. Fish fry had a special gravy with it. Fish fry costs 150 rupees.

Best place to enjoy a delicious local lunch. Mess is located near to Baby memorial hospital Kozhikode. Walkable distance from the hospital and it is on the opposite side. Food is awesome. The star of the lunch is Ayakoora fry (Tuna). Shark fry is also available. But the cost of fry is little costly. Meal with fry will cost ₹210. Almost 150 for fry. But it is worthy. The masala with the fry is superb (spicy one) because u can eat rice with that masala only. Highly recommended.

Hyped. The food was average but fish fry are overpriced I felt.

Kids meal was not charged and it would rate them 3.5 for this gesture.

Was in my good hotel list but cost is very high now after they get famous, they charged me 250 ₹ for a single piece of fish

Best food experience in Calicut, you are going to enjoy the food with out any kind of noice from the city.it's almost another place.

fish fry was awsome especially the extra masala, nd mouth watering.but waiting time is high with queue of seat, traditional normal meal with this overpriced hype, nothing special in meals part its ordinary and just 50₹ part, side dishes are below average.i think 220₹ somthing spend in normal meal way better in other places arround calicut town.

The place is as good as it was 10 years back. Same taste.but could not take the spice of the fish fry masala as my younger days. But a fab heavy lunch nevertheless.

Their main attraction is Fish fries, fish eggs and other sea foods varieties. Even the restaurant is located somewhat remotely from the main road, people find no excuse to take the narrow passage to their location because of the mouth watering tasty nadan sea food delicacies they have.

If you're a sea foods lover plus you like Kerala meals, then this place is a must visit for you in Calicut.

Today 16/9/2019 me and my friend visited. It was a wonderful experience. Fish fry was awesome. Hats off to the staffs, they are so friendly and caring.

Always the small restaurants are the best and the ones I prefer the most. Nothing much has changed over the year, still the same good fish fry.

Had Meals with fish fry. Meals served with 4-5 varieties of dishes in banana leaf.
The fish fry was superb taste.
One exception from other restaurants is that They serve rice water with meals.
Absolutely recommended for meals/fish fry. Definitely i will be back to this restaurant for that fish fry. Car parking is available. Ac is not available. Seating is little bit congested.

One of the best place in town to have authentic local meal for lunch (naadan choor) with special yummy fish fry. Finding location would be little difficult and you should expect rush during peak hours.

Best Fish fry in Kozhikode! Except that, just an ordinary mess. Difficult to reach with a car as located in a narrow bylane. Be ready to wait if you reach at peak lunch times.

Good meal they serve. Fish also they provide with lunch. Price for fish is some what overpriced. Any way it will be cheaper compared to good quality restaurant food.

Lunch is good. I came here after hearing about the quality of fish fry here. It didn't disappoint me and there choices for the fries are also good. Some of them tasted the same to me, like sravu fry and ayakkoora fry. That has something to do with my minimal experience with expensive fish fries i think. Even though it is a bit costly, it is worth it.

It's actually kind of canteen serving Kerala food traditionally on banana leaf. You will usually find queue to get a seat but the wait time isn't high because usually the locals are fast eaters.:)

Meals and side dishes are strictly average. Pomfret fry is average only, not fried much but that extra masala what they are giving is of good taste.

Simply outstanding in two words. Only issue there was big queue of people waiting for their turn right besides your table and during lunch it's very hot and humid.

Good fish. Deep fried with whole lot of masala in a large pan. Meals are above average, different experience. Should try once.

Heard a lot of the mess and its specialty fish fried items before visiting the place. Yes indeed the fish fry was tasty and juicy. It was not like normal oil fried fish, but a kind of tawa fried fish. The masala also had a flavor of its own that added to the tasty factor. The meals served is average. So, is this a must visit place? I would say no. Don't add this to your foodie bucket list but if you are around this place and need to have a meal with fish fry, then you can visit.

Testy food with much comfortable ambience and nice service, the quality of food was superb but the problem was the price the amount of fish fry was not conviencable.

One of the finest hotel for lunch on Kozhikode town. Varieties of fish fry items available. Very tasty. Only issue will will be non availability of parking and heavy rush and limited number of seats.

One of the best rice ever had. Tasty one. Ample parking space not provided.good customer service. Good place to hangout with friends or family. Good ambience. It costs around 140 per head and unlimited rice is provided with curry. Overall a great experience. The fish fry wasy juicy

Good homely food is available here. Its a little hard to find for the first time. They serve biriyani and meals mainly. The food is delicious. The price is cheap compared to other hotels.anyone can buy good food for a reasonable price. I always prefer this mess when my budget is low

This place has been in business for 43 years. A family run business run out the back of thier family home.
No nonsense mess style dining. Be prepared to share your table with strangers. The place is hard to find although the fantastic auto drivers of Calicut will know where it is. (Shout out to these guys - honest, decent and straight forward - they are the best in the c and make travelling in Calicut a breeze.) They have 3 seating areas - one under a tached roof with about 8 tables. The other 2 are under some sort of corrugated roof with fans to keep you cool. Watch your head in the thatched area - there are a couple of low hanging beams. I should know- I walked into one.
Food is served on banana leaves. Food is basically rice (the fat grain kind) with vegetable, a yogurt based vegetable gravy, and fish gravy (coconut sauce - like thai yellow curry), a small bit of pickle, and a pappad. Then it's your choice of one of the fried fish specials of the day. When I went they had mackrell, shark, and king fish. I tried all three and they were excellent! When they serve a fish they scoop some of the oily fried goodness with fish and spices onto your rice (like scrapple) and that is just a little piece of heaven! No limit on the servings of rice or sides. Water is actually konjee water served warm.
A little note about the fried fish: some like fried fish to be crisp and this fish is not. So if you aren't a fan of non-crisp fried fish then this place is not for you. There really are no other non-veg options.
The fish is fried in coconut oil. The flavor is the food is traditional malayali food. It is simply excellent in that regard. It does not get more authentic than this.
