Nature lovers can really enjoy this dam and it's nearby areas. Children's have there own swings there.

Nice place for a family chill out. Even without proper tourism development.
Ones upon a time there is Aurvedic Plant Garden.
Path way and garden is completely distroyed due lack of Forest, Tourism Depts caring.

Whatever.it's beautiful by nature

Its a Wonderful place to spend your day. You can see some animals like elephants, deer.etc.on the way.

A calm and peaceful place. Though the drive is a bit tiring, it's worth it.

Remember you can drive your vehicle in the dam premises. No need to walk unless you love to.

Maintained neatly. Place is quite and nice. Definitely can go and sit for some time. 100/- rs entry for car and per person they charge 20/- Ride through the forest and the roads are nice too.

The reservoir attract tourists and there are coracles ride available at the reservoir. [4] The dam was commissioned in 1996. One uniqueness about this dam is the absence of canal system. The water contained in the reservoir is made available to the Kole fields and paddy fields by means of the river and the existing canal system through a regulator. No artificial canal system was set up for this purpose. [5]

Many different streams reach the Chimmini reservoir. The Chimmini Dam and the reservoir share borders with Mangalam Dam and the Parambikkulam Wildlife Reserve. [6] The Chimmini catchment area is spread over a 10 square kilometre area within an area of 85 square kilometre which is declared as a reserve forest in 1984. [7] Established in 1984, the Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary is situated contiguous with the Peechi-Vazhani Sanctuary and spreads around 85.067 square kilometers. There is Bamboo Rafting, birding trail, butterfly safari, Jungle craft and animal tracking etc.for the tourists.

Even an attractive place Govt, tourism departments, and Dam management not caring well, top of the dam walkways, all the grass grows and can't find the way, etc. Recently i saw some works in progress, hopefully it will change tourists attitudes and more visitors.

This is a awesome place which can make our mind calm and chill.nice seenary.we should take vechical pass apart from visiting pass.it's nice to visit with cycles so we not to pay any vehicle pass.it's very nice place where we can spend lot of time.it's a dence forest. And i also recommend not to visit this place in night because there is a chance of attack from wild animals.there are lot of news we can see in news paper which wild life animals like elephant attacking the vehicles during night in these areas.

On the way to dam itself is super.inside the rubber estate and forest will give some adventure. If we have Luck/bad luck we can see and other animals. Dam have many visitor due to some activities started by dam management like Kottathoni, cycling, garden, etc.nice Vibe at evening

Chimmini is a must visit place in Thrissur, a lot of beautiful places are hidden inside chimmini. An awesome trekking to the forest which leads to a beautiful waterfalls is one of the main event, you can also spot animals and variety of birds. Chimmini Wildlife sanctuary is a national park located along the Western Ghats in the Thrissur District of Kerala state in India. The sanctuary is an important bird area with 192 recorded avian species including the grey-headed bulbul, Indian rufous babbler and white-bellied blue-flycatcher. A recent survey recorded the presence of the lesser fish eagle (Ichthyophaga humilis), which until recently was only known from the foothills of the Himalayas. The sanctuary is an important bird area with 192 recorded avian species. Five Western Ghats endemic bird species occur here, including the grey-headed bulbul (Pycnonotus priocephalus), Indian rufous babbler (Turdoides subrufus) and white-bellied blue-flycatcher (Cyornis pallipes). Other interesting species found here include-Ceylon frogmouth (Batrachostomus moniliger), Indian edible-nest swiftlet (Collocalia unicolor), Malabar trogon (Harpactes fasciatus), Malabar whistling-thrush (Myiophonus horsfieldii) and Loten's sunbird (Nectarinia lotenia) (Islam and Rahmani 2004).

Went for treking through forest. We were a group of 4 along with forest guide Mr. Velayudhan. We were fortunate to spot herd of elephants while treking. Mr.velayudhan helped us to make our treking memorable one by moving forward according to our interest and relaxed pace. Treking was for almost 4 hours. After that we had kotta vanchi ride. Overall trip was awesome. One of the best places in Thrissur for treking through forest. Charge for treking was Rs. 200 per person and for kotta vanchi ride Rs. 400 for group of 4 person's.

Chimmony wild life sanctuary offrrs 3 km of trekking (1: 5 hr walking). They charges Per head 200 and they provide one guide with us. And the forest contains tiger and elephants and varieties of birds. The suggested time to visit is early in the morning, because the chances to see wild animals is higher in the morning.trekking ends at the shore of dam so we also can walk through the dam area. And good place to visit 1.5 hr travelling from thrissur town. Another places to visit nearer to sanctuary is chokkaña and marottichaal.

Chimminy dam is just a few kms away from trichur and it has one of the best entertainment to offer. The scenic beauty around is undescribable. A package tour by the Kerala tourism devp corpn despite the price is really something u will nurture for a life time. Backed by a group of helpers you are taken into the interior of chimminy dam which is about 45mts ride by motor boat. You are placed plumb in the heart of the forest to spend a night in the dense jungle in a place with tents and a moat around to ward off against wild animal attack. Though scary it is an experience and adventure u will remember for ever. In the candle lit environment in the jungle u get the helpers, who also second as night watchmen, to cook you the food of your choice as you get to choose the food and provisionsyou wish to carry (at your own cost) along for dinner n bfast and lunch the next day. It's fun making merry in the midst of the jungle hearing the wild and at times a little scary, sounds of all that you can get to hear in a jungle.

Not a good place waste of time no animals are there I drive near about 300 km to reach there. Nothing is there except dam. Please avoid this place. My opinion.

They are saying its a Wildlife Sanctuary, but I didn't see any wild animal during my last visit,

There is boards on the way mentioning crossing Elephants paths, May be in nights.

Lot of rubber tree plantations on both sides of the drive way

You can see deforestation process on one side, May be because of forest fire.

Also there is small streams on both sides, where we can refresh, and even bath. Also they are children safe.

In the entry, there is fees both for the vehicle and the person.

It's about one half kilometres to ride to reach the dam.

There is a walkway which is not a tarred road on the top of dam.

We can reach resorvoir's bay on the left side which is the area only permitted.

While descending on the left, and there is a bridge by which we can see the water outlets.

That's all, the Chimmini wildlife.

Good for one day outing with family and kids. There are only 1 or 2 local tea shops available near dam area. So better to carry lunch if required.
There are presence of elephant, peacock, monkeys etc. Boating also available in working days. You can pre book for trekking. They will arrange guide.

If you want to spent some time with nature, I would suggest this place. The route to sanctuary is calm and it will make your mind happy.
Since it is a forest area the signals are very weak.
The trekking to the area can be by foot or by vehicle. Almost 2 to 3 hours of trekking by foot.
There are two ways for trekking. One is easy and other is little trekky.
There are room or dormitory availability;
There is a waterfall inside the sanctuary, where if you need can take bath.
The chance of seeing wild animals is very rare.
If you want to visit the sanctuary and need room, better to confirm with office, beforeplanning for the trip.
There is a small tea and snack shop there. Also some forest products are available there.
And there is also a dam.
If love to walk with your loved ones there a long road with less number of vehicles.
Private bus is also available to the dam and sanctuary.
If you are taking parcel food then you can able to spend your daytime fully here.
If you are nature lover am sure that you will love this place once you visit.

Don't expect more than just a small area around the dam.

Chimmini Wildlfe Sanctuary is a must visit for the nature lovers. This is in Thrissur District, kerala. If you are coming from ernakulam direction, Take right from amballur.
You can really enjoy the place. Malayalam plantation rubber estate, hanging bridge across the river, bamboo estates, chimmini dam and many more. To enter chimmini dam area, you will have to take passes. And this ticket counter close at 5 pm. So reach there before that.

Forest is well maintained. Forest is divided into three region plantation, semi forest and evergreen. We had short time trekking through the forest with waterfall.over night stay would be better. Stay is available. They also provide adventures trekking.

If you want to see how splendid our nature and the wildlife is, then you should definitely come and visit this place. You can avail trekking with guide and even stay in the forest. All you have to have is some time to spent.

High entry fees with very less engaging options.good for families for a day out.not for a wild life explorer.

Dense forest.
There is a forest dormetry and guest house available for stay. Also there multiple treking and camping packages. Eventhough it's bit costly, it's worth.

The road to chimmony is lovely. Loved the drive. The wildlife sanctuary was disappointing. The trek to see animals should be booked before hand. No spotting of wildlife other wise. Nice lovely view of the dam and forest behind it. Lovely views. That undertaking forest department. Visit this place specially in public holidays.

It is worth an afternoon. 2-3 hrs. Nice entry to the reservoir area. The walk above the dam is closed. The route is very steep inside the dam area.

A place which changed many of my conventional concepts of a trip. Chimmini days started with the disappointment that mobile phones lose coverage and signals once we enter the reserve forest. But the sights and experience of the woods was worth forgetting all the disappointments. Trekking was made easy at the same time enjoyable by the service of the guides. The stay also was comfortable and one will not forget to mention the service of the staff. One thing I think introducing would be useful is the supply of cold water providing the necessity of the disposal of containers if there as trekking is tiresome.
In total Chimminy is a paradise on the earth.

Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary required more development to become a tourist spot. There is no hotels, toilets and dedicated shops. A small cafeteria where you can get coffee, tea, water bottle, and a few snacks packet. As we got the information from the check-post guides, they have more packages for stay and trekking to see the wild animals which required booking through online or via phone.

Good picnic spot.can go with family.friends.good for riders and all that they can experience a fine ride.its easy to come from amballor junction as the road is good to use

Quite natural place. Near to Chimmini Dam. I don't think there no much animal here. I just saw a mountain squirrel. But you can enjoy the beauty of Dam and it's sorrundings. Should visit here when are deciding to get into Chimmini Dam.
