The shops and the general atmosphere was okayish. The market wasn't crowded when I visited, but will be a trouble on a busy day cos of the crammed nature of the shops & limited walking area.

It's a market in palayam, trivandrum. It's actually a fish market. Not a very pleasant place to go. Since it is mainly a fish market the market is full of smell of fish. Its not that easy standing there.

The Palayam Market was established during 1857, when Sri Uthradom Thirunal was the Maharja of Travancore mainly to supply day to day essential commodities to the Army.
The Arched Gate of the Market was built subsequently and was inaugurated by Sir Robert Bourke, 1st Baron Connemara, Governor of Madras Presidency, when he visited Thiruvananthapuram during 1888. In his honour, the market was then named as "Connemara Market".

Here you can buys all kind of commodities from spices to mobiles phones and accessories at cheap price and you can bargain to get items at even less prices. Fresh fish meat and vegetables can also purchase from here. They have a bus stop and taxi stop near it and have a parking lot but not a big one but you can still park in saphalyam complex

Connemara Market established in 1857, this market is one of the major shopping hubs of the city. It was built during the reign of King Uthradom Thirunal of erstwhile Travancore dynasty to supply day-to-day commodities to the army members. The arched gate which leads to the market was inaugurated by Sir Connemara, Governor of Madras Presidency on his visit to Thiruvananthapuram in 1888 and the market was named ‘Connemara market’ in honour of him.

Used to go there as a young lad with my grandma on Sundays for purchasing meat and some groceries. They have considerably upgraded the place yet It has'nt lost its local marketplace feel.

This has survived, hope it continues to do so. Strange name and dont get surprised on the local pronounciation of the word "Connemara", it is called "Kannihmarah"

Be careful while buying Fish. They will give you rotten fish if not carefully checked. Always expect duplicate (some other kind of fish in place of kingfish (neyymeen).
