Big restaurant with few people. Wonderful view, worth it. As we were leaving they stopped us and said there where missing money for the bill. In the end it was resolved and I suspect that some has lost his job.
reviews doesn't do justice - the place has hardly any choices. They might be good antique shop but not a good restaurant.
We went for late lunch. Took our order, came back after 15mins to say there's no Vegetarian Sadhya, then we switched our order to a Biryani. Again, 15mins later says there's no Biryani either. We proceeded to take only a drink and leave - hungry at 15.45 after waiting for ages.
Really bad service, waiters go through the motion. Not even acknowledging their lack of dish availability, nonchalantly instructing to order something else.
The food, service and ambience inside the restaurant was very nice but the antique shop people at the entrance were very rude to us. Those people were really a mood killer and were shouting at us not to take pictures inside the restaurant and keep on murmuring that this ain't a museum you can't go sightseeing. Teach those people some manners so that no one else would have this experience
Me and my family visited this love restaurant recently and when we go there they welcomed us so gently and politely food was amazing service was 100/10
Ginger House in Cochin is a delightful culinary journey! With its delectable Kerala cuisine and charming setting, it offers an authentic taste of the region and a memorable dining experience for all.
Two meals in the same day brought out a world of difference in the service. Lunch at Ginger Hous was a pleasant experience. The owner Majnu and his team attend to all tables personally. The place has a good friendly vibe. The food is good and portions quite generous. The beers after walking around in the sweltering heat is blissful.
Ginger House in Cochin is a charming restaurant that offers delicious food in a unique and beautiful setting. The service is excellent, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner or a family-friendly meal, Ginger House is a great choice. Overall, it's a fantastic dining experience that you won't want to miss.
This place is mainly for those looking to spend a quiet evening. The main customers are foreign tourists. The music is not loud, the ambience is not bad and some seats overlook the water. That's pretty peaceful. But if u r looking for a lounge like experience with thumping music, disco crowd and the like, choose some other place. I was the latter, so had a beer and left. Didnt try the food. The place serves only wine and beer and the wines are expensive
Location is good. Food is not so good. Dint like any of the items ordered. Too costly for the quantity and quality of food they served. Totally disappointed
Very nice place but after waiting for more than an hour to order food, I ended up leaving to eat at local shop. I do notmind the servers being slow/bad rude as long as the food is decent. But no food, therefore the rating. A touristic place with tourists prices but the service is yet to catch up. I was hungry 2 h ago, now I am hangry. Nice things about his place: - clean - by the water so great views - loads of fans - good quality furniture - the owner serves you dishes but has no idea what are the names of it
Items to improve on: - a sign by the entrance - take a seat or wait to be seated - some clarity would be appreciated - toilet signs - not the most convenient place to find and after asking 4 people, I bearly found it - I really do not need to inform that many people of my directions and intention - very difficult to know who works here and who is eating - everyone is looking the same / dressed casually, no names/ name tags nor presence/representation of the brand ; plus difficult to ask someone to order to as it might be a guest ; - there is a guy here working, looking like a 12 years old - it might be Sunday and they need the help but feels wrong! - Seems more like "one trick pony" - you come ones and that's it.
The art collection looks great though!
Ps. Waiting for 20 minutes to pay the bill and waiting so plenty time to write my review.
Happy I came? Maybe. Will I return? Definitely not! . . . 35 minutes waiting.
If you are looking for authentic and delicious Kerala cuisine, this is the place for you. Amazing food in a fantastic ambience and in a budget. Must visit
Great place to get a meal in Jew Town. The walk past all the cool antiques was fun and the waterside tables make for an atmospheric way to end a day of sightseeing in Fort Cochin. Good cold beer as well.
We wanted to have a good lunch at a good place and that is when we came across this hotel in Jews town. We are on our way to Maleickal resort in cherish beach. Loved the ambience so much and we visited a museum in front of the restaurant for which u need to get tickets (no photos allowed in the museum). Sitting and dining by the river was such a beautiful experience. I loved authentic Kerela dishes. Food takes time and hence we had so much time to take pics and have a look around the property. Must visit restaurant if u are visiting Kochi
Worst food I’ve had in a while. Pathetic taste. Quantity was also bad - biryani was like half biryani. And even the quality of pieces in meat were bad - it was mostly just bones. The only good thing is the location.
Sit by the side of the breezy backwaters. Sip a cup of tea or coffee or booze your night out perfect place for anyone looking for a peaceful spot with a hungry belly.
Wonderful ambience. Right on seafront. Food was surprisingly quite good. Also one of the very few places to serve beer on a hot afternoon. Took away a star for the very slow service and inflated prices
We came here with a group of 12 to enjoy the ambience of Ginger house and its location by the riverside. We had a very satisfying experience. Having booked earlier, on our arrival at the restaurant, we noticed that they had set the table for us with much care and attention to details. The manager and the staff were very courteous and could't do more to help. Food is mostly Indian, but whatever we chose was tasty and freshly prepared. When other guests had left we wanted to dance and they obliged us with the music we liked. We were all on our feet twisting and jiving. On a whole it was a wondetful evening.
We ordered the ginger prawns curry and the beef fry which were both delicious, and we were very grateful to the staff for accommodating our request to make the food less spicy for us. The ambience is beautiful, even/especially during monsoons. The one criticism we have is for the management of the hotel/restaurant, as we witnessed the waiters running back and fortn from the kitchen under the rain on a slippery surface. For a luxury hotel like this, it seems not onlt unacceptable, but also dangerous and concerning that this is the conditions under which you'd make your staff work. Please build a roof so that your staff does not have to work under the rain during monsoons and is not put in danger.
We have been to The Ginger House several times since we moved to Kerala 3 years ago. We especially enjoy the ambiance and the pakora's! This visit we had guests staying with us so we booked to stay in the hotel. It was a great choice! Very comfy rooms, particularly the beds and the most up to date clever toilet! Breakfast in the morning was sumptuous, our guests were very happy with Indian hospitality. Thank you Ginger House, we will be back!
Hello everyone, do not even try to go this place they don't even know how to cook. My personal experience was very horrible, i went there with my wife and ordered lime soda and chilli panner (veg dish) but they have us something else and these don't bother to ask what went wrong
You will be awestruck as you enter. One of the finest locations and beautifully crafted place with the museum. Luckily, it being a off season we got it all to ourself and on special request they prepared a candlelight arrangement as well. The ambience and aura will spellbound you. The staff is so courteous and assistive. But they need to work on the menu and food. It's disappointing.
The + point of the place is only, ONLY the aesthetics. Nothing else. 1 star for this.
FOOD: Food is severely mediocre and extremely overpriced. It offers nothing special. The amount of food being served is so less - tiniest proportions for the price being paid. Everything looks like something you can get at a regular home in kerala. If you are on vacation here, you can get the same, if not better tasting food in a normal hotel for ⅓ the price.
We had to find another cafe since we were hungry despite paying over 600 per head.
SERVICE: It took 1 hour and us asking them a couple of times to even serve water or give us napkins. Serving times are really long, the waiter said it's because they don't make anything before hand. Don't know. The only thing that came faster was the bill.
MUSEUM STAFF: They charge you 20-30 rupees if you want to take pictures around the place. They are kind of not welcoming and are on your tails to charge you for everything. They are rude.
Wayyyyy overpriced. Menu is below average. Small portions. Same local food you get everywhere. It's on the edge of some stinky fish ponds, but the view is nice out. The garden is beautiful. Service is not really there. Could be way better. Include ginger in your menu, friendly service etc.
Visited here along with my family one week back. Ambience is great. The Restaurant is situated near the riverside and you can see small ships and boats sailing nearby. A slight drizzling rain added flavours to the ambience. Spent some quality time with family. Lots of lush green areas, photogenic areas are inside the premises where you can shoot some excellent portraits.
Coming to the negatives - Although the restaurant was only half occupied, it took 15 minutes for us to finally draw the attention of a waiter towards us. That was not much of an issue for us, as we were already occupied in watching the riverside views. But i'ts really annoying and the management must take an initiative for improving the customer service. The waiting time for food and mojitos is too high. Nearly 45 minutes and thats completely ruining the mood. Again we waited for another 10-15 minutes to get the bill.donno why there was such a delay even for a bill.
Food was good but not that great either. A bit expensive too. Infact we were a bit disappointed with the food. ️ The manager of the antique shop at the entrance was very rude and while entering the premise, the first thing she told us is that photography is not allowed. We were actually visiting the restaurant not the antique shop. There was no need for her to talk to us like that. We felt a little odd.
If you want some excellent pics then do visit this place. Dont expect much other than that. Iam giving 3 stars only because of the ambience it offers. Disappointed regarding the food and service. Hope they will look into the issues and improve in near future. Would like to visit here again if they improves.
The ambience and view is really good but the food is really HORRIBLE and overpriced. The grilled fish looked anything but grilled. The combos are extremely mismatched. The grilled chicken was really bland and wasn't tasty at all.
Ambience was pretty good but the food was soo bad. It was pricey, and the food was not at all tasty. We felt disappointed while having the food. We spend our money expecting tastey standard food and the quantity is also low.
Great Experiance. Ambiance and taste of food which they are serving is mind blowing. Prices are little bit high. But they are keeping high quality services to us. Staffs are very friendly and we are getting fast service. We can see Kerala’s culture in their entrance.
May feel bit over priced, but ambiance is truly mind blowing. Dishes are freshly cooked, based on order. Taste is ok. Limited menu only, they dont have large variety in it.
Love this amazing place with seaside view. Sea view hotel with a stunning view of Cochin Port and other localities. They serve Beer but in double the cost, anyway good ambience makes you to there and enjoy the evening with loved ones. Good place flrgroups to hangout for brunch, lunch and dinner. Somany Antique structures are beautifully layed inside and arranged for sales and show pieces.
Best restaurants around fort Kochi - dishes are made fresh and ingredients are super high quality.must try - Fish moly, the view here is just mind blowing
Overpriced food with very less quantity. Only plus is the view from the hotel. Yiu even have to ask for water. Otherwise you wont even get that. The taste was okay.
The ambience is everything. Make it a point to speak with the staff about the history of the place. This is a hotel/restaurant that has a heritage listing, and the history behind the place is fascinating.
The food is alright. The service is adequate. On the whole the ambience is the best part of the experience.
Had a nicely made masala chai in this ginger themed restaurant. Complemented with a great view and decor. Price on the higher side, but a nice retreat from sun.
Me and my family enjoyed a wonderful lunch here right beside the water. Tasty food with wonderful ginger drink. Can highly recommend this restaurant as high quality food and kind staff.
The staff there forget they are just the staff and not the guests! Their chef probably failed cooking class, things taste painfully bland, and the staff probably failed etiquette class, they don't know basic manners. Their behaviour reminds of a fish market than a professional hotel or restaurant. You have to try hard not to laugh when they try to give you attitude.
Good location, super overpriced food with mediocre food quality and ambience.please don't waste your time there.there are many good restaurants in fort cochi
Photography for Indians not allowed. No GST details on bill. Hostess attitude was priceless. Took them 45 minutes to serve the most expensive curry in the county.
Beautiful collection, fantastic view, rustic look. Food is okay. Had grilled kingfish. Bar attached. Visit in non-summer months, enjoy a chilled beer with grilled fish and take in the view. Cash and Card payment accepted. No parking please. Use public transport. Uber is best. Get off at Mattancherry Palace, visit the Synagogue, do some window shopping, buy spices and dry fruits and when tired go to Ginger House at lunch time. Get there a little early or expect some waiting.
Strictly not for zomoto gold members. 2 mains dishes not applicable. They LL treat you differently. Mainly for foreigners. So had very bad experience. Food is above average but worth for 750 per dish.
They Only have a good location, food taste is just very blank n service is very very slow, they offered us water after asking for 3 -4 times n food dishes are highly priced as compared to their taste n quantity. N they prefer serving the firangs first n shake their tail in front of them. So basically they only want foreigners to come to their restaurant because their food is blank in taste which is ok with the foreigners n they can pay you any amount that is charged.unfortunetly we choosed the wrong restaurant that day
Stumbled upon this place in Jew Town, in the middle of the tourist street. Great image of a rice plate, with banana leaf etc drew me in for lunch. The ambience is really good, riverfront and nicely laid out. Neat and clean area.
Food, however, was well below par. First time I've ever been served cold sambhar and dal in a thali (all items were cold, except the rice - which was soft and fluffy local rice, just perfect). According to the owner, the thali is made in the morning and they don't like to microwave items! Very disappointing, this was my first rice plate experience on this trip.
They missed out on appams for another order on our table, which took 10 mins to come. 4 fresh lime sodas were allocated 1 500ml soda between them, instead of 4. They did reduce the bill by Rs. 90/- when brought to their notice.
Overall quite a chaotic meal, instead of enjoying a nice (slightly pricey) lunch by the water, we found ourselves chasing waiters and flowing up orders.
Perhaps we caught them on an off day, we visited over lunch on a Sunday. Doesn't excuse poor food quality, but I can understand why service was patchy.
