Grand Hotel

This hotel really sucks. Very untidy and the staffs are really rude. Not a friendly or family hotel. Staff don’t respect the customer. If u need a peaceful and friendly stay never consider this hotel. This hotel not worth for a single star.

One of the top places for having kerala meals (fish curry or veg). Courteous staff and quick service. Prepare yourselves to be in food coma after having meals there.

Karimeen (pearl spot) pollichathu is a must if you have fish. Drinks are served. Chammanthi (kerala chutney) are amazing. There are other side dishes also available. Be prepared for a wait time. Its packed despite having lots of seats.

It is always a joy to be back to the Grand Hotel for the food. Rather, the Grand Hotel beckons one back with the memories of it. Standing grandly at MG Road since 1965, Grand Hotel caters to the taste buds of every food lover and to the needs of every guest. Their speciality is their Karimeen preparations—this time I ordered the Karimeen pollichathu & the Karimeen fry for a comparative study) All their food items have a homely touch to it. The masalas are just right. Not more, not less. Even though the place is always bustling with customers, the waiters and the restaurant manager makes sure that their guests are served right. And, to find a restaurant in MG Road with exclusive and large parking space like here is true joy.

This review relates to the restaurant.
The food is fabulous, good quality and served in generous quantities. Our host ordered several Keralite specials including fried fish, fish curry, prawn molee, malabar coconut chicken curry, biryani, Kerela beef chilly and some vegetable dishes including kariella (bitter gourd). The meals are spicy but a wash down with lassi helps settle the tummy.

The worst food experience i had coz the price of one chicken biryani was approximately Rs. 500. It had no masala flavour at all.no salt no spices just rice, egg and plain cooked chicken and some fried onions on top. For this we had to wait one-and- half hours.was very hungry but very very sad to experience such a kind from a crowded and famous restaurant like this

Grand is only in the name. Quality of food is really bad. No, I am not even considering the prices they are charging. Chinese should be strictly avoided. Starters- there's hardly any and most are better if you avoid them. Among the orders we made, Kerala Parotta was only worth tasting. Rest all were stale.

Pros- you can have liquor in their restaurant.
Cons- food served is sub standard. Avoid the food unless you are at a gun point

Grand Hotel doesn’t meet the expectations like it had before.

Had gone to the hotel for Lunch. Had Fish curry meals. Had special Karimeen Polichathu, Prawns and Squid Ularthiyathu. All were not upto the expectations and was very expensive. It was not at all worth it. You need a good lunch? Have meals from Paragon Lulu Mall, Kochi. It’s so much more tastier and not as expensive as compared to Grand Hotel.

Overall stay is alright. Breakfast is very mediocre unlike what they advertise. Fish curry meals and biriyani are no good now. Grand is losing their old charm.

Also, What kind of hotel charges for drinking water?

This is not a review about the stay in at grand Hotel. Once in a while lunch at grand was usual thing for family. After covid, this was the first time we went there. There was a waiting time and our family could not sit together due to the lunch. This was not Unexpected. However, the food was disappointing to say the least. We ordered rice meals, biriyani and American Chopsuey. I hope they renew their quality of good take the feedback

Grand has always been a go to place for my family as well as friends meetups. But I am afraid the food quality has dropped shockingly low. When you look at the prices and what's on the plate, you can't just help the feeling that isn't this a rip off?

Good rooms! Nice location and good staff. They provided early check-in based on availability. Washrooms are neat however needs some renovation. Breakfast spread was decent won't say the best. Overall good place to stay. Recommended for couples and family

I didn't stay at the hotel, just dined at the restaurant with family and friends. As an NRI, I have been visiting this place everytime I visited Kochi, my hometown. Well, this last visit would be my last since it has literally left a bad taste in my mouth. Although service was fast, the food was absolutely horrible and regret to say all of us felt the same. As a suggestion, the hotel management should fire the chef if there is one.

A neat and classy place managed by an arrogant and rude manager Mr. Johnson. Their food quality is good. The restaurant staff are very polite. The only negative factor is that the manager has no class. I had a very bad experience while dining at their restaurant with my wife and children. He humiliated us, he was acting like a cheap loser. I kept silent without responding because my wife and children were with me and I didn't want to make a scene. Finally while we were exiting the restaurant another manager Mr. Raghu and other staff apologised for the misconduct of the other guy.

Good location, good food, good ambience, a bit expensive and crowded.

Located in Mg road nearby Marine drive (Kochi).
If your a solo traveller (like i was in this visit), one could use metro, as the metro station in at a walkable distance which is easy to use and also avoids traffic.
This place is good for its food and the ambience looked classy.

Such a waste restaurant. Very bad behaviour of employees, worst food. This is the worst restaurant i have ever visited in my life.

A hotel with good facilities. Started in 1936. Maintains the quality for all these years. Dishes from Grand is popular for its delicacy.

Seriously the worst ever breakfast experience i had in my entire life. The pineapple juice they served were made from rotten pineapple. I would not refer this anymore to my friends and family.

Breakfast is pathetic. Only rock hard idly and bread. Cost saving due to Covid. Hotel is on the way down! Cut down my stay after 1 day.

One of the earliest and famous hotels of Ernakulam. Pretty good service and well kept. Quality of food is generally good, but has felt inconsistently few times.

Grand hotel has always been my favorite and even covid cab change it. From the biriyani to the simple meal that they serve is pretty delicious. They also abide by all the covid protocols and ensures the safety of the customers. If your doing your shopping in MG road then its all better to have your meal at grand hotel. And it's a must try

Grand was my fav. Yesterday's experience was not upto the usual expectation. Prawn biriyani was just prawn masala covered with biriyani rice.porottaand tandoori was fine.pasta too was fine but none had the wow factor.maybe it's all bcos of this pandemic hope ll be fine in the future.

I was a regular visitor. But let me make it very clear, if you dont change you staff, you will go to DOGS. YOUR RESTURANT SATAFF ARE ONLY GREEDY PIGS. Sorry, I have decided not to visit unless get a favourably, decent reply. Dear owners, the TIME HAS CHANGED, WE HAVE lot of options today in cochin. So Please come out of your shell and react. One of the best options in Kochi!

One of my go to places whenever I am in Ernakulam town. I have tried Kerala, North Indian and Continental cuisines from the resturant and everything tasted good. Biryani is one of the the specialities and is a must try. Prices are on the higher side, but it's worth. Also the covid protocols they follow is one of the best I have seen so far.

The Alleppey fish curry and Ammachi's chilly fish is a must have dish from Grand. I state this with the conviction of having regularly ordered this dish for the last many.many years. The hotel is also one of the oldest in the city.and during the pre-covid days.getting a seat.without prior booking
. In the restaurant.always preceded a near twenty minute wait! Highly recommended.

A heritage legacy of good food. Travelled all the way from Bengaluru to take my in-laws for a meal at the Grand. A must place. ️

Five star prices for a three star ambience and average food, tastewise. The servers are decent but they WILL make you wait. I've been here a number of times (since boomers and NRIs seem to have some kind of nostalgia for this place) and the experience has always been the same.

So when you get that hefty bill after an unsatisfactory meal at grand, do remember, you are actually paying for the decent parking at MG Road!

Poor food standard. Uncooked parathas.
Done have sense to bring food in rounds. Parathas were cold and 6parathas were brought in one go.

Water was not served in the table till the time we asked for that bill and reminded them for the water. Curd was sour.
Too much expensive for tasteless cold food. On top of that service is below average.

I am a regular customer in Grand hotel since many years. But today i was so disappointed with their service. We were staying there for last two days and today when were about to leave, i thought of having a lunch with my brother and dad. After we finished the lunch, they served pudding for my dad who ordered fish curry meals. We know the taste of the pudding and asked the staff to serve us also the pudding. When the bill came we were so surprised to see that the pudding have been charged separately. The staff didn't even give a small consideration for their customers request to make the pudding a complimentary dish as part of the biriyani we have ordered. Its not about the cost i have paid for the pudding, but it is about the poor service of the new staffs they have hired. This the last time and WON'T VISIT GRAND HOTEL AGAIN

Nice place which is easy to locate and find a parking space.
Major issue I had was bed bug infestation which made my stay a disaster.
Had complementary breakfast which was so good with great variety of options.

I visited this restaurant few times food is not great just average. Few weeks back I visited and I got Rasam which is cold and some other curries where cold too. I ask them why it is cold response was they are hot only when they are cooked. I never had any curry that cold from a hotel.

One of the start rated & oldest restaurant with lodging facilities in Kochi. Located in MG Road they serve authentic Kerala cusine with great authenticity in seafood. Expensive menu, attached bar, ample parking space.pls do visit if u travel Kochi

Squid roast is highly recommended

Fish molly and Karemeen pollychethe. Tasty, but not worth the exorbitant price charged for the Karemeen pollychethe (Rs 600) for a medium sized Karemeen.

Traditionally a good place for family. Staff is friendly and many are long term folks who remember you. My preference is for Kerala items such as Paratha, Biriyani, etc. All top notch quality.

A high class restaurant serving authentic Kerala cussine. The place is always crowded with frequent visitors as the quality of food is consistently good. The best chef for traditional Kerala dishes the taste of that will stay in your taste buds for ever.

Service can be slow if u go during rush hour. But nothing beats the quality and taste of food here. Prices are quite reasonable considering the quality.

We had lunch from here today. Definitely one of the best restaurant in Cochin. Price is on the higher side. But that is reasonable considering the quality and service they offer. Average cost per person is 400 and above. Fish curry meals and appam is a must try.
