Suitable for a day visit with family or friends. Just to roam around and see the historical beauty. This palace was the main location for the Malayalam movie Manichithrathazhu. So Mallus can relate the place with different scenes of this famous film during their visit. A deer park is also located nearby. A canteen near deer park offers tea, coffee juices, snacks and icecream.

Vast area of greenery with swings here and there and the remnants of the palace can be seen outside. A great place to go with kids although we can see some couples in love among the trees and corners of the plot which may not be seen as good by the people of Kerala. The inside opens at 9 and closes at 1 for break then reopens at 2, so make sure you adjust your timings.
You can walk through the history and enjoy the area.

One of the most beautiful place in Kochi. The palace consisting of many amenities which include a deer park, a cultural museum and a well-maintained park, this spot attracts a lot of locals and tourists who visit the area. The garden on the grounds is also the home to a large number of plants which include rare plants with medicinal properties. In total, this location reflects the aura of the alluring region by providing a very clear insight into its cultural and historical background. Exhibiting a plethora of artifacts like paintings, weapons, jewelry, sculptures, coins and furniture, the museum reflects the exuberance of the royalty which resided in the Palace and ruled over the region.

I travelled to the palace based on the information given in this site, regarding the working hours, to find the museum temporarily closed due to Covid 19 regulations. It is understood that unless state government issues fresh order allowing entry of visitors to museums, it will remain closed. The site needs to update such informations otherwise tourists from distant places can get fooled.

Located about 10 kms from Kochi, the Hill Palace Museum was the official residence of the Kochi rulers in 17th century. Today it is famous as a full-fledged ethno-archaeological museum and as Kerala's first ever heritage museum. The palace complex comprises 49 buildings built in the traditional Kerala style of architecture and is surrounded by 52 acres of terraced land. The Hill Palace Museum also has a gallery housing contemporary art.

Hill Palace was built in 1865 by the Maharaja Of Cochin and is now the largest archaeological museum in Kerala. [3]

The official capital of Kingdom of Kochi was located previously in Thrissur and the royal office of Maharaja as well as the court was all located in the city. However, as per ritualistic customs, the seat of Queen of Kochi (Penvazhithampuran) was seen as Royal capital as Kochi royal family had matrilineal traditions and the queen was regarded as sovereign of the state under whose authority the King ruled. Since 1755, the Queen and her retinue lived in Tripunithura, thereby making the city as official capital. Also the Prince Rama Varma was raised in Tripunithura, thereby preferred to live in the city even after coronation as King, rather moving to Thrissur. Thus for his benefit, a royal office was constructed in 1865. Initially it started off as royal office, court building and offices of royal secretaries and nobles of the court, soon more and more structures were added to main structure to various purposes. Soon, an imperial residence building was also constructed for the residence of the King and his immediate family though other members of Cochin Royal family had their own allocated bungalows and official residences.

The palace was handed over to the Government of Kerala by the Cochin Royal Family and in 1980, the palace was taken over by the Department of Archaeology and later converted into a museum. It was opened to the public in 1986. The museum and its campus is one among the popular shooting sites for the Malayalam film industry. The Horse cart gallery and Weapons gallery houses a lot of historical artifacts.

The museum gardens are also some of the last green refuge of the town. A checklist of fauna found within the gardens, prepared by Sandeep Varma and Gokul Vinayan, has been published under the title 'The Fauna of Hill Palace

This was actually an old palace of Royal family of cochin which is later converted into a museum which is managed by Archeological department of Kerala. Hill palace museum is located in Thripunithara municipality in Cochin. A calm and quiet place where you can spend 2- 3 hours on a weekend in the stunning background of heritage palace and garden. Additionally to amuse the kids along with you, a beautiful and large Deer Park situated in the same compound is adequate.

Nothing much to see here (unless you love reading history).
The palace is well maintained but the guides inside are just too lazy to explain tourists.

Sad to see how a historic monument has been poorly maintained. The newly painted building reminds of some old dull government guest houses. It needs people with vision to make it look like a historic place.

U need to climb 85+ steps to see palace. The old n new palace exist together. It gives us a glimpse of how peaceful life it had been then. There is a serene pond downstairs behind palace. The last Maharaja till 1964 handed over the palace to state gov't. The ornaments used by royal family r at display here. One can enjoy swings tied to every big tree present there.

Palace of Kochi Dynasty. Museum gives you an insigt to the kochi dynasty and also on medieval kerala. It's a good place to spend some time with family. Do not forget to visit Deer Park behind the palace. Palace museum close for lunch at 12.30 and reopens by 2 only. If you reached there after 12.30 spend time to explore the fauna and flora around the palace. Footwares are not allowed inside the museum. You have to keep footweares and bags nearby counter. Children's park inside the compound is also a good place for children. Good parking area also there.

Palace was nice. No guided tour. Some exhibit items seemed to be missing. The grounds could have been kept up better. Suggestion would be to have more dust bins outside as there were none which led to plastic bottles being discarded everywhere. The place has some wonderful history. I would have liked to see it better maintained than it is. Places around palace seemed a bit overgrown also. All three other posts are correct, 2 Rps/ shoes and 10Rps locker. Photography prohibited (no mobile phones) almost all carry baggage has to be stored. I would have loved to see this palace closer to its heyday as it must have been exquisitely beautiful.
Staff, the didn't seem overly rude but they weren't exactly pleasant either.
