Kerala Folklore Akademi

The place is full of cultural values preserved for several decades. Many of it were bringing my nostalgia as it was practiced until couple of decades and suddenly disappeared in recent times.
Worth visiting the place and you get very accommodating staff members explaining it all

Everything you always wanted to know about Kerala Theyyams is here! Wondetful collection. Not just these, but exhibits related to Folklore of other states too. The Dokra metal figurines are awesome. All sign-boards are very helpful. The Museum also honours the scholars who have researched and written about Kerala folk culture by exhibiting their photos. The museum is in one wing of the Chirakkal palace.

The Theyyam art form, various adornments thereof, history and all the kolams in brilliant life like stature is presented aesthetically and chastely. Highly recommended.

Situated near chirakkal chira, the academi museum is having different theyyam forms, old household vessels etc.

Folk Lore academy located in chirakkal Kannur.a large man made pond is in front of academy. Photo graphy allowed. Lot of information regarding local folks especially Theyyam is there. Entry fees required.

Its the best place to know about kerala folks and art forms. Excellent sculptures of Theyyam are there. Those who wish to study more about theyyam, must visit here once atleast. Moreover the place us also very beautiful. We can see the largest man made pond in Asia (Chirakkal Chira) infront of the academy. Academy buildings are build by the famous Chirakkal Kovilakam family.

Kannur is the headquarters of folklore. The academy has a variety of ancient literary, art and folkloric remains. Situated in the eastern shore of great ChirKkal Chira, the building is one of the remains of old local dynasty the Chirakkal rulers. A walk through the academy will give a visitor, a brief picture of ancient folklore
