Its a family run museum looting foreigners. I saw them sell a wooden elephant for 1lakh rupees. There are a lot of artifacts from the history well preserved. Entry fees is fine but charging money for mobile camera is too ridiculous.

It’s a must in order to experience local culture. You can observe, not only Kerala elements, but also from other regions of Southern India. Please, don’t compare it with other museums that are state-supported.

Our visit to the Kerala Folklore Museum was an absolute delight for our entire family. From the moment we stepped inside, we were transported into a world of rich heritage and vibrant traditions. This museum truly deserves a 5-star rating!

As a family, we appreciate cultural experiences that help us connect with the history and traditions of a place, and this museum exceeded our expectations. The extensive collection of artifacts, artworks, and exhibits showcased the essence of Kerala's diverse culture beautifully. It was a perfect educational opportunity for our children, who were fascinated by the captivating stories behind each exhibit.

The attention to detail in recreating traditional Kerala homes, complete with their intricate architecture and furnishings, left us in awe. Walking through these beautifully preserved spaces, we felt like we had traveled back in time. The life-sized statues and dioramas depicting various aspects of Kerala life were incredibly lifelike and added to the immersive experience.

The live cultural performances were a highlight of our visit. Watching traditional dance forms like Kathakali and Mohiniyattam, and listening to the melodious strains of classical music, made us appreciate the artistic heritage of Kerala even more. It was heartwarming to see the dedication and passion of the performers.

The staff at the museum were friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to share insights into the exhibits. They made our visit even more enjoyable by answering our questions and providing valuable context to the displays.

The museum's serene surroundings and well-maintained gardens offered a pleasant retreat after exploring the rich cultural treasures inside. We took some time to relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere, which was a perfect way to conclude our visit.

In summary, the Kerala Folklore Museum is a must-visit for anyone looking to delve into the cultural heritage of Kerala. It's an educational and enriching experience for the whole family. We left with a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of Kerala's traditions, and we will cherish the memories we made here. Five stars all the way!

3 story classic building, loaded with historical art pieces. Interesting, exciting, but also cramped. English written explanations, friendly staff.

What you think of the quality of the art here is subjective. However, they have unexpected high prices here for visit and purchase.

I'm sorry I didn't like it. It's just a collection and not worth asking 100 INR for entry and 100 INR for even mobile phone. You should get it written it's a private property. The lack of knowledge of Kerala history or folklore history is very protruding in the artifacts.

The museum is a mere representation of various Hindu God's in particular with occasional occurrence of Kerala saari clad plaster of Paris dolls. It could have met my expectations if it was declared as a private property. I went with huge expectation assuming this will be a shore of heritages across Kerala.
The guides could have done a better job of assisting ppl too.

Why I'm saying is, these kind of museums give a wrong picture of Kerala to other states. It's hard to understand you stated Kerala folklore and it didn't even talk any folklore. You should have visited binnale 2012.
The surprising fact is the place is having a kindi in the front place and anyone in Kerala knows the historical prominence of why a kindi is kept outside a house. We are talking history here - not what all you can use that for. Otherwise you can mention how it was used in the movie manichithrathaazhu.

Disproportionate anatomy paintings from Ravi Varma school is another add.

I will never recommend buying 100 INR for camera.

Kerala Folklore Theatre & Museum is situated near Thevara, Ernakulam district, Kerala. This museum is one of the Kerala's first private museums which was opened in 2009.  It is a cultural hub to promote and preserve the culture and heritage of South India. Museum promoted by Mrs. & Mr. George Thaliath (Mr. George Thaliath passed away on 8 November 2018 at the age of 57)  to preserve, the culture, heritage and folk art education. They created this Temple of art, from 25 ancient structures of heritage, compiling in to a single structure of ancient architecture, with the help of 62 woodworkers. It took about seven and a half years to complete the  work. It varies from traditional architecture to ancient sculptures, woodwork, ancient terracotta, Indian bronzes, stone work, old paintings, old jewelry, old utensils, old agricultural equipments, old coins and all other ethnic artifacts. Museum aims to provide art education to the young generation. It also providesas opportunity to the tourist around the globe to experience the unseen Kerala.

The visiting hours are from 9 am to 6 pm.
The entry fee is Rs. 100 per head.
One has to pay Rs. 100 for camera including mobile. If you visit as a group you need to pay only Rs. 100 for the entire group members for using cameras.

I visited this museum on 25th November 2018. The articles are arranged in three floors in a building. You need atleast four hours if you want to cover the entire area. There is a small cafe inside the museum.
