I am short of words to explain how lovely this place is. Starting with location, it is at the backside of periyar so sometimes you may spot a deer or some animal. We were lucky to spot a stag twice. Most eateries are also on walking distance. Shops are also nearby, so you can walk. You open your doors to lush greenery. It's beautiful. Ambience is simple, comfortable yet elegant. There's a round table outdoors and ample chairs so you can relax and chit chat watching nature. The hosts are extremely warm and always smiling. They're soft spoken and have good knowledge about nearby places. They were always helpful to us. Their hospitality won my heart. They're friendly yet respect your privacy and let you have your time. However, they are always available when you need them. Mr. Shibu is fluent in English, Malayalam and speaks Hindi too, so that's a plus point, you'll have easy communication and interpretation of your needs. The rooms are spacious and clean. There is nothing I can think of that is needed more. Thank you so much, i felt like i was leaving my home when I left kerala house back for home.

Absolute value for money, from the backyard you get to see animals during the sunset.
During summer, you get to see Bisons coming just near to the wall of the property.

Great homestay at thekkady near periyar tiger reserve. Spacious and clean rooms and that too very near the tiger reserve area. We there are rooms with balcony facing the forest where we can spot sambar deers, indian gaur, wild pigs etc. The host shibu chettan is so helpful and provide great hospitality. I can easily recommend this property to anyone.
Also easily accessible to periyar tiger reserve entry and boat landing parking etc.

I visited in Nov 2022. Rooms are very spacious, well maintained, clean and offer great view of periyar national part, they also have nice garden and sitting arrangement to enjoy your morning cup of tea. This is at very fair price. Owner Mr. Shibu and his wife are very polite and well spoken people. Room bed is big can easily accomdate three people. Bathroom is clean and spacious. It's very near to periyar national park and easly accessible. Enjoyed stay at this place.

We went back to Kerala House Homestay for the 2nd time. We were very impressed with the cleaners, hospitality and the great view of Kerala House Homestay. From the balcony of our room, we saw a lot of wild animals.

Also, the host booked some tour packages for us, with great rates! He also recommended us some nice local shops and restaurants.

The location is superb too, Periyar Tiger Reserve is only 5 minutes walk away, Kumily town centre is only about 10 minutes walk.

Highly recommend Kerala House Homestay.

Safe home stay. Get the balcony room in third floor which has a nice view. No food, but surrounded by a set of good restaurants at walkable distance. Periyar Tiger reserve office is also nearby. Have a cultural centre also nearby to watch Kathakali Or Kalarippayattu.

Kerala House is special. And if you are going, try to book a room that has the jungle view. It's stunning. The host is also very nice, courteous and the quality of the room is quite decent as well. You can enjoy the beauty of the nature from the balcony and during the monsoon period, the visuals are stunning.

Spacious rooms with affordable prices. The hospitality provided by Shibu sir and his wife were awesome. He also helped us in planning the trip and arranged transports whenever needed. Happily stayed. Worth the deal.

In one word if I had to tell you why my stay here was wonderful, that would be the house owner "Shibu". He is helpful beyond imagination. He does treat you not like someone who has come here to stay but as a guest of honour. The room was beautiful, clean and hygienic and the view of the wildlife in the forest from the balcony was serene (we spotted deers, giant black squirrels and Indian gaur from the room balcony) but nothing comes close to the feeling of hospitality that you get from him. Always has a smile on his face, never said no to any request we made, may that be of going out and getting food for us because we were tired or dropping us to places because one of the bikes had malfunctioned. He helped us on every step of the way and made sure that we had a wonderful stay. Have stayed in quite a few homestays but the way Shibu treated us is something I have never experienced in my life.

Very nice, clean and spacious rooms. Washrooms are very clean, location very close to all atttactions. Affordable also. The host Mr. Shibu is very professional and caring person. I really recommend this place.

If you are looking for a budget homestay with utmost hospitality, peaceful environment, neat and clean rooms to stay, then, this is it!

It is a homestay run by Mr and Mrs Shibu who takes care of their guest just like family.
It is located on the main road (even though the front is not much appealing u will not feel disapointed once u enter), however the backside of the property i.e the view from your balcony has the forest view.

We wanted to go for a gavi trip from there. So next morning, he had arranged a jeep from our homestay @5.30 am.
(So we had done checkout at @5.30 itself since we were planning to reach back by evening and return home the same day)

So we started our journey to Gavi, wherein the jeep driver Shahulikka was extremely welcoming and helpful.

He took care of all the procedures and ticket entries that were needed to enter the gavi tourism center.
He was really very patient and took keen interest in showing us animals throughout our journey.
We were lucky enough to see elephant just near our jeep

We reached gavi @8.00 am and had our breakfast and continued with various activities like trekking, boating, waterfall, museum visit, factory visit.
After having breakfast each family/ group is assigned with a guide (who actually lives inside gavi). This guide will take you to trekking, boating and all the above mentioned activities.
Our guide was kalai kumar and he was wonderful.
We had done all these activities by 1 pm.
You can stay till evening if u wish.

We left gavi tourism center @1.30 after lunch and we reached Kerala house homestay @3pm.
Mr shibu again gave us another room for freshening up and left thekkady @3.15pm.

Jeep ride costs around 2500 or 2300
Gavi tourism center in which u do the above mentioned activities including breakfast and lunch costs 1650 per person.

I must stay that the most exciting part of our journey was the morning jeep safari to gavi especially accompanied by Shahulikka

Ps: I have given a detailed review so that it could help others who want to go on a gavi trip but do not have a proper clarity. Because we had the same problem.

A Fabulous place to stay and relax with forest view. Rooms are large and very well maintained. Lots of open spaces to sit and relax. Had an amazing stay Mr. Shibu is seriously a Gentlemen i personally felt completely like my brother we were suppose to stay for 2days but we extended addition day it was completely like our home. He help to get Tickets for local programs & he helped to our visits in local place such as Elephant Place, Boat Safari, Evening event programs, Magic shows etc. We highly recommend this to all. We found Byson also near to our room balcony. Thank you for making us very comfort Mr. Shibu.

The beautiful part of this stay was the jungle view from the balcony since the property is adjacent to Periyar wild reserve, we sooted Wild Boar, Baisen, Giant Squirrel and many different rye of Exotic Birds.offcourse some money's and Mongoose.secondly the rooms are big and excellent location. Thank you Mr. Shibu for hosting us. You were kind and helped us better plan our site seeing. Especially the beautiful art of Kathakali you arranged was unmatchable with any love performance so far. I would recommend family and couples for a safe and clean stay!

Our first experience in a homestay, turned out it to be better than most 4 star hotels.our family were there during Christmas 2020 weekend.there are 2 properties, with the newer being at the back with the Thekkady tiger reserve as the border wall. We got to see beautiful view, with wild boar, mongoose, lion tailed monkeys, deer, kingfisher etc right at the property wall.recommend zoom camera, high beam led torchlight for checking animals at night.exceptionally clean rooms with good mattress, clean bathrooms with continuos hot water, gas geyser and solar, tv.the host Shibu and family live in front property which also has few rooms.there is no room service staff or restaurant as such as they both manage this however they were quite helpful.they do provide tea, drinking water, kettle, moisquito repellant but there were none, some stuff on request but this should be expected as it's a homestay and price.only gripe is lack of parking however it was easy to park on the main road.there were no power failures during our stay.good at conversations and quite kind. Helped us with few of local trips as well in arranging vehicle etc with no fuss.all those who visit pls seggregate your waste into plastic, paper to follow the local law and keep property neat. Also keep the waste inside as monkeys tend to rummage and make a mess.they will clear once informed.

I'm in love with this homestay, i kinda like a place we need when u need to enjoy the sound of night and beauty of the wild.

What a great place to stay for my first time in Kerala. Shibu and his family were so kind and welcoming, making delicious food and ensuring we saw all the sights the best way possible. They are in the perfect location close to lots of local authentic souvenir shopping and great restaurants. They are backed on to Periyar National Park so we could watch the wild animals from our balcony and would watch each day as a few different types of monkeys as they used the building as their playground. The rooms were big and very clean. Everything you need including evening traditional shows, boat rides, and hikes through the park were all within walking distance. I will definitely stay there again!

Convenient and relaxing location right beside the nature reserve where you could see many animals. The hosts are such kind and lovely people who were so helpful and responsive to any requests. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and sizeable. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are so spacious and clean and the view from our balcony was so beautiful. We spotted many birds and other wildlife here. Shibu and his wife were very kind and thoughtful and made great recommendations for things to see and do. The location is perfect to explore the area and for Periyar national park. It was hard to leave here! Definately recommend.

Great location right on the edge of the park. Nice spacious and clean rooms. Great hot water shower. Hosts were helpful communicating with our tiger trek and kept our bags safe while we explored the national park.

Nice view of Periyar tiger reserve. Even saw some wild deers and bison through the balcony. Service could be more better.

This is my first time in homestay.

Finding this place is easy, the staff and property owners are good​ and helpful​. Rooms are very spacious even for 3. You can feel like you are at home. ​We liked to have coffee in the morning when we requested though its early morning and the care taker went extra mile to go all the way to town to purchase milk and prepared coffee for us.

The rooms are not easy accessible for elders you have to go down and then climb to first floor, but they feel very comfortable in home stay than hotel. We had longer duration power cut late in the night. No 24 hours hot water but if you ask they provide you enough hot water​ and they switch on the common geyser early in the morning. Everything you have to ask either go to their residence or through mobile which is little uncomfortable but thats how homestay is I think.

They kept couple of towels, one small size soap per room though the room booked for 3 adults, but I guess they will give if you ask.

Televisions are very old CRT TV its not working properly and no subscription for sports channel. Its giving weird noise and nothing is audible in the TV I tried, I never tried in other rooms, one way its good because its leisure trip its good to avoid TVs.

My make my trip experience, this property has only 4 rooms as far as I know and thats the availability when I start booking this property. I tried to block all 4 but by that time one already sold out. So through makemytrip i booked for 9 in 3 rooms two rooms for 6 adults and one for 2 adult and 1 kid. The price changed accordingly​​​ but ​the extra bed charge is separate. When i checked with customer support then why is that additional charge for additional person, he replied its to allow you inside the property. If you want bed for additional person you have to pay separately. Really I dont understand what is the additional charge is for when you add additional person.

Overall the stay is good.
