Monday is a holiday.
Nice, calm and mind relaxing place. There's a small museum. I felt so sad by seeing the Palace pond cuz it's not even properly maintained. There are antique pottery and kitchen materials kept unattended and cleaned. Apart from that it's a wonderful place to hang with family.

Krishnapuram palace itself is a site museum as it acclaims an age-old tradition and antiquity. An Archaeological Museum is functioning inside this palace. Antique objects excavated by the Department of Archaeology and the exhibits brought about from the other regions are also housed in this museum. The idols and vessels made of bronze collected from Annamalanatharu temple, Thodupuzha, Idukki district are the auspicious exhibits there. Images made of bronze and wood; potteries excavated from different sites, traditional weighing apparatus, stone sculptures, swords, coins etc.exhibited there are noteworthy. Krishnapuram Palace is a traditional Pathinarukettu with 22 rooms and four Nadumittams, the courtyard at the centre of the traditional houses of Kerala. This two storeyed edifice comprises of the Poomukham, Kovenithalam, Neerazhikettu, Nellara, Madappally (Kitchen), compound wall and the Padippura, the traditional gateway. The Poomukham, Kovenithalam, Neerazhikettu, Nellara, Madappally (Kitchen), are located on the ground floor. The Manthrasala, guest room, and other bedrooms are on the first floor. The drainage system using stone pipes, the wooden works and elegantly designed ceilings of the palace deserve special mention.

A major attraction of this place is that it houses is one of the biggest mural paintings that can be found in all of Kerala. Known as the 'Gajendra Moksha', this mural painting covers an area of around 53 square feet and has a rich historical value attached to it. The double-edged sword Kayamkulam Vaal can also be found here.

It is a small place but if one uses the friendly guide available at the place, even the 30 minutes one spends there is useful for people interested in history. The attraction is the Gajendra Moksha painting but equally, the style of construction, the techniques used and lifestyle of the king is engaging to hear. And they have also collected a few artifacts from other places which the guide will explain well. Me and my family enjoyed their hour spent there.

Among the many Kerala-style paintings seen in the palace, a distinctly placed mural painting is titled "Gajendra Moksham" of 154 square feet (14.3 m2) size, which is said to be the largest such find in Kerala. It is placed on the western end of the ground floor of the palace.

The double edged Kayamkulam Vaal (sword) is also on display here. The palace houses, in its courtyard, one of the four statues of Buddha found in Alappuzha District. The Krishnapuram Palace named after the Krishnaswamy Temple at Krishnapuram, a serene village, is situated about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) south of Kayamkulam town. It is situated on the top of a small hillock encircled by terraced garden with fountains, ponds and lawns. Its location is to the left of the National Highway 47 (India) (NH 47) between Ochira and Kayamkulam in the Alapuzha District. It is 47 kilometres (29 mi) away from Allepey (Alappuzha district) on the way to Kollam.
The Krishnapuram Palace, as one of the finest and rarest examples of a typical Keralite-style architecture, known in the local language as Pathinarukettu, is complete with gabled roofs, narrow corridors and dormer windows. It is a miniature replica of Padmanabhapuram Palace, which was the headquarters of Travancore Rajas.

The palace complex originally encompassed a total land area of 56 acres (23 ha). However, over the years, as the monarchic rule ended, the palace was completely neglected and fell to disuse, and was dilapidated. Many of the buildings surrounding the main palace of the Maharaja got demolished or destroyed and the palace complex got reduced to a mere 2.55 acres (1.03 ha) enclosed within a 10 feet (3.0 m) high compound wall. The main palace, which was run down, was rebuilt to its original state as a three storied monument by the Archaeological Department of Kerala in the 1950s. The rare documents and artefacts which were kept at other locations were brought back, restored and eventually exhibited in the palace that has been converted into a Museum.

Its a must visit place for those who love History. Krishnapuram palace is well maintained by kerala govt. Very friendly staff to guide the visitors. Various antiques from different ers are on excibition. We can explore a "16 kett" traditional kerala palace. Gajendramoksham wall painting is famous attraction. Budha statue in the compound and pond is another eye catching spots.
Very calm and quite place in the Heart of Alapuzha district. Adult 1 Entry fee is 20 (as of 2018) which is very cheap considering the knoweledge and historical values this place can provide us. Although parking space is very less and we need to keep footwears out in the open also makes difficulties for visitors especislly from long distances.
Altogether its a wonderfull experience and suggested for: All age catogery but iff you love History.
