During my recent visit with family, the experience was nothing short of magical. The warmth and friendliness of the staff enhanced the overall ambiance. The food was not only delicious but also a delightful representation of local flavors. My wife and child reveled in the tranquility, and we left feeling rejuvenated in mind, body, and soul.

Staying at Mountain Villa was a Mano highlight of our recent visit to Kerala. Excellent hospitality surpassed only by the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Special shout out to the kitchen staff (Kevin) who made delicious meals throughout our two-day stay, and of course to our lovely host (Sunitha) who checked in on us everyday to make sure everything was perfect.

We loved our stay at the stone cottage and hope to be back to experience the other cottages!

Unique experience of staying with nature. We enjoyed Authentic Kerala style food. Best part is very few rooms make the everything personalized. Almost zero carbon emissions in the resort. Most of the vegetables used are from their own garden.

It's a bit overpriced. Resort experience is average. No activity or pool available. Not a luxury or cozy room as per the price paid. No mobile network available but 24x 7 wifi available. View from resort is good and a stay near nature is the theme. Evening campfire and barbeque was good but missed a good music system. The place is not child friendly, ideal for couples to spend time together. Staff was friendly and very co operative. Food was good and again a bit overpriced. For 2 persons average food will cost around Rs 600 to 800 additional to room rent. We stayed for Rs 7,500/- at the price I think there are many better deals for stay near Vagamon. If u are taking a driver please tell them in advance to arrange room for him.

One of the best homestays we have stayed. The cottages, views from the property, service from the guests and foodz everything was so good and well appreciated. Especially the way Mr. Joshi and Ms. Sunitha treats you, it is commendable. You can see one of the beautiful sunset from the property. Will surely visit again.

##WORST EXPERIENCE WITH BOOKING

We stayed there for two days in month of June.still the place is fresh in my memories and we wanted to go back.and my son wanted to go to same place for next vacation too.the food was so good.we lost the count of tea and coffee and in the view.reaching place itself is adventurous and everyone took care of us like a family.every thing is too enjoyable.puttu and kadalai curry was exceptional.

Me and my wife had a fantastic time at Mountain Villa. Wonderful hosts and a chef that makes amazing food.
A laidback location with views that are breathtaking and gorgeous. Living above a layer of clouds, mists and then intermittent rainfall made the stay dynamic with ever-changing panoramic views in front.

Did I mention about the chefs there? I would give the place a 5 just got the food. Joshy and Mohanan Chettan are delightful people always ready to help and bring you that extra black coffee on request. After all, what is an amazing view without coffee.:)

Had a pleasant and dreamy experience at this property. Sunitha and her staff took good care of us. I like the fact this entire place runs on solar. Got to see breathtaking picturesque views of vagamon hills, the arabian sea at the horizon, mist & rain pouring from the clouds at a good vantage point. Loved the barbeque experience at night, and the cottage reminded me of my grandma's house.

The place is just awesome and I loved the stay. The caretakers are really sweet nd the food is really tasty aswell. The place has a certain ambience and it literally calmed my soul. At first I was a little worried but now after staying Im really happy that I stayed.

Nice place to spend a few quite days away from the strife in the city. The travel to the site though "adventurous" was fun. Cottages are reasonably furnished with no TV or other unnecessary electronics to keep you away from enjoying the beauty of the place. Broad band is available if you need it though. The staff were friendly and the food had a homely feel. The deck where food is served is a nice place to hang out at. Best for a small group of 3 or 4 families. Please pack a good pair of trekking shoes while going there.

Our stay at mountain villa was memorable. The place is purely magical and connected with nature. The cottages are beautifully maintained and there’s a lot to walk and explore within their property (You can get to see their home-grown veggies too). There are benches placed at different viewpoints to relax and unwind. And the views from the resort is just beyond words! The staff is just excellent and the food that they served was delicious. We tried their Chinese options, biryanis, Kerala meals, chicken curry, fish curry, fish fry, chapathi, Porotta and they were all equally tasty and had a nice homely food touch.
We stayed at Mountain Villa for two nights and it was totally worth it.
We had booked stone cottage and bamboo cottage and both were unique in their own way.
Also, if you are interested in Jeep ride (thats an adventure itself) to visit nearby viewpoints in Vagamon, do ask for driver Jayanthan. He was helpful and very well informed about the place.

Mountain Villa is a beautiful place and strongly recommended for people who want to stay close to nature and experience its beauty and serenity. It is a pet friendly abode and has lots of space to roam around and explore. Entire staff is very friendly and accommodating. Joshy (the chef), Mohan, Abel and Vijay along with Sunita (owner of this place) are really doing a great job in maintaining this place and making their guests feel at home. Kudos to that.
It is suggested that you at least spend 2 days at this place. The weather is so awesome here that you can actually see the play of clouds and rains directly from your cottage.

A mystical place with thoughtfully renovated cottages, great food, hospitality and breathtaking view. We had booked both the stone cottage and planters villa. Stone cottage could accommodate 3 people and has one bedroom and hall. My favourite was the planters villa which is more secluded and beautifully renovated. Food was scrumptious. Staff is extremely helpful. This is undoubtedly one of the best places in Vagamon. It is totally an otherworldly experience. There is nothing negative about this place that I can think of. Memories of the day spent there have these dreamy vibes to it. Well maintained without tampering the eco around it. It was a delightful stay. Thank You Owners, The manager, Chef, Mohan chettan and Sugu (the sweetheart ️). Waiting for the next visit.

If I don't give a review about this place, I think it ain't fair. I have no words to describe how I felt about this place. The view is simply spectacular and the place has a magical touch. It's a Xanadu where you can forget everything from your busy urban life and take a chill pill. The service is amazing and all the staffs were too cooperative for anything asked. The food was also scrumptious.

I just wanted this experience, i was stuck at infinite adversaries, it was like either you run from the pandemic or you face the music, when you stop running, what will you have for tommorow, but everyone has a stop!
and i had the best stay and somewhere down my heart i never wanted it to end, i wanted to stay on and on, the tasty food served by joshi and mohan chetta, the food is divine, it is an art, and they both are masters of it, i peeped into the kitchen and i can see joshi enjoying the way he cooks, how many of us love the job we do? You always feel that these people complete the property, right from the day i set foot, i felt like i knew joshi and the entire team.
The host Sunitha was always in touch with my wife, she had welcomed with a beautiful smile, time and time again she wanted us to have the best time, yes she succeded.
The time had come where we had to leave the gorgeous views and the tasty food which was still lingering in my taste buds.
It is true that those we meet can change us, sometimes so profoundly that we are not the same afterwards, even unto our names.
I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is the moment when we had say goodbye.thank you mountain villa vagamon, until we meet again.

A stay at this place is something we would have cherished but they won't allow bachelors here. It's sad that bachelors can't enjoy a beautiful place like this. Very sad

Very good stay on a hill top. Dinner food was good with grill and ambience but breakfast was average. Offroading on jeep to hotel was a thrill to have with a different level of experience.
Looks like not suitable for people above 60years mostly because to reach Montain villa u need to do heavy offroading on jeep provided by MV team

Some ants where there from tree which was inside the room and made me actually a bit uncomfortable since tree were kept as it is by owner to avoid cutting tree or any modification indeed it was a good gesture towards environment so a big 5 rating for it

Enjoyed our stay here. It's actually, quite remote and if you want some peace and solitude, it can't get better. Was here with my friends and we had a great time. The owner was super helpful, available and kept checking with us at regular intervals to make sure we are well taken care of.

Pro's

1. Remote location, very peaceful and serene, been told that it's a 5 acre property. We were lucky to be the only guests and had the entire place to ourselves.

2. Helpful and friendly staff & owner, took excellent care of us.

3. You have to place orders for meals in advance, but everything served was fresh and delicious, especially the Beef Fry. They also set up a campfire and BBQ for us. No alcohol available, but you can carry your own stuff and enjoy as long you don't create nuisance for other guests. Food is reasonably priced. Joshy cooked up some great Kerala fare and the other caretaker kept us entertained with tales of times gone by and how the area has developed over the decades, enjoyed some great "small talk"

4. Nice walking trail within the property and benches at view points to sit and soak in the view

5. Wi Fi is available but is patchy at times. Airtel has no coverage.

6. There is a friendly dog to give you company as you explore the property.

Con's

1. The last 3 kms to this place is off road terrain and only 4*4 jeeps with high ground clearance can make it. They do provide free pick up and drop and a safe parking place for your car, but the ride up is really bumpy and you will be tossed around if you don't hold on. For sure will be difficult for senior citizens and young kids to get here. Best way in my view is to trek up the 3 kms and send your luggage via Jeep, subject to the weather and your fitness levels

2. If the weather is bad, there nothing much to do except stay holed up in your room.

3. Come here if you value peace and solitude, this is not your typical resort.

4. Considering the mist and rains the bed and interiors were damp, but nothing much can be done I Guess

No words to describe about this resort. I am so happy that I chose this location for my vacation with family. Excellent hospitality from the beginning to end. Perfect spot for unwinding the day to day routine of work. The 180 degree mountain view from the resort is spectacular. A special thanks to Mohanan Chetan and Joshi who made us some real good homly food.

Beautiful place with very pleasant staff and very comfortable stay. They have only 3 cottages in the whole facility so there is no crowd and we get a lot of time to ourselves.very happy with the srvice and how they have maintained the place

It was magnificent, never happened to experience such authentic place in my life. I Stayed at stone house for 3 days with my friends and I would really appreciate the host ms Sunitha for putting her efforts to make a cozy fairly tale space and providing soothing environment with it’s unique house elements, architecture in this modern era and the hospitality was top notch, the cook (Joshi), manager (Abel) And ofcourse the cute little dog (sangu) made us feel like home. One of the best staycation experience. Great place with awesome food and great views and climate. The cottages are authentic stone cottages with all basic amenities. There is a 3 km off road drive in a jeep to get here with some great views along the road. Overall had a very relaxed experience with all the sounds of birds. Very private place for people looking for a close to nature experience.

The Mountain Villa is located at a remote place with an excellent ambiance which makes it unique in its category. The view of nature from the villa premises is fabulous and splendid. The service was very cordial and the food was delicious. The host Ms. Sunitha Alex deserves a special mention for her extremely customer-caring attitude (we talked & chatted only; not met in person). Mr. Joshy, the care taker-cum-chef also got very friendly attitude and have a commendable culinary skills. I can share our overall experience with a single word ‘blissful’!

Our stay at mountain villa in a unique beautifully done up stone cottage are truly the best two days of our lives. The location in the heart of the mountains and stupendous views the cool pristine air the unspoilt environment I have no words. Joshi was also so polite Co oeprarive and helpful. Had the most wonderful tasty food. The cherrata puttu with kadala curry and papadum. Joshi also was kind enough to grate fresh jaggery for us to go with it. An ecologically conscious vacation spot. Location is great, away from the human hustle, and with a beautiful bird's eye view of 5 districts of kerala. Responsible consumption of energy, generation of renewable energy, organic farming, respectful to the surrounding fauna, etc, is an inspiring model to all. Amazing off roading experience, as we reached the property, the view was excellent. At nights one can sight kochi port lightings from here even though it’s around 100km. And the caretaker Mohan Cheta is sooo good in cooking. The landlord having fantastic taste for the hand picked interiors. Would like to stay again. Thank you Alex madam.

"Mountain Villa" it actually means it. The Villa on the top of the mountain! <br/>My husband surprised me by taking me to Mountain Villa on our first Wedding Anniversary. From the moment I reached the top of the mountain where the Villa is situated, I was thoroughly impressed. The interior decor was upscale yet warm and inviting and the personnel I encountered was all very pleasant and accommodating. <br/>Highly recommended place if somebody is interested in natural getaways. The Villa is on the top of the mountain a truly Rare and unique experience of staying in Bamboo Villa with all the amenities. Air conditioner or fan nor required, as the Villa is blessed with natural cool breeze and fresh air. It has a very safe atmosphere with lots of privacy. TV/phones not required for time pass as there are lot more to do with greenery and site seeing. <br/>The host Vinod chettan was really pleasing with surprising hospitality. Thanks to Abel and Vinod chettan for taking us for wonderful sightseeing and for giving us an experience of adventurous off-road drive through Steep and Rocky Mountains. They did all the arrangements for the evening anniversary cake cutting with beautiful lighting and decorations outside the villa under the tree. That was fabulous. <br/>Coming to the food, Mohan chattan (Chef) prepared outstanding, tasty and yummy Kerala traditional food for us. <br/>We thoroughly enjoyed it and appreciate all the efforts, the host put into our visit. Mountain Villa is an apt example of the saying " Nature is so powerful"
My husband and I were at Mountain Villa for a day and how we wished we had more. The jeep ride up to the stone cottage was adventurous, sipping on our morning coffee outside the stone cottage with the mist wafting past us was magical, the food cooked fresh and served by Mohan chettan was simply delicious, the crickets and butterflies, the flowers, the mountains, the long walks ups the hills, the water from the rocks, sunset and sunrise - all of it was pure bliss and the oneness with nature was breathtaking at this completely eco friendly place. The view from the cottage reinforces Tagore's line "Trees are Earth's endless effort to speak to the listening Heaven". This was by far one of the best holidays we have had.
Sunitha and Alex have invested a lot of time and effort in ensuring that each of their guests truly experience what Vagamon has to offer. This place is run 100% on solar energy and the water is from the rocks.can we ask for more!
It should be a must visit for all those who have plans to holiday in Kerala.

We loved so many things about this place. The 4 wheel drive (we went in our own 4 wheel drive car), the secluded and peaceful place, lush green mountains, just the fresh air:) and hospitality. This is a place we are definitely going back.

One of the best place I have visited till now. The hosts were really helpful and friendly. Great cook Mohanettan who knew how to serve the customer. The room was very neat and the service was excellent. From the Erumadam, we could view the mountains and feel the cool breeze. It felt like living with nature, very clean and clear water, a very good place to relax and chill. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The view of the sunset from that point was mesmerizing. I must say the location of the resort is at best place of Vagamon.

Mountain villa is one of the best places I have been. It's secluded from the regular town and mostly surrounded by trees and hills. This is an ideal place for anyone to enjoy and have a peaceful time. The whole setup is beautiful and well maintained. The people there are really nice and friendly. They arranged camping for us and even took us to an adventurous trek around the property which was extremely fun. Overall, I would say we had a really wonderful stay.

This place is pure bliss. Anyone who wishes to take a break and enjoy the scenic beauty of the mountains should definitely check this place out. The rooms are well maintained and the staff is prompt and very polite.

Where else can you see eagles fly beneath you?

There is something fascinating about Hills and Mountains - so when I was presented an opportunity to stay at Mountain Villa I grabbed it with both hands! I had been to Vagamon, circa a decade ago with my family but this time I was going alone and with luck to be joined by a friend at the location at this offbeat Villa which has a history - more on it later.
The biggest attraction was the promise of being offline, a rarity these days. With all the myriad communication channels one can barely hear oneself think, anymore.
How to get there: By Road > Head to Vagamon and take a deviation to Kurishumala.
Or alternately, take the Kerala Public Buses (KSRTC). I decided to rough it out totally and took this option. You need to disembark at Vazhikkadavu Bus Stop which is Opp Kurishumala, after which either you can trek or use the Villa's 4WD Jeep. Hark, the trek is solely for the Hale and hearty. I opted for the Jeep.
About the Villa: Mountain Villa currently has two cottages - a Stone Cottage and a Bamboo Cottage, I am reviewing the former where I stayed in. Two more existing stone cottages are under renovation and should be ready for occupancy soon.
The Stone Cottage is about 60 years old and made of stone and mortar, roofed with asbestos sheets from the post independence era. (Its corrugated Iron-sheets, for pre-independence cottages - some triva for those interested). There is a Varandah where one can sit and watch the mist creeping in from the valley below, on a sultry evening. During rainy season, on a clear day, one can even spot Eerattupetta and at times Pala town!
Upon entering, one steps into a spacious Hall with a Diwan and enough chairs to accommodate a group of four easily, and on to a bedroom with a Queen Bed. The floor is paved with quaint tiles and along with the colored glass windows it gives it a very earthy and rustic feel which I loved. There are some distressed artifacts that add to the beauty. The old school bakelite switches and bras pipes complete the decor.
The bedroom has excellent cross ventilation and it opens to the valley. It also has an Open Bathroom which I have only seen in a Five Start Hotel and a Theme Resort for Weddings earlier. The Washbasin carved out of stone as well as the plush plumbing and sanitary ware lends a degree of poshness. The only grouse is its a tad uncomfortable when it rains, but this is apparently being taken care of soon.
There is an adjoint varendah with a bench, where food is served on a bright day. Alternatively one can eat in the hall as well.

About Food:
The food is typical kerala cuisine and - veg, non veg etc are catered to upon request. I opted for vegetarian whilst my friend had fried fish, along with.
We had Puttu and Kadala (Steamed rice cake and chickpeas) along with Plantain for breakfast.
For lunch there was a scrumptious spread even though I requested for less. They definitely overfeed you. Kerala Rice with Curds, Fried Fish, Sabji and Curry along with Fried Pappadam and Pickles was for lunch.
Dinner was lean with Chappathis Salads and Potato Subji. We did not opt for Red/White Meat or eggs which can be prepared on request. The caretaker told me that many prefer to party on late into the night, while some preferred to settle down with a book.

Mountain Villa is self sustained. Solar panels power the house and the kitchen. Drinking water is from a small brook that springs forth from the rocks above, the purest mineral water you can enjoy directly from brook to bottle!

The Ambiance: The only sound one hears is the chirping of crickets, the bird calls, the rustling of wind on leaves and the pitter-patter of rain drops. The mist rolls in by 5.30 and it's pitch dark by 7 pm, in the month of June. So its total privacy and one can either drink in the silence with a book or a drink in solitude, or spent in company of friends and family.

Its a 60 year old structure built by the Abbot of Kurishumala - pls ask the caretaker for his part of the story and Alex the owner for the rest!

This place made our trip very memorable. We were excited about the trip right from the day we booked as the place is remote and little /no network coverage. To reach the place itself takes like a 15-20 min jeep rocky place, the resort stands on a cliff with just the view of several mountains. There were two cottages one a Bamboo house with a cool bath tub and the other a stone cottage with cozy interiors. There is a kitchen were you can self cook or they also cook you delicious meal. And the staff there are really friendly so u don’t even feel that you are in a remote place. They get you things whatever you want from the town down hill with prior intimation. Also, they took us on a sunset trek down the mountains to a cave which had fresh running water were they made us hot tea a perfect end to the day, this trek was totally unexpected and it gave us some really enchanting views of the mountains amidst the sunset. We spent two nights here, So the second day we stayed in a tent and they made us barbecue grill and campfire everything was just perfect. For adventure seekers and nature lovers it’s a great place. We had a really wonderful experience. The place might not be suitable for families with kids as it’s remote and the route is rocky, network coverage was not a big issue as some networks had coverage all the time.

I have to say this is one of the best place i ve stayed.the scenery from the cottage is awesome.i will definitely refer this place. And dont expect 5 star facilities there. But what they provide is well enough for everyone.the food was delicious and was made to our taste. If you are looking for a calm, peaceful place without any disturbance of city, then this is the place.

Visit to Mountain Villas was a suddenly planned trip and a memorable one. It's a beautiful property isolated from the crowd. The enjoyment starts from drive in the Jeep to the resort through the rough but beautiful terrain. The stone cottage is simple yet classy. Hand picked interiors makes it stylish. The staff are friendly and top notch. The food mouth watering. The stay was beautiful and we bonded with nature as a family.
