Boating on Mattupetty lake is the main service. Pedal boat, speed boat and family boat is there. Price seems a bit higher, but if you bargain they will definitely decrease the price. Location is enriched with beautiful natural scenery. Boating through the lake is also an unforgettable memory. We took 2 speed boats along with driver. He cruise through the lake for around 20 mins. It felt good. One of the must do thing in Munnar.

Booting is too far from beach area and people are trying to look animal but Nothing is there, wasting time n Money

The boating experience is quite meh. The ride is quite short. It's one of those "might as well" things. There's a slight chance you'd spot elephants/buffalos (in the evening) on the river side while taking the ride, which is the only exciting part about the boat ride.

Safe and good place for boating without disturbing nature. Nice spot to visit with family but elder people might need help.

Government tourisum Department provided Boating with 4 options here. Nestled inside the hills of Munnar and very near to the Anamudi peak lies Mattupetty, the hill station at a height of 1,700 m. Mattupetty is located 13 km away from Munnar. The main attraction of Mattupetty is the dam and the lake here.

In the midst of the hills, surrounded by the tea gardens, Shola forest and hilly woods lays a beautiful lake, just a few miles away from the Mattupetty dam. The serene ambience of the lake will take you to a world of peace. You have endless options – either you can go for boating in the lake or you can sit on the shore enjoying the tranquility here. Tourists can go for a speed boat, pedal boat, motor boat or row boat.
But speed boat is more thrilling.

There are two boating experience you could do. Pedal Boats and Motor Boats. Pedal boat entrance is the one you will see on your left just before the Dam Bridge which gets clogged most of the time. The better one would be the Motor Boats which entrance is located about 1 km from the bridge. Be ready to walk down quite a few steep steps. If you have aged people you could request the car be allowed downhill to drop them off near boat boarding point. Remember it's still a good 50 yards of downhill that u need to cover by walk before u reach the boat. The ticket counter is located at the entrance and various types of boats like covered, speed jets, group motor boats with larger capacity are available at different time slots. The earlier the day u visit u will have plenty of options to ponder with. My best option was the speed jet.

The is the most attractive part of Mattupetty dam is its still water which reflects the tea garden around. You can engage yourself with water sport activities like speed boating organized by district Tourism Promotion Council of Idukki (Munnar) and enjoy the pretty natural surroundings of this beautiful dam. Adventure lovers also have options here like trekking in the Shola forest.

Mattupetty is also known as ‘cattle village’, the name which came from the famous Indo Swiss farm project or Livestock project. The project was launched in the year 1963 as part of the bilateral agreement between India and the Swiss government. You can see hundreds of varieties of high yielding cattle in this farm. The sight of the cattle grazing freely on the hills of the wide farm is a unique experience which any tourist can have ever in his life.

It's a very nice place. Good climate and view. There is an entry pass for everyone. Boating facility is available. But it is as a package of 5 people. There are a number of rides for the kids. But you have to pay for the whole package of rides. Ticket for individual rides is not available.
