When are you people gonna acknowledge the fact people with disabilities are also humans? ! To all the govt officials if y’all don’t know how to build a wheelchair friendly toilet that an actual wheelchair fits don’t even try, please you’re not helping anyone. I’m not angry with you, I just pity you, cause after everything a place with the most literacy rate have the people with the most pathetic mind! Like all the minorities in this world people with disability also have their own needs.

Best place to visit and peaceful atmoshere for spending time. The place is completely covered with trees. It is centre of attraction in the heart of the city. It is a tourist place with a zoo, art gallery, snake park etc. The Napier Museum is also one of the best attractions.

The Napier Museum in it's current form started in the year 1857. It owes its origin to the joint efforts of J A Brown, the then director of the Trivandrum Observatory and General William Cullen, the then British resident, the govt.approved of Brown's idea of start a museum in a part office Bungalow.

In order to place the museum on stronger and more satisfactory basis, a society was organised in 1855 with Sree Uthram Thirunal, the maharaja of Travancore as patron, the British Resident General William Cullen as president, the Ilaya Raja as vice president and Mr. Brown as secretary of the society and director of the museum. Its objectives was to effort instruction and encouragement in arts and crafts exhibition of specimens of interests in Natural History and products of arts in industry indigenous and foreign.

In 1872, Lord Napier send Robert Fellowes Chisholm, Architect to the govt. Of Madras to Travancore to design a museum. It was against the preference of officials (who wanted classical style for the new building) that Chisholm attempted to promote native art and architecture. He found himself in an incongruous position of having to instruct erudite Travancore elite on how best to foster and extend their own art. In a short span of few months Chisholm thoroughly acquainted himself with all that had been done in an Architectural way, by both Europeans and natives. His extremely idiosyncratic design for the museum was based on a very beautiful form of domestic art.

In 1880, the new building designed by Chisholm, named after Lord Napier, the then governor of Madras, was occupied. The building is of considerable architectural beauty. Set in the sprawling ground of the public gardens. This architectural marvel stands in glory portraying the majestic grandeur of the Travancore dynasty. The old museum established by Sri Uthram Tirunal, the then king of Travancore was demolished as it was not large enough to display the immense collection and the present Napier Museum was built. Robert Chisholm designed it in an Indo-sarasenic style in which Indo-Islamic and Indian elements and the Gothic architecture are united harmoniously. Mugal, Italian and Chinese architectural styles that influenced the Kerala architecture merged together to give life to this beauty.

A great place with soothing Ambience surrounded by well maintained greenery. Good spot to sit alone, relax, read books, think deeply or to have meaningful conversations.
Personally I feel its better to go there on evenings of working days so that the crowd will be less and it will be much more quieter.
Huge crowd on holidays kill that quiet calm vibe. Overall the best in trivandrum, pretty neat place to relax.

This old museum established by Sri Uthram Thirunal, was demolished during the reign of Ayilyam Thirunal as it was not large enough to display the immense collection of artifacts and therefore the present Napier Museum was built. The main motto behind the formation was to provide instruction and encouragement in arts and crafts exhibiting specimens of interest in natural history and products of art and industry, both native and foreign.

The museum is a place of heritage and historic value. The garden around the place adds more beauty to the scenic sunset. People come there for walks and is an awesome place to chill out if you want a quick escape from the city hustle.

Only option in the city for a walk, or for a quick nap, rest, party or leisure. You'll definitely get bored after the 3rd or 4th visit. Do gather a team before going.

It's a good archeological museum. Good collections of ancient sculptures, musical instruments, etc.most of them are collected from Kerala. Precious materials from China, Japan, and other countries are are also present which were gifted to Trivandrum Maharaja when he visited those places.

The Napier Museum is an art and natural history museum situated in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, India.  Built in the 19th century, it has its own natural air-conditioning system

Art gallery and museum constructed under Thiruvithamkur dynasty. It contains a lot of sculptures models and artifacts. This museum preserves the sword of famous Dalawa, Velu Thambi, who fought against British over rule over Travancore. The architecture of the museum building itself is exciting. The ground around the area is calm and very good place to spend an evening.

Our usual get together place the grounds around the museum are great for resting. Best for jogging, preferable time would be early mornings and evenings. Lack of restaurants (budget friendly) are the only drawback. The zoo and art gallery are amusing too.

This place is a great attraction for touristors and non-touristors. Well maintained and greeny atmosphere gives pleasant views and memories. Zoo, museum and art museum all located in the same place.

The management needs to do something about it! They are simply fooling the tourists by showing nothing much of historical relevance or Kerala and its past. Ivory figurines and Guruvayur temple model are part of the display! Poor clueless tourists are lining up to see this! I overheard severe criticism from educated and learned foreigners and tourists!
