My stay at Oyster Marris couldn’t have been better, it’s a wonderful, peaceful accommodation a little up the hill, off from the main roads of Trivandrum. The room is spacious and comes with all amenities one might need and, just as the remainder of the house it’s all spotless and shining clean. Everywhere on the property you will find plants, even up until the bathroom, and with windows open and outdoor hangouts (a swinging chair!), all breathes a very comfortable atmosphere.
The food served upon request is local, it’s fresh, it’s plenty and it is incredibly tasty. Food is served in a separate room where also a fridge and kettle can be find.
Above all though, it’s the people that make this such a lovely place to stay. The family goes above and beyond to make one feel home and to tell the story of Kerala and the Trivandrum area. They take special pride in the foods, explaining all its symbolic meaning.
Should I find myself in Trivandrum again, I’ll stay here. That’s a certainty!
Our stay at oyster marris was pleasant and enjoyable. The rooms are superbly clean and maintained well. The ambience of the place is great. This place is apt for families who are looking for a safe and pleasant stay. The food prepared by Mrs. Aswathi is awesome. Do not miss to try the prom fret polichottu. It was a home away from home for us and we felt so much like home after our 5 days of he tic schedule from kochi, munnar thekkady and allepey.
Senthil and Aswathy are the perfect hosts. They are attentive and generous with site-seeing suggestions and help with local travel. Don’t miss their epic meals of local, fresh foods- some from their own garden. The rooms are beautiful and private with seating areas and decks to help you relax. You will be so well taken care of!
Oyster Marris Homestay is a gem — I’m so glad to have found this place! It’s run by the warmest, kindest family you’ll ever meet. Aswathy was a journalist and experienced how hard it was to travel safely and comfortably as a solo female traveler, so she opened a Homestay especially geared toward women — solo, with friends like us, mothers with children. Her cooking is amazing — sign up for every possible meal! The vegetarian sadhya banquet was especially wow. Senthil was fantastic at suggesting fun outings, arranging tuk tuks, boats, train tickets, Ayurvedic massage appointments — he was a logistics wizard and made our visit so easy and fun. The rooms are spotlessly clean and super comfortable, with AC, great bathrooms, a lovely plant-filled dining room for meals, a terrace with more lovely plants. This is a wonderful, wonderful place — I can’t recommend it highly enough!
It's actually much more than a 5 star experience. The host family is now our extended family. They treated us with so much warmth and care and took care of absolutely everything. Right from our pick up to our drop at a very odd hour at 3 a.m. Also, they arranged to buy the jackfruit halwa and chips as we were too tired to go out on the last day to buy. Aswathy's cooking skills are exceptional (we can never forget the taste) and Senthil's serving style is so graceful, so very "Indian". (The Sadya a very elaborate and special occasions ' meal served in Kerala, is a treat - both, visual as well as for your taste-buds and they had made each and every item with so much care. The fish preparations too were totally, mind blowing yummy). They truly believe and treat you as "Atithi Devo Bhava" (To treat the Guest like God). And their son Kashinath is a very gentlemanly young boy. He is a joy to converse with and such a talented person. His drawings are amazing for his age and alongwith reading he loves to play football. My son, Chinmay who is twice his age, could still share a bond with him. God bless this wonderful family. We want them to come stay with us and to keep in touch. And if you are planning a trip to Thiruvananthapuram or Kovalam then Oyster Marris Homestays should be your place to stay if you want to carry wonderful memories of your trip.
One of the best places to stay in Trivandrum if you want to enjoy authentic Kerala dishes. Ashwathy makes amazing food. You name it and she will make it for you with all her passion and love. We got to enjoy some awesome veg and non-veg Kerala style dishes. And Sentil is great with the service he provides to his guests. He personally takes care of all his guests individually which is rare to see. I and my family had a lovely stay with these lovely people and will definitely come back to stay here again!
My stay at Oyster Maria Homestay was amazing - hosts Aswathi and Senthil have created an environment that is so welcoming and comfortable. Every meal is an abundance of flavors, and you might be ruined for any other food in India - everything is fresh and local, and you will learn the history and context for each dish. Additionally, Senthil will happily make any arrangements for your time in Trivandrum - he can put together a day taking in local sights, arrange drivers, and make other recommendations. He also helped us with our onward journey, purchasing train tickets and providing a ride to the station. The rooms are comfortable (good beds!), and the kitchen/dining area is such a joy with many plants and lovely morning light. The heart of your stay is the family. Aswathi and Senthil are incredibly kind and generous and made our stay so memorable.
The hosts Aswathy and Senthil have taken all the care to make this a place that meets all the requirements of a home. Close tothis homestay are a number of beaches where you can relax, places that are historically and culturally significant, and shopping malls of international quality. The major highlight is the food they make for you, taking into consideration all your dietary needs and the variety of local cuisine that you are keen to experiment with, and served with an extra ounce of care and affection! Ideal for regular travelers, families, single women, photographers, movie makers, or those who are looking for an artist's/writer's retreat.
Away from the city, easily accessible. A place where one appreciates serenity with comfort. Property is very well maintained. Food is prepared with utmost care. Family friendly. Excellent food, good location, safe place. What more could one ask for?
