Paliam Palace പാലിയം കൊട്ടാരം

The Paliam Palace was once used as the residence of the Paliath Achans, who were the prime ministers to the former Maharajas of the State of Kochi. During the 16th century, when the security of the Raja was under threat by the Portuguese, the then Paliath Achan ensured the safety of the Raja by escorting him to Chendamangalam.). The Raja is believed to have stayed incognito in the place near the Kalari, hence the name Paliam Kovilakom (Palace). The Dutch in appreciation of the Paliath Achan’s services renovated this building in Chendamangalam and presented it to him.

Worth a visit. It was the office of Paliyathachan (minister of kochi king). Currently well preserved and restores. The guide was very informative. Photography is prohibited. Very moderate entry fee. Students get special concession. The same entry pass can be used to vist the nalukettu near by.

Good experience and you'll get to know the history of the palace, how they lived, etc. With one ticket you can visit both the palace and the kovilakam. Guides are with good knowledge on the history and they explain well.

Paliyam palace has a great place in the history of Kerala. Very much impressed by their way of administration. And it's part of musiris. A must watch place for all.

Wonderful experience, the guide explained quite well the historic importance of the place. Guide fees are part of the ticket cost, ticket cost is near to 50 per person.

Though it was comparatively a little crowded since it was a weekend, I could explore each gallery peacefully, in my own time. It's better if you reach by 10 am and finish exploring all the galleries before they close for lunch at 1 pm. They make you move out and wait till 2 pm.before the galleries open again. If you are visiting towards the afternoon, go after lunch around 2 pm so that you have enough time to explore the galleries. You will have to leave your footwear outside at an open access footwear collection place before entering the galleries. The deer park is adjacent to the palace itself and you can see some deer up close.

Visited on a Sunday with family. The ticket purchased gives you a visit to Paliyam Palace and free access to Paliyam Museum located nearby. Guided tour comes along with the ticket. The guides are well trained and professional. Detailed description of history, architecture (Dutch and traditional Kerala style) could be appreciated. Worth a visit. Required a hour atleast to see both these places. Place is closed on Mondays.

The Paliam Dutch Palace is located in the district of Ernakulam in the village of Chennamangalam. The palace is believed to have been a safe house for the ministers of the royal family when security was under threat due to the Portuguese. It is also believed that the Raja stayed incognito in the palace himself. The palace was restored and gifted back to the ministers of Kerala by the Dutch in appreciation of their valiant efforts. The building features elaborate and intricate Dutch architecture with a number of fascinating elements present within.

After visiting Paliam Palace you can visit Nearby nalunettu with the same ticket which you'll be liking to the core as then you'll get to know about something you've never imagined off! I'm not breaking the suspense by telling what it is!

Adults ticket cost 55/- per person.
No photography allowed, will be guided throughout the palace and the guide will explain the history. You can visit both the palace and nallukettu with the same ticket, and nallukettu is at walkable distance, free drinking water and toilet facilities is available.
We cannot take photos however we can take photo in front of the elephant which is placed at the front gate of the paliam palace.

It was actually the residence of the prime minister to the honorable king. But the King's presence in this residence for decision making purposes in certain cases made it called as Palace. You can see the present paliyam family near the palace. The movie 'Nandanam' throughout was shot in this palace. The guides are really helpful in understanding the history behind the whole palace and the traditional collections. Photos are not allowed inside the palace. With the same pass ticket, you can go to the minister's sisters residence. For a wide range of palace experience, you may go to Hill palace Thripunithura, where the Honourable King lived.

A museum with good collection of antiques. Entry fee is 55 Rs for one person. Each senior citizens will have a discount of Rs. 27. Staffs working inside in the paliam palace gives a lot of information regarding historical records & important events that took place in the palace. The renovation works inside the musuem will be under the control of muziris heritage department.

Its a nice place to visit for archaelogical enthusiasts. The place has been preserved well under the Muziris heritage project. One noteworthy thing about this museum is that you get a guide once you enter the museum and they explain everything about the place, culture & traditions followed in that era.

A very quaint and cozy place with great ambiance.
Serves as a reminder for the history of Kerala
A must visit place and it’s just 20 mins away from Kodungallur Temple.

There is an entry fee of 55 rs for normal ppl. Fee is less for students. We will have a guide to explain everything. Overall goood experience.

Loved the location and ambiance. Instructors were assisnged to each group. Explained each and every aspect including the architectural design and its importance for the palace. Additional allowances for senior citizens. Good washroom facilities. Overall great.

It is a great experience. Guides are just awesome. The way they explains makes us more knowledgeable and excited about the history.

Beautiful palace
It is a palace where you can learn about ancient cultures and architecture

The rich traditional house of Paliyathachan, the prime ministers of Kings of Kochi. It's actually the administration block especially the affairs related to war. So that the male members of the family were using the building. We can watch a vedio in the beginning of the visit to the palace. It will give us a clear picture of the palace and their dynasty. Since there is no permission for photography inside, we can't get more details. Malayalam Movie Nandanam was shot in the palace. The guide was a great help.

Loved my visit. Went there with my cousins and had a great time. Staffs are friendly and will guide us inside. They will take us back to the history and explain about the artefacts and construction of the palace. They will also show a video on how the palace functioned in the past. Dont go there rushed. Take your time and see the place. A Must visit historical place.

A mixture of Kerala and Dutch architect is seen here. The curator is an expert in giving its antique past. The nalukettu accoladed the royal family's larger members is an attachment to the palace. Ticket for both the monument entry is 55rupees

Traditional home of the Paliathu Achans (Prime Ministers to the Kings of Kochi), The architectural style of Paliam Kovilakam is a hybrid of Kerala and Dutch styles. It’s a museum showcasing sapramanjakkattil, dutch model starecases, Dutch sash windows among many other thing. Architecture style and ventilation design are nice to explore.

Paliam palace is a beautiful palace with rich historical importance and protected under the Muziris Heritage project. When I visited that place the staff (a lady) behave rudely and she told me that I am not allowed to take any photos of the place, even if I have permission to do so from higher authorities.

It is a national heritage site and a protected monument opened for public. I don't understand what happened to the palace if I or someone else took a photo. There's no warning notice anywhere mentioning that photography is prohibited there. There are a few movies shoot at this palace both, inside and out! If they can allowed a movie crew to shoot there, why they prevent commoners who is interested in their national heritage and culture?

ഗതാഗത സൗകര്യങ്ങൾ വളരെ കുറവാണ് ഇവിടെ. മ്യൂസിയത്തിൽ കാഴ്ചയും വളരെ കുറവ്. പണ്ടുകാലത്തെ ചില ഗ്യാലറികൾ ഒക്കെയുണ്ട് പക്ഷേ ചരിത്രം പറഞ്ഞു തരാൻ അധികം ഗൈഡുകൾ ആരുമില്ല. മുസ്രിസ് വകുപ്പിന് കീഴിലാണ് മ്യൂസിയം. ന്യൂ സിറ്റി ഉള്ള വസ്തുക്കൾ വളരെ മനോഹരമാണ്. കൊച്ചി രാജാവിനെ മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന പാലിയത്തച്ചന് ഡച്ചുകാർ പണിത കൊടുത്തതാണ് ഈ കൊട്ടാരം. കേരള വാസ്തു തലയിൽ നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തമായി ഡച്ച് ശൈലിയിലാണ് നിർമ്മാണം. തൊട്ടടുത്തുതന്നെ പാലിയത്തച്ചൻ തറവാടായ നാലുകെട്ട് ഉണ്ട്.

It is the palace of Prime ministers of Rajas of Kingdom of Kochi. It is actually built by the Dutch.

This Kovilakam was meant solely for the residence of Valiyachan (Eldest Achan) of Paliam. The two buildings nearby were used as his offices. Achan held court with people and listened to their complaints in the Durbar Hall at the eastern end of the first floor

Beautiful experience. How cool the place is, even it's hot outside. Hats off to the engineers who built this palace. So many things to see.
