Periyar House

Periyar house, Aranya Nivas, Lake Palace - all the three resorts are located inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Lake Palace is located in the farthest point inside the jungle and it is accessible only through a ferry service.

If you're planning to stay in Thekkady, I will recommend to stay in all these resorts and each one will give you a distinct experience. Staying at Lake Palace may not be possible for everyone as it is pretty much costly. Also persons required regular medical attention may avoid Lake Palace.

When you are coming to stay at any of these resorts, first you will reach at Forest Check Post and you have to purchase pass. Pass is valid only for a day so next day if you're going out and coming back to stay again better you have to inform the Check Post Guards so purchase cost of pass on next day will be less. Entry to the Check Post will be closed at 5 o clock.

Periyar house is budget friendly. Located outermost part of the jungle. Has a good play area for Kids. As the name suggests it is a Jungle Lodge. Ambience of restaurant is Ok but was better at Aranya Nivas. Staff were more friendly at Periyar house.

If you're staying at Periyar house, you will be likely to visit Spice Route, a spice garden cum shop at Kumily town. It may be better avoided. Also going to Meghamalai and Suruli water fall is a waste of time and money.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful retreat, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations. The seamless blend of comfort, delectable cuisine, and exceptional service truly made my stay memorable.

A special shout-out is in order for Mr. Manu and the rest of the staff. Their attention to detail and genuine care for the guests was evident in every interaction. Their dedication to ensuring a delightful experience was commendable. Mr. Manu, in particular, was a true gem. He assisted with every request, making our stay with my 4-year-old an absolute breeze.

Being nestled in the heart of nature was a truly enchanting experience, the serene park provided a perfect alternative to soak in the natural surroundings.

The mornings, filled with leisurely walks and the promise of invigorating treks and boat safaris, were a highlight of my stay. I highly recommend this retreat to anyone seeking a nature-centric getaway.

Kudos once again to Mr. Manu and the entire staff for their exceptional hospitality. I look forward to returning soon.

Very nice stay with a good ambience inside the forest. The staff are very cooperative and supportive. The food was good and tasty.

This place is run by KTDC Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. This is a good place to stay with family and have ample parking space and a park. In the same complex there’s a better stay run by KTDC under the name Aranya Nivas. Then there’s another one by KTDC inside the forest lake. This is economical compared to Aranya Nivas which is economical compared to the one in the forest lake. Book online.

Good rooms and service are very appreciatable. This property is inside the forest area, so you must see so many monkeys around to keep all your personal belongings carefully. And in my knowledge only we can get around between 7.30 AM to 5.30 PM,
It's just because we are inside the forest.

Stay was great but food was not upto the mark. It was very costly, but had no taste at all. All the products were double the price.

It was calm and quiet, rooms were clean, would have been happy if the food was also great.

Good experience staying in jungle lodge, major wild life is rare but you can see deer and other small animals around the place.children playing area is also very good.

A hotel in the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary and so we get to see and hear wildlife at all times. Guests have to be back in the hotel by 5.30pm and stay in the rooms as there are no arrangement for entertainment or indoor games. Food options are limited but staff are helpful.

Beautiful location and well maintained. Its an old british hunting lodge converted to rooms. Has an old world charm. Spacious rooms, clean linens and nice ambience. All basic amenities readily available in the middle of the forest. Good food in the restaurant although a bit pricey.

Government owned. Standard rooms. Restaurant's food menu have only limited items, served to best.

The stay was pleasant and stayed here for 2 nights. The food was good and the hospitality was top-class.

Pros:
# location is in deep jungle / sanctuary.
# boating spot is walkable distance from hotel. It's one of the best advantage to stay here.
# calm and peaceful spot. No disturbance at all.
# breakfast was quite good. Idly was so soft.

Cons:
# you have enter the hotel before 5.30pm. Hence tour planning is affected.
# everyday you have to buy an entry ticket for the vehicle and person. It is expensive in case you venture out of the sanctuary every day.

A good place to stay in the midst of Periyar Tiger reserve. Good hospitality, awesome food and a pleasant stay.

It's named as Jungle Lodge.located within the Jungle. Good place to spend a day Or two with family. A small park with a play area for children will surely attract all. The presence of monkeys is also attractive, but you need to be more cautious with your belongings as they tend to snatch.
Thekkady boat house is too near with a small walk through the jungle.

Costing at Periyar House is reasonable.

Wonderful experiences with staying inside Periyar Tiger Reserve for one night.where the calmness of nature with the sound of forest, wild animals, birds, insects will give you thrilling experiences. Wild animals could seen roaming around in the nearby. KTDC boat tickets is for lake safari can be arrange by the hotel reception.boat jetty is 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel.

There is no entry into this after 5pm. Kathakali n marshal arts in the town begins after5pm. So, it blocks ur activities. Stay here is suggestable for those who book jungle scot n patrolling etc. Lunch n dinner are buffet@ INR 500+GST. (free for below 10 yrs along with parents).

Good place to stay inside forest at Thekkady with family. Food at this place is average. The staffs are not so customer friendly.

Best stay in thekkady. Good for Family. Enjoy the sound of crickets. In the mid of forest. Only thing disappointing is monkeys. There are too much monkeys. They enter inside room, car and take away eatables. Beware of them. Expct that everything was nice.

Awesome location. An ideal forest lodge. Saw a few porcupines from our room.

Good food and an old world charm. It is more of an outdoor space. You get assured tickets for the periyar lake boating for sighting wildlife. There are a few treks arranged by the wildlife dept which can be booked from here.

Room has very old furniture n a basic bathroom. As it was raining, a few snails ended up in our bathroom too. There could be leeches in the lawns if it rains.

Really i enjoyed well with family. It's a amazing location and place for family trip and stay. Superb Food, buffet breakfast, lunch, Dinner. Taste and food quality and quantity is superb. Housekeeping, room cleaning, Toilet cleaning all are perfect clean. They provided wifi user /password for connectivity due to mobile network issue.

The rooms are comfortable and affordable when it comes to staying inside the Periyar Reserve. We paid 4188rs.for 2nights (including breakfast & taxes). But the services associated with the stay are a big disappointment. There are hidden charges for the food. They provide only buffet and no à la carte. They charge ₹500 + taxes (per person) for one time meal. Also the menu includes fancy dishes and no traditional Kerala food. Only breakfast was included in the room prices. But food served in small local restaurants outside the Periyar Reserve was way more tasty than this hotel breakfast. Inside the Periyar Reserve one will have no options of food and this is used as an advantage to charge heavily at the hotel.

The tap water in the hotel is very muddy. Wonder whether it is fit for use. It seems they get this water from nearby lake and there is no filtration done.

Do not book boating through the hotel. If doing so, request for a small boat and outside seats for better viewing.

If you choose to stay inside the Periyar Reserve, there is an in-time of 6pm. This means you can't enjoy the Kalaripayattu and Kathakali shows which are usually held from 5-7pm at different locations in Thekkady. The Entry to the Reserve (Visitors as well as car) is charged on per day basis and not included in the hotel cost.

Nice clean calm environment. Water tank has rain water with leaves in it, next to restaurant. Sending bad smell around. Also employees are feeding monkeys so they're robbing people fo their bags. Food price is reasonable. Room rate ok. Unique forest serene environment. Staff is friendly. Monkey nuisance is there.i saw wild pigs black langurs porcupine wild life.

A true Jungle lodge where you can breath purest form of Oxygen and we can see Wild Animals coming to us, just to say Hi!

Affordable KTDC property inside Periyar Tiger Reserve with charming weather. They serve us delicious food and the staffs are very friendly and helpful. Though rooms are little old the location makes the property outstanding. There are some Wild animals who are usual visitors and they became quite friendly with the staff.

It is inside Tiger reserve and without confirmed booking they won't allow inside.

I wont search for another place for stay in thekkady. Me and my family is fully satisfied especially with thier customer service. The rooms are very good for this budget and they keep it clean. There is so much to explore natures beauty within the area. Dont miss a walk through the forest which is allowed only before 5: 30 in the evening.

Great budget choice for experiencing the forest. We went there as a group of 20-25 people including kids. As it’s a group booking, we got rooms for 2100 with complimentary breakfast. I think we were the only guests they were having on that day. So we were able to select the jungle view rooms in the first floor. Rooms and toilets were furnished well. Hot water mixing taps were working well. Sanitary kits and towels were provided. There restaurant was little bit expensive. So we took our food from outside. Complimentary breakfast was so good. Idly, puttu, steamed banana, boiled egg, bread, cornflakes, tea, juice… staff was extremely helpful, especially the reservation manager Binny was trying to help me all the way as he could do.
Porcupines are the regular visitors of the place. They were friendly too. Monkeys were the only problem there. But again the staff were always protecting us from those crazy monkeys. So you are advised to keep your doors closed during the day time and only one window is openable as it has additional protective grills. And one more thing: here the entry restricted from 6.00pm to 6.00 am. Overall it was such a nice experience. We all enjoyed the pleasant stay here. I will definitely recommend this place.

Good experience with accommodation inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The restaurant provides decent food at cheaper rates. The disadvantages are: Monkey attack if you are not careful and cannot go out of the compound after 5 PM. One day stay would be more advisable. We did not get a bed Frage for our Extra bed because the frame was damaged.

Best home stay in thekkady. Very costumer friendly, good ambience and clean rooms.

Thankyou Periyar house for the immense treat.i have no plans to stay there for more than a day but due to the terrible climate i have to continue there for 2 days. The days were pretty good and I get a homely atmosphere.staffs were too good.thanking aswin for the immense treat. The resort provides clean and tidy rooms at a reasonable price. Its a great place to spend with family in the middle of the jungle.
The staff were very benovelent and kind and took lot of effort to help those guests stranded there due to recent landslides.really enjoyed the stay.hats off to the periyar resort team

We (a group consisting of 18 adults & 2 children) went there for a 1 day stay on 15.10.21. We had to extend our stay due to harsh weather, heavy rainfall & landslides. The staff there were very good to us. They made us feel like home by providing food & shelter to all of us at a pretty reasonable rate. They could have easily exploited our helpless situation ; but they have impressed us by taking care of us like a family. They were genuinely concerned about our safety & comfort. The food served was good too. The stay in the midst of a jungle was full of fun, adventure & chills. The overrall experience does deserve a whole hearted applause from each one if us. Thank you!)

I had a great holiday here for three days with my son and husband. The cleanliness, ambience and hospitality were unbeatable. Food was good. Even the house keeping staff were cordial, prompt and sincere. Staff especially Mr Scaria and Mr Saaju had gone extra mile to make us feel at home. They were always there to guide us on how to enjoy the holidays safely and without disturbing the animals in the forest.children's park there was well maintained. Lawns were well trimmed hence no fear of any reptiles or insects.well lit, hence children could enjoy for more time even after sunset. Thank you so much team KTDC @ Periyar house

It was a wonderful experience at Periyar house stay with my family.
We have spotted sambar deer, bonnet macaque, Nilgiri langur, Malabar giant squirrel, wild boar, and Gaur from the nearby surrounding's.
The staffs are very much cooperative and fine arrangements including boating.
Food was nice but quantity was not upto expectation.
We can see a lot of monkeys there but for our safety never entertain them by feeding.

A peaceful place to stay from a city life, will able to see porcupine and some wild deers. Morning walk besides this resort is blissful, they will also arrange tickets for the boat safari. On looking into food, not much tasty for their prices. Need to checkin before 5.00pm as entry will restricted after that by the forest officers.

Pros:
Excellent ambience, family friendly, safety inside reserve forest. Hospitality is good.
Cons:
Food is costly but affordable, you will not have a second option because the resort is deep inside the forest. Take a extra care on monkeys, they will steal your things.

Nice family place to hang out in the serenity of nature. Economical room rents but not the in house restaurant. Its very costly as compared to the room rent, 250 Rs + tax for breakfast and 500 Rs + tax for dinner. Watch out for the monkeys, they will steal anything from you, especially bags. Its good to go to Jenis grapes (Theni) farm if you want to take couple of photos at a vineyard, if you are going to vineyard dont forget to check out 99 Store just opposite to Jenis Grapes, export rejected dresses at low price

We stayed at KTDC, Periyarhouse, Thekkady on 23/01/21.we take 3 rooms. Mr Binni welcome us so pleasantly & give good service. He arrange boat ticket for evening trip itself. Food really nice. Overall very good experience. Staffs are so cooperative.

A place to relieve all your stress in the middle of Periyar Tiger Reserve. Affordable prices. Great Hospitality assured, Well mannered staffs. Foods are served hot, ensuring taste and cleanliness. All rooms has a window that opens to the forest or garden. Rooms are Well maintained with pleasing housekeeping.
Those who wish to opt a calm and pleasant stay inside the forest premises do go for it. Assured boating tickets, through the periyar lake.

Calm and serene. Spacious rooms and OK service. You got that minimum guarantee from ktdc.
One big turn off is that there is no option given to take part in night treks organised by forest dept itself citing gate closure at 6pm. It's something 2 govt agencies can sort out easily between them. Redtapism so evident!

The place is good for a day or 2s trip. Food is good and the stay can be given 4 out of 5. We could see wild boar, sambar deer, black gaint squirrel, black monkeys and porcupine there. Enjoyed the experience.

Nice place to stay with friends and family. Good food, staff and people. The best part is they have wonderful swings, play area and we had nice play recreation with our son.
