It's costly. I wish they had some comparatively smaller package. But it's worth the money we spend. Preferably go there in the early morning so that you can actually enjoy the boat ride and scenery.

Fun experience with the Poovar boating full package. Boating staff was friendly and helped with disabled person. Boating through Mangroves+Birds+Beach+Sangam of Lake, River and Sea.

It's a must do activity on ur kerala tour. They provide many options but 1 hours is the best. As it's same route only the speed of the boat is differ to fullfill more hours. Boats are clean. Luck if ur boat rider provides more inform on the birds spice and culture.

This is one of the best boat rides I have experienced in Trivandrum, Kerala. The route has a mix of mangrove trees, villages, backwater, sea, different varieties of birds. Add ons were drinking coconut water in the middle of the boating followed by a delicious lunch in the floating restaurant, it had everything we could ask for. Would definitely recommend this for friends and family.

The pricing was reasonable and the whole journey lasted for over 2.5 hours.

This place is must visit. I had an amazing experience herw. The staff is very supportive and rate is reasonable.

Not worth for the money at all. The local taxi guy and the advisor gave the good hype to gets their commission. 5500 for 1.30 hr and around 2000 for food for a family (5 people). When i went alappy for 9000 we 6 people stayed there for 20 hr in boathouse include 2+ hr ride with 3 times meal.

A really worth boat ride charging Rs 750 for 90 minutes per head journey through coconut groove, poovar golden sand beach. The beach has high depth so not allowed to swim.

A very enjoyable and unique experience and one of the best backwater trips in Kerala where one can sail through the mangrove forests and towards the Golden Sand Beach which is an estuary between the Neyyar River and the Arabian Sea.

There are three floating restaurants in the route offering delicious seafood dishes, though at an exorbitant price. Bird lovers can also enjoy the sights of various indigenous birds in their natural habitats during the cruise, specially during the evening.

There is also a rock shaped like an elephant in the middle of the river and a statue of Mother Mary with Baby Jesus.

Our boat driver was also a very gentleman and guided us very well throughout the trip.

Lovely experience. A must do thing which one realises by seeing the amount of boat going around. Its a small 7 seater boat which takes you through the back waters and mangrove small creeks.

One of the experiences which u get at few places. Sangam point is also good given the energy that the waves bring.

Actually initially it was not planned but it was an awesome experience to cruise the backwater. Staff was friendly and relaxing boating experience even though the mangrove seems to have toxic fruits as well as snakes. Boating itself is completely safe.

Lovely back waters boating. We took a 4 seater boat. They asked for 6000. We bargained and finished the deal for 2500. Go during the noon time. You'll love it.

Good experience in the back water travel which comes with a bit of expenses as well.it will cost around 1.5k per person for four persons. Food is in separate restaurant which would cost extra.

Nice place for boat ride.but do bargain for ride cost there are many boat ride provider. It's Around 2k to 2.5k for 1.5 hr for single boat Or you book online with better bargain. I paid 4500 n then got to know that cost I paid was too high.

You know what, the guy operating boat gets just 100 per tour that he takes. Sucks for him. The 'company' takes the max cut, their boats, so they take the full amount. Tourist scam!

Boating is okay, good. Goes between trees, you spot 3 or 4 diff types of birds! They take you till the shore and also show where the backwaters meet the sea! You can't get down!
The statues of mother Mary, elephant rock is overrated! OOH also the floating hotel rooms, the driver will just cruise by! Nothing much to see there!

The floating resturant that they take you too is wayyy overpriced! Probably this driver gets a cut from our orders! Don't bother eating there!

When we went, monsoon, July month, the whole beach was closed. We weren't allowed into the water. And we could not even walk to the point where the backwaters meet the shore. Too bad, coz that was the only place I like in the whole thing. Its like cops and life guards fence (yes fence with rope) the whole area, and your are not allowed beyond that. And boats will park in that space only. So you can just get on the sand, walk around, there's camel ride and overpriced coconuts that you can drink.

I'd suggest finding a shore close by poovar and if you are allowed enjoy the water there!

Poovar is a tourist town in Neyyattinkara (tehsil) in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala state, South India. This village is almost at the southern tip of Thiruvananthapuram while the next village, Pozhiyoor, marks the end of Kerala. This village beach attracts tourists throughout the year.

Poovar was a trading centre of timber, sandalwood, ivory and spices. It is believed that ships owned by King Solomon of Israel landed in Ophir, which is identified by some sources as Poovar, [3][4] The village was one of the ancient Muslim settlements along the western coast of India. The central mosque in Poovar was built by Malik Deenar, an eighth century Muslim preacher. During the reign of the Chola dynasty, Poovar was a major port. The explorer Megasthenes, Roman writer Pliny the Elder and Venetian traveller Marco Polo mention connections with Greece and Rome.

There were a merchant named Pokku Moosa Maraikkar who lived in Poovar during the 18th century in a house called Kallaraickal Tharavad, which many times gave shelter to Marthanda Varma (1706–58), king of Travancore from his enemies. Poovar also had trade relations with international markets at this time as well as a well trained army and some ships. At the Battle of Colachel and Battle of Kayamkulam these forces assisted the Travancore army against the Dutch East India Company during the Travancore–Dutch War.

The origin of the name "Poovar" has a story related to Marthanda Varma. Before that it was called Pokkumoosapuram. During internal riots in Travancore and while escaping from the Ettuveetil Pillamar (Lords of the Eight Houses), the king reached Poovar. It was a spring season and the trees on either sides of the Neyyar were full of flowers. These flowers fell into the river making it more attractive. On seeing this pleasant scenery, Marthanda Varma commented that this was poo-var, a conjunction of the Malayalam words for "flower" and "river".

Good place to visit in Kerala. You can see floating restaurants in Poovar backwater. Also, there is a golden beach in it and beautiful view of beach. At the end, there is a point from where Tamil nadu starts. In other words, you will get to see the kerala and tamil nadu border.

I have booked online through their website and the price is very nominal, 1.2k for 4 of us. The backwater ride took 1.5 hrs and we got down in the middle to see the neyyar river merging in the sea.

Very nice experience.please visit before cutting pozhi.we can see beautiful scenery while boating.different types of boats are here. Also seen floating restaurants, So we can buy and eat foods or drinks during boating. Now there is a small restrictions for boating because of covid. Must take covid vaccine, 4 person per boat, must wearing mask etc.

Very beautiful experience. They allowed our dog beagle and even he enjoyed a lot. The tour guide explained every detail properly and it was quite exciting. They gave enough time and did not hurry the trip at all. The whole family enjoyed.

Location of the beach is good but not maintained well. One of the dirtiest beaches seen so far.

They dont allow to step into beach. And Its better to go there in summer season. Because in rainy seasons boating is too dangerous

Beautiful beach.but it's also dangerous. Many accidents happen very often. Boating is Rs 700 here for one boat. If you are not a local, they may charge upto 1500 Rs. Don't pay anything more than 800Rs for boating.

The next time you visit Kovalam, do visit the Puvar island which is just about 20 kms away. The golden beach is absolutely picturesque and a visual treat for photographers. 

The water is almost blue, aquamarine, and turquoise in colour depending on the sun’s position. Though not as popular as the Kovalam Beach, this place should definitely be on your list. It can get isolated and sometimes you may be on the receiving end of untoward behaviour but it’s definitely not dangerous. You will have a lot of fishermen for company and sometimes you get to see the real fisherman action too. A great spot to click some breathtaking images of the sea and the backwaters.

Nice place to visit with family. Here you can see both sea and river. It's a place of joining sea and river. Boating facilities are available. Resort also available.but entrance (car) of resort is from in between poovar and uchakada.

Beautiful golden beaches. But people have polluted the sands with garbage and plastic bottles.

It was nice experience, as a first time visitor it was calm and silent place.peoples prefer to visit in the evening. Pozhiyoor is a beautiful village in the district of Thiruvananthapuram in the State of Kerala in India. It has gradually grown to a well known tourist destination in India. The major attractions of Poovar tourism area are in Pozhiyoor. Pozhikkara, eaustary formed by river Neyyar before it falls into the mighty Arabian Sea is the centre of attraction of tourism circuit in Poovar. Golden Beach, Elephant Rock, Anantha Victoria Marthanda Varma Canal, Pieta are other major attractions in Pozhiyoor Beach area in Thiruvananthapuram. It is the at the coastal border of the Indian states of Kerala and border of tamil nadu . The other attractive thing is backwater boating is there there is a one hour boating time and almost they will show 5 to 6 different locations and cover 4 to 5 KM. I've said above it is a coastal boarder of kerala and tamilnadu, the major highlight is the majority of peoples who lived in these area are Christians.
It's a nice place to beautify our evenings.one more thing those who are coming with childrens please take care them because the the waves are strong now, same as the other beaches kerala all seasonal issues are here also so if you planning to come here please cross check the news or some other wheather this season is perfect to visit Pozhiyoor or not. This beach is famous for it's golden sand.that's why it also called golden beach as well.you can be here using boat, which is quite expensive side per person for 1 hour takes 600Rs, for 1.5 hour 900Rs and 2 hours they charge 1200 Rs.

Per boat you can seat 8 person.boats are speed boats but it runs very slow so you can enjoy the ride as well.

A nice place to visit. Beach with golden sands, floating restaurants, horse riding, boating etc. A trip through the estuaries of poovaar really mimic Amazon forests. Rich pool of mangroves. Boating is bit coastly still worthy enough. Children will really enjoy the floors and fauna. The beach is is clean and hygienically maintained.

Beach with lots of potential, but very littered and poorly maintained. Backwater cruises around here are nice though.

Morning 6: 30am the fishing boats will come to shore. If you reach their by 7 or 7: 30 am, you will be able to get quality cheap fish.

Very beautiful.there is mesmerizing view all around. It is very nearer to the Kovalam beach but you need to hire a car to reach the bank of the river where from the tour begins with the board, on the way you can watch beautiful sight seeing. The sand of the beach looks like gold so the name comes.
