POOVAR ISLAND RESORT:
Located in the heart of KERALA, Poovar Island Resort stands tall at Kulathoor, Kerala. Its central positioning offers easy connectivity to major attractions, transport hubs, and dining options, making it a prime choice for travelers, Mainly foreigners.
RECEPTION AREA & STAFF:
Upon arrival, the reception area exuded elegance with its elegant decor and a welcoming ambiance. The staff at the front desk were exceptionally courteous, efficiently handling check-in procedures with a warm demeanour.
STAY DETAILS:
I stayed at Poovar Island Resort for three days for an outbound training programme. The purpose of my stay was to know about communication and interpersonal relationships in a working place.
STAFF ATTITUDE & BEHAVIOR:
Throughout my stay, the staff displayed commendable professionalism, always ready to assist with any queries or requests. Their friendly attitude and prompt service added to the overall pleasant experience.
AMENITIES:
The hotel boasts an impressive array of amenities including a swimming pool, a relaxing spa, and a stylish restaurant bar offering panoramic views of the sea. The rooms were clean and furnished with modern amenities for convenience.
POSITIVE ASPECTS:
• Impeccable cleanliness and maintenance • Convenient location with easy access to transport with their boats • Well-appointed rooms with modern amenities • Diverse range of amenities catering to various needs
Negatives, if any: While my stay was largely enjoyable, minor issues like occasional Wi-Fi connectivity fluctuations were noticed. However, these did not significantly impact the overall experience.
Recommendation: I highly recommend POOVAR ISLAND RESORT for its location, excellent service, and comprehensive amenities. Whether for business or leisure, this hotel provides a comfortable and convenient stay experience.

Did spent a say at the resort with their day package. Location is very nice. Well maintained and courteous staff. Food was delicious, plenty in quantity as well.

Location is wonderful however the resort is not well maintained. The decor, the furniture is outdated. There were lots of mosquitoes, insects, lizards in the room. On complaining, they will just send a person for pest control. Service was Okayish. Had to remind multiple times for the same ask.

The jacuzzi was broken from many sides and the water was leaking from it.

Food was good. Overall, not worth the cost.

Excellent everything except the toilet facilities. Defective flushing, leaking commode sprays - even after changing the room from 107 to 245. That's a spoiler in an otherwise admirable location, ambience and service. Management should pay special attention to this problem. An amazing island resort accessible only via boat. Breakfast buffet is good and kids enjoyed the pool.

It is truly "out of the world". It was a great experience with Poovar Iskand resort.

Boats were arranged from the parking area to the resort. Only beer and wine available in the resort. Large conference hall available for meetings. Need one day for sight seeing and activities inside the resort

The property is in a very picturesque place. So no complaints on that but otherwise the overall service given that it is 5 star hotel, it was way too pathetic. The restaurant, the reception, the room service everything is very slow. Room dining experience was very bad. Cold food, very less quantity of food and food instructions given not taken care of. The same thing had to be repeated 3- 4 times for them to take action on it. The only reason the hotel is still in service is because of its location else for the service they are currently giving and the money they are charging for the food, the property should have been shut much before. Can't say if I would ever like to come and stay or even recommend them to the family or friends. Extremely dissappointed

Food Serving time at Restaurant of 45 Minutes for Ala Carta, it's like give order and then go roaming resorts.

I started in this backwater resort on Sep29,2022. The cottage they gave had comode leakage when i found it at later half of the day the front desk lady told me tht i i c just sleep in other room and keep my luggage here. Which i i didnt accept as it ws late evening.
Coming to food if you take ala carte menu it didnt taste well and importantly it was COLD.
THE COMPLEMENTARY EVENING WAS TOO COLD. ON SAYING THEY SAID IT WILL BE LIKE THT.
The LIGHT OUTSIDE MY COTTAGE WAS NOT IN WORKING CONDITION. HOWEVER AFTER MANY FOLLOW UP IT WORKED.
However on complain THE MANAGER MR VINOD OFFERED 2000 RS DISCOUNT ON FOOD AND ROOM.
SO IF YOU BOOK 8000 IF U WL GET 1000 OFF.
SO 7000 I GOT THIS EXCELLENT SERVICE

Booked this resort directly through the number mentioned in their website. The guy responsible for booking was lethargic and poorly responsive. Did not feel like I was booking a resort room, felt like booking a ticket at a railway counter. If anyone is planning to book this resort better to book via online booking platforms. Other than that everything was fine. Good resort with scenic sorroundings. Rooms were well maintained. Buffet was good.

Had a good time.its inside the island you have to get there by boat.rooms are warm and cozy.has pool.there are spaces for arranging a getogether.nice place for a getaway.there is also boat service.the food from there was certainly delicious.rooms might be expensive but still there is play space for kids, a lot to walk around.its very close to nature.birdwatching is possible if u go by boat in the morning.overall its a good experience

They boast they are 4 star but the service and the room that we were put up was the worst. Bathrooms were small and dingy. We had to ask for tissues, hairdryer and bathroom slippers. It was not provided unless we asked for it.
A 3-star hotel provides better rooms, room service and amenities.
Overall the service of the staff was the worst. Not at all guest friendly. Play area for kids closes by 7 pm, while as guests things to do inside the property becomes active post 7pm.
The restaurant price was exorbitant and since you are stuck in this property, you have no other option but to eat in their restaurant.
Please don't bother to waste money booking here.take a day cruise.enjoy the places during day and just escape from their property for the night

Boat rides are deeply discounted. Do not hesitate to bargain. 2 hour ride is recommended to cover. Warning: The floating restaurants are best avoided. As restaurant owner are well aware that even after serving poor quality of food, worst cooking, tasteless food causing severe food poisoning Tourists will not be able to come back to question them. Try natural coconut water, raw mangoes etc on the beach.

A complete surprise in terms of location and general layout. Very beautiful resort and well maintained cottage rooms. The ayurvedic centre is one of the most authentic one which I came across in my journey through kerala. A must visit for family vacations.

I went there during October 2021 for my mother's colleagues meetup. You will be arranged a boat journey to the resort. The resort is well maintained with lawns and plants and it was beautiful out there. You can just see the lake and beach together. There are lot of picture spots and floating cottages. Further in, you can see restaurants, conference hall, swimming pools, lunch halls etc. There are 2 pools in the resort but its not private pool. The food is served as buffet and includes a wode variety of traditional, chinese and continental dishes. There is also boat rides to nearby mangrove forest to the dwellers. It's a very nice spot to spend the weekend with family.

Amazing location with an amazing view.
Best for day outs. You can chill around the beach amidst the coconut trees and backwater.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Since food is served as buffet you may not like all the dishes, but indeed certain dishes were good.
Overall a good experience. Will surely love to visit again.

Nice resort. Staff behaviour little rude. Especially the pool attends. They are not respect religious beliefs. If you are wearing Islamic dress code (even it is nylon/pool friendly) they may deny the access. Food is an average. Ambience is excellent.

Only Ambience was good boat to hotel was very good expirience but in hotel every thing was not up to mark in bathroom no hot water room fridge was not working room service reception all service taking too much long time but food was good. Overall not satisfied as expected

Visited this place many times within the past few years. With each visit I’m feeling that the quality of service is going downhill. The property is in a good location and the boat trip to the resort was a memorable one. Apart from that everything else was very bad. Food was too bad and I never had such bad food from any other resorts before. The boat dock wasn’t clean and a few of the floating villas were in a state of drowning.

Beautiful resort. Food was also good. Bit all the activities shown on site are not available at all times. So check before you book.

What went well: Good ambience. Boating service. Food is good.
What went wrong: They lack proffessionalism in customer dealing. We opted day outing at the resort. We spent almost half an hour waiting in the front office unattended by any staff. We had to enquire many times with other house keeping staff available there, before someone turned up finally after a long wait.
Note: Apart from the poor customer management, their food and amenities such as swimming pool/indoor games are good.

Stayed at this place, wonderfull stay, this place is very large which gives you your private time where you can spend with your loved ones.

Loved the hospitality of the staff. Stunning place with a really beautiful stay. If you wanna have drinks here, be ready to pay a hefty price which is very much understandable since the place is located on an island. Food is decent here. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a break from their day to day life.

A Combined boating and resort experience with good food. Lunch buffet was Rs. 650 per head and Dinner buffet Rs. 750 per head including taxes. Staff also polite. They also give a complimentary boat ride to beach.

The property seems to be unmaintained. The rest room need a proper maintenance. The lawns are not properly maintained.
The staffs are (not everyone) not very friendly or laking of quality service. The welcome drink served us in an unprofessional way. No satisfaction interms of hospitality.
Food is okay-okay but nothing exceptional to say.
It was raining while we are departing and we asked for an umbrella, just to reach the boat station, the answer was very much disappointed as the staff said there is no umbrella with them. So we got a chance to enjoy the rain even though we are not interested! Because there are no other options available!
The guys in the pickup point station were good and friendly.
Note that the boat trip between the resort and pickup station is not covid safe, especially of it is raining.
Staffs and the boys there, please fit atleast an artificial smile in your face, that would make someone happy!
It felt us the staffs doesn't have any proper guidelines. They doing something without any interest.

The room was okay and spacious. Decent furniture and basic complemtary supplied. But the linen and towels are not well washed.

Overall, the location is amazing and great ambiance. The management should improve the quality of service and ensure the timely maintenance.
Tip: if you are a fan of tea, please.don't take the evening tea by any mistake. Its horrible

A good family destination. Really enjoyed the calm greenery ambiance they provides and must appreciate the efforts to keep the entire resort area so neat and organized.

Excellent property. Peaceful atmosphere. Quality service. Affordable price. Totally isolated and have a large area for walking and chill-out. Evenings are more beautiful with a sunset view and sound of the sea. Really a good place to carry the children, families and also the grand parents.

One the most fantastic and marvelous places in Trivandrum. I can wholeheartedly say you guys do a fantastic job in hospitality and client care systems. The floating cottages are a must stay in the whole wide property. Poovar island resort is must visit place in Trivandrum.

Property is good.food also better.but service is poor especially the front desk takes lot of time to allocate the room.we waited there for about 30_40 min, same happened during checkout also. The washroom near the resturant is not maintained properly.

Serene place. Stayed in floating cottage which was different experience. Property has lots of premises which is quite well maintained without much disruption to its natural beauty. Direct sea view from floating cottage. Food is high priced with not a load of variety. Overall nice experience.

It’s a great escape place for people in Trivandrum. As the name suggest its an Island resort and the onward journey to resort in boat is amazing after leaving your car in the parking area. Huge and silent place with coconut palms, backwaters, sunset and squirrels (I could find them everywhere). May be a bit on the expensive side but ideal place who can afford three to four thousand and depending on the season it may increase or decrease. The hotel sponsored trip to the Poovar beach is also a great experience. Food may be on the expensive side, but cannot say it was bad.

The whole experience is unique. Starting with the boat transfer where you are taken to a private island with the resort.

The rooms were fantastic. Had a nice time in the Jaccuzzi and in the floating cottage. We can feel the waters in the floating cottage as it moves around.

Due to Covid-19, the swimming pool is closed and I wouldn’t recommend the beach as it is used by the locals in that area.

Apart from those, we had a nice walk around the resort, good food, great staff and overall a fantastic experience.

Park car at entrance - have a nice boat ride enjoying backwater-birdwatching with an amazing view of sea and sand.
Neat and tidy environment gives a great vibe - you feel the stress going out immediately.
Amenities and things to do, well name it and you find here - beach, indoor/outdoor games, park, walking area, Backwater, mangrove forest: just loved it here.

Beautiful nature friendly destination for day out and stay. Property is big so you can find your own private space to enjoy with your family or team. Food is excellent. Staffs are all customer friendly. Aminities are all up to the standards. Resort is near an estuary where karamana river Mets Arabian sea so the sand bar view is beautiful. Boats are arranged by the resort as part of transportation (40 minutes both side) so can be utilized free of cost. I spend 2 days with my family and enjoyed a lot.

We were a group of 6.we had booked 2 rooms for 6k each. The resort is located in an island and a boat ride is available from the parking space to the resort free of cost. There is a security guard in the parking areas to look after the cars parked there.it takes about 20 mins by boat to reach the resort. We reached there by about 4 o clock. Outdoor games like cricket, football, frisbee etc were available. We can also have access to a beach nearby by boat, but the last boat available would leave back by 5 pm which is disappointing as the beach would be scorching hot before 5 pm. There are also indoor games available like chess, carroms and pool. But the pool was chargeable at rs 150 per half n hour which is ridiculous. We were offered buffet dinner but later at night they said only ala carte was available as there were only few guests. It also took them more than an hour to serve the order. The quality of the food was also average. Morning breakfast buffet was available and it had a decent spread and quality. Overall the resort was spacious with vast lawns, seating areas, kids area etc. Floating villas were also available. The pool was inaccessible due to covid restrictions.overall the staff behavior has to be improved. Also they asked us to rate them on makemytrip site after which they offered us 20% discount for buffet.

It was very good experience in this resort. All surroundings are environment friendly. All staff approaches are very friendly and co operative. Especially Mr. Max was very good guide for us. They are providing foods are very delicious
and neat. Thank you for ur all staffs. Hopefully we are planning for one more visit.

Good view, Above average food, Good services, Clean and tidy rooms. We stayed in floating cottage and the view outside is mesmerizing. Outdoor and indoor activities are not up to the mark. Overall a good place to spend with your family. Worthy experience but little expensive.

5 star for staffs courtesy. A very well maintained property. Has a very clean beach nearby which can be accessed by boat. All together a good experience.will visit with family soon!

Its a wnderful weekend. The resort was placed in a amazing location, thats why we can enjoy pure nature and peaceful. The resort had a good structure on its way. The people who visit here will never forgot the experience.

Management lacks the authority and power
Already in covid you don’t get free itinerary and services provided by the hotel and they provide you paid services that too like high charges for bad cycles twisted seat cycles and non breaking cycle and billiards table already when no one is using and you put high charges so no one can use
Things like this looks good in game zone in malls not in big resorts like this
Water in tap is always very less every time you go for shower you need to call the front desk and they will switch on motor
And at the end you don’t get the luggage carrying facility also boat person refuses to carry the luggage and you need to carry your luggage you can see cockroaches and mosquitoes inside the room too

We travelled together with other two families. We opted the floating cottage and they opted the land cottage.
We opted for the floating cottage,
It is one of the costliest rooms they have.
1. They dont have wifi for the floating cottage.
2. Water dispense hole at the shower area bring up the dirt smell while taking a shower.
3. AC stopped working at 12 midnight. We had to ask them to come and fix the AC.
4. We were asked shift to a land cottage from the floating cottage at 12.15 midnight. We had to pack every thing and get to the new cottage. After getting settled in there and was getting some sleep at last, Some one called us from reception asking if the room was comfy.
My wife was totally irritated already and asked them like “can you guys let us sleep in peace please”.
5. We asked for iron box and the one provided wasn't working.
6.balcony was not cleaned properly.

About our friend’s cottage. One was not clean. The clothes used in the cradle was dirty.
Flesh wasn't working properly in the washing area.
And finally adding to that AC wasn't working. We fought with the staffs and they have given them another land cottage that is a lil premium than the opted one (which has Jacuzzi).

Breakfast was okay.
Dinner we did ala carte. The beef curry and beef coconut fry I found it as a tamil masala flavor though they told its the kerala style (is used more in the dishes)
butter chicken chicken was nice and the mutter pulav was nice.
The boat trip from the parking to the hotel is scenic and excellent. The place is excellent and clean. It was the bad service and the facilities that made the experience worse.

The first experience was very poor.transportation to the island through boat delayed.we waited in the resort about 1 hour.no responsible management.

Ideal place for a laid back vacation, great location, spacious rooms. They should look into the food quality for the rates charged.

Very good location and ambience. Excellent place to stay. Customer friendly and disciplined staff. Good food.

Location and overall ambience of the property is nice. Compared to other resorts in Poovar, this one has more area outdoors. The main attraction is activity area in front of the resort. Walkway to lobby and Pool area is also beautiful. Kids play area and adventure park is not well maintained. Indoor activity area is kind of ok. There is an option to visit beach from resort. Please opt it only if you are a beach person. Otherwise there is enough area in resort itself to explore.

Coming to room, the building is pretty old and is not well maintained. E.g bedsheet and bed had stains on it, table lamp was rusty, wall had termites marks. And it was like they dumped extra pillows in the room. Bathroom was not clean. Overall maintenance was not impressive. They dont have wifi in room. AC was noisy.

Restaurant was ok. Food was tasty. If you are having dinner from restaurant, please order upfront. There is a waiting period of 45 minutes minimum.

Poovar Estuary Island resort has an island with a beach and the Arabian Sea beyond, an estuary giving way to a lake and subsequently, the Poovaru (river). There is a vantage point upfront with recliners from where all of them form part of one panoramic view. The island is sandy for the most part (land reclaimed and silted) and looks over to the lake on one side, the sea on the other. There are fishing hamlets at the far end of the island amidst the backdrop of the coconut groves that abound in Kerala. There are boats that ferry people from the resort to the island and the boat-jetty is operational 24 hours if prior notice is given. Near the boat-jetty is Seaweed, the seafood restaurant. It was in shambles during our visit. There is a shop for curios, souvenirs and the like. Hammocks are hoisted up here and there en route to the resort. The restaurant serving food buffet style is the food centre and the culinary highlight of the trip for me is curry leaves drink for breakfast.

The evening we checked in at Poovar we (mother, sister and I) are spectators to a great flocking and flight of crows out of a thickly forested island. Their appearance in huge numbers makes the forest seem a cauldron; their cawing is all that can be heard. Against the sky, they seem like black strips of paper flapping and flying about. In moments, they are gone.

Were restaurant was empty, We had order 5 items for takeaway for lunch we receive only four items without salad and pickles nd the food was very cold at 12 pm, very poor experience from such a restaurant

Good place to take a break. The morning boat ride was simply superb. Got to see a lot of birds. Great stay, great food and service was real good.

Good location but poor staff and service. Food takes more than 45 minutes to come and on my birthday, they misplaced my cake too. Very irresponsible and pathetic management.

Atleast you must try once in ur life. Worth for money. Service is bad so better take all things before checkin

No proper intercom facility! And they charge us ₹1500 for boat to go out for dinner if we want to go! And even if buy outside food they dont give plates to eat! They also dont give new mugs to drink coffee in room if we used it! They will snd a person to to wash and give! And they lie about the service they dont want to provide! Like spa is closed all over the state as per government norms!

When it comes to food. It's a completely different story. A average fair, I am being generous, limited variety. Do note I stuck to the buffet

Breathtaking beauty. My first ever experience of taking a boat to get to the resort. Very courteous staff. One shall plan to buy enough eatables/Snacks before going to the resort to save some money

Decent place to chill with friends and family.
Food is tastes very okayish but is expensive.
Paid Boating was the only enjoyable part.
Also it has a lot of beautiful sceneries to capture

Started in 2000.very well furnished deluxe rooms Ayurvedic spa treatment; gymnasium kids play station motorboat riding super swimming pool fine fine nv. Veg.restaurant are available at reasonable rate. Package and individual rates are available. Worth visiting. Super hospitality.

The Golden sand beach is one of the most amazing views you will see. You can hear the sound of waves even before reaching the place. And as this comes in sight, you can see the amazing waves hitting the sands and going so high.

On the sand you feel like you are a on a very small island with water all around. One side you have the serene calm water and the other side sea is raging madly.

The good: Right from when you get on a boat and pass through serene backwaters to reach the hotel, your mind starts relaxing. The check in process was good and the staff were lovely. We stayed in a floating cottage and the room was very cozy with warm lights and a comfortable bed.
The food was better than average but not too great. It's a big property and you can walk around, rent cycles or do a yoga session.
Definitely take the boat to cross over to Poovar beach to spend an evening looking at the sunset
The bad: It's location is so aloof that you won't have an option to go anywhere else or even eat anywhere else. You are kind of stuck in the hotel. The view fron the floating cottage was disappointing, you see a beach which is used by locals and it's not very clean. The water infront of the cottage may look clean or very dirty depending on the tides of the sea. Luckily on one of the days there was a high tide and we saw both the sides. The poovar beach doesn't have a shack or a place to sit, so you can just expect to do a walk in the evening.
Covid norms in the restaurant were not followed. The tables were put up very close to each other so we ended by ordering room service all the time and the service was good

Beautiful island, white sands. Sea water on both sides of the way we walk.the floating restaurants are very nice to sit and eat.

It's worst resort and poor service, we a team of 11 members went there, no food quality and no big entertainment around resort. It's waste of time and wish others try avoiding this place!

My stay with family was a nice and memorable one on 29th Dec 2020 - room was spacious and good - food was good - very professional and friendly staff - Highly recommend this property

Good food and atmosphere. Pathetic front office service.

We stayed for two days during Christmas 2020. Front office lady staff behaviour was pathetic. No one was there to correct a telephone even after multiple follow ups. Had to call the mobile numbers for each service.

Resort had good play area for kids. Food was really good and buffet was affordable and value for money. Room service and restaurant service was good. Careless attitude from front office just spoiled the entire impression. Since we reached at 1.30 pm after a long drive, I asked for a welcome drink which is nothing special. But the front office person told they are doing contact less service and no welcome drink can be provided. Even though I told we are tired and a drink would have been perfect, she did not even offer a glass of water from the restaurant.

Beautiful place.different experience. The backwater cruise through the tributaries of Neyyar river is highly recommended.

Totally useless stay useless staff. People should stop going to this property ur Totally dependent on the staff and the staff is Totally pathetic. They don't know how to talk we got late for the airport because of them and they don't pick up the call instead of again and again requesting them as they only said boat will leave by 8 30 am and boat left at 9 am we got late. Poovar beach is a beautiful beach and relatively clean. Having said that, one can easily see what humans do in their capacity to dirty any place they visit. The water is blue, and the waves and breeze just keep you relaxed and cool. Definitely worth a visit!
