Reds Residency - Homestay -

Location was good. Rooms were fair. No complem offered you can pay 200-400 Rs.for breakfast if desired. No bottled water provided in the room you had to ask the host for water if wanted. Major issue with mosquitoes host needs to fumigate periodically to lessen their presence. Bathroom floor mat would be appreciated to avoid slipping and sliding on wet floor after shower. Shared kitchen doesn’t have hot water kettle to make coffee or tea. You always had to message the host when any water was needed and host was often very slow responding. Difficulty getting hot water to turn on in the shower, even after host gave explicit instructions. Road in front of Homestay busy and a lot of traffic 24/7. Major disappointment Host, unaccommodating, not very helpful, reluctant and not FRIENDLY.messaged Host about leaving key and departure time and Host didn’t bother to respond or come wish us a safe journey nor thanked us for staying at their place. Stayed 4 nights and totally disappointed. NOT RECOMMENDED!
Update: Host just responded (10 mins) after reading my review here on Google and included an emoji gritting her teeth saying (thank you for staying)

Beware of scam

At first everything was fine. The room was clean. The trouble started when we asked to have our laundry cleaned. We were surprised with a $25 bill for a bag of clothes, which we thought was excessive.

We explained our dissatisfaction to the young girl at the guest house to find a solution. Unfortunately, she was contemptuous and dishonest. We recognized that there had been a misunderstanding, but she refused to listen to our explanations and continued to look down on us.
In summary, this seems to be a scam for tourists. There are probably better guest houses and more reasonably priced laundry services in the area.

Good place to explore Fort Kochi and stay in clean, comfortable rooms. The hosts are warm and helpful with queries about what is available in the area. Breakfast was an added charge, but was worth it in terms of quality and quantity. The only downside for me was not having a kettle and teabags to make my own tea. Carry your travel kettle, friends, and you will have joined all the dots.

It is nice home stay, but rooms looks bigger on the photos and WiFi and breakfast is not in the price so things ad up and price is higher than you think on the first moment. Family is very nice, breakfast is great, location is convinent for Forth Kochi.

A gorgeous home stay with kind, helpful and caring staff. They will go out of their way to help and make your stay great. A beautiful atmosphere in the flowers and the balcony is gorgeous to chill at.

Everything you couple possibly wish for in a homestay in Fort Cochin. Philip, Maryann and Melissa could not have done more for us, not only with their hospitality and service, fine rooms and breakfast etc, but also in being extremely helpful in arranging accommodation elsewhere in Kerala, in short notice, for a family trip of a week, as well as helpful tips on activities in the city; this was all enormously appreciated. All done without fuss or stress, just genuinely helpful. Can recommend without hesitation, and we plan on returning too. Thanks again, good people x

Good experience in Reds Residency, homestay with a good location to visit Kochi and a nice flowers courtyard. The staff is kind and is always ready to give suggestions about the places to visit and the activites to do to discover the city and the lifestyle. Excellent breakfast with local dishes from Kerala and welcoming check in with the tasty indian watermelon juice!

The experience we had with Reds Recidency is outstanding. The room was super tidy and the house itself was very cosy. We enjoyed every minute of our visit. Melissa helped us a lot during our stay and suggested many nice places to visit. Calm and peaceful stay. It is “Home away from our HOME” I was there with my family. Myself and my family enjoyed staying there. Since we need to travel to next destination we had to checkout or else we might have been stayed there for couple of days more. They gave access to their kitchen for cooking food for my 10 months old kid. Am sure every one will feel secured and comfortable feel over there ️

Its a calm and cosy place. Owners are very friendly. The only homestay that felt like home. We will book our room here, if we visit Fort kochi again, can't think of any other option.

Hi everyone I am staying 28th and 29th of this month. It is too worst. It is like a dormatory. She is very commercial. She is waiting for guests money. Ac not working. It is like government hostel. Online rating is froud. It is too worst. Night 11 o clock ac filters cleaning. She is taken 2000 per room. Online price 1000. She is stolen guests money. No break fast. House keeping also worst. No service person.

It's a very cosy place to stay in Kochi. The rooms a clean service is good. The owners are very warm and welcoming and the ambience of the place is very beautiful and comfortable.
The main advantage is that it is very near to fort kochi so all the places are nearby.

The rooms were very clean. There were no blankets provided in AC rooms. Paid 1500 per night for AC rooms but still no breakfast was provided. No complimentary water was provided. Check for better options.

I had the opportunity to bump into this beautiful homestay by a freak accident. I had booked a room on the day of my arrival at Ernakulam (Cochin) last month in June 2022. Somehow I got a feedback that my room was booked for somebody else. My ego was hurt for no reason and I orally told the person on the other end of the phone that I am cancelling stay when there was an alternative offer from the other end for a room for me at just an extra cost of Rs 100/-, a double bedroom which was otherwise costing more. I simply dropped the phone. But on a second thought I dialled after about 10 mins back and said that I am willing to take the offer. I was amazed when the person on the other end (I did not know or ask her name) said courteously that sir we are only waiting for your confirmation and there is a party or two for the same accomodation. I said ok I am coming and after about 45 to 50 mins of auto ride I was at this homestay and was greeted by a bubbly young lady who introduced herself as "Mellizza" - I am not sure how to spell. But what followed rest was a great experience of stay and hospitality for 2 days. I had come on a work but it turned out to be work cum pleasure.
I would now summarise my experience about this homestay -
Cleanliness and upkeep - Excellent
Food (on order) - Healthy and Sufficient
Service - Prompt and courteous
About the Host - As I could gather both the mother and her daughter (fondly called as Melli) are extremely careful about each and every detail that a guest would reasonably require. Very humble to a fault (there was none ofcourse).
Price and Rates - Very reasonable.
Something extra - There is a musical keyboard stacked in a cosy corner in the main hall. Guests are free to play the instrument. Had a great time playing some tunes on it while I hummed a song to myself. Ah yes, the next morning I was greeted by a group of young men from Bangalore who said that they are a group of musicians and said that they would like to Jam in the evening with all of us. But as I had to leave back to my place in the evening, that could not happen and hoped to meet them again someday, somewhere or at the same beautiful homestay of Melli, the bubbly young host.
Summing up - As I had this wonderful opportunity by chance I must say it was a great experience altogether (Wish I had my family and friends that 2 days!).
I have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful homestay to anyone round the world.
And yes a word about the environs - Great surroundings (you have a Naval Museum) a few steps away. Take a ride towards the town and see for yourself what best you can avail of. Roads are neat and clean. No littering here and there. Great place for a "RETREAT" and then move about rejuvenated.
Yes with this I conclude my experience about this wonderful wonderful homestay - Truely as some of the guests above described; A home away from home!

This is probably the best b&b I have stayed in EVER. There cannot be a more welcoming and helpful couple as the two proprietors Maryann and Philip. The rooms are nice with A/C and good breakfasts are served. The hotel is well placed to see all of Kochi's attractions and Maryann gives you all the info necessary to enjoy yourself to a maximum. She will organise transport to anywhere you want and will give advice and sell tickets for the various cultural shows, concerts at the Kerala Kathakali Centre. I cannot overemphasize the friendliness of the place. After a few days I felt quite a member of the family.

Very nice place, clean rooms, super friendly hosts who are always happy to help you with anything you need, will definitely come again if I'm ever in Kochi in the future! And the breakfast is amazing, continental and daily changing Indian breakfast.

A great place to stay. The rooms and the small gardens make you feel like you are in another world. The host is very warm and friendly. The rates may be more but if you are in Fort kochi u need to stay here. Best home stay. Peaceful and serene.

One comes across very few places which are worth rating as 4 and the ones worth rating as 5 are very rare. My first experience in a home stay. The room, food and the service are much better than most 4 star hotels. A great experience in my own City. Wonderful hosts.
