Soul, Varkala - Black Beach

The separate rooms are not maintained well to the point the common restrooms are better, there is no cleaning service and the guy at the front desk is quite annoying and rude.

Also if you have any changes in checking in time they won't alter it according to needs they just stick to 2pm check in and 11 am checkout even though we notified them before through the booking

Also added not if you don't checkout at the right time they will fine you with 2000Rs/- which wasn't explained or display nowhere

My visit to Varkala was delightful, particularly my stay at Soul. The hosts (Ajay and Anjali) were incredibly polite and humble, creating a warm atmosphere. The Front Desk Manager (tall North Indian guy) at this property molested my female solo traveler friend recently during her stay in early November 2023. Travelers shouldn't have to face this anywhere. For travelers: Please be careful. For management: please take immediate action.

My stay at Soul Varkala was utterly dreadful. Paid 2600/night for a "premium" room, and it was a complete insult. Broken flush, filthy bathroom, and an overall horrendous room. No one at reception, and they ignored our calls. This was hands down the worst tourist experience. They're clearly cheating tourists with their premium price for such an insulting experience. Avoid at all costs.

Supposed to be an happening place, but when we went there, it had no events.anyway it was an nice dorm experience

Soul made my trip complete in Varkala. Although I've been there many times in Varkala, I tried Soul this time and got a wonderful experience. Hosts were great, suggested party to crash in and activities happening nearby. It has a cafe to keep on chilling, playing games, music, meeting travellers, watching sea n sunset, food is available all day long, in addition they have their own lawn and halls to chill and relax. Mine was a mixed bed room equipped with ac and it was nice in terms of cleanliness, and overall comfort, for privacy they got curtains and a personal locker. Creativity is everywhere whether it's with food garnishing or with wall graffiti or hanging decors. Have a soulful stay.

Maintain no hygeine.i am very very disappoint about the bed and pillows. Refreshing rooms also not good.if u maintain properly that will nice otherwise people wont come Again

The SOUL is your home away from home. SOUL made my first solo journey to Varkala an unforgettable experience. Very clean and reasonably priced accommodations with an excellent cafe. And a special thanks to JOB and FRAVITHA for being such gracious hosts. At SOUL, I had a lot of fun and made new friends. As a first-time female solo traveller, I was nervous about the accommodation options, but SOUL made me feel at ease and at home. ️

You can also rent bikes, book for adventure activities like kayaking and deep sea boat rides at SOUL.

Perfect place to stay! Rooms are clean and organised! Easy connectivity! 2 min walk to black beach! Great vibe and Nice staff!

Nobody is available at reception.the owner is not available either.nobody to contact here.anybody from outside coming in at midnight, we are not able to sleep in peace.pathetic experience on first day itself!

Best place for Solo travellers. You get option to choose your stay, either a Dormitory or individual room. Good thing is even the Dorm is AC, appreciate that. Had a chance to spend around 3 hours of time and it was great. Highly recommended for budget travellers and Solo travellers.

I stayed here in March 2023 while my backpacking trip to Varkala, Kerala. I was travelling solo and chose Dormitory for my stay it was completely Safe and a comfortable stay.
I was suppose to be here for 2 days but the vibe of soul hostel is something due to which I ended up extending my stay for more than a week.
Hosts of Soul are very lively and share such friendly and energetic vibes.
Everything seems great to me, my stay was amazing at Soul hostel.
And you also get Beautiful sunset and sea view from the Cafe.

This pocket friendly place to stay is 12kms from the kallambalam bus stop and about 5kms from the varkala railway station. It's located on the cliff just 100 metres away from the black beach. You get to interact with different kinds of people, share your travel experiences, spend time together and make a few new friends.
Hammock zone is something you wouldn't want to miss.
This place will never disappoint you.

So this property gave me the best backpacking stay experience. The host soham makes sure everyone is having fun and vibing there. Has the largest property area wise and has so much ro offer to you.

My only feedback for them is to NOT allow anyone to wear their slippers in the washrooms rather some a common slippers for the washrooms and put some signs to use them outsode washroms or personal use.

This property is underrated… it is the biggest hostel (offers private rooms too) - very spacious and comfortable, very close to the beach, and more accessible than zostel etc.i would rate it better than zostel.simply because the host (soham) does extra effort to make it more memorable for you.
Whats not to like- plenty of hammocks to laze around, common space to work in and decent wifi for wfh crowd.
All staff goes extra mile to make it worth your while. Kitchen meals are so delicious and homely. I loved the meals at soul - better than most restaurants.
They are still adding more amenities to the property- so your experience might be better than mine. But i will still offer 5* for the great experience and value for money offered- wayy better than zostel etc.

I travelled solo and stayed in a dorm for a couple of days. Soul is a pretty good place to stay that's clean and pocket friendly. The property is pretty big, has a good vibe and in property parking area. The cliff and the black beach are in walkable distance from the location.

Price of the food is on the higher side.

If you are thinking to stay at Zostel Varkala that's nearby, do check this place out too.

Loved staying at the soul. This property has such a nice vibe and we don’t want to leave from here. We stayed in room and dorms and both are nice. Will recommend it.

Double value for the money. Very close to the beach. Private rooms are big and very neat & nice. We get to meet strangers and hangout together, play games and have fun. The ambience was great.

Without doubt the best place to stay at when in Varkala. Bob is highly friendly and will help you out with anything you want.
Get your Soul lost at the lost.

Had a bad experience at Soul.
The people who were running Soul invited everyone staying nearby for a "Silent disco" event. We already had drinks and food at our own respective hotels (we were staying at Zostel), when some people invited us to this event. We had to pay 300rs entry fees and we were given headphones which costed probably 100rs. All the music was garbage and there was no coordination for the event. Many people's headphones didn't event work. At the end we walked out after 10 mins without any refund.
Basically they scammed folks who were already drunk.

As a solo traveler i always prefer vibe along with comfort, both u can find at this place, definitely recommended do meet soham one of the nicest and chillest person i met

Not a good place for Dorm. No AC or Ventilation. Cheap washroom. Bad service when it came to food. Overpriced tariffs. Not worth staying in the dorm.

1 thing I found bad was with the non ac room, they do provide fan but it is pedestal fan, which is not effective in a coastal area

My stay at Soul by the Lost was the highlight of my trip to Varkala. Its best quality is the people- the ones who run the place and the ones who stay there. I was welcomed with open arms, an easy smile and the opportunity to find friendships. The rooms, beds and other amenities are top quality, the service is impeccable, and you will always find a friend in Soham, who'll help you out with whatever you need. I made lasting memories there, which made it almost impossible to leave. I can't wait to go back again.

Soul is just as it’s name suggests. It is situated at an amazing location, a minute walk from the Black Beach. What should attract one to stay at Soul is it’s vibe, uber sweet staff, and an impeccable host. And, the hammock zone is just a cherry on the cake. This property assures you peace and certainly delivers on it.

Located very close to the beach making it a perfect location for a hostel in Varkala. It is budget friendly & rooms were all spacious with amazing beach view. Also, the staff were very generous & helpful. Overall, we had a very pleasant & comfortable stay.

One of the best hostel in varkala. I stayed at 3 different hostels in varkala but my soul was satistied here, just like the name says.

They have a big varanda with hamocks placed all over the place with great JBL music system.
The Owner/ Manager soham is a gem of a person. Down to earn and a chill person. The staffs over here are friendly too

The dorms here are a great place to stay as a solo traveler and you never feel like leaving this place. The property with an amazing view of Arabian Sea, is located just 200 meters from the Varkala cliff and all the cafes are easily accessible at walking distance.
