This place comes with a legacy, of the hardworking couple who traveled the world from the proceeds of this humble tea and snacks shop. Tasty and pocket-friendly, this is a place that would never fail to satisfy you.
Easy to locate. Simple ambience gives you travelling vibes. You might have already heard great stories from them. Apart from all of them, they are humble, polite & friendly. I tried the idli, vada & Tea. Idli is good. Vada is amazing, super crunchy and yum. Yes is very good as well. Would highly recommend.
Been there many times. Vijayan chettan is an interesting person. Whether it's a 10yr old kid or 70yr old friend, he loves to share his travel experience with evryone. Unfortunately he is no more. May his soul rest in peace.
It's not just a great coffee shop but a huge inspiration to all the hodophiles out there. But Ofcrse the mini restaurant servers good tea and yummy snacks. It's a must visit coffee shop.
The amazing couple Mr. Vijayan & Mrs. Mohana Vijayan who travelled to 25 countries despite all their limitations, solely by running the famous Sri Balaji Coffee House, Gandhi Nagar in Kochi. I had an amazing experience inside the coffee shop.
Both persons love to travel and they want to travel hence they work at their coffee house. Food was good also it's road touch so easy to find the place.
'Tea Shop' is a traditional small eatery in Kerals, bare and spartan, they are often called ചായക്കട (Chayakkada*) in Malayalam and serve local snacks and breakfast.
Good for travellers who want to catch up with local culture and mood. Normally crowded, especially during peak hours.
*Chayakkada = Chaya + Kada (ചായ + കട) Chaya = Tea Kada = Shop
Good Tea and coffee shop run by an elder couples vijayan and mohana. The Income they had earned from coffee house is mainly used for foreign trip's. Actually they are selling tea and coffee for traveling and exploring around the world. Many countries these elder couples had visited. Around more than 18 countries they had visited. There are a plenty of picture and paper cutting of there trip's can be seen in the walls of the Sri balaji coffee house Many famous YouTubers including drew brisket visited this coffee house. Amitha bhachan and Shashi tharoor also had sponsored foreign trip's for these couples. The tea coffee and other food items are available at Sri balaji coffee house is very cheap and easily offordable price for all. Food items and tea, coffee available here are very tasty
The tea shop, Sree Balaji, is owned by a lovely couple in 70s - Vijayan and Mohana. After speaking with them for about 30 minutes, I was in awe by their inspiring life story.
Vijayan and his wife both shared a common dream to travel the world, but money was always an issue. So 55 years ago, Vijayan took up selling tea on the streets of Kochi.
They saved 300 Rupees ($4.20) every day for decades, and they used this income (together with bank loans) to fund travels to 23 countries! From Switzerland to Brazil to the USA, and they don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
Vijayan and Mohana are a perfect couple who is living the happiest life that anyone can live. I am so happy that I dropped by their tea shop today, and I wish them the best of luck in their future travels!
P. S. If you come to Kochi, they would really appreciate any support to help them fulfill their upcoming travels. Their shop is located off Katrikadavu Road. Thanks!
Being a tea addict and having explored options in Kochi, I vouch for this tea. The second and third also had the same consistency.
The snacks are also worth a try. This place is famous for it's owners - The tea shop couple who saves around the year to travel and explore other countries.
Visited this place to see the legendary Vijayan chettan and his wife, who travel all around the world. But unfortunately they were not there. Hence I went there bad had a tea and pazhampori. There is limited seating and the way to the place was congested.
The iconic shop which became famous throughout the world for the couple who travelled worldwide from the earnings of this very shop. A simple yet beautiful shop which just sells tea along with some snacks. They are average.
There are many newspaper articles about the same couple hung on the walls. If you are lucky, you can see the couple there.
