It's worth a trip for the beauty of the museum. Many traditional furniture, which are no more in use, can be seen here. Unfortunately, a few items are either modified to look good or not real wood at all. Beautiful garden, try to spend some time here for the fresh air.

It was only after visiting the Nilambur Teak Museum that I came to know about teak beyond being a beautiful and durable wood.

Even the subtle details about teak are carefully understood by the visitors who come here.

This is not a place to visit just for curiosity. Take some time and try to read and understand all the notes that have been written here.

There are many exhibits in the museum that demonstrate the amazing durability of teak.

Teak growing, diseases during growth stages are all presented here with detailed pictures in a way that anyone can easily understand.

Pictures are also shared here for those who are interested to know more.

I wouldn't suggest spending time with friends and family as a tourist.

Students interested in history will find the South Museum of interest

For kids they have teak museum, bio resource nature park, children's park and more.

Seeing that everything is well taken care of, cleanliness is worth mentioning

Entry fee is 50₹ for adults and 15₹ for kids between 5 to 12 years of old, you can not get any food inside, only ice cream you will get inside.
Another my suggestion is better not to have food from the hotel just opposite of the museum, you will regret if you have from that hotel.

Nice place to visit once in a life time. Nothing much to see and experience. Mostly crowded in holidays. Food items and drinking water bottles are not allowed to the Museum area.

With its superiority among teak wood which is familiar in the surroundings, Nilambur teak has the right to speak about its nature, history and reasons for its supremacy. This museum speaks it well and is a nice experience with the butterfly park associated with it.

We stopped by Nilambur for a days break enroute a long journey. Had some time on hand and thought of seeing a couple of places listed on the places to see list. Teak museum was one of those and was a decent experience. It opens at 10.30 am. Entrance fees is 50 rupees for adults. Takes around 1/2 hour to 50 minutes to finish touring the museum depending on how interested you are. There is children's park and a curio shop inside the museum.

Teak Museum is located 4 km from Nilambur, a town in the Malappuram district of Kerala, south India.

The museum, a two storey building, is the world's first teak museum and is operated by the Kerala Forest Research Institute. The exhibits include comprehensive information on aspects of the use of teak in their exhibits and articles on the subject.

The museum was established in 1995 on the campus of the centre of Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) because of the historical significance of teak to the area. The world's first teak plantation was planted in Nilambur in the 1840s by the British.

Nilambur is a small, off the main tourist route town in Kerala. Teak museum keeps coming as a place to visit as it is one of the few places in this nowhere place. This time I gave it a go an we ended up spending more than two hours.

The main museum building is fairly loaded with all kind of information about team. Though there is lot to desire compared to best of the museums in the world, but finding it in Nilambur was good surprise. The displays surely could have been better, well maintained and not the fake concrete. However, the information was fine.

The best part is the garden outside. Again, if one can ignore the concrete frogs and leopards etc.the actual vegetation is fairly enriched with variety and information, at least for a person who has no idea of botany, but is curious about things. We also saw lot of kids and families having good time in the garden.
It could be a relaxing evening out.

I am from Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram centre, I have visited there with my mates and junior on 23rd of August (2nd day of Bakra Eid), it is advisable to visit with your family but not with your mates as only garden is there.
It is also a good place for the botany student or for those who are so much interested in flaura as lots of species of plants are there.

The nearest railway station is nilambur road railway station which is approximately 5 km far away from there.

One can get bamboo's handicrafts of various type for house and office decoration that can be accessible just in front of entry gate of teak museum, nilambur.

It was a fabulous place, good for kids as well to understand how the age of a tree is calculated seeing the inner rings of a tree. Various furnitures which are done with teak wood are exhibited with some description. Nearly 40 types of butterflies and bees Skelton are also exhibited in the museum. Place is well maintained and entrance fee is 40Rs per person (kids above age of 5). Please make sure to visit the place before 4 PM in the evening, so as to get enough time to walk around the complete museum. Closing time is 5PM everyday.

Well maintained, highly informative, and a beautiful landscape at nilambur.
Perfect Destination for a day trip.
Ticket Cost is 40/Person, 15/Children and 20/DSLR or Videography.
Far better than Rose Garden in Ooty.
This has variety of flowers and trees. Filled with different butterflies.
