The Gateway Hotel Marine Drive, Ernakulam

To say that my experience was unsatisfactory would be an understatement. This hotel is under renovation. Which is not been informed or shown while booking. Construction noises that echoed through the entire premises. It was as if I had unwittingly booked a room in the middle of a construction site. The incessant drilling, hammering, and other disruptive sounds persisted throughout the day, making any form of relaxation or rest utterly impossible. Although a room change was offered with the noice It is disheartening to think that my stay at thei hotel, which was meant to be a pleasant and rejuvenating experience, turned into a nightmare. I have asked to speak to the GM without any success. It seems he doesn’t come to the hotel because of the noise. FO manager did come in but what’s the point. What a shame! I did not pay for this. This is not the first time a hotel is undergoing renovation and still accommodating guests in this world. The one who is executing the project needs to have some competency to manage it. Not at the cost of other money! The policy of money at any cost was not expecting from this brand.

We stayed in 114,115 and 117 we had a great stay and the management was too good. At the restaurant we had ordered Tom yum soup and it was not made a per Thai style the food and beverage manger mr sajneesh Nair was there at your table and apologised and made sure the we are happy. I travel a lot to Taj’s great team and great stag like Mr Sajneesh keeps your taj name hats off and really will come back for the kind gesture and service at your hotel must say it best for family

Really enjoyed the stay, and even if the price is on a bit high side we enjoyed a couple of beers at Swirl

Last week, able to attend a meeting here. All the set up was good and have a luxury touch. It is located with a nice view of kochi and marine drive. Best place to stay.

Went with lot of hopes. A hotel on the brink of closure for renovation. Tardy staff with tired food served Luke warm! Chef not trained for the items we ordered like tom yam.green curry was passable!

Hopefully staff will be refreshed and fully trained for the Vivanta product!

We were apprehensive about our stay due to the ongoing renovations. However, while there was noise from construction work, we enjoyed our stay a lot. The team is absolutely lovely and makes all the difference. We had two suites that were very comfortable even though they maybe are a bit tired. View was lovely. Location is very central. We will be back.

Amazing hospitality.pampered is the word which comes to mind after staying for a few days in Taj Gateway. Most courteous staff. And good thing is it is all genuine.not just a part of a job

Almost like any other 4 star hotel but with a serene Seaview.
The room and bathroom were a bit smaller than you would expect.
The restaurant had a mere standard buffet menu

The best 5 star hotel in town. Recently had conducted an engagement function in the hotel. Ambience, Food, Services; all were never out of quality.

Efficient and Supportive staff.

Didn't had to direct the family members to the concerned hall. All were directed and monitored to the hall, with their needs checked frequently.

Above all, the whole setting, arrangement, including the staff were calm and peaceful.

Will definitely choose this hotel again and again, specially for their coordination.

Very bad experience.when i entered the room there was foul smell. In the toilet there is tissue lying in the pot.overall room condition is very bad.we booked 4 rooms but every room had some prblems.we r not going to recommend this hotel to anybody.

Let me give a honest review, we went as a couple for two day stay, pros first -
# Location is bang in marine drive, near to all shopping and best places to visit in kochi, infact there is no 5 star or even 4 or 3 star hotels in the marine drive
# Experience of taj hospitality, since its Taj so not many things can go wrong with respect to hospitality and room service
# Good rooms, some rooms are sea facing and some are city facing.
# Guest have direct access to marine drive walkway so good for early and evening walks, complimentary boat ride was provided, very calm and serene atmosphere.

Few cons -
# Buffet breakfast was just average, few items like sausages and baked beans were not prepared well on both days, i can feel the difference because i stayed on Taj heritage in wellington island and their food had excellent spread and taste.it was bit average by taj standard otherwise its ok, they had more of south indian for breakfast which was fine with us.we did not opt for lunch and dinner there.overall its a best place to stay if you want to explore kochi city and shopping and also best for business and commercial visit

Fantastic experience. Very good polite and helpful staff. Excellent food. Very good atmosphere for morning breakfast or dinner time. Looking forward to visiting again.

Awesome staff really helpful! Came with my wife and daughter " Room was not properly clean especially wash room " I did not expect this from gateway hotel " Really poor room cleanliness.

Could have cleaned the toilet by the party area (banquet hall) have gone under the standard very diappointing

I was a little disappointed because the property is a little run down and the service was not as expected from our past experience. In normal course I would love to go back but now I will think twice.

The hotel gives a fine experience of Heritage. It is old and requires some renovations. But still gives a nice experience. Would suggest to take the sea view rooms.

The property is located at the heart of Cochin city and right at the famous Marine drive. The food was good along with their services. We stayed there during the covid times and we did feel safe staying at the property.

Awesome Recipes, Spicy and Juicy Non veg dishes. Greatly enjoyed. Even it was parcelled the packing was awesome.

The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. But the room. The room had seen better days, obviously. But what we were not prepared for was the size of the rooms. The bathroom brought out the claustrophobic within you. Five star? Seriously?

Room was clean and nice. The staff during check-in was courteous and was nice enough to show the different room options available. However, during the check out there was a shortage of staff and the personnel present there was not professional (made us wait at the counter responding to other complaints and had a don't care attitude) and was not trained to take customer feedback (made a feedback for the gulab jamun ordered, which was below par, anyway that's another story). The staff responded in a rude way and in a challenging tone. Taj experience here is a bit over rated. Regret choosing this over other alternatives available, just based on the brand name. Inshort Decent but not worthy of the badge.

The property is pretty old and needs a facelift. Location is good. The rooms have superb view and the food is good.

It was nice experience with family here. Break fast was delicious and they provided best service also. Special thanks to security chettan.

The views from rooms are great. The rooms were clean, but it no more feels like a taj. The place shows its age. The food prices were unreasonable. A chicken biriyani costed more than 1200+ rs. The bill was ambiguous, everything was written as "food".

General Manager is a great and humble person.who helped us with the best and fast remedy when we had a small trouble during an event program.

If you are looking for a sea view morning then go for it. They also follow a proper covid safety measures.
Office staffs are good and provides best customer service. If you are opting for package with food (bubble cafe) a good buffet you can enjoy with the sea view.

It was really a great stay with sea view. Many thanks to Manger Dharmesh karriappa for their support to make our visit much more memorable. A wonderful person with a great attitude. Little more to improve the morning buffet else every thing was great. Property is located at bank of city with very nice view and site seeing.

Well, barely a 5 star Hotel. Taj? More like OYO. Please pay 1k extra and go for Marriot or Trident instead.why?

- Checkin delayed: We arrived 1 hour after checkin time, still the room was not ready. We had 8 hours of flight and road trip on us, terribly tired and we were asked to sit and wait at the lobby for a room that should have been ready 1 hour earlier

- Little to no hospitality: Asked for water at the lobby, the concierge asked me to go fetch:)

- Unpredictable Service: The wifi in the room was not working, I had to call to get it fixed
- The room had a mysterious door, that would not open and led to, I don't know where, not a safe feeling

Overall, Very cold behaviour from people for a room that was as basic as it gets. Please do avoid.

Inside activity area is less and food is very costly.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 nights. The hotel is located on the marin drive with ample parking space. The staff at the reception are polite and professional. Strick covid protocol is following and that is really good. The check in/out hardly takes couple of minutes. The hotel rooms are spacious, comfortable. There is an iron board and an iron to press your clothes.

It is awesome whether your order in-room or have it at the bubble cafe. The breakfast spread is simply amazing and you are spoilt for choice. The Chef and the staff at Bubble Cafe are wonderful.

Good property with a view facing the backwaters & port. Food is excellent and their restaurant has a sea facing view. Service is excellent & customer centric, as can be expected from a Tata group company.

Good location and excellent service from the staff. Had good experience with free cruise ride across the backwater.

We went there to attend a wedding Eve. The function was good but the hall was bit crowded. Also there was no proper arrangements for parking as we were asked to park outside. But overall function was arranged properly and we were satisfied.

It's is sold as a 5 star. More like 4 star. If they paid attention to little details like torn linen. Definetly can't b 5 stars. Quaint. Old world charm. Their web details says free breakfast. Don't be fooled If it's not in in your room plan, there is a cost.

Beautiful location. Central to getting around Cochin. We upgraded our room to a sea facing (additional cost) stunning views.

Water front hall is the best place and location for wedding eve function. Superb conduct of music, fellowship and dinner.

I think The Gateway Hotel Marine Drive, Ernakulam is one of the best hotels in Ernakulam. Because of their good rooms and service. It deserves better.

It’s a beautiful place to stay be it work or leisure! The food is beyond amazing and so is the swimming pool. Spa services like the steam room could use improvement. Don’t forget to use their local ferry ride which is free for guests staying there.

There is a good variety of foods. But not that tasty. Just a good meal. Not extra ordinary. Good view and good for casual hangouts with friends. Doesn't have a romantic setting and it's more of a family oriented ambience. The hotel is near Marine drive so has plenty of shops and good city life.

Good ambience.very nice food.traditional paintings but washroom needs to be upgraded its too old ones and needs to updated as per changing times.but overall it's perfect.

The hotel is located in one of the prime location in Kochi and is well placed. Loved the food there.

Good ambience for functions. AC and non AC halls are available. Variety of food options could be increased but the quality is excellent. Easily accessible from the main road and plenty of parking space inside the compound.

One of the old and good star hotel. Owned by tata group and the charges are moderate when compared to other hotels. The restaurant is pretty good.

I went to the Gateway Hotel for an expo organized by one of the overseas educational servicing agency. I didn't get inside the hotel as the expo was conducted in the compound right in front of the hotel. But with what i've seen, I saw that the hotel was well maintained and kept neat and tidy. The staff were well informed and organized.

Excellent stay. One of the best 5 star experiences for the price I got. Recommend it to everyone. Bubble cafe was very good. And my oh my the view. Wake up to the Arabian Sea.

This is a five star hotel in Ernakulam. Located in front of the Backwaters on the Marina. Belongs to Taj group of Hotels under their brand. GATEWAY.
Has a fabulous view of lake facing Rooms. They also give a complimentary cruise on the lake every evening. Has a Spa and fitness center.
Excellent service and good rooms with all amenities. We loved our stay here for two nights.

Nice stay with rooms facing the back waters of Kochi. Fitting are all old and room requires a revamp soon.

True to the Taj brand, the place is a blend of comfort and hospitality. With the advantage of location, it also has the added benefit of accessibility to the marine drive and the back water boat rides. Comfortable and just the right sized rooms for the guests. Restaurant is freshly renovated and has the best of cooks looking after the gastronomic needs of its guests.

Occasionally, the place holds sale exhibitions for garments, which are quite popular. Overall a memorable stay for self and family.
