They have a western menu but be warned this menu resembles nothing of what western food is.
The English breakfast consists only of beans, egg and bread, and the banana pancake was a crepe cooked without oil and raw bananas thrown in the middle.
This was very expensive compared to local food places next door (the price of breakfast was the price of our next lunch and dinner).
The chocolate cake and ice cream was too good. One must try! We ordered chicken lollipop which was burnt and had too much ketchup in it. Fish calamari was not properly cooked. It was chewy and bad in taste. The bread used in Bruschetta was inappropriate and had no cheese in it.
The restaurant owner should replace the chef. Hopefully, the restaurant will do wonders then!
Definitely the best eatery / hangout spot in Kovalam beach area. The vast open terrace is bang on the beach with a view to die for. The menu is quite extensive with a lot of continental options which seems to be a rarity in this area. We ordered a portion of Fries, a Bruschetta and a Crotini. The fries were fresh and hot. Bruschetta was fresh but the Crotini was the best. We also had slices of Chocolate and Lemon cake which both were fresh and with just the right amount of sweet. I highly recommend this place and would definitely be coming back for a proper meal.
Worst experience ever. Very difficult to reach the location. And these folks do not pick up the call when we try to ask them on how to reach. Think twice before going there.
Lovely place to spend your evening in Kovalam. Awesome food, good service and great ambience. The cakes and hot chocolate was yummy Wonderful spread of snacks, desserts and main course available. Price is also affordable. The place is facing the beach so you can relax & enjoy the amazing view of the sea.
No flavour for food.even a simple fried rice taste disgusting. Fish options are missing being a seaside restaurant. Good place to sit for good view. Drinks are ok Service is very bad. Waiters are not interested to offer any options.
Located above the beach hotel on the first floor, the German Bakery and Wave restaurant provides an extensive menu. You can choose authentic German cuisine, seafood, drinks, tea, and desserts. The food is served fresh, although it takes a long wait. The sandwiches and grilled fish are a must-try. The view overlooking the Kovalam Light House and the sea is spectacular. Enjoy the candle light dinner with the sound of waves.
Wow Betsy, were you really @ The German Bakery? I have fish every time i go there. I especially recommend appam with fish curry for breakfast and their local Kerala fish dishes for lunch and dinner, Kerala meen fry for example. Good ambience, clean & spacious, good wifi, comfortable chairs, upstairs so away from the hustle & bustle + nice view. Famous for their cakes. Food takes forever & I got sick once after eating there, otherwise 5 star.
Only the view is good here. Came here for a tea, waited for more than 30 min. Tea was prepared on with the old/used bag. We didn’t drink it and we were still required to pay for the tea, even though we didn't drink it.
The ambience and food is good. Good view of the sea. The only catch is the huge amount of time they take to serve food. It took almost an hour for our food.
We liked having coffee here so much that we chose to come back for lunch. Five stars for the view, lovely breeze and good wifi while you enjoy your tasty meal - there is a wide selection of European and Indian food and drinks. The food took a little time which was perfect for us as we wanted to sit and relax.
It's the best place to eat good food in Kovalam beach. Coconut prawn fry is highly recommended. Service speed is a bit slow, but acceptable considering the food quality and ambience.
Very good fresh juices! And nice food as well, we had a salad and a quiche (which was note a quiche but more like a pizza but home made and freshly cooked). Also had the pineapple with icecream food dessert, very yummy. Wide variety of options to choose among western and Indian food. Kind staff and very beautiful venue with sea view! The best, the juices, the dessert and the view.
Good food, staffs are able to speak Hindi, English and malyali. A great place to sit and enjoy the beauty of Kovalam light house beech and have some tasty sea food.
If you are visiting Kovalam and want to sit back and enjoy the sun set sipping a coffee (or beer), this is one awesome spot. Its slightly on the costlier side, but that is expected from a hotel in such a location.
Though its named a bakery, they have a wide menu to offer.
Staffs were nice. Toilets were clean.
PS: sea side viewing seats get filled pretty fast.
Had Lovely Food, Cakes and shakes are staple here, apart from that the Fish meen curry with Rice was by far the best I have had in Kerela in My one week visit here. Big Menu with Plenty of options - German, Thai, Kerala, Indian, Italian and much more.
Even When it's sunny, it's easy to sit here lovely Breeze on 1st floor, good furniture and great ambiance. Clean toilets.
An update of my review New: tried out their lemon cake after so many recommendation but I didn't like it, it felt like normal cheese cake with some lemon juice poured on top. Now they don't have Heineken, just kingfisher bottle beer Apart from that all food items I really love & appreciate as usual, will visit again My favourite restaurant in kovalam
Previous: I had grilled shrimps and calamari masala with a heniken (can, felt like an authentic one). I ordered normal rice for the main. I went around 7-8 pm, during that time I found most of other restaurants around here are either empty or hardly anyone in it. From the reviews I sort out that Germany bakery have something unique
When I went, there were around 20-30 guys, most of them were appeard to be foreign nationalities
This place have a special vibe with their rooftop and candle lights facing the beach and light house. I recommend everyone spending evening around Kovalam must visit their place atleast for its vibe
For the food part, not over priced, quality well maintained, quantity more than sufficient
Had dinner for two consecutive evenings.amazing ambience just next to the sea.located on Lighthouse Beach, Kovalam. Try their baked items.especially banana and coconut cake. Its yum!
The loveliest ambience with a view to die for and the most impressive cuisine! The best service I have gotten to date at a restaurant! Absolute must visit!
Friendly, courteous staff, only place that I noticed in that stretch of the Kovalam beach, were the staff had their masks on, considering we are in the midst of a pandemic. Clean place too, however when it comes to the food and beverages, I was truly taken aback! The cuppacino served had no taste of Coffee! It was nothing but foam with diluted coffee and milk! Was really taken a back by that. The German dishes like the curry Würst mit Pommes were not available since they apparently just opened up post pandemic and sourcing of the ingredients was a concern I was told! The calamari fry was yum! The fish fingers was confusing and tasted heavy! The veg fungi based white sause pasta was just ok! The chicken fried rice was simply confusing. All in all I would give credits to the staff's courteousness, location of the place, cleanliness. They really have to work on their food! And price the food according to what is being offered!

Had a very bad experience from this place. The view is nice but food not upto the mark. Ordered cocktail and the guy mocked us with mocktail. Also ordered Käsespätzle with bacon and cheese and it was not that good. After sunset the my spot was attacked by winged ants and bugs and they took over the entire table. Atleast the authority should know this would happen but they ignored. Wasted my date and my money
Located on Hawah Beach, German bakery is a restaurant and hotel. Built on the first floor, customers can dine enjoying the view of the beach and sea.
The restaurant serves Indian, Continental, English and German cuisines. They have open air seating too. Smoking us allowed in the restaurant. Everything we ordered was good except for the German specialities. Average cost for 2 - INR 1000 - 1300.
Timing - 8: 00 am to 11: 00 pm, 365 days
Waiting time - after placing the order average wait time was 10-12 minutes.
Staff - polite, friendly and knowledgeable. Place order and they will customize your order to your liking
One of the finest restaurants in Covalam. First of all the view from here is so mesmerizing that many of you would not even care about food. The beach looks so fulfilling from here and you get the best sunset view.
But wait that's not all. The food is so scrumptious that it gives you foodgasm.
Best part is they make everything fresh and do not use precooked or half cooked items, which is by the way a reason behind their delayed service. But hey, do not forget the sea view, late food just means you get more time to enjoy the view.
Looking at the reviews had visited the place. However, it didn't meet my expectations. The food taste is ok not upto the price they charge. The ambience and view is really good.
Highly rude staff, no Matter how sweetly you speak to them they are rude and it's better to avoid this place because you don't want to spoil your vacation
Really nice bakery items (for india) freshly baked and ok priced. We had a few items and the waffles tasted good. The spaghetti I ordered was slightly sickly and stodgy with a minuscule amount of fish mixed in (tiny prawns etc) but the service, atmosphere and bakery items warrant the 4 stars (stick to bakery and breakfast items)
Avoid, Unhygienic Restaurant, Rude servers (Especially Seniors hanging around, unwilling to change attitude, who-cares kind of attitude), Let not 'German bakery' name mislead you, Sad bakery items on display, Bad vibes. Try out Beatles cafe instead, much better in all aspects. Just another 100mtrs ahead
People have raved about it since we arrived but it's nothing special.
Quite ignorant staff which stands out on a strip where every man and his dog smile at you and say hello and as you to look at the menu.
Waiter taking our order didn't even look at us, yawned twice and just walked off mid order, I had to chase him to order a drink, which then arrived way after the food.
Essentially it's a niche because there are no other bakeries around that serve pastries, crêpes, pancakes etc but that doesn't make this place good, just slightly unique for the area.
Empfehlenswert!
An atmospheric café overlooking Lighthouse Beach, Kovalam, where you can have a leisurely snack or meal. Not the cheapest, but impeccably clean and lovely bread and cakes.
Nice restaurant with a good menu and good views. They have a hotel too which I guess is simple and good. Popular with foreign tourists, they seem accommodating to your tastes. No alcohol.
Best place to hangout, eat, spent evening. Good foods, good service, well decorated. Like the use of clay pots to house chilling bear bottles. Tried many other places around.this place is the best.
There is a thing called hospitality, i think that is missing in the waiter who served us. He was rude. If we are paying for your service we need respect in return. We are not sitting here for free. Nevertheless the food was good and the view from the restaurant is beautiful.
The view is great. Beyond that this place is not worth visiting. Poor service and the food is not as good as described on the menu. I ordered a fruit drink. It came in a coconut and in 3 sips it was gone. 190 rupees for 3 sips of juice (orange mixed with coconut? Ya ok. It took 25 minutes to get my drink and a piece of desert when their was only a few other customers. You scoop desert onto a plate and drip some orange juice into a coconut. 25 minutes to do this. I was disappointed with both the service and quantity of food I received for the price I payed. Would not return.
Great ambience with an amazing view of the sea but the food is so ordinary. Tried both waffles and pancakes and both were not at all at par with the ones I had in multiple places at Bangalore. Had filter coffee as well which also tasted pretty much like your run of the mill ccd machine coffee.
