Positive points - Malabar resort is located right opposite to Thottada beach. Location is pretty good. They offer complementary breakfast.
Negative - Beware of property Owner Sunil, very business minded fellow. Hospitality is not good. Chef will disappear at night n no proper food options. We shud beg for each n everything to organize.
Overall very bad experience. Mr Sunil owner of the property is very money minded person.

Excellent location, great hospitality and service, the rooms are clean and decently sized. The beach is right across the road from the resort, the beaches are serene and literally devoid of people. There are other connected beaches to the north and south you can explore. Food prepared in house is good. The caretake is a very friendly and accommodating. Very close to shops and restaurants though it's very well isolated from bustle and people.

Overall above avg experience. Great location just near beach. The beach experience is awesome.
We had only veg food and the chef actually did a good job with all items except ela ada which was not done well at all. They should have at least 1 other item for breakfast. Also have a menu which lists available items. It's one thing to make meals based on guest preference but every meal we were giving guidance. If there was a menu, we could have selected instead of to and fro on what was available and what wasn't.

Had an amazing stay at The Malabar Beach Resort

Just coming back from a short trip to Kannur where we chose The Malabar Beach Resort as our accommodation, and what a pleasant experience it was. Mr. Sunil (the owner) took personal interest in every small detail of our stay right from ensuring our safe arrival from Bangalore, preparing dishes to suit our palette, ensuring we have beautiful villas for our stay.

We planned a 4 Night stay at this property

The Property is just off a magnificent and clean beach in Kannur- just the perfect place we required for our stay.

Their bell boy / attendant Mr. Vijay is a hard working chap and is on his toes every time you need him for.

All in all it was one of the memorable outings we were longing for and a definite repeat for the future.

To talk about this place the approach road is quite narrow but when you reach the destination it is like a paradise.
The minimum amount of building units is a +.

Beach is just a few meter away. The constant sound of the waves gives a vibe.

Talking about food. The taste is good. Kerela cusine is authentic and portion is sufficient.

Notably the staff Mr. Stefin did a splendid job is taking care of the situation especially when you have children and infants around.

Overall a good experience and i will visit often.

Wonderful Resort! Everything, from the beauty of the beach and nature, to the hospitality and service is great!

Best part was the never give up attitude with which the staffs served us during our stay. Must visit the place if you need some time out of your hectic schedule.

Good place for a weekend to stay and enjoy the beach.

Positives:
- Very spacious cottages/Rooms
- Pool. Heated pool evening times
- Private Beach (Can’t get into water as it is very deep)
- huge space for kids or adults to play in sand

Negatives:
- Towels are very smelly. Told staff couple of times about the same, but got the similar ones second day also full of smell. We are 5 families visited and stayed 2 nights. All of us have the same experience with the towels.
- Food - Average. Lunch, no buffet and only alacarte. Expensive and less tasty. Serves very slow.
- No campfire etc
- We can’t get into water, as it is very deep in the area. One guard always available and warns visitors not to get into water.

I booked this place for a trip with my family. And it was the best. The place is situated right opposite the beach and is easy to find on the maps. The beach is a very private beach with almost no people around.

The rooms were clean and well maintained, the food was amazing and very timely organized at our convenience. The property is pretty big and has a big garden where you can chill. The host Mr. Sunil and the Manger Mr. Satya are extremely nice and fun people and give true meaning to the saying 'service with a smile'

Would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a quick get away to just relax and enjoy kannur.

Nice place I have been going to Kannur for last 5 years and this is one of the best please I have stayed so far. Right in front of the beach, property is really big, big and good rooms were really clean ambience is really nice, they have managed property very well since it is near to the beach be used to go to beach at least two times a day and the room service where kind enough to come and clean the room everytime We ask.food is also really good this they have two options they will serve you at your room or we can go and have food from their restaurant. This property is right in front of the beach and the beach is also really nice and you get a feel of a private beach. Sathyak the property manager is very friendly and down to earth, really enjoyed the stay there.

The location of the resort is very well planned; overlooking the beach. The ambience of the resort feels right at home and on point. The care takers are well mannered and are very humble, any request is taken care of instantly.
While the food is slightly on the expensive side, the quantity and the taste overpowers.
They did not wanted to keep a count of the amount of tea or water we had consumed and they were kind enough to write off most of it.
The approach road is well tarred and even huge vehicles can easily pass through.
They arranged a table and chairs on the lawn for us to enjoy the evening outside, which we pleasantly enjoyed.
The only con was that the bathroom door of our room kept jamming due to the climate change, however, it was fixed instantly by a professional carpenter on immediate notice.
Overall, the experience was amazing and would defenitely go back again.

Location is just opposite to beach and you have to just come out of the resort to get wet in the beach. The resort is quite small but serves the purpose. You cant see the beach/sea even from 1st floor and the road to the resort is small. There is no restaurant but if you place an order, they will prepare but mind its too costly. And there was no buffet for breakfast. There was 1 or two items which were served. We checked in a little early and they charged 1.5k as early check-in charges. The rooms are just ok type. Don't expect anything more than a normal room with AC. You don't get a feel that you are living in a resort but as if you are in some room. Only plus point I felt was accessibility to the beach and the way the staff treat you with greet.

The location is nice with nice view of the beach though its a bit far from the main road, but the homestay will call auto if needed.
Stay wise room was clean and AC was there but toilet was little leaky.
Food - limited options were there for breakfast, basically whatever care taker decides. No lunch or dinner facility present you have to arrange by yourself.

Great location and nice hospitality by staff. Right across from the beach. It does not have beach view but you can walk to the beach in 100 meters.

An excellent place to stay and to roam on a serene, crowd-free beach. The Payyambalam beach is just opposite to this resort and you'll reach the waves in a mere 50 meters walk. The beach also looks like a private beach and it's extraordinarily clean. We can spend hours together on the beach, without crowds and other disturbances.
I usually prefer amenities of a minimum of 4 star hotel. Even though this resort is not providing such amenities, I felt it's a great place to stay because of the friendly and attentive staff. The suit offered for me is an ethnic, old styled one. I liked it even though I prefer present age comforts. There's no coffee maker in the room, but they bring tea or coffee very quickly, if we order. There's no breakfast buffet, but they offer items according to our expectations. The property is much like a large farm stay. Pleasant and serene environment, but also we can hear the sound of the waves.

Overall: I'm a solo traveller enjoying loneliness and searching for peace. So, it was a great place for me. I spent all the time here without going anywhere. You also can have a nice peaceful time here.

Can someone believe it's almost 3 years since covid struck us! Having had to travel across the world during peak situations has made me value and respect one thing. Good service industry business.

We booked "Malabar beach resort" during this weekend for the first time ever in Kannur. We just went by month old reviews and pictures. Trust us the five star review is solely because of the unexpected surprise that we received in terms of hospitality, value for money and location.

Starting with hospitality, We met Mr Stefin the manager around here. He took care of us like family. It takes a lot of effort and hard work to serve and manage guests. This guy knows his job. The working staff/food serving guy Mr. Vijay was also so nice. I couldn't meet the cook mr.sujay but the food was yummy amazing and homely. I won't say that there are 1000 items in the menu and lots of selections. These guys make it simple by having selected items in the menu. We aren't vegetarian and ordered chapathi& kurma 1st day, chapathi&paneer butter masala 2nd day.boy ohh boy.it was finger licking good. Good job mr.cook. We have always believed from our experience that it takes lots of cooking skills to make yummy vegetarian food in places places where non-vegetarian food is more known and famous.

The next being value for money, The rooms are big the bathrooms are bigger - And thats something we liked. We had the executive room at 1st floor. We have a 3 year old and hence we and he loves spacious bathrooms.
The rooms are not like photogenic that you see in marriots or hyats. Bedsheets and cushions are like regular home ones. So we are glad we didn't make that a decider for our booking, though that did make us doubtful first. Food is not at all costly especially for the taste.breakfast is complimentary. It had appam, stew, bread omlette butter tea coffee and kids Horlicks/boost (warmed to perfection).

The location is the biggest plus point here.you step out of the resort to enter the beach. And above all that a private stretch of it that has hardly a crowd on weekends too. Guess what adds to it- 8/10 clean beach.our toddler loves beaches and this was as enjoyable as the ones he went to before. The route to the resort could be a bit tricky for newcomers, but don't worry and if you can trust this review - then go ahead and take the short road. The entry to resort is at a decline that gives a cinematic view to the beach. Simply jaw-dropping.

Location is calm and great deal. Both rooms and cottages available. Located right in front of thottada beach. Stefhin bro and other staffs were so helpful and were always there for any assistance. Absolutely loved it!

The Malabar Beach Resort is located on Thottada Beach, Kannur and is to put very simply, a home away from home. It took us back to the Kerala from the time when we grew up. Everything - the beautiful cottage, the surroundings, the food, the nice earthly fragrance both within the rooms and outside - everything was exactly the way we remembered our childhood days. The kids also had an outstanding time running around, exploring and learning about good old natural beauty. Most of the questions that they had turned on the nostalgia switch big time for us. We had opted for the Cottage, which is just beautiful and has a nice lawn outside, with a swing. The Christmas lights at night only added to the prettiness all around. The food was the best we have had in a long time, and totally organic and homely. Exactly the way grandmoms cooked. The service right through was exemplary. Steffin, Rohit and Bijay, you are the best. There have been innumerable ways in which you have helped us during our stay, that we for sure, could not have expected from the priciest of hotels around. We used the services of Ajeesh for traveling within Kannur, and he was super-reliable and helpful.

The Thotada beach is just a matter of crossing a small road, and therefore only a stone's throw away. It is very clean, and rarely crowded. In fact, the sound of the waves are a perfect lullaby to rock you off to sleep.

Let us also tell you that you should not come in with 5 star expectations of luxurious interiors and infrastructure. Also, be mindful of the narrow, curvy road leading to the property.

This place is a perfect homestay with nothing but good old natural beauty, 7 star service, super nice homely food, and you will love it We certainly cannot wait to come back to this place again.

Property is located next to beach inside dead end of road.people coming for first time will have tough reach to way this property bcoz of narrow roads.u wont find any near by shop for 1 km.so better u carry or buy before coming for stay.rooms are very small n congested with outdated bathrooms.no basic amenities provided being 3 star category n i don't think so its 3 star rank.food is very very expensive just beware n with limited options.use swiggy app for order n its deliverable. Don't ask them to bring anything from markets of ur needs otherwise u will have to pay 3 times of mrp n staff will say someone come delivered which is making u fool.so beware.its not u can say hotel resort its like homestay private property resort.they will never give u gst bills.good think is accessible to beach within 100 meters n staff especially helpers n waiter are fabulous n mankind that's why for them giving 2 star otherwise not worth for family only for bachelor's its good.its my honest review for 1 day horrible stay with family.book at your own risk.take care

The staff were fantastic, going out of their way to make our stay comfortable. However, the accommodation needed updating; no fridge or safe in the room. The gardens were beautifully kept, but there were no sun loungers, just basic garden chairs. One needs to check with the owner regarding what is included in the price.
The beach across the road was super, but this is not a tourist destination unless you want to be off the beaten track.

This resort is situated in a calm and natural place with small beach, no one will be there to desturb.

The staff and the owner behavior was really rude and cheating.in the check-in time from the hotel side.they didn't update the tariff.after the check-in they charging more.if we are not able to pay the advance.after the check-in.the management will call the police. I have paid the bill but they didn't.give the bill.very poor

It was a great experience staying at Malabar. Host was very generous and good with his guests. Food was awesome and just like home made. Place was peaceful and great to be away from daily hassle. Not sure how to put this across so let me write the very honest one. Location wise it is excellent and that's it. To me it was way too expensive considering they do not have breakfast buffet. The room doesn't have basic amenities like cupboard, hangers, full length mirror, partitioned bathroom etc. If you are looking for a property near to a neat beach than this is your place but should not expect anything more and fancy. The property photographers are slightly deceptive. The whole property is kind of under maintenance mode. Plus owner must take initiative in cleaning the jungle around the passage leading to beach after all that's the only USP of the property. The passage looks to scary during night. It might be breeding ground for snakes. And at last I was quite surprised when they charged me for the tea coffee and milk. Afterall isn't it usual that those are included in the breakfast?

I stayed here for 4 days and this resort made my beach days killer. Beach is hardly 100 mts away from the resort and it was very easy to come to resort after the bath. I was coming back to resort with boxer, fully drenched and with full of sand. Since there is no people residing nearby you can literally do whatever you want. The beach in front of the resort is very peaceful and if you walk left after entering the beach you can see a private beach. If you are a beach person who likes waves, sunset and beer then this is the best place to stay: P

Overall had an excellent experience. Value for money. Very close to the beach. Nice landscaping with well maintained rooms. But, the best part is the service. Very helpful, cordial and well-mannered staff exemplified by both the owner Mr. Sunil and the manager Mr. Stephan.

This is a lovely resort in a secluded location in the small town of Thottada, close to Kannur. It has a home stay charm with easy access to the beach, which is very clean and not at all crowded. The approach road to the place is very narrow (single vehicle track). The roads ends at one end of the beach and hence very little traffic. I would recommend the place any day. Other than the resort food, the only option is to either hit the nearby town (Kannur, Thelessary) or some place on the highway - it would mean a drive of a few kms to reach these places. Overall, a great experience, not very expensive.

I stayed with family for 5 nights and 6 days. Stephen and his team was amazing and owner Sunil was there to support the whole team. It was great stay for our family and we had very good food and fun. Remember that this place is located in out skirts and need to plan certain needs well in advance or seek help from resort staff. You can get auto for short trips and taxi for long trips. You can trust the team on arrangements for trips and food. Chef prepared good food with healthy options and we pretty much ate most of the times (make sure to convey about your food preferences to Stephen).

I was impressed with Mr. Sunil, the manager of the facility; his conduct in particular. So also the quality of coffee they served to the room.
However, what we had in the the facility is way below what you would expect from what is advertised/paid for. No chair or phone in the room, a 15/17" TV, bare minimum toiletries (no shampoo/conditioner leave alone beach towel). We were four along with our 17 year old twin boys. I was asked to pay additional 50% charges for as occupancy for base charges is 2 people. This was despite not having breakfast (limited flexibility of kitchen staff/no option for take away breakfast). However, the manager was kind (!) to reduce this to 25+% extra charges later. I wont go back there.

Good staff and Nice sea food available at affordable rates with beach view and private experience

Amazing stay.the staff was very supportive, all three says we mostly ate at the resort as my family has food restrictions and they strictly adhere to our request. Best part is its at the beach. My daughter loves beaches and because of it's so close proximity every morning and evening we could spend at beach.

We visited in May end.the sand is rough and grains are not smooth and the pull was very very strong, I was scared to leave my daughters hand for one second.

So just need to be careful. Otherwise beautiful green beach.

Really good location and right on the beach which is not crowdy at all. Very friendly staff, specially Stefin is a nice gentleman and takes care of all your needs. Foods quality and taste are also really good. They took good care of my 3 year old daughter and prepared food which she can have as per our request.

Good Things.
1. Nice and Cooperative Staff.

Bad Things.

1. It's not a resort. It's just a homestay.so don't expect any facilities like resorts. (owner says they are not marketing it as a resort, resort is just the name of this property).

2. Private Beach. Again the owner says it's not a private Beach any one can come anytime they have no control over it. We really had a bad experience. We could see locals drinking and watching you in the beach and the number of locals kept increasing which forced us to go back to the Room.

3. You don't even find 1 security guard in the property. And shockingly they don't even ask you for your ID proof. Imagine they don't even know who's staying there.

4. Rooms. Neat and clean with a 2 star standard. TV's are too small. Bathrooms are badly maintained. Doors are not closing properly.

5. Food. Good and Tasty. But you will end up paying 5 star rates for it. Food is too expensive and we have to pay even for water bottles.

This place is really wonderful. Except for the approach road, it is located in a very pleasant area. I go for family holiday tours very often. I have visited many destinations in South India and stayed at different resorts or hotels. But The Malabar Beach Resort was my best experience. The staff is really friendly. I would give 10 out of 10 for the food. They know how to look after their guests; there is no doubt about it. The best this that has happened to me was when we were wondering whether to take a taxi for sightseeing @ 2500/- per day as the Drive-in Beach @ Kannur is the only one of it's kind in India or to drive myself. I was surprised when the owner himself offered to drive our car to the Drive-In Beach. Really these things don't happen everyday.but he actually drove us himself. The owner, the staff, the rooms, the location.everything's the best. I will give 5 Stars. All should try this Resort at least once.
