Zostel Varkala

I stayed 2 times.rooms are clean and neat.best hostel stay. The roof top restaurant is also good.

Loved every minute of my stay there. Manu anna is the coolest! Would totally visit again:)

Recently had a delightful stay at this place! The picturesque surroundings, good service and amenities made it a perfect staycation.

Had an amazing experience, got a chance to mingle with many people who were from diverse locations. Location is nice and I had a great time spending in Zostel Varkala

The only pros of the stay was it's proximity to the beach and other tourist places. Food was good too

However coming to the cons, we had booked an all female dorm. They don't have a lock for the rooms because they said that's how dorms are. This would've been acceptable if they had a female attendant for the all female dorms.
The male attendants lacked the common sense and courtesy to respect the privacy and safety of those staying in these dorms.
They wouldn't knock and wait for us to let them in and would just barge into these rooms.
This is such an invasion of privacy.
Zostel enforces so many rules on its residents asking us to not wear slippers in the common area and respect the privacy of those staying with us in the dorms whereas they cannot do the same.
It's my sincere suggestion to atleast have a female attendant for the female dorms or come up with an alternative to ensure the privacy and safety of women especially staying in these dorms.

The stay was great. Location was spot on. Everything is nearby to this stay like the cafes, north clif, black sand beach. They also provide this service of clubbing people and booking cab/auto to touristy places. The view from this this zostel was amazing. Would highly recommend.

Everything is fine but at the service desk one guy talking in very rude manner (don't know his name but somewhat older than others)

Don’t go there.

1. Staff is rude, very rude
2. Their geyser doesn’t work as they want to save cost by centralising it. So even if one person messed up, everyone will have to suffer
3. Very weird policy of keeping the outside slippers before entering their property. This is what? Hotel or temple?

We had a great stay at Zostel, the view is amazing. The place is quite clean and calm if one has to enjoy the calmness then it is your go to place in Varkala.

The location of the zostel is right behind the cliff which is an advantage. Rooms are clean. You cannot socialise to the people other than your dorm. Kinda hotel setup

We wanted to play table tennis at about 10pm. But the receptionist said it is closed at 10pm because the playing sound might affect the nearby rooms. Ironically, the restaurant on the 2nd floor was blasting music at high volume even at 11pm when we were trying to sleep. Edit: The "Deluxe Double Room" is totally not worth it's price. There were absolutely no facilities except your name tag, to justify such a price. Also the 10AM checkout time is adding fuel to fire! There were a damn lot of places which provide much better facilities than you! Gladly, we booked only for a night before moving out to a better place! Never recommending a Zostel!

This is the First Time I have been to a Zostel But it was a Crazy Experience All the staffs Very Very Friendly especially Manu the restaurant
person prepared Great Foods and In the evening the restaurant Vibe was literally soo Crazy Great Music, Manu and Zayya Were So Cool Will surely Visit Hereafter Many times

Just go for it if u r a solo traveller or with friends. Very near to north cliff and main beaches in Varkala. Rooms were good. Washroom was decent. We have booked mixed dormitory with 6 beds. Private rooms are available. Outside food is not allowed although restaurant is available on rooftop which is pretty decent and economical. Must try their parota. Overall it was pleasant stay. This place is best for spending a cool holiday in Varkala!

Excellent place with a active organizer (Zaayaa). She will make some good plans and make sure that everyone enjoys the trip.
Restaurant is damn good party vibe and tasty food.
Manu and Jose will make the best food!

I am a Nomad who is now travelling to south India and also a frequent user of zostel but the this varkala zostel has the rudest reception guys ever

It is like an jail & hostel
Food not allowed in room
Foots are not allowed in side the room
Dormitory have single toilet for 6 persons
Not even having a proper road
There have a lot of rules i never in any tourism Rooms...
In cases of any one person along with extra only charges apply they won't give a single pin for that person...

It was excellent experience in Zostel, especially Mohammed and Shlok, they were like buddies here and it’s was totally awesome

I only like one guy here, shlok who really hosted us very for him only I will give 5 well apart from him. All zostel employee very unknowing. This my last time in zostel. I will suggest to the all backpackers and nomad don't stay in any property in zostel. They don't have customer support. If you will stuck with something in their hostel, they will not help you anymore.

Say no to Zostel

I have been a Zostel patron since early days and have been to numerous Zostel's in India, so Zostel Varkala was the obvious choice for me.
I stayed here for 1N recently and while I was overall satisfied with my stay, I do somehow feel that Zostel has lost its charm now. The rooms were clean, staff was nice but the hostel lacked the social feel. Hardly any interactions with other people staying (and I consider myself an extrovert). The location is also a little away from main Varkala beaches and towards the end of the cliff.

Overall a good place to stay but if you are travelling solo and looking for a social vibe then look elsewhere. Another thing I want to point out is the relative high cost for a hostel. Almost all Zostels charge a standard fare of 599 and 799 for a dorm bed (without taxes) and I think it’s pretty high. For example even in Europe for 10-12€ you get dorm beds including breakfast. So Zostels are no longer value for money.

Stay was very nice. Excellent maintenance! This was my second time stay to zostel varkala. Comparing to my first stay this time it was less happening.other than that everything was great!

Very good location near varkala aquarium. Nice view from the roof top. The common area is a kind of restaurant type, not like that which encourages socialization with all.

Zostel Varkala stay was great. It was my first stay in any hostel accommodation. Zostel rooms were very clean. Views from terrace were beautiful. I used to love having tea with a view of ocean every morning.

Zostel is quite near to Varkal cliff. People at Zostel are very helpful and accomodating.

Its location was very good. Good to stay with friends. They have dynamic pricing so book prior. The view from cafe was amazing with okayish food. But staff is very strict there. Good to stay.

The zostel varkala's cleanliness was very good. The people managing are very friendly, they will arrange for all your outings and booking slots for activities like kayaking, etc.

The dorms were clean and well maintained. The staff was very courteous and always ready to help. The cafeteria staff is the highlight of the place

Amazing place for backpackers to stay in Varkala. The dorms were pretty neat and clean. Staff were very courteous. Snacks and beer are provided in the facility. Walkable distance to the cliff and beach. No proper beach view.

One the best trip I had and meet some amazing people. Trust me you will not regret. Don’t forget to meet the host Safeer who is an amazing soul.

A great place for stay, love the whole vibe and the location. The staff is very courteous and helpful, there's a cafe (with decent food) on the roof which has a beautiful view of the ocean. There are two beaches which are walkable from the hostel and you can book an auto pretty easily by just asking the person at reception to arrange one. Good crowd of travellers too.

Not a great place to stay, totally different from what is shown in the pics, the check-in was a total delay, was a total disappointment in toatl

The location is awesome. The beach and the cliff is within the walking distance. You can actually sit back and relax on the rooftop and watch the ocean. The service is good too. Staffs are helpful. Definitely recommended!
