. There is the only Shiva temple in the world in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, where the Mrityunjay form of Lord Shiva is worshiped (Mahamrityunjay Temple in Rewa). It is believed that worshiping Shiva here leads to longer life and future troubles go away. The importance of this Shivalaya is considered equivalent to that of the twelve Jyotirlingas.

The texture of the Shivling sitting in the Mahamrityunjaya temple located at Rewa is completely different from the rest of the Shivlings in the world. You will not find Shivling with 1001 holes in any other temple in the world.

The color of Shivling usually remains white, but its color changes somewhat with the season. According to Shiva Purana, Devadhidev Mahadev had originated Maha Sanjivani Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. Mahadev told the secret of this mantra only to Mother Parvati. Here all wishes are fulfilled by chanting Lord Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. For this reason, devotees from every corner of India come here to see Lord Mahamrityunjaya.
White Shivalinga is mentioned in Shiva Purana.

It is said that untimely death can be avoided by chanting Mahamrityujaya mantra and short life turns into long life. Chanting of Mahamrityunjaya mantra gives happiness, wealth and grains. In this temple there is a white Shivalinga with supernatural power of Lord Mahamrityunjaya in the form of Lord Shiva. There is no written history of the construction of Mahamrityunjaya temple and installation of the idol, but Mahamrityunjaya mantra is mentioned in Shiv Purana.

It is believed that by chanting Mahamrityunjaya Mantra in front of Lord Mahamrityunjaya, untimely death can be avoided and short life gets transformed into longevity. Mahamrityunjaya Mantra has been mentioned in great detail in Shiv Purana. Here Shiva is considered to be the Kaal Mahakaal of all times. Even Yama changes his path before worshiping Mahamrityunjaya and chanting mantras. In the Mahamrityunjaya temple located in the Rewa Fort complex, the Mahamrityunjay (God Shiva) himself resides. This temple is probably the only temple in the world where there is a Shivling with 1001 holes which gives supernatural power. The structure of the This Shivling is completely different from others. This type of Shivling is not found anywhere else in the world. Mahamrityunjaya (known as God Shiv) has a thousand eyes. There is Murti of Lord Ganesha also in the premises. It is believed that Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is the only mantra to convert short life into long life. Lord Shiva's darshan in Mahamrityunjaya temple gives relief from incurable diseases. This is a very old temple from the king's time.
It also has an old museum to visit.
This place is very clean and calm.

I visited it at the time of Ganesh Chaturthi.
So the image of the statue is attached as well.
It was pretty large; 8ft in total.

Although, the road that takes you to this place is way too narrow.
Like its ok if you are on a 2-wheeler (bike, scooty, etc.) ; but if you are on a car, prefer going some other way. Because if a car from opposite side comes in front of you, then you have a huge jam of atleast 20mins.

We're stuck for nearly 25mins in there.

हिंदुस्तान के दिल मध्यप्रदेश में कई ऐसे शहर हैं, जहां पूरे वर्ष पर्यटक आते रहते हैं। इन्हीं में से एक शहर है— रीवा। इसका किला पूरी दुनिया में अपनी भव्यता के लिए मशहूर है। इसकी खूबसूरती का जवाब नहीं। इसे देखने जो भी पर्यटक आते हैं, बस इसकी खूबसूरती में ही खो जाते हैं। दीवारों पर की गई नक्काशी का कोई जवाब नहीं। इस किले की भव्यवता देखते ही बनती है।इस महत्वपूर्ण किले को सलीम शाह ने बनाना शुरू किया था, लेकिन वे इसे पूरा नहीं कर सके थे। इसके बाद महाराजा विक्रमादित्य ने इसे पूरा करने का फैसला किया। जब यह किला बनकर पूरी तरह तैयार हो गया, तो राजा भाव सिंह ने इसके अंदर महामृत्युंजय मंदिर का निर्माण करवाया।

आज हम आपको इसी महामृत्युंजय मंदिर के बारे में बताएंगे। मध्यप्रदेश में शिव उपासना के पुरातन और धार्मिक महत्व के अनेक शिव मंदिर हैं। इनमें दो प्रमुख ज्योर्तिलिंग श्री महाकालेश्वर और ममलेश्वर प्रसिद्ध हैं। इनके अलावा कुछ ऐसे प्राचीन शिव मंदिर भी है, जिनके शिवलिंग अपने विशेष गुण और प्रभावों के कारण श्रद्धालुओं की आस्था का केन्द्र हैं। ऐसे ही एक दिव्य शिवलिंग रीवा के महामृत्युंजय मंदिर में है।

कहा जाता है महामृत्युंजय जाप से असमायिक मौत को भी टाला जा सकता है। रीवा का यह महामृत्युंजय मंदिर दुनिया का सबसे अनोखा मंदिर है। ये एकमात्र मंदिर है जहां भोलेनाथ के महामृत्युंजय रुप के दर्शन होते हैं। शिव का यह रुप अकाल मृत्यु, रोग और कलह से मुक्ति देने वाला माना जाता है
धर्मिक मान्यता है कि भगवान भोलेनाथ को तीन नेत्र है इसलिए उन्हें त्रिनेत्रधारी भी कहा जाता है। किंतु इस मंदिर के शिवलिंग की सबसे बड़ी विशेषता यह है कि इस सफेद शिवलिंग पर तीन नहीं बल्कि एक हजार नेत्र हैं। इसे सहस्त्र नेत्रधारी शिवलिंग भी कहते हैं।

लोक मान्यता है कि अगर एक साथ इन हजार नेत्रों की दृष्टि यदि शिवभक्त पर पड़ जाए तो उसकी सभी इच्छाएं पूरी हो जाती हैं। पौराणिक मान्यता है कि इस स्थान पर ऋषि दधीचि ने घोर तप से शिव को प्रसन्न किया।

इस शिव मंदिर की धार्मिक परंपराओं में भय, बाधा, रोग दूर करने और मनोकामना पूरी करने के लिए नारियल बांधा जाता है।

मनोरथ पूरे होने पर यह नारियल खोलकर वापस ले जाया जाता है। शिवलिंग पर बेलपत्र चढ़ाने का महत्व है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि यहां निराश मन को उम्मीद की किरण मिलती है और सावन में शिवलिंग दर्शन से शिव खुशियों की बरसात करते हैं।

रीवा में प्रकृति के अनेक रंग देखने को मिलते हैं। यहां हरे मैदान, ऊंचे पहाड़, झरने होने के साथ ही गंगा की सहायक नदियां भी गुजरती है। यहां अनेक पुराने महल और मंदिर और चचई झरने जैसे पर्यटन स्थल भी सैलानियों को आकर्षित करते है। शिव मंदिरों में मसौन का शिव मंदिर भी अपनी बेजोड़ विशेषता के लिए जाना जाता है।
