My partner and I stayed here for two days at the end of October. We stayed in the 4th floor superior luxury room. The staff were really nice and helpful. We booked a massage. The blind gentleman that massaged me was excellent. He really eased the pain in my shoulder! I recommend booking a massage. The cafe was also very good. They let us stay in the hotel all day as we had a late flight. Thank you again! Dan and Sophie

As with other reviews, this has everything you’d want from a boutique hotel. Service went above and beyond to accommodate everything we needed, and the breakfast was great (get the masala scrambled eggs!)

Cleverly tucked into space above the high ceiling ground floor. Some ceilings have obstructions. Plan on a head bump or two.

This hotel should have at least 4 stars! Very clean, perfect location, next to Taj Majal and yet still affordable stay. The style is elegant colonial, and the staff very gentle and helpful. Sadhna and Ravi gave us all the info we needed and very caringfor the whole time we stayed at the hotel. Only negative note, night shift guy when we left carried my husband luggages instead of helping me.

I had the pleasure of staying at Abode hotel last week for 5 nights. I can only highly recommend this hotel. The staff is incredibly caring and welcoming, making you feel at home all the time, the rooms are impeccable with everything you need, spotless and extremely clean. We got a room upgrade which I am very grateful and made the stay even more special. Thanks to their recommendations we also found out about some amazing restaurants and galleries nearby. Last but not least, the breakfast is amazing! They serve equally delicious indian and continental breakfast. Thank you again to all Abode Team for such a wondeful stay!

Beautiful place overlooking Taj and Mondegar, a very rare gem in Colaba.

Most residents are foreign nationals, very few Indians. Most of their tour itinerary and services are focused around foreigners.

The overall vibe and decor makes for a calm old world and a hippie place at the same time.

They serve breakfast in the morning, it is diverse, fresh, delicious and offers an opportunity to mingle with the other people in the hotel.

The overall service is very nice, I did not face any rudeness mentioned in the other reviews.
I enjoyed my stay and would love to go back.

Excellent boutique hotel in a great location. Super friendly staff who are always willing to help. They suggested and organized our early morning tour, which was a highlight of our time in Mumbai. We tried two rooms - the basic and the ensuite. Both rooms were stylish, clean and comfortable. We loved the little shower room in our basic room and all the little amenities included - like a face mask and the best ear plugs we have ever tried! The ensuite room was large with as many towels as you could need, as well as bathrobes. The little seating area in the corner was a lovely surprise and we enjoyed sitting there in the evening with some artisan ice cream they sell at reception. Breakfast was really lovely too. Overall, such a wonderful stay and we can't recommend it enough.

An absolutely stunning boutique hotel in the heart of Colaba. We were lucky enough to stay in the fourth floor luxury room which had lovely views over the surrounding rooftops. And the breakfast was the best we had during our whole trip.

We really loved the focus on sustainability - from empowering women to providing unlimited filtered water to reduce plastic waste. Our two nights here went by far too quickly and we will definitely return next time we are in Mumbai (and take advantage of some of the tours / experiences on offer which we sadly missed out on!)

Amazing budget friendly accommodation at the centre of old Bombay. Great service and hospitality. The aesthetic is very quaint and reflects a story of it own. Highly recommend if you wish to explore South Bombay!

We booked 2 Basic Rooms for 31st december. Prior to booking, we called the hotel to check if visitors were allowed. We mentioned the dates of the booking & the room type. We were told visitors were allowed with an extra fee after 10pm. We agreed and booked 2 rooms. In the email confirmation, it showed us the dates of the booking, the room type and clearly stated visitors were ALLOWED for a fee of ₹2240 per person after 10pm. We called the hotel and confirmed that we’ll be having 2 visitors. On the day of the booking, we were rudely greeted by the manager (I assume) and he said no visitors are allowed past 8pm since it’s NYE. I asked him why they didn’t tell us that on the call, and he started attacking me and saying it’s my fault for not asking them if the policy is different on NYE. I showed him the email that clearly stated the visitors were allowed. He said the email doesn’t hold true for that day since it’s NYE, but the email clearly stated the date of the booking. He was consistently being rude and blaming me, the customer, for not making sure of the policy even though I had the email and called them twice. What else am I supposed to do? We were denied the visitors and had to find another hotel to accommodate them on such short notice. Extremely rude and horrible experience. Wouldn’t recommend.

I very much enjoyed my stay at Abode Bombay. The staff was super kind and helpful in every respect. The room was small, but it was clean and perfect if you're planning on staying in Mumbai for a few days.

This hotel is phenomenal. Cannot recommend more highly. Nilesh on the desk is very helpful and sorted everything for us. Good value and the perfect base for a short stay in Mumbai. The tours they arrange are worthwhile, especially if you don't have much time to explore on your own or you find that the city is overwhelming.

The one downside: the road was very loud throughout the night. Bearable with jetlag and ear plugs, but this was a big downside for me because I am a light sleeper.

This hotel is a gem. Fantastic location near the Gateway of India, but tucked away from the hubbub of the street. The staff was exceptional - warm, welcoming, and professional. The room was cozy with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious and unique every morning. I would highly recommend staying here when you visit Mumbai.

This was my third visit to India and my second visit to Mumbai. I've stayed in dozens of accommodations throughout the country in the past 12 years, and I will have to say that this spot was the sweetest! The level of care and service was outstanding. The location- perfect. The early morning tour that my friends and I signed up for was simply amazing, so well done. Uniquely designed with care, I could have stayed here for weeks (but unfortunately had to move on!) I don't know how anyone could give this boutique hotel in the center of it all anything less than 5 stars. Highly recommend!

Abode Mumbai is boutique hotel located in a old heritage building which is walking distance from Taj and other popular spots like Bademiya. It is located right above the hustle and bustle of Mumbai life with street hawkers and tourists, giving the residents a sneak peek into the Bombay life.

The rooms are quaint and comfortable. The Subko Coffee attached to the property serves your amazing cuppas and snacks.

Brilliant hotel… everything to do with service is amazing. The breakfast is limited but delicious, the rooms are spacious. While they don’t have en suite it doesn’t really matter as it is quiet and very clean. Rooms do have a sink and shower too, which is nice. Staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful and will make your stay fantastic!

We were on a family trip. The rooms were clean, sanitary and comfortable. Bathrooms were well equipped. The breakfast was elaborate and filling. Nutella and peanut butter was homemade. Nilesh and the staff were quite friendly and polite.
I loved the house that was converted in hotel keeping its originality and structure. Its an experience to live in south Mumbai. If you are visiting there, this is good option to stay. Everything is accessible, from food to Gateway of India:)

We loved the vibe at Abode and would come back again if in Mumbai. Fantastic location and really great facilities.
All the staff were very friendly and when we got soaked in a downpour helped us get newspaper and hair dryers to dry our clothing.
They also do a lovely breakfast and great coffee.

However, we booked the basic room which did not have windows and a shared bathroom. Make sure not to book it, because the humidity is unbearable. We stayed there for 2 nights and our clothes got damp and smelly.

Looking for a botique experience in the old world charm of Mumbai, then this is the best place to stay! Very friendly staff and the French press is excellent. They also host exhibitions of photographers from across Mumbai in the lounge area.

Great service and very helpful staffs.

A bit pricy for the spatial quality. The metal beams on the room ceiling was dusty. The bathroom was tiny but the wall finishes could be improved or re-plastered.

We did a great early morning tour with Vasu and his driver organised through Abode hotel. We visited the newspaper, vegetable, flower and fish markets all while the city was waking up:) the tour finished with a chai. It was great to do the tour in the early morning whilst the city was a bit cooler.

The location is walking distance to getway of India, shopping street, Leopold, cafe mondegar and social colaba, ect.well it's not a hotel it's home. Mr nobert explained everything nicely, they are plastic free hotel.everything there is eco-friendly and sustainable.

If you want to experience something different in stay, try this place. We can say this is not a hotel, its your second home but it give you nice comfort, attractive room interior, friendly staff, reasonable price, good breakfast and much more. A place to stay in Mumbai.

Interesting decor. No complaint there. Full marks. That the high point of this place. Pretty much downhill from there. Rooms either have twin beds or a toilet–interesting decision but I'll let that slide. When I asked for an extra bed, so that my roommate/colleague and I wouldn't have to share a bed, I was informed that that would cost two thousand more per night!
Not the friendliest of staff, much closer to the contrary in fact. An unwillingness to help more than anything else.
If you're a solo traveller and a connoisseur of spacial design, this place might catch your fancy. For most other situations, it's simply not the place for you. For starters, the rooms just don't have a large enough bed. Definitely not large enough for comfortable platonic sleeping.
So despite my best intentions to do otherwise, I'm going to find myself cuddling with a colleague. Thank you Abode! You have done well do push the limits of discomfort in hospitality.

To summarise: Avoid if at all possible.

Location Location Location. Yes, what a gorgeous location, but it's the staff and the set-up that makes the place extra special. Nelcia is super helpful and gracious. We are chuffed with our choice to spend our mini-vacay at Abode.

Abode is a heritage building converted in to a boutique hotel. The owners have blended the old building vibe in to the contemporary design very well. The rooms are cosy, beautiful and practical. The service is great. The staff was very professional and friendly. The breakfast spread is limited but excellent in taste and quality. The inhouse Subko cafe is something to look forward to if you enjoy good coffee.
If you want to explore South Mumbai, the location is very convenient.
Overall, the experience was positive and I highly recommend the place.

Had a great experience at Abode Mumbai. It was warm, aesthetic and all things comfortable. Special mention to Nelcia who was super kind and made our stay better.

Enjoyed the stay and the staff were very friendly. Biggest draw here are the experiences thhey have on offer, especially the early morning tour, its a must do. Staff know your name, its a quaint little boutique, nothing too fancy, but in a great location and they do everything they can to make the stay comfortable. Also loved the 'make it yourself 'Sev Puri / high tea' on the Sat. Would definitely stay with again.

The place is cosy and is in ideal for a backpacker trip. A typical feel of a hostel with friendly staff. The place is spotless clean and very well managed. Though the rooms are small. But it's nice, cosy and stones throw away from gateway.

Very nice place to be when in Mumbai if you like it old fashioned but with fully modern amenities. Staff is kind and professional at any time. Rooms are well air conditioned. Ambiant street noise is inevitably present so ear plugs provided are welcome. The little coffee shop on the ground floor is also nice for a light lunch and /or coffee and cake.

This hotel is great; We stayed for two nights and had a lovely time thanks to the friendly team of Abode. The location is great as it is directly next to the Gateway of India, and a stone's through away from Colaba Causeway. As said, staff is great. Breakfast too! The only major disadvantage, especially when you try to combat jetlag, is that Abode is not very luminous. To be fair, one has to say that their smallest room, we stayed in, has now windows (they were transparent about that). Nonetheless, the common areas do not have light either. Up to any guest to decide if he is affected by that or not.

Amazing experience at Abode. The rooms are very comfortable, they are small but not stuffy at all. Super clean and were looked aftee daily. Breakfast spread had good choices and good amount to get started. Coffee was some of the best we've had during the trip in India. Standard of service is very high and staff were incredibly friendly. A true boutique style little place with a great vibe.

One of the best places to stay in the city. The rustic vibe is just amazing. I stay in Mumbai but I still went and stayed here because it's simply outstanding. Don't forget the have their breakfast. It's delicious.

We just checked out of Abode Bombay and have to share how great our experience was. From the moment we booked communication was great on email, we felt confident flying into Mumbai as we had a driver arranged (the hotel supports local female drivers) for our 2am arrival. Checking in at 3am was absolutely fine and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed (including making us toast and tea at this hour!) The hotel is located in a great neighborhood, you can walk to local sites / shops and markets easily. We were only there for 2 nights but next time we would utilize the hotel for their tours and also massage in the spa (the hotel supports local blind masseuse). The decor is modern but retains Indian heritage, rooms were clean and we had everything we needed. All in all a great stay and we highly recommend. Thank you Abode!

I loved my stay at this eco hotel. I would definitely come back if I want to stay in South Bombay.

Finding the hotel can be difficult. It's on top of a cafe. There is an old fashioned elevator which you can use to get to the first floor. When it's not being manned you have to operate it your self. This hotel did not seem to use plastic and provides guests with unlimited ionized water. Another highlight is that as the rooms do not have phones they provide guests with a non smart mobile phone which can be used to call the hotel and receive calls. Another nice little touch was the unlimited Parle G biscuits they offer for free.

The staff were so friendly especially Yuvraj whom I had been emailing before my stay trying to pick the right room. I stayed in room 109. I think it was a middle tier room (think it's the luxury room). The room was compact yet spacious. There was a living room which had more than enough space for multiple bags. Behind the door there were 2 bath robes hanging. The bed was very comfortable and what little I did sleep, I slept well.

The bathroom had a shabby chic look to it which worked well. There are plenty of towels provided. The sink was quite funky with a vertical slit to drain water. I spoke to another guest that said the design of the sink would not allow the washing of any clothes. The shower was good but it was open which meant that water would spill on the floor by the sink and toilet.

Breakfast is included. It's simple but very good.

I only had 2 issues which the hotel resolved. The first was no water one evening, the second was the air conditioner leaking.

They offer massage services provided by blind people. I had the ayurvedic massage. It was good and great value. I think I paid 2200 rupees

One of the other services the hotel provides are guided tours. I tried the street food tour and the dawn tour. I dont think the street food tour is worth it if you have eaten street food types before in mumbai (which I had). The dawn tour os defoantely worth it. You get to see mumbai waking up. It is surprisingly busy. You see the flower and vegetable markets in Dadar to the fish market. The price of the tours is 4000 rupees if on your own, 3000 if others kn the tour.

I think the hotel should publicise its eco credentials more. Definitely worth a visit. It's not the cheapest hotel and you could probably get a bigger room for the same price but for it was worth it!

Before arriving I set high expectation because the review on Booking.com was very high (compare to something 7 which is very popular around hotels in Mumbai. When I arrived late night I was a bit disappointed because the hotel was a boutique hotel hidden in an old building. However right the next morning I feel why this hotel was rated that high. The staffs were amazing! They take care of everything with heart - from serving breakfast, talking with customers, taking care of my room (I got flowers, some sweets and "Good night" note on my bed). I felt like home. The hotel was well decorated, bed was super comfy and breakfast was amazing. Food was tasty and they changed the menu everyday - which I really liked the way they put themselves very seriously on this.
However the most memorable experience was when I liked one travel book on their library and insisted on buying it. It's a good book about India and I felt bad if I took it away without exchanging something but the owner gave it to me unhesitatingly: "It's a gift. We want you to be happy".
Definitely will come back to the hotel next time.

This is a great place to stay, whether you're an American making your first trip outside the "first world" or a seasoned traveler of points remote. The staff speak fluent English and are tremendously helpful. The rooms are tastefully appointed and comfortable. The breakfasts are delightful and include both desi and angrezi options. And don't miss out on the early morning tour of the markets—not an experience you'll find elsewhere in Bombay.

A word of caution: booking services through the hotel does incur significant upcharge. We booked a taxi to Pune through them and later discovered we could've paid half the price by booking directly through a service like OlaCab. But it's a small complaint. I'm still giving Abode five stars.

From start to finish, I felt welcome and pampered. The place feels like you are at a friend's house.a friend, who has a great comfortable house, pampers you and makes sure you are having a great time during your entire stay!

Stayed at Abode for a few nights in July and found it absolutely delightful. Everything was done in a hip, vintage Bombay design, in the best way possible. I felt like I was in Wes Anderson movie. Staff were on point, really understand what guests need and generously catering to it. Simple but delicious breakfast with fresh fruits, yogurt, toast and a changing palate of beautifully prepared typical Indian breakfast options. On the day we left we had a late flight and they offered us a chance to take a shower! Such hospitality. Loved it.

Best place to stay if you want to explore all the major places in Mumbai, all are close by like Gate way of India, Mumbai Worli sealink, Chowpati Beach, Kaala Ghoda, etc.

Loved staying here! We booked a small room which was exactly as described. The location is fantastic, and a good breakfast included. The staff really make this place special - they are outstanding! Especially big thanks to Yuvraj for making our stay so great!

Great hotel, amazing location, very nice staff. The breakfast was excellent too. Unfortunately we booked late and therefore could only book one of the upper level rooms that has a bim and shared toilets. It caused several bumps in the head especially at night trying to reach for the washrooms. Would definitely stay again but would book earlier to get a high ceiling room!

My partner and I were amazed by the hospitality of the staff at Abode! The lobby is adorable with exposed wooden beams and a hanging chandelier, the breakfast each morning was delicious, lunch at the cafe downstairs is also great, and the hotel is located in a nice part of town. You get amazing service for the price, could not recommend enough!

My only other note - some rooms do not include windows, which was great for us because the sunlight did not interfere with our jet lag. But if you want windows, just double check before confirming your reservation.

We love Abode!
