My recent dining experience at Chopsticks Malabar in Viman Nagar was nothing short of exceptional. This cozy restaurant offers a delightful fusion of South Indian, North Indian and Chinese cuisines. Here are the highlights of my meal:
1. Vegetarian Kerala Thali (5/5) :
The Vegetarian Kerala Thali at Chopsticks Malabar is pretty good. It's a burst of flavors and a perfect representation of Kerala's culinary diversity. The thali included a variety of sabzis, and each one was a delightful surprise. The Pineapple Stew was a unique and sweet-savory treat, the Avial was nice, and the Sambar was the epitome of South Indian comfort food. The assortment of sabzis in the thali was extensive and all of them were delicious, making it a memorable and satisfying meal.
2. Vegetable Stew in Coconut Milk with Appam: (5/5)
The Vegetable Stew served with Appam was a culinary masterpiece. The appams were nicely fermented, achieving that perfect balance of softness and slight crispness on the edges. The stew was a harmonious blend of fresh vegetables simmered in creamy coconut milk, creating a savory delight. The combination showcased the restaurant's commitment to authentic flavors.
3. Biryani (4/5) : The Biryani at Chopsticks Malabar was indeed delightful. It had a rich aroma and a balanced blend of spices. The rice was cooked to perfection, and the biryani had a satisfying flavor. While it was not the absolute best biryani I've ever had, it certainly met expectations and was a flavorful dish.
4. Butter Paneer: (3/5) I did try this paneer dish during my visit, and I must admit that the quality of paneer was somewhat disappointing. It didn't have the freshness and softness I usually look for in paneer dishes. It was merely okay, and this aspect of the meal could certainly use some improvement.
The ambiance at Chopsticks Malabar is cozy especially at night (except that the staircase looks pretty old and needs renovation), and the service was attentive, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience.
I would highly recommend visiting Chopsticks Malabar in Viman Nagar for a great meal.
The best Kerala food you'll get in Pune. Appam and Kerala Parotta is a must try with a variety of non veg dishes. Veg meals is also an must try during lunch.
We frequently choose this restaurant for our office lunches because it offers a diverse range of high-quality non-vegetarian dishes. Our favorite items are the spring chicken and chicken masala served with lachha parota. If you're looking for an excellent meal that's both delicious and budget-friendly, we highly recommend paying them a visit.
Here you can find Authentic Kerala cuisine we have veg lunch there which is very good it is both veg and non veg restaurant. Non veg options are many here but veg options are also good and taste is Authentic
My visit to the restaurant left me with mixed feelings. The exceptional taste of the Special Fish Thali and the pleasant ambiance were notable highlights. Nevertheless, I urge the owner of the restaurant to proactively address the hygiene concerns to maintain the highest standard of dining experience and customer satisfaction. By doing so, the establishment will undoubtedly secure a loyal and contented customer base.
I had thalis here and those are amazing If you are fond of south Indian food this is perfect place Please must try porriza kojhu (sorry for mispronounced) Follow @traveleatrepeat on Instagram
This place gives a good feel of the Malabar Foods. I won't say you will get authentic kerala taste however its one of the best kerala restaurants in Pune. Cons are like not much of an ambience also issues with parking.
Something has changed with this place, in a bad way.
Yesterday I visited with a guest and looked forward to having their delicious Sadya.
Ordered two Sadyas, surmai fry and appams.
Sadya was cold as ice, nothing was tasty. The mor curry and sambar was stale. Buttermilk was frothing. Inspite of complaining, the two waiters insisted it was fresh. Waiters untrained and we had to remind them to bring the rice and other items.
It seems that the old staff including cooks have been replaced.
No manager available to give our feedback.
I do hope that Management will read my review and improve the situation.
Having said this, the surmai fry was served fresh, hot and delicious. Also the appams were good.
Disaster in one word. We went for dinner and ordered one veg and one chicken Thali & Veg pulav. Below are observations: 1. Kerala rice wasn't available! Not sure why we opted to sit in a Kerala Thali without Kerala rice. 2. We were served food after 30mins! 3. Rice was half cooked. 4. Curries and other items from lunch menu! 5. Curries were not even heated! Served COLD. 6. Chicken was literally two small pieces with little gravy. 7. Sambar and Curries were Below par 8. Veg pulav was Below basic one would expect. 9. Last but most important- NO ONE WAS WEARING A MASK!
I dont know about other items but personally I would never visit this place!
Very bad first experience and hopefully the last as I wouldn't want to get in here again.
Food here is good. Their head waiter Debashis is very friendly and helpful. He goes out of his way to make you comfortable and serve you what you want.
Went for a late lunch with family. They serve one of the best fish-fry that you can get. The service was excellent - you can ask for suggestions if you're unsure about what you want to have.
We had ordered malabar chicken Biriyani. The Biriyani turned out to be stale and smelly. We have been regularly ordering food from chopsticks, but this time it was horrible, never ever ordering food from here now.
This place provides you authentic Kerala food. The thali is something I will recommend. If you are first time visitors, you might vegetables bit odd like raw banana curry etc.but it's worth trying.
Worst Place to visit for Vegetarians or Anyone. I ordered Paneer Chettinad and I found BEEF pieces in it. I am a Vegetarian! Already the service was Horrible of this place!
I get home delivery from this joint. Rs 200/- with almost 6 bsji/ gravy 1 kheer 1 papad pickles 1 kerala Paratha, huge wty of rice. Boiled/ steamed. + Chaas We two people eat this 1 veg thali & also we keep teo vravy baji for javing witj rice in night.
Cost only 200 Rs.
Eg at Rs 100 one can have lunch & dinner. O ly s small portion of rice we cook in night.
I was at this place at the instance of a good friend (yeah mallu.guessed it right)! Firstly it’s a behemoth of a place with three different dining areas and a so so rooftop. Quickly settled in and ordered some hot and sour soup and a bowl of Lollypop Masala to start with. Suffice to say that the soup was thin and the underlying flavours was neither hot nor sour! Lollypop Masala on the other hand had a flavour of sezuan but too hot to handle even for my friend who can withstand Naga chillies! Tears were already rolling down! The fried batter coating on the Lollypop was hard! They could have done much better. Main course was some Porotta, appams and a dish of mutton roast! Porotta was crispy, flaky and soft. Appam was dog eared at many places which they agreed to change on considerable persistence from our side!
The mutton roast was the only respectable thing during the whole ordeal.well cooked chunks of meat in a nice spicy masala.
MELAMINE EVERYWHERE.this was the biggest turn off for me! With some good bone China and little bit more of effort on the Chinese spices this place could’ve done wonders for my palate but alas!
Highly disorganised and over crowded during festival days. This onam me and my family had to leave without having lunch as the crowd there was mis managed by the management.
Pre ordered onam sadya (3 days before). Kept us waiting for more than 2 hrs and still never called back or delivered the food. Extremely pathetic service and no value given to customers. If option was provided, would give minus. Never ever order from this place.
As I missed having the Onasadhya last weekend due to heavy rush at the restaurant. I went back to have their meals on the banana leaf. I must say I have been frequently visiting the place for years on end now and all I can say is the taste is the same as before. I was very impressed in how they have done up the entire restaurant and also the store that sells Kerala food stuff right from coconuts to the chips to the masalas.
Only one thing they need to work on - their staff waiting on people. There was too much chaos maybe due to less staffing and people having to wait to be served.
Overall highly recommended for an authentic Kerala meal. Worth the money.
Very bad we asked the waiter to give us a preferred table he was very rude about it, told us it will take half an hour to clean. So we left, obviously if you don't get the service you should you won't want to eat there
Authentic Kerala food. The captain was really vary courteous to explain the cuisine and invite me to their next Food Festival. I loved this restaurant and try to visit whenever I have a craving for Kerala cuisine.
It was a lovely place to have your meal which will give you a touch of Kerala foods taste. I born and raised in Kerala itself so I know the taste of Kerala foods especially of Sadhya (Kerala Veg Thali-Rice Plate). I really got the taste of it here for sure and I really got surprised after getting that taste here. Which make me to have a regular customer of them. I visit here whenever I gets time with my friends and family. Keep it up
I've been visiting chopsticks as a student. What makes me come back to this amazing restaurant is the taste and quality of the dishes they serve. Chipsticks is located in Vimanagar and has 2 branches in Pune. They serve delicious Kerala cuisine along with Chinese and North Indian. They are now renovating the place to accommodate more people, has rooftop seating with beautiful ambiance perfect for family, friends or couples. They also serve Sadhya- usually eastern on banana leaf during Onam a festival in Kerala. You can also do a take away during the pandemic on weekends the order is ready within 10-15mins. A must try is their Appam and Kerala chicken Chettinad. I am an avid lover of their Kerala porotha too. All chicken starters are good and the quantity of all dishes are decent to fill you.
I tried chinnesee, both veg and non veg. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for veg chinese lovers.tho non veg was too good. Must visit place for chinnesee (non veg) lovers.
Best Keralian food.having all the authentic food tast and awesome menu each day.service is just mind bowling.all the staff and services take care of all you need.those who want to tast food from gods own country can visit this restraurent for the geood food.i have been here with my love one at list once a month and we have been never feel disapointed.each day different menu.and best part is reasoable thali.we have stated till now
veg meal chikan meal fish mean fish fry Puttu Chattinad curry pyasam rassam yediaappam.papadum pickle
Excellent food.n good seating arrangements too.only yesterday we went there n this time we had prawns as well ; just like all other times, food was amazing. I would especially give a shout out to Debashis Mahto Ji.he was polite, courteous n took good care of us.he deserves a raise! Thank you for your service.
Good place for people who like South Indian food. I'd ordered Idiyappam, parota, chicken Chettinad, appam and another chicken dish. I like how fulfilling and tempting the food is. It was the first time i had idiyappam and the restaurant did peace with the dish. It was great.
Very disappointed with the food I ordered today for dinner. It was a take away order as I was at Viman Nagar and place order for chicken gravy with 6 parathas. The gravy was not cooked properly and all the spices was not grind as it was coming in every bite which was too irritating. I could not even go back and ask them to change it as it was too late to go back all the way from Kalyani Nagar and do that.
This was not expected or the restaurant knows that if it's a parcel they can give uncooked food knowing that customer not gonna come back to change it.
The staff is very fast. But the cooks are worst they cook food quickly and does not taste worth the money they charge. If you want to eat Chinese I suggest visit changs.
Food was extremely good. Authentic taste and hygienic. But the seating arrangement was far too congested. Could be a pleasant experience if this is taken care of.
I think the place is good, has very yummy South Indian thali. Only a little crowded and noisy, with no parking. But otherwise a great place for Malayali food!
One of the best places to have Kerala and Chinese food at one place. They have done the interiors recently so the place looks really nice. There have been changes to the taste of certain dishes.
Good south indian cuisine and ambience. Ambience of the new set up which is just behind the old one is good. Service is good. Food is their USP and the taste remains the same over all these years. A must go in case if u really want to explore and experience the best of southern cuisines for veg and non veg.
It's one of my favourite place to have Kerala food. This place has a good ambience. Rooftop sitting is also available.
Food here is very delicious. If you are a mallu (like me) then you should definitely come. Chicken tikka pepper fry is my favourite in starter. There is a separate section of Kerala dishes in menu. Here you also get Kerala style pappadam (papad) and appam (dish made with rice powder). Recently I tried here appam and chicken Chettinad which was mouth watering. Also I tried here Kerala parotha which was very soft.
Service here is faster for non veg dishes as compared to veg dishes as I have observed in my visit.
Both South Indian as well as north Indian people can come here as food is very rich in taste and is worth the money.
I am a regular visitor to this place, but now the restaurant has compromised on the taste and quality of food. Recently I had ordered Chicken Pepper Roast, the chicken was dry and stale and the waiter was not ready to buy opinion. I had to show him the chicken pieces which I had left in the plate to convince him.
Best place soo far with southern spice taste and menu. Parrota was really prepared like you would expect. All side dish that we tried were to its best. Worth a visit if you want to drop in for Kerala or Chettinad taste.
It is a perfect combo of lovely ambience and delicious food. The roof is decorated with artificial flowers with gives it a pleasant atmosphere. The food too is mouth watering. It provides a huge variety in food menu.
I loved the Kerala and Laccha Paratha here.
Only con is price being on the higher side i feel otherwise perfect place for a weekend dinner.
Place for south Indian delicious food varieties. Its know for kerala parota and especially kerala meals in afternoon. Its perfect place for team lunch. Renovated ambiance are better than usual. Only trouble is have to climb the steps and the services part will get delayed always. If you enough time to spend good to go.
