I've always been a fan of Gajalee Andheri East. So this time I decided to try the Vile Parle one. It is 5 to 7 minutes away from Ville Parle station by rickshaw.
Must Trys: - - Bombil - Grilled Pomfret - Prawn Masala - Vade - Neer Dosa
The food was delicious and the service staff were very attentive. The menu features an incredible variety of recent catches that have been cooked with skills and art. For exquisite items like crab, lobster, big tiger prawns they explain the price and the style of cooking, which is customisable as per your requirement and comfort. Great food and experience. Go with prior booking to get an assured seat.
The food was great as usual. We sat in the AC zone and so we couldn't order the Thali - that was a bit illogical. But we went ahead and ordered the same a-la-carte! Service was good.
Gajalee is one of Mumbai's OG seafood restaurants, frequented by many well-known people. Used to be, that is. It is now a pale shadow of what it was. The decor hasn't changed in over a decade, and the benches (there is no other word for it) are most uncomfortable.
The food is okayish. I say this with a lot of responsibility. In the early 2000s, when my partner and I used to eat here often, we loved the atmosphere, the food and the innovation. In 2021, it is not only passé, it is cringe at times with the servers still in Udipi restaurant mould with almost zero training in finesse and elegance.
The prices are not Udipi resturant levels, though. We have been to several expensive seafood and international cuisine restaurants that have the same prices or are even less expensive, yet, have better decor, better trained servers, and frankly better food. I won't name the Malvani seafood places here, but any food lover worth her salt will know what I am taking about.
The quality has definitely deteriorated, but so has the quantity. In many Mumbai restaurants, you will, in all likelihood, get at least 50% greater quantity for the amount you pay here. This does two things: one, it gives an impression of generosity to the customer, and two, it allows them to save money in case the food can be shared. This is not the case in Gajalee. It is neither generous not delicious. And it is not sumptuous. This was the case in the mid-2000s. No longer.
It seems like the beginning of the demise of another great seafood institution in Mumbai.
First time in Gajalee and YOU have to go! The Crab Soup is to die for. IT was so amazing and we are definitely be back again just for the Crab Soup. Prawns Biryani turned out to be delicious They made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience. One of the best place for seafood? Only issue is they don't accept cards for payment, Cash & UPI are the only option.
Extreme deterioration in the quality and quantity of the food. In fish gravy, only half piece of fish was served. Only 2 chapati in a thali, is it even justified In the name of full tandoori they serve only half tandoori.one leg piece in full tandoori.perhaps the chicken was lame. No value for money at all
It was stale food which was served to us. Despite complain Mr Mr Narain Chougule was very adomon and rude. I feel people should restrain going to such restaurant.
The food here is amazing, love the Thali they have outside.
Realized today that the "AC" section does not serve the Thali and we had to eat at the non AC section. Guess what the food makes you forget the time and space you are at and just enjoy the food and the taste buds take over.
We got two Thali and the crab and fish fry Mekrel to be specific.
Adding just the menu as when the food arrives you just gobble:)
The Crab in Malvani masala was very fresh. We had it with Chapatis and Ghavne (neer dosa).
The Koliwada Prawns were small and too few in quantity to justify their price. Taste wise also they were so so. Try the prawns at Jai Jawan (Bandra) instead.
Well, after being disappointed in my last visit to the Palladium outlet, on my friend's insistence I gave this a try again. But a disappointment again. Tried: Lobster Butter Garlic Starter, Prawns Thali. Portion, Taste and Experience not as great as the price. Especially against the plenty Coastal Cuisine diners available in Mumbai.
Good food, must try for seafood lovers, waiting of 45 minutes in peak time and thus plan accordingly, take-away will also take 45 minutes. Ingredients are fresh and key differentiation for taste.
The sea food is always fresh and well made. The staff is courteous and always helpful. Like the way they display fresh catch so you can choose for urself. Worth a visit at least once every month.
I simply love the deshelled crab in green chilli paste. I keep back to Gajalee outlets again and again year after year after year for this dish. It is the best crab dish I have ever eaten anywhere in the world.
If you love Fish, you can't go wrong with Gazalee. Great local style preparation with fresh fish. Try out their stuffed bombil n fish biryani.my personal favourites.
Awesome. Nice / Simple yet very warm place with very nice attentive service (one of the best I should say) Food as expected was extremely extremely yummy. Extremely reasonable (which was hard to believe) A must visit for all sea food & authentic food lovers.
Excellent succulent fish tikka, mouthwatering bombil fry which came with an excellent chutney I have never tasted ever before. Clams koshimbir, prawns curry with a gravy. Solkadhi. Well a cliche worth repeating.pet bhara par dil nai bhara. I am definitely visiting again
Good service. Excellent and consistent quality of food sustained over years. Prawn curry, tisra masala, fried bombil, surmai and prawns are exceptionally good. So is the Sol Kadi. Neerdosa and Vade are also great.
This has been my all time favourite since more than 20 years. Due to current situation, they have stopped thalis. They have also stopped online payments, so make sure you have hard cash when you go. Quality of food has remained consistent and is delicious as always. One of my all time favourites.
Restaurant is not operating on its full strength it has limited menu due to govt restrictions and less footfalls. The seafood what you visit for is among best.
One restaurant which is all about the food. Very basic, homely setting where you see people from all walks of life coming together to enjoy the fantastic seafood spread. Loved it!
Well to be honest! Not at all pocket friendly for the variety with respect to taste they are offering. I tried bombayduck fried, surmai fried, fish tikka and lobster. I can say everything was fresh for sure but the bombayduck, surmai tastewise and preparation wasnt upto the mark. Fish fry was definitely awesome and about lobster they give you option sizewise and yes its taste good but they dont really have variety to cook it. Staff is friendly and very supportive no doubt about that. If you are planning to visit this restaurant do try fish tikka and lobster for sure.
I have been there in 2018 and I loved the place, food and it was reasonable. But now when I went there the food was good but the price was very high as compared to the quantity which they are giving. Really very sad. Would not suggest to someone who is looking for budget food and good quantity.
Had went there with my family and we had heard a lot about this place. So thought to try some fish dish here which were the popular one but some were (most of them) were not available at that time. So I ordered prawns curry n bhakri n surmai thali but it was not available there no bangda thali was available but only left was pomfret thali which we ordered (no other option available), bombil fry. Staff very very nice, very cooperative, food service was just very fast. Food taste wise was ok ok for me. Didn't like it much as I had heard about it. Solkadi was not at all the solkadi, it was made with curd the kadi which we eat with khichdi. Just some kokam added it the curd kadi. Hope they get a good taste next time. N most of the menu food available
Absolutely below average hotel. This hotel holds a really great name and is very popular among people but has no taste to the food. No varieties at all. Has hardly 20 items in the restaurant. Below average taste and too costly. You can visit any other restaurant near by but surely not this.
The place is really hygienic. The food is mind-blowing. You should definitely try the crab tandoori. I personally love the place and my family loves this place too. The staffs are kind and their services are quite good. I mean if you are anywhere near just go the place believe me you'll love it too ️
Famous seafood restaurant in mumbai situated at vile parle. King prawns tandoori, stuffed bombil, fish fingers, surmai tikka and crab are must try dishes here. We ordered prawns sukha, pomfret tikka masala, surmai and baby shark curry for main course. All dishes were authentic malvani-goan. You cam have these dishes with amboli, ghavne (Thin rice dosa-neer dosa), bhakri, chapati and rice. For desserts you can try fruit custard, nachni custard and caramel custard. I definitely recommend this place to all fish food lovers.
