A place with great and fast service, good ambience and food. One must try kondu vegetable biryani, poraichi paratha paneer ghee roast tasted extremely delicious but some other items like kappa cutlet with idichammanti, neer dosa, idiyapam idli, needs some improvement. The coriander based brinjal curry that is vankaya kothmir koora and godhi roti needs a lot of improvement. It was the biryani and their quick service that just saved our dining experience and is therefore given 4 stars.
Best South Indian thali meals we had today for our lunch. Food is tastier. Every dish was authentic in taste. Service was excellent. No complaints whatsoever.
Ambience here lives to its name. Food, one must go with good Appetite, to truly relish the delicacy. Service speaks homely. Better book if you are going in holidays. They are quite busy. This place was a swimming pool time visit property during my childhood. I am now 59. Now you know why you can visit such a restaurant. It is in the heart of the city. You have vallet parking. There were some deserts display, but we didn't try it out. The waiting area has swing to relax. Fresh and quality food served humbly. I wish I find one more chance to hop into this restaurant. As i stay about 50 km away, i need to plan to come here. But still worth it. One must be affordable as well to pay the bill. But worthy of it. Enjoy.
Try the Astrologer sitting Just outside the restaurant entrance. He says he is sitting there for 2 and half decades. His telling means business. It was 90 %true for us, especially saying the characters of our children. We didn't get to go further deep.
Nice ambience and sumptuous food. Service is very good. Only one minor observation. I did notbsee anyone coming and asking for a second helping of rice or other items. Not that we required it but that would be a nice touch
Had some issues with food quality and same was addressed to thr Chef. They accepted and changed the dish. However these are not expected at such famous place.
Food was good and people were nice but the service could be better. We asked for wine and after it was served, the waiter tried to take away the bottle which still had some wine in it. We were a large group and had ordered aapams for everyone. At one end of the table they started serving the second aapam before the other end of the table had got their first. These are things that the waiters should be keeping track of. Then when we ordered a second bottle of wine, it took a really long time to come. After 15- 20 minutes, they brought it out and asked if they could serve it. We said yes and they took it in to open it and took a long time to bring it out again and serve it! So overall I would say service is slow and a bit disorganised. But the place is nice and I have to appreciate that this restaurant serves alcohol, which is unusual in Chennai.
Located the prime location, all kinds of amenities are available, Attended the Marriage Function, Marriage reception hall, food area, wash room, Furniture arrangements, all neatly maintained and excellent hospitality in all sorts of activities, my sincere appreciation to the Management
If you go to this restaurant make sure you take a table at the center part. We reserved a table by call and when we reached a corner table was given to us. Food was good in taste and quality as expected. The ambience was good with soothing mild instrumental music playing in the background. However, since we got the corner table, service was unresponsive and hard to reach. We ended up finishing lunch after the people who came around 1 hour after us and occupied the center table.
This restaurant ambience is good and the set up starts with an astrologer at the entrance. Entire setup gives a ancient vibe with swings and bells hanging on the interiors. The serving team wears a ln authentic uniform.
Excellent and authentic south indian food bringing great flavours from all the four states of south india. Very nice ambience too. I had vegetarian but my colleagues savoured the non-veg food as well. The halwa as a final dessert was finger licking tasty. If you need drinks, they had very limited options though.
Malgudi has a clear South Indian character, down to the astrologer sitting cross legged at the entrance.
The furniture inside is Indian and a couple of large swings as soon as you enter gives people waiting the chance to sit and rock away gently.
Mirrors on all the walls add to the sense of space. It is almost octagonal, with large bright paintings of the folk arts distributed across the interior.
We settled in for a light dinner - Aapams and vegetarian stew with a round of Vazhapoo (banana flower florets) vadas. They taste a lot like the lentil vadas, with a slight difference in the flavor.
Waiters are dressed in traditional attire and service is unobtrusive. There is a wide variety of fish and chicken dishes on the menu.
Prices are on the higher side but they have a clientele of regulars who have their own set of favorites. The food is definitely spicy - that's almost a given at Indian restaurants and this one explores dishes from each of the South Indian states.
Malgudi is the mythical village from author RK Narayan's well-loved books. However, there's nothing rural about this place in the middle of the metropolis. Even if there are props to create the illusion.
A South Indian themed restaurant inside the iconic savera hotel.
Location - located in the ground floor of Savera hotel.
Ambience - the entire ambience resembles a south Indian traditional House. The wooden swings at the entrance proves to be a big attraction. And there is a palmistry counter at entrance where we can freely check our future
Parking - wide parking area is available with in the savera hotel premises.
Food - we visited here to during the nanjil naadu food festival. It's an ala Carte menu with delicacies from Nagercoil, kanyakumari, Marthandam and trivandrum regions.
Since it's a special food festival menu, chef was there to explain the dishes Since it's a huge menu, am listing out my favourites in this spread. We started with the traditional sarbath (made using a famous brand in South - Raja sarbath) Also being a guy from South tamilnadu, I loved eating aviyal (mixed vegetable dish) and pazham pori (sweet banana fritters). In main course, the seeraga samba biryani was so tasty. One highlight dish I wanted to mention is the cheratta puttu (coconut shell puttu). Tasted amazing.
In desserts, we tried paal kozhukattai the unique dish from kanyakumari. Those are Sweet balls of rice cooked in coconut milk.
Service - you can experience Fine dining here with people always ready to serve you.
Pricing - all items are priced at 5 star level. And so it's unaffordable to visit regularly. But can be experienced during special occasions.
This place is so nice for both veg and non veg. They have wallet parking facility. Inside Savera, we have beauty parlour facility also. They have a swing at the entrance of the restaurant which attracts people coming over there. Also they have an astrologer in front of the restaurant. If we want we can predict our future with him. Lol. This place's interior is the Indo classical type. Very calm and quite restaurant.
The food is good. The thalis are insanely filling. But a nice place with a pleasant ambiance. Their prawn preparations were great. They lost a star in my review because of the Nethili Fry which was batter fried and that usually doesn't work.
Horrible food.forget chicken, prawns and other dishes. Their own speciality. Podi idli, appam, Thutavam edi dosa, mysore masala dosa. All were below average.
Our favorite restaurant in Chennai. Never disappointed us this year as well. Great food, great service and a courteous staff. Great place to dine authentic South Indian cuisine in a great ambience.
3 star is for ambience and service. I was there for lunch. Veg thali was the choice. Appetizers were good (wish we had order just that). Main course wasn't. East dish was decent (not good) on its own, but they didn't come together on the thali as a meal. For a thali that costed 1000+ it is not worth it. I wouldn't have had a problem if the dishes by themselves were atleast good, karma wasn't like it, idiyappam was sticky meaning less cooked, sambar wasn't to the level, beetroot had so much garlic, chenai/yam was too sticky for a dry curry. I can go on and on. I would look for a certain level with the reputation of Savera, but this was disappointing. Their Breath Room is a good choice.
Great, warm service. The food was excellent. Very good suggestions by the steward and deserves 7*. They even agreed to serve little late as we were late for our booking
Never get bored of visiting Malgudi.set in the beautiful theme of a traditional south Indian home, it serves a wide variety of dishes from all over the south of India. My favourite is their vazhappoo vada.for biriyani lovers their chicken biriyani is a must try.spicy and flavorful
Lovely! The gentleman outside the entrance of the restaurant who tells your future completes the magic of Malgudi. Tasty food, very attentive team and excellent service. Valet parking too is of great help. Hope to return.
We had non veg thaali here for the lunch.it is one of the worst items in the menu for a lunch. They served aalam, dosai, idiyappam for a lunch thaali. The taste was ok. We ordered mutton kulambu which was good the first time, the second time when we order the mutton was not cooked very well. The ambience was so good. But no good food.
