Indira Gandhi Planetarium

I was very excited to take the my children to the planeterium but it's under renovation and there is no information about the same in the website, it's hopeless. I travelled all the way to that place to find it closed for more than six months, this is the reason people have no expectation from anything under government work there is no accountability, common people like us suffer

This place is best example of Mismanagement of Public funds, although security personnel were there but what are they guarding. Old, obselete Projector, total waste of time and money.such a pathetic place. Responsible officers should b held accountable.

Indira Gandhi Planetarium is a unique attraction of Lucknow and is situated at Suraj Kund Park, at the bank of the River Gomti. The foundation stone of this grand building was laid by Hon. Late Chief Minister of U. P Veer Bahadur Singh on 28th Feb, 1988. It has been opened to the general public from 9th May, 2003 after being inaugurated by Former UP Chief Minister Mayawati on 8th May, 2003. Various important landmarks and places of attraction such as Rumi Darwaza, Shaheed Smarak, Residency and Bara Imambara are within one km from this novel air-conditioned planetarium.
The building is a virtual wonderland of astronomy where visitors can seemingly touch the stars and other celestial objects that take years or months to see otherwise on a space journey. The Government of Uttar Pradesh set it up with the following objectives:

To popularize science
1. To offer basic data about various astronomical aspects through shows and exhibits
2. To organize exhibitions, art and quiz competitions on astronomy for kids and grown-ups
3. To set up the amateur club and provide interested students and amateur astronomers with guidance.

Probably certain part of main Projector is not working, hence at present, it is not sync with audio. Wait till it gets repaired.

The Camera is NOT Working, You can hear only sound. The authorities are fooling people by still selling the tickets without any show. B. E. W. A. R. E

At a distance of 6 km from Lucknow Junction, Indira Gandhi Planetarium is a planetarium situated at the Surajkund Park neighborhood of Lucknow. Located on the banks of the River Gomti, it is one of the interesting places to visit in Lucknow.

The foundation stone of the Indira Gandhi Planetarium was laid in the year 1988 and has been opened to the public since 2003. The design of this planetarium is in the shape of Saturn with its five rings. Known worldwide for its uniqueness, the outstanding structure and design of the building attract a large number of tourists. Surrounded by a water pool with fountains, this 21-meter spherical building of the planetarium is specially designed to give an idea of crater formation on celestial bodies.

Indira Gandhi Planetarium is also popularly known for the Taramandal Show that starts with the description of the Chandrayaan mission to the moon. The Taramandal show explains every point to visitors in a very common language. The show explains space and the star's structure to visitors. The planetarium organizes four shows in a day that starts at 1 PM, 2.30 PM, 4 PM, and 5 PM. If there are a hundred or more visitors coming into the group then they can organize an additional show between 10.30 AM to 12.15 PM. In the summer, Planetarium can organize an extra show at 6 PM.

The planetarium also displays a beautiful gallery known as the Astronomy and Space Gallery which shows various Astronomy models and also gives information about the Indian space Missions. This completely air-conditioned planetarium has a state-of-the-art projection system, which gives special effects while projecting. Art projecting system, digital sound, and lift-ramp for handicapped persons are the other facilities available here. During celestial events like the Solar and Lunar Eclipse special programs are organized.

Government should consider formally closing it down. Bcz it's almost like closed. Disinterested staff who dnt want any visitors. It's a sheer wastage of resources. I remember going there as a kid and enjoying the shows. It's sad to see this place in so much disgrace.

Inside the show hall there is no discipline, some use there mobile continuously, some turn on there flash light for fun.its too much annoying. Please maintain discipline.

Disappointed, the projector doesn't work properly. Can barely see anything. The video is way to old and hasn't been updated to the recent technology.

A lot more can be done with the place to revive it.

If you are tired and tortured by Lucknows's heat and want AC hall for an hour you can definitely go there and just relax just for Rs. 25.

Good demonstration. However more care is to be taken for proper maintenance so that all portions are open for visitors.

In 1913, an astronomer, Max Wolf of Heidelberg Observatory, discussed with Oskar Von Miller, founder of the Deutsches Museum, the possibility of a display which would show the motions of the sun, moon and planets within a dome of spherical curvature. In this device, light comes through hole in a darkened dome under which the audience sits. Miller proposed this project to the Zeiss Works but preliminary investigations were interrupted by World War I. This place is just not worth it.
The entry is only at 1pm, 2: 10 pm, 3: 20 pm and 4: 30 pm. If you reach in between, you cannot enter. There is a 45 min show each. But projectors do not work at all. So there is only sound.
All the models are there in a single small room. With just 6 models.
Simply a waste of time. Science Center and zoo are far better.
The staff is also not polite.
Entry cost is Rs 25. Parking is Rs 10.

The footage is mostly damaged. Yet would recommend to visit and take your children along. Worth giving it a try for rs25

Don't even think about going there. Projectors are not working. It was pitch black in the hall. We moved out in just 10 seconds after the show started. It was so bad. The staff was rude. They were shouting at us for leaving the hall early. This place will be closed in 2 months and renovation will be done.
It was an extremely bad experience.

If anyone is planning to visit it, you are simply going to waste your time.
They have not maintained the place at all and the chairs were full of dust.
I don't know why they are fooling everyone by running the shows because it's of no use, the projector doesn't even work properly and 90% of the things are not even visible during the show.

Indira Gandhi Planetarium stays open all days a week, except Monday. Tourists can visit the place from 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening. Besides, it is also important to know about the show timings which is held at 1: 00 PM, 2: 30 PM, 4: 00 PM and 5: 00 PM. In the summer vacation, an extra is show is organized at 6: 00 PM.

Worst Planetarium ever, do not visit this place, they are just looting people. Before buying the tickets, the employee said that we won't be able to see few images because the projector was facing some difficulty. But when the show started, 80 % of the images were not visible plus they were allowing people to enter the theatre after the show was started. It was a frustrating experience.
To everyone visiting Lucknow, do not visit this Planetarium.

The building of the Indira Gandhi planetarium is having a shape of Planet Saturn. The ticket is very cheap, just 25 Rs for a show. Both Hindi and English shows are played there.

It need a major renovation and updated movie. It seems the same movie is running for decades.

This is very ordinary place. The show is worst.ruined my 2 hrs here. Projector is not in proper working condition. Audio sound is much boring. Couldn't had wasted my time before like this.visit at your own risk. Nothing special to watch in gallery which is on ground floor. The only special thing here is the building of this auditorium.

Very bad place. Main high tech revolving Projector was not working. Show was completed with a small slide projector only. No effect of round dome. Worst ever seen. Waste of time and money.

It is a great place to visit especially for kids. Various space and universe related movies are shown. Infrastructure is great. Good seats and air conditioned.
One can easily get lost in the endless mysteries of universe!

Bad ️ projector the voice and the projection are not linked view inside the hall good but seating facilities bad need so much improvement, not even close to nehru planetarium in Delhi

Nice place, but lot of improvement needed. Need renovation and updation. They are showing same show which they were playing so many years back also. Video and audio quality also become so old. If you are free and for children time pass you can go otherwise nothing entertaining there, neither much knowledgeable thing there

It was an amazing experience. Looks Jupiter is seen on the front but is shaped like a Saturn with a ring. You can go with family, friends and children. If you come lucknow with children, then you should probably visit this planetarium.

एक बार अवश्य दर्शनीय स्थल है, जो एक सरकारी उपक्रम है। जिनको खगोलशास्त्र में रुचि है उनको यह स्थल अवश्य ही देखना चाहिए। यह सौर मंडल की आकृति में बनी हुई इमारत है जिसके भीतर अद्भुत दृश्य देखकर दर्शक भौंचक्के रह जाते हैं और बच्चों के बाल-सुलभ मन पर इस स्थान की एक अमिट छाप अंकित हो जाती है। यहां पर आने का साधन चारबाग स्टेशन से टेंपो के द्वारा कैसरबाग बस अड्डे तक आने और फिर दूसरे मार्ग का टेंपो पकड़ कर इंदिरा गांधी नक्षत्रशाला तक आया जा सकता है। निकट ही सूरजकुंड पार्क है जिसके बारे में प्रसिद्ध है कि यहां पर स्वाधीनता संग्राम हुआ था।

Awesome place to visit your time with your family and children. It will be educational visit for you. And you will not be disappoint after a visit of this place. Staff was not supportive. And i liked the rest. Learn and fun all together

Not worth to go and spend your time and money, below average place. Video quality is also poor. At first you will feel like you have some eye problem. Chairs make too much noise. Instead go to any park.

Very pathetic experience they switched off the AC it was so very hot the video wasn't working properly all we saw was some photos like 6-7 and stars that's all in such hot pathetic place in short you can see the sky it's better

I HATE IT. IT WAS JUST THE WASTE OF TIME BECAUSE THE SCHEME HAS EXPIRED ON 2013. AND WHEN WE COMPLAINT AGAINST IT THEY WERE CRUEL TO US. IF YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME PLEASE MOVE AHEAD.

It's very knowledgeable visit and tickets are not costly. Price of the ticket and snacks in the cafeteria are affordable. Taking photographs is not allowed inside the show premises. Belongings are normally asked to be kept at the entrance point. Eatables too are allowed only in cafeteria. Dustbins inside the premises are in the form of Adorable dolfins and other cartoons. Planetorium from inside is surrounded with greenery, shrubs and flowers. The place is clean and properly maintained. Generally people visit with their children and and family. Single show has multiple timing in a day. The place is safe and is under security of state police. This is located opposite to the SP office of Lucknow. It is easily visible in the traffic on road trip. There are NO ATM's and public toilets nearby.

In my case they let me enter at 3: 50 while my show timing was 4: 00
As i am a student In ten minutes how i can scan the whole picture gallery and understand the nuances of the astrology
