Tasted the "famous" masala tea (Rs. 15) here today. It was not good on taste, there were hint of spice in tea which was good but milk itself was too watery. Khasta kachuri was ok.

This is one of the best and oldest food joints in burra bazar, the store mainly serves South Indian dishes along with Chai. The joint serves pure veg food avoiding onion and garlic.

Tasty and yum bites in a budget. So on a busy shopping day one can have a great food experience at burrabazar. If Ambiance is a concern then avoid this place.

When you get exhausted amidst nonstop shopping in the chaos of burrabazar, the tea that this place offers can recharge you greatly

Nothing to say much. Only name is enough but yes the name is not made over night. They provide tea, snacks in very reasonable price just beside the hyped overpriced Tewari bros. Crowd says the word, anyone can understand standing in front of the shop. This is one of the oldest shops in this area and still carrying on business without unnecessary price hike. Hope this will carry on and be the people's shop for tea break and snack out without giving much pocket pinch. Liked it, one of my recommended shops.

First thing first, it is pocket friendly and at the same time tasty! Whenever I go to "Barabazar" I usually eat at this place. You should definitely try the dosa and the lassi, and also don't forget to taste the "chai"

Bapu tea stall is a great place to eat in a very busy place like barabazar. Their prices are affordable for every pocket and quality of food is also fair.

You get the quality food items and tea as well. As the name suggest you get nice tea and even they server coffee too. And the morning and evening snacks items are also delicious and quality. You get what you paid. I never feel my money is waste here, they are variety of snacks and also setting facilities and all the staffs are friendly.

This used to be a hotspot for tea lovers in Kolkata. Situated in main burrabazar area this is one of the oldest tea shop in Kolkata. But somehow the quality of the brand has degraded from time to time.

According to National Sample Survey Organisation data, India consumes 15 times more tea than coffee. [19] Tea is made both at home and outside. Outside the home, tea is most commonly and easily found at the tea stalls that dot just about every street in India. Post the success of coffee chains of Barista and Cafe Coffee day, the tea stall has become a part of the urban landscape with several tea themed cafe chains like Chaayos, Chai Point and Tea Trails taking root in metro cities in recent years. [20] Tea is now a cultural institution, even celebrated as in the recent art exhibition titled "Chai Wallah and other stories" by the artist Vijay Gille. [21] "Chai Wallah" is the Hindi title accorded to the man who runs the tea stall. The 2014 general elections also saw the election of Narendra Modi who worked for his father's tea stall as a child. [22] The phrase "Chai-Pani" literally meaning, tea and water, is used to offer welcome drinks and facilitate guests in houses of India.

According to the historian Lizzi Collingham, the taste for tea was developed in India through a dedicated push on the part of the producers of tea once tea production in India gained momentum. [23] Initially, free samples of tea were offered from horse-drawn carts belonging to various companies. As early as 1907,  Brooke Bond, an English tea company started experimenting with a fleet of horse-drawn vans for distributing teas. The British tradition of taking tea with a little milk and sugar was introduced along with the samples.

Unlike the British cup of tea, tea in India is not served in a set where the leaves are steeped separately. Typically, tea in India is consumed with both milk and sugar but the tea leaves are not prepared separately by being steeped. Instead, the tea leaves are boiled along with additions and then boiled again after the addition of milk and sugar. Sometimes the tea leaves themselves are used as flavouring. In many parts of the country, the most special tea is one where the tea leaves are boiled solely in milk.
