Though, this place is named as Cafe, however it’s a cabin, a really old one at Hazra Crossing, standing tall since 1937. I visited this place for the first time and checked out the history that the wooden doors and windows, chairs and benches, the marble-top tables had to offer.
Ordered a Chicken Fry immediately which was served with boiled potatoes, salad and the essential Kashundi. Not every cabin of Kolkata offers you a dessert but this place is pretty famous for their Pudding (loaded with nuts and raisins) and therefore, I had to try it. I loved it. Since I was alone, I couldn’t try the other items like Fish Fry, Stew with Toasts, Chicken Afgani, Fish Chops & Vegetable Chops. I could have tried Fish Roll but I wanted the taste of Campari’s Fish Roll to be in my mind atleast for some more days.
If you’re nearby this area, you can pay a visit. You will see some young people coming here, some old couples too for some quick snacks and some ‘every evening’ gangs for their daily dose of adda with chai and snacks. You will get your dose of tea and coffee too. Open from 3 PM to 9 PM, everyday. Last, but not the least, this is perhaps one of those rare cabins still operating in South Kolkata. Sangu Valley can be considered as another one but I refuse to accept the fact since they renovated themselves.
We ordered mutton cutlet, chicken cutlet (fry), fish fry and fish chop and Tea. Mutton cutlet is ok type Chicken cutlet has no taste Fishes are not fresh and smells bad . We complain about the service but the staff don't even care about it and completely deny their mistake.
Once you step into this age old pre Independence cafe, the time seems to be stopped. A vintage charm, some nostalgia will gulp you. I really like their Gravy Mutton Chaap with slices of bread. The taste is on the sweet side which I really enjoy. But the showstopper is the Pudding. I have never eaten something so sumptuous, so spoon-licking good food. A must try for all 'Calcutta'-lovers.
I LOVED the place! It's a pure bliss to spend a summer evening with tea, chicken roll and the elegant pudding the cafe is famous for. Located just beside Jatin Das Park Metro gate no. 2, I went there when the sun was about to set, around 4 PM. The golden rays of sun that falls directly inside the cafe with golden furnitures elevates the ambience one can only experience rarely. Very peaceful place to visit with friends, colleagues or even by oneself. The taste of the roll was good (won't hype too much), tea was fine and the pudding was really fulfilling. A bit pricy but worth it. It's a must place to visit. The vintage Kolkata cafe is well defined by them.
We had pudding and fish fry, the quality of the food is good but it is bit pricey. The options are very limited and one has to choose from only few items.
Now the cafe is running a bit busy. As regular customers of this cafe, in the last few visits, me and my friends have been utterly disappointed. The amount of food is very low, the food is low in salt, and the texture of the pudding has deteriorated significantly. Every time we addressed, we were very casually ignored. Never coming to this place anytime soon, at least not before they improve their service.
This 86-year-old cafe is located near the Hazra area. This place can accommodate a maximum of 10-12 people at a time. Recommended items: Chicken afgani, Bread pudding. Also, the foods are very reasonably priced. Would love to revisit.
Epic vintage 1937 cafe. Serves amazing mind blowing snacks. Super fresh n yumm. Fish chicken everything is so good. So fresh. Melts in your mouth. Must must visit. Chaa 30rs black coffee 20rs.and it's super yumm.
Kolkata's most underrated cafe. One day i was passing by Jatindas Park Metro and saw this cafe.
I ordered a cup of coffee along with fish chop. They serve fish chop with handmade kasundi along with boiled spices potatoes and salad and this is their specialty. It was spicy and I loved it.
Also, the staffs were polite. Hopefully I will try 2-3 more items in future which are almost signature dishes there. The interior color of the cafe is nice and the place is neat and clean.
Old part of kolkata.with purano kolkata atmosphere.i visited before also. And yesterday it was just a quick visit. Actually i love this kind of vintage cafe. Cause i love my old kolkata
I cannot explain in words, how fulfilling this place is:) the welcoming ambience, the wonderful taste of food, the smile with which the food is served.everything will guarantee you an experience of a lifetime.
Cafe isn't your usual place where you can rate the service in terms of points or stars. If you're looking for good food, a place to spend time with your friend or loved one or even a place to spend time with yourself all alone, then please consider visiting Cafe.
The Pudding and the chicken cutlet are my favourite. Will definitely try the other items on the menu!
A place from decades in the past still stands behind the Jatin Das Park metro and serves some fried goodies for its regulars and newcomers. Although it isn't anything special as far as the food goes, maybe a bit overpriced considering the food itself also, but it's still worth a single visit just to see how it houses a place for people coming here for ages. I tried the chicken afghani which was alright and the pudding which looked better than it tasted.
The vintage 'cafe' at Hazra more is legendary! Established in 1937, this place serves limited items. Among them, the Bread pudding is iconic. It is mild sweet and soft, tastes amazing! Soak in the vibe and enjoy your food. Staffs are very well behaved and welcoming. Service is fast. The cafe is perfect for a quick bite. Nearest metro: Jatin Das Park.
I visited this place only once in my life when I was in school back in 2012. It instantly reminded took back to retro movies of 70s. This is not just an eatery it's a time warp! I will visit soon again. No matter what is the price or quality of the food is it's my request to the owner please don't close this shop ever!
Long surviving cafe. Running 80+ years (precisely 83). Its give you a feeling like separe time zone of 60s or 70s. Few menus, but delicious and quality food. Friendly staffs. Entering here would definitely remind you about your college life. Located very very close to Jatin Das Park Metro Station (Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital side). Do not step in if you want pizza, burger, chowmin, pasta etc. And also do not enter if you need air conditioned cosy atmosphere. Go here with your childhood friend and relice your old memories with a mouthful chicken cutlet or fish fry and tea / coffee.
