One of its kind. Whenever I visit Kolkata, a visit to dakshineshwar Kali temple is must. The vibes are different. These days mobile phones are not allowed inside but when I last visited 7 years back, they were allowed. Few of the pictures attached shows inside of the temple from 7 years back.
Even outside the temple you can enjoy river side views or enjoy a boat ride. There's like this temple in North India as far as I know.

There has been no time, when i have visited Howrah & I have not visited Maa. This place has its significance historically and culturaly. Its architecture is also very famous & one of its kind. Gives Peace. All facilities are available from Prasad centres to mobile, shoe counters. I would recommend you take your own prasad as prasads selling inside premise is bit not fresh & not pure peda as they claim. Even saree they give is of worst textile. Breakfast centres are also there.
Dakshineswar temple, a temple of Ma Kali on the bank of river Hooghly. It has a skywalk to reach there, I guess it is from the metro station directly landing in front of the temple.
It has a head temple of Ma kali and 12 other temples of lord Shiva. The temple has big courtyard both inside and outside. Your shoes, bags, mobiles are not allowed inside the temple, they can be deposited on the counters on charge basis.
There is market inside the temple campus which offers Prasad and religious items. A small eatery which offers puri-sabji, drinking water, lassi, idli, dosa is in the compound. I would suggest to better look for restaurant nearby due to hygiene concern.
Outside the temple to the right you will find small market (religious items and women's jwellery) upto the ghat where you can take ferry boat for belur math (10 rupees per head). Towards the left of the temple main market and residential area is there.
The Dakshineswar temple was built by Lokmata Rani Rashmoni for Goddess Bhabataarini and has been immortalised by the divine presence of Sri Sri Thakur Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Sri Sri Ma Sarada. Located beside the majestic Bhagirathi river, this temple also has a Radha Krishna Mandir, ten Shiva temples, a huge Naat mandir and the room where Sri Sri Thakur stayed. It also has a room where Sister Nivedita first met Sri Sri Sarada Ma. The mandir complex is exquisitely maintained, with proper security, sanitation and discipline. The sebaiyats or priests are extremely affable and kind. There is a large water-body beside the temple. Two separate parking lots are present, along with elaborate security structures, and a unique storage locker facility for keeping valuables belonging to devotees, which are to be submitted during the time of visit, and returned after the visit, as also a shoe storage facility. There are separate shop- complexes where one may buy Puja requirements such as sweets and offerings for the deities, as well as collectibles such as photos, calenders, images, shiva-lingas, Puja utensils etc. Outside the mandir, there is a beautiful garden known as Panch vati (lit.five gardens) which is said to be frequented by Sri Sri Thakur, his disciples, devotees and famous seers such as Trailangya Swami. Devotees after offering Puja can also relish Puri - sabji, dosa, tea and coffee at the restaurants (now being made into a restaurant and hotel complex) Devotees can use the swanky Skywalk to reach the temple complex, after alighting from the Metro, or bus, or train. The place is well-connected, and one can also visit Addya Peeth, Belur Math and nearby Bhagirathi ghats after the visit.
Calm and energetic. When crowded you witness the immense bhakti, when deserted you get to see the idol and absorb the power this place has. My favourite place to just sit, meditate, take bhog prasad, take a dip in ganga! Joy Maa
Starting in january so much crowd. It's a kali Maa temple. Do not carry so much heavy luggage when visit. There is not allowed any phone, bag in temple. You have to deposit in temple's store. This is also has long queue.
Previously Dakshineshwar was a quite nice place for Worship. Now it has became very noisy & business oriented place. Overall too much restrictions of security guards makes this holy place a tedious place.
Devine architecture of various models can be seen in 1 temple at the bank of Ganga, The holyness of the environment is enough to make you calm and peaceful.
Who am I to rate this so beautiful, peaceful, positively energetic place. Whenever I visit Kolkata, I'll definitely try to visit Dakshineswar Kali Mandir at least once. According to me, if you are going to Kolkata and you have a bucket list of places you'll visit, this place should be on the top. The energy you feel after visiting the temple is on next level. No Mobile or Camera is allowed in the Temple Campus but You don't have to worry about it, The Management provide you a good locker to safely store your valuables before entering the Temple. There is also 12 Shiv Lings in the Temple Campus which represents The 12 Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva. You should must visit them too. There is also a room of Ram Krishna Paramhansa. The view from River is also Amazing. There are few rules and regulations changed after Covid Lockdown but You don't face any problem there. Only Prasad, Chunni or Saree etc is allowed to get entered in the temple after Covid, I mean now you can't buy Sindur, Flower along with Prasad. This All information I am providing here is what I seen in my last visit and What I got remembered at the time of Writing this Experience (I can't review a temple). So if I mention something wrong, Make me correct and Sorry for that. At last I conclude this experience note with Don't forget to keep your Mask It's must for entering the temple. Use it properly Stay safe, Stay Healthy. Jai Mata Di. Jai Maa Kali.

Dakshineswar Kali temple is quite a famous and very popular Kali temple. Apart from Kalighat this is probably the second most famous temple located in close proximity to Kolkata. One of the best thing about the place is that it has huge campus and hence even during rush you don’t really feel the crowd. It has a rich history as well with Ramkrishna Paramhansa, his wife Sarada Ma and Seami Vivikanada gracing the place during its hey days. You can see the room where Ramkrishna stayed and the bed he used to sleep in, apart from other daily use things of his. So in a nutshell, this temple is not only a place of worship but also a place of rich history. Finally, it’s location in the bank of Ganga makes the place quite scenic. One can enjoy a full day here where one can get a small doses of religion, history and scenery.
The Kali temple is unique for its color combination. Though we had to wait for a long time to see the idol of kali mata, we hardly see about it. During sunny midday, the surface of the interiors becomes so hot. But my experience was not so bad.
A Non Orthodox Hindu Temple of Maa Bhabatarini Kali. A peaceful place to spend a day. Bank of river Ganges is also beautiful for spending leisure time & to view sunset & to view Vivekananda Bridge in evening.
Love the temple and it's environment. As always feels too good to visit temple live the positive Vibes and calmness of the place. Visting Dakshineswar Kali temple and not having a ganga snan is not an option. Do visit the temple. But we aware and keep your belongings safe.
Great place! Though it is little bit crowdy but still one can kind peace over there.the beauty of ganga river, the devotio of people.everything was amazing!
Location wise very good. The entry and exit inside the temple is very systematically managed. You can park your vehicle inside the temple complex on a chargeable basis. Counters are provided for keeping your belonging (chargeable). The famous Kachori and Cholar Dal is a must try when you visit here. A very beautiful view of Ganga can be seen from the temple.
This is Kolkata's most famous and India's one of the best know temple, calm tidy and clean place. If you really want to visit a temple and find peace this is the place for you, no unintended money grabbing or anything, anmazing environment and tasty food. Most importantly maa Bhabatarini or everyones maa kali, look at her and you will find peace. Definately visit this place.
A holy place for Hindus. Extremely busy during weekends. Nice big area. People can have a nice day trip nearby. Adyapith is very near to this place. A rickshaw ride can take you there. Metro services have made this area extremely well connected and easy to commute.
Nobody over here offered me the devotee something called ‘Prasad’, instead the pandit put his hands at the treasury box so I can’t even donate with peace! I suggest permanent deposits from people visiting the temple at the entrance and free distribution of Prasadam Rest the administration can take care!
I don't have enough words to express my feelings for this place.it is so beautiful along with the new connected skywalk.really may maa bless you all.hope we'll visit soon. Joy Maa

Historical and famous. It would be better if you first know the mysticism and then visit it. A perfect place to know yourself and meditate. The Kali is the centered goddess.there is also 6x2 temples of shiva and bishnu on the each side of the central structure. Mamata bannerjee's skywalk has marked as an additional remark on the ease of access. And nothing to say on the environment.it's beautiful, mystic and peaceful.
It is a peaceful place amidst the bustling environment outside. It is usuallly crowded all the time. There are benches inside by the river bank to sit and relax. The view is magnificient, combined with the railway bridge crossing the river. You can feel the vibrations as the train passes over the bridge. The ghats are also an ideal place to sit and relax.
Very good place to must visit atleast once in a lifetime…Locker facilities for shoes, baggage and smartphone's are available. Car parking is also too available. The place just went through a construction of the skywalk which connected the temple main gate directly to the railway station. Ferries (lounges) are also available for going to Belurmath through ganga river.

All prayers to Maa Kali the Mother of the Universe. The temple is very beautiful and the Darshan of Maa is very divine. She seems to be extremely happy after witnessing all her devotees who come for her darshan daily. The temple has three main temple structures. The main Kaali Maa temple, Vishnu temple and 12 identical Shiva Temple and the Kaali Ghat at Ganga banks. HISTORY: Dakshineswar was a small village along the eastern banks of the River Ganga. Dense forest surrounded the area where the famous Dakshineswar temple stands today. It was 300 years back when Rani Rashmoni, founded the temple. Rani Rashmoni following a dream she saw when she was about to start on her pilgrimage to Benaras. A long term plan of the Rani materialized which she had longed to perform when her husband died with unfulfilled wish of constructing a Kali temple. The temple was dedicated in the name of Rani's Guru, and Ramkumar, was the head priest, who installed the idol of Kali in the new temple with a grand splendor on Thursday, 31st May, 1855. The famous Dakshineswar temple which houses the Goddess Kali was founded by Rani Rashmoni following a dream she saw when she was about to start on her pilgrimage to Benaras. A long term plan of the Rani materialized which she had longed to perform when her husband died with unfulfilled wish of constructing a Kali temple. A dynamic woman, Rani Rashmoni took over the administration of the enormous estate her husband left her. The benevolent administrator, Rani Rashmoni was always in conflict with the stringent British laws and policies
she instructed her trusted people specially her youngest son-in law to look for plots to construct the Kali Temple. After a massive hunt for suitable plots, a 20-acred plot in the village of Dakshineswar was selected. The land resembled a hump of a tortoise. One part of this land belonged to a European Christian while the other part was a Muslim burial ground. The Rani began to construct this Hindu temple in 1847 on this very ground thus integrating different faiths. The Deed of endowment states “In order to fulfill his wish, on 6th September 1847 I purchased 54.4 bighas of land at the cost of Rs. 42 thousand and 500 from James Hasty. I made to build a puca Navaratna temple, twelve Shiva temples (twelve jyotirlingam), a Vishnu temple and a Natmandir on the land. On 31st May 1855 I placed luxminarayan Shila in the Navaratna temple as per the wish of my late husband and also for the welfare of his soul. ” The deed was executed on 31st May 1855.
Swami Saradananda mentioned in the Lilaprasanga, 'It is recorded in the Endowment document that the land of the Kali temple complex is 60 bighas. ' In the paper itself, we come across the fact that the plot calculated to 54 1/2 bighas, with the surroundings of the Ganges in west, the land of Kashinath Roy Choudhury in east and the constructions of John Hastie in south. Later a part of the plot was used for a railway line and for the Vivekananda Bridge. So the current sum of the land mass is around 58 bighas.
