This place is called the heart of Bhowanipore and there is a reason for it. The name Deshbandhu market has been named after Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das who was an Indian freedom fighter, political activista and a lawyer during the Indian Independence movement and political Guru of Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He was also the founder-leader of Swaraj party in undivided Bengal during the period of British colonial rule. After decades of its establishment of this market which initially started as a clothes market, it is now a hotspot for other attractions too. Due to its on road location and a densely-populated harmoniosly thriving diverse population it had rapidly developed to be a go to place for home accessories, furniture, sweet shops, restaurants, hotels, street food corners and fresh fruit and vegetable searching Hawkers' corner. It is also famous because of Vivekanand Mela, a widely famous winter book-fair cum mela held in Kolkata every year nearby the market, hospitals, cinema halls, and as a home place of some famous apparent and past celibrities and politicians like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, Mamata Banerjee and many more.
Bonus tips: Visit Jadu Babu Bazaar too to taste sweets from some of the oldest as well as famous sweet shops of Kolkata
