This is a very old condiment / sweet shop of Kolkata. The legacy goes beyond 170 years. They are specialist of making dry sweets. Highly recommended sweets to get from here - Gud Monohora, any variation of Jolbhora Sandesh, Any variation of normal Sandesh and Malai Singara. Malai Singara can be somewhat rich for some people.
One of the most prestigious shops in Kolkata situated just opposite to Hedua Park in Bidhan Sarani. This age old shop serving sweets since 18th century still retains the taste and variety at a higher price. Cards are accepted for paymemt but the crowd here is an absolute mess. The authority needs to handle crowd management as quarreling in queue is an everyday affair. Behaviour of this shop caretakers is also on the rude side but the heritage and tradition subdues it fully. Definitely a must visit sweet shop in Kolkata!
Right opposite hedua park. Near vivekanand road. The sweets are awsome and expensive too but its great. There are lots of other sweet shops in that area too. So enjoy
It is my most favourite sweet shop. I have been purchasing sweets from this shop since early sixties. The Jalvara talsans notun gurer is really a delicacy.
Always be prepared to 1. Spend more because the price is higher here 2. Stand & wait no matter which time of the day you come here 3. Staff not even acknowledging you or the time you spend waiting here because another customer is buying sweets worth a million dollars. 4. If you ever are in a hurry & request quick service, you will be shouted at by the shopkeeper.
I had the worst experience with customer service here. It happened few years ago too but I had overlooked it. The saddest part is, in the meantime I had recommended this shop to so many people & brought them so much business. The last time I visited the shop I was treated terribly even after keeping myself, my car, my aged grandmother waiting for an eternity. Worst part is when I asked is this how customers should be treated, the man lied outright.
If you are a millionaire or your hobby is getting treated badly this is highly recommended. Otherwise your self respect & money is something that can be valued easily by all the other sweetmeat shops in the area. Never trusting repeat offenders again.
1. It's reduced only to a brand now, with a photograph of a so called popular hero of bollywood, as if there has never been any "celebrity" in Bengal, who visited this shop. The shop gravely downplays importance of Bengali Icons who have been aplenty, in Calcutta. 2. The sellers use the same unclean hands to pack sandesh in the box, with which they receive, count and return currency notes and coins. Nothing could be more unhygienic than this. 3. The sandeshes have been made to lose their character and identity by the owners of this shop, in the name of artificial and cheap modernization. They mix various flavours in Sandesh, an act that defies the very intrinsic trait of a classical sandesh. 4. There is no organised system of sale of sandesh. If you are a local goon, you enjoy the authority of jumping the queue and you are served first. 5. Most of the times one of the two sellers, is busy packing sandesh for bulk orders and the long queue gets served by a single salesman who serves sandesh and counts money as aforesaid. 6. There are a row of shops down the same lane that serve nearly the same quality of sandesh but they can't flaunt the photo of any bollywood hero, no matter how hopelessly zero these 'heroes' are! I hope the owners would consider my observations in the right light, remembering that I am one of the greatest fans of this place and so want this place to be flawless.
For a sweet tooth person this is the place where every cravings for sweets can be satiated. No one can eat just one. Chocolate sandesh tops the list. Jolbhora, kiwi, pineapple, butter scotch etc.etc. All are yummylicious.
Renowned confectioners of North Kolkata since 1844; No doubt, one of the best 'Sandesh' makers of Kolkata. If you have craving for delicious sweets, Girish Chandra Dey and Nakur Chandra Nandy is ready to offer you a variety of traditional sweets of different flavours; More than 60 items of Sandesh is available here including 'Jalbhara', 'Talsash', 'Monohora', 'Korapak', Jafran Sandesh, Green apple, Black forest, Mango, Butterscotch etc.
A must watch place in Kolkata, carrying more than 150 years of Bengali tradition on its back and anyone can feel that nostalgia. Till date, they have no branch anywhere. Perhaps, this thing is for maintaining products quality. Price little bit higher, but no compromise with quality. Little crowded all the time.
Must visit. Must visit. Must visit. Must visit. Must visit. Must visit. Must visit. Must visit. Must visit.
It's greatness, one of the best confectioneries in the state. If you are planning to experience the celestial taste of Bengal's sweetmeat, then must visit this place near Hedua park.
Famous names. But it was. Some people make them famous. There is no hygienic maintain not even in Corona situation. If you go to the place and look around the people's you will think you have came to Sagrada mistanna bhandar or Ramkrishna sweets like that. The moyra not having money to wear cloths.people are eating names. I think price should be less its a unnecessary cost. Quality just average. Nowadays price make them famous.
Sondesh is too good. The only problem is with the prices. Prices is different from the website, website needs to be updated. Also, the sales person was a little rude! One customer before me gently asked him which sweet should he buy, the salesman annoyingly replied to him, customer wasn't satisfied with his answer!
Best sweet shop in Kolkata! Wide variety of sweets available at decent rates. Serves fresh made sweets everyday. Sugar free sweets also available. No dinning space only takeaway provided. They also take bulk order for various functions and special events. It's a must try in Kolkata.
Undoubtedly one of the best sweet shops in the entire kolkata. Taste of the sweets are really awesome. Will highly recommend for the sandesh here. They also provide sweets for weddings also.
One of the finest sweet shops of Kolkata. Sweets are fresh, wonderfully tasty, lingering for long hours. But it remains very busy during rush hours. Long queue for getting your chance. Don't worry, keep patience. The fruit of patience is sweet. Nowadays, they are innovating a lot of new items. But their age old originality is Sandesh - Bengal's own sweet.
The shop's ambience might feel pretty low and the prices of the sweets might seem too high, but the quality and the taste of the sweets are just awesome
Love. Jalbhara is the best of all. And Saurav, Manhara one must try as well. Overall a big collection of sandesh. Must visit for atleast once to taste the tradition with classics and variety. 10star for Jalbhara.
A excellent place for the sweet lover. Keeping in mind the taste of 'জলভরা' of সূর্য মোদক of Chandannagar in my opinion taste of জলভরা of Girish Chandra Dey & Nakur Chandra Nandy is the best. It is unparallel. They are specialist for traditional ছানার সন্দেশ। Though now a days they are preparing some chocolate sandesh along with the plain sandesh but as a sweet lover my vote goes to the plain one. Beside জলভরা they prepare other sandesh also all of which are also excellent. So I recommend everyone to have those taste.
Experience at Girish Chandra is smooth, with experienced people over the counters to ask exactly what is required. Customer friendly, fresh and the aroma of Sandesh floats to the nostrils. Fabulous each time.
Excellent quality sweet with many variety if you eat one then you will like to eat more and more. The taste of the sweets stay in your tounge but staff behaviour is not good. They are always in a hurry.
